Homebrew Recruitment—The Hallowed Halls of Heroes
Legends tell of the great challenges to be had if one is fortunate enough to access the Hallowed Halls of Heroes. Once in a great while all the great constellations named after the great heroes appear in the sky, and the time is right for the vigil at the ‘Top of the World’ for the Hall to appear. The great barbarian tribes, the dwarf clans, the elves of the woods, the knights of the realm, and even those of mixed ancestry choose the best of their un-blooded warriors to send to the north to await the appearance of the giant monolithic structure and enter its depths. No material objects from the mundane world are allowed in the Hall, and those who return will be consecrated warriors and heroes.
It is said the favors of the heroes of old can be had to aid one in the Hallow Halls of Heroes. Gerund, the stout dwarf warrior, was famous for the amount of damage he could take and not fall. Cyndi, the elven ranger, was renowned for ability to dodge and evade the blows of her attackers. Grond, the half orc barbarian, delivered the most lethal blows. Harold, the human gladiator was known for the exotic combat maneuvers he would perform; he preferred to drop, disarm, or hold his opponent helpless before he finished them off. Theris, the true, it was said his strikes never missed his opponents and with an economy of motion demanded every strike be true.
You have been chosen, but will you enter the hall and test your courage and skills? Will you seek the favor of those who passed before you?
Character Generation:
Daily posting during the week is REQUIRED. Pathfinder 15 point builds, all characters will be adult, martial characters (full BaB) and will be entering solo. No traits, but all characters will start with an extra feat upon character generation. All characters will enter with no equipment. Characters will be standard races, no variable racial traits, and no drawbacks of any kind.
Make a 'short' (200 word or less background) that paints your character in broad, bright strokes.
I plan to choose at least one of each martial class (fighter, ranger, barbarian, and paladin).
Mechanics:
Characters will start solo and each will have their own dedicated thread. They may meet up with other characters, and they may choose to work together. Characters will be on ‘round time’ from the moment they enter, until the moment they leave. Characters will declare which old heroes they are seeking the favor of, and may gain boons from these heroes as they progress.
This is Pathfinder with a little 'rogue-like' action thrown in. This will not lack in 'action', and the amount of story may actually surprise.
Sir Longears |
Interested... Just a few questions:
1-How many players are you looking for?
2-Will all the martial classes be allowed (Cavalier, Gunslinger, Samurai, Blood Rager, Brawler, Slayer, Swashbuckler, UC Monk) or just those four basic in your post?
3-Are archetypes allowed?
4-For the barbarian, is ok the Unchained version?
4-What is the starting level?
5-What is the max level you intend to GM for us?

Appearance Sagatto stands nearly 6' tall and almost 250 lbs. Not bad looking for a half-orc by human standards, his mostly human appearance is still marred by catlike eyes, small tusks, and pointed ears, making his mixed heritage obvious.
Oranna |
She fought everyday for her right to exists in the tribe but found some peace living and learning of her native people. At the age of fifteen, she trained to be a member of the tribe's warriors and hunters. Even here she was looked down upon, viewed as nothing but an inferior half-blood, yet this did not stop her. She challenged the strongest and most prospective initiate to single hand to hand combat and beat him with her bare hands. There was no objection now. So, she began her proper training.
Time passed and soon Oranna was chosen after a mass melee between hers and several of the surrounding tribes, with her as victor. Now she is to head northwards, to show her peoples might and return a champion at 'The Top of the World'. Not only that but to also prove once and for all of her orc heritage.
Gobo Horde |
Interesting :)
I could see this being a good place to try and create a Cavalier Order of the Flame as being a very good fit, as he revolves around heaping as much glory upon himself and he focuses on slaying an even greater number of foes and he would seek the favor of Ground.
Either that or a Stonelord Dwarf Paladin who is the paragon of the Dwarfs stubbornness and resolve. He would obviously seek the favour of Gerund :) with the extra starting feat I could grab steel soul and power attack :)
I would loose out on the earth elemental that comes with the archetype but oh well :)
And its good to see that we get no drawback, we are supposed to be paragons!
Malgrim Habrak |
May I introduce Malgrim Habrak, male CG dwarven barbarian (invulnerable rager), for your consideration.
Crunch has been added to this alias.
Malgrim always looked up to Gerund. He was never happy in the hierarchical, ordered life in the dwarven caverns. Always striving to be the best, the strongest, the toughest, Malgrim constantly fought the status quo. Always ready for a fight and happier in battle than anywhere else, Malgrim is fearless and always open to making a new friend. When a fight is going well, he can be talkative and outgoing, when a fight is not going well, he can get angry and dour. When he heard about the Hall of Hallowed Heroes, Malgrim was interested in following in the footsteps of his hero Gerund.
Oranna |
Even more stuff Hooray!
Her favored Hero is Grond
GM Tribute |
No equipment to buy, everyone starts like the original Terminator, pure to enter the Hall.
The heroes will be explained more in game, but you all will get amulets corresponding to each hero. Wearing a hero amulet is an attempt to curry favor with that hero and receive a boon. It may affect the ability to get other favors (wearing an elf hero amulet may not make a dwarf hero happy)
Worshipping of Lords should not be a problem, the focus will be more on the heroes you choose to venerate than the diety you worship. A paladin will need to pick a Golarion diety.
GM Tribute |
I like what I see so far.
Samurai, two barbarians, paladin, brawler.
Archery will be a challenge in a dungeon crawl, so I would recommend against an archer. None of the heroes are archery based -- I guess they prefer getting their hands dirty.
Let's see what a week brings. I may start to set up the threads before then.
Malgrim Habrak |
It looks like we have three completed submissions to this recuitement thread.
- Oranna, half-orc Barbarian
- Sagatto, half-orc Brawler
- Malgrim Habrak, dwarven Barbarian (invulnerable rager)
We also appear to have several concepts suggested.
- Something ranged? from Skeward
- Possibly something from Arythain
- Remiel Dumas, Paladin, from Redrick Streit
- A Cavalier or Stonelord Paladin from Gobo Horde
- A halfling Slayer from Toodles other summat
- A Ranger from Wilhelm Shieldbreaker
- A Paladin from trawets71
Recuitement will probably be closing around the end of the week. Can't wait to see what we have at the end.
Lanarial |
I'm thinking a female half-elf two-weapon fighter! A little more challenging to start, but it looks like fun at higher levels! I'll gen up stats and dump into this alias!
Malgrim Habrak |

GM Tribute |
I have not forgotten...
Recruitment is now closed.
•Oranna, half-orc Barbarian
•Sagatto, half-orc Brawler
•Malgrim Habrak, dwarven Barbarian (invulnerable rager)
•Lanarial, half-elf two-weapon fighter
Let us say the above are in. If the following can make some backgrounds, we will see about expanding past four. Let me know if Maedhros and Joshua are interested.
Need a background:
•Maedhros Fingolson, half-elf Ranger (Divine tracker/Shapeshifter)
•Joshua Jericho, human Paladin
Maedhros Fingolson |
Maedhros' origin is murky. His mother died in childbirth, and as his father refused to speak of her, he knows little of his 'human' heritage. Growing up his father was always supportive, but his hard claws, black eyes and hairy body marked him as something other than a normal half-elf and he was frowned upon by many. This disapproval was made worse by his bluntness and gruff demeanour and led to Maedhros spending most of his childhood exploring the woods around his village. Dedicating himself to developing his skills he pushed himself further and further, pushing himself too far he was saved by an old hermit, still strong and athletic despite his extreme old age. Revisiting the hermit led Maedhros to the worship of Irori and the development of himself. Upon returning to the hermit's cave one morning, Maedhros found it to be as if it had been uninhabited for years except for a map carved in the earth and this has led Maedhros to the Hallowed Hall of Heroes.
Tall for either human or elf, Maedhros's black animal eyes and claws mark him as something else. His gruff exterior hides his drive to develop himself and help others to achieve enlightenment.
Finally all up
