OOC Thread. And just to kick this off on a good foot, I'd like everyone to share at least one short, funny story you've had in D&D or something similar.

I'll start: One time, my party was fighting some devils in a Chelish fort. They had mostly taken the fort, but were moping some of the human defenders and knew there were some invisible Devils still lurking around. The halfing (who had a more social-focused build than the rest of the party) decided to commandeer a Ballista and use it against some of the remaining guards. However, he rolled a nat 1 on the shot, and I decided to make him roll for what he wound up hitting instead. He accidentally rolled the wrong dice (d8 instead of a d6) and got an 8, so just rolling with it I made him roll a flat d20, and he got a nat 20. Which meant he plugged an invisible Bone Devil right through the eyes for a critical shot and killed it.

Just got home from work and a disaster level flood zone. Now onto roleplaying.

I will tell a brief story from 3.5 with my first character, about my first TPK.

So my character was Teiidae, he was a large lizardfolk barbarian. Now our DM was a harsh one, he thought it was a good idea for us to fight a razorboar at EPL 7. So it was kicking out asses with DR 5- and fast healing 10. The razorboar killed both my character and my brother's which was a fire hobgoblin ranger. As soon as we fell the rest of the party was doomed. I swear to this day, it rolled two 20s in a row and my brother had gotten a 20 and I think 10. We all laughed as it was the first ever TPK at our table.

One of my first roleplaying game experiences was an old boxed module of d&d that I played with some cousins. Their dad had given them his milkcrate of old gaming stuff, and we'd retreated upstairs to try and play some of it. We didn't know anything about it, and worse yet we had no idea that his stuff had a couple of different systems all loosely bound together in binders because the books had fallen apart.

This is how I ended up playing a dwarf from 1e, with a skill package from 2e, wearing armor from GURPS. We had no idea what we were doing, but since one of the weapons said "massive damage" we used one of those golfball dice - maybe it was a d30? We ran over whatever that old module was, and were run over in turn. Whenever a character died we had a second just wade in, pick up the first character's stuff, and continue the fight. We didn't know how to level up, so a progressively larger death toll mounted as the waves of 1st level characters got destroyed in battle.

I couldn't tell you the name of the module if you paid me, but I still remember how on a rainy summer vacation at the beach my cousins and I were throwing dice into a box and laughing every time the massive damage die instantly killed one of us. Eventually, we won. We had an entire garbage bag full of dead character sheets. My cousin carried it out of the loft like his own bag of holding, and we gave the milkcrate back to my uncle. He told us, very gravely, that we were heroes but the next adventure awaited. He took us out to swim the next day, and I went home shortly after.

Well, just something silly. Not to long ago I was playing a CN half-orc Barbarian in PFS. His goal in life was taking trophies, which for him was always the clothing of defeated enemies. He had a sylph's hat, a woman tomb robber's pants, a horrible old shirt that he thought was masterwork due to rolling a '1' on appraise, etc.

A friend of mine was playing a CN half-orc Bloodrager. He was raised by wolves...until they abandoned him. This made his half-orc very insecure.

They were not the smartest pair, but they always had a good time. We were frustrating the hell out of our party by wandering around a dungeon alone because "talky stuff is boring." This did indeed lead to them running back, slamming a door behind them and yelling "it's not our fault!"

But what really made that night was a door. We were both Str18 half-orcs. The door seemed normal enough. We declared that we were going to kick the door down, amidst much bragging as to our strength and the weakness of doors. We both rolled natural 1s. The table broke out in laughter. The DM said we both sprained our ankles. The party rogue walked over and calmly opened the unlocked door...

...needless to say we closed the door and kicked it in. Because of course we did.

I played a human rogue named Lucky in Dragonlance. I was sneaking up on an encampment of bad guys. I rolled natural 20 on my Hide check followed by a natural 1 on the Move Silent check, to which my sneaky thief suddenly shouted DAMN BUSH! as he tripped over the last obstacle. From then on be became a wizard.

GM, if you wouldn't mind, could you Inactivate the other game since you appear to be the GM over that one too.

A suggestion if I may; link to the current map either on the campaign tab in the Short Description section or in your GM Alias under the Race or Classes/Levels sections, or do both if you're feeling particularly generous. Thank you.

Anyone have any advice on how to improve my fly speed? Because as a monk I'll have great land speed, and I'd rather the flying be his main way of movement.

I think there is a monster feat you can take, if not maybe a custom magic item?

HP (38) AC (17/12/15, +2 Adaptation) Saves (8/6/6) Initiative (+2) CMD (18)

The only monster feats I know about are hover (so he can fire in the air and not come down) and another that would let him make turns easier.

@GM: Can I take a feat which switches my monk movement speed increase for flying movement speed increase? It'll come down to being -10ft movement (because flight starts off at 20ft while land is 30ft) and it'd cost a feat. But in the long run flight is worth more than land speed, so that should even out.

I'm going to say yes . . . but not for a few levels. At-will flight at low levels is already pretty damn broken, and I'm not looking forward to "I fly 100 feet up and snipe everyone with impunity" until you guys start running into guys who can deal with that. So I'll say yes, but with a minimum level requirement of 5.

Still, a mysterious campsite so near the collapse is strange.

I don't want to go back track anything, So I was wondering If Sabrina could contribute to anything? is there anything that she could help rectify?

Also I do fear that some party roles are formed and Sabrina may have some thoughts on them. so I would like to discuss things before posting anything.

Eh, I'm fine with a little RP backtracking.

Also, I'll post again in a few hours, I just got back and I need to get to class.

To answer your question more directly, I'm fine with you doing some retroactive RP'ing. I haven't had her do much more than tank for the party in the encounters so far, but feel free to go back over the thread and have her add some commentary. We're not so far in as to make that awkward or difficult.

But I'm not quite sure what you mean by party roles that are formed. Is Sabrina not okay with taking point?

What I mean by party roles is what niches are people filling, and where do you all need Sabrina to fit in.

do we have a party leader yet? Sabrina tends to look at most situations from a military perspective and I want to know if that will be a problem with anyone.

HP (38) AC (17/12/15, +2 Adaptation) Saves (8/6/6) Initiative (+2) CMD (18)

I don't think that is something which has been filled or which will be filled until we get to know each other. Also military leadership often only means listening because you have to. Ex: The LT is f*cking retarded and is screwing us up. But what do I know? I'm just an E4 so "Roger sir, let's do this ass backwards." Not that I'm venting or anything.

I think we're ok on leadership - we have a bunch of NPCs to shepherd. Focus on getting out safe, we can work out the dynamics as our characters get to know each other.

Ugg. Someone more familiar with Paizo's forums--are outages like we had over the last 2ish days common?

In other news, we're set to move into the next area once everyone is done talking, so if I don't get any more posts by tomorrow I'll move the party along.

paizo.com seems to lose it's mind once every 2 months or so.

Generally no, but kinda-sorta. It does seem like paizo is very stable for 55 out of 60 days, and then we have a explosion of outages, like they were late on the bill and then the checked bounced and finally a certified check arrived to at least reduce the balance and keep the lights on for a few more weeks.
