Unnvar the Solemn

At Sarsczek's request Unnvar pulls out his Wand and taps him a couple times.
Wand of CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Wand of CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Clandelve you get hurt in the fall? Assuming the answer is yes, he moves to heal him as well.
Wand of CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Wand of CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Elaqis I think we are ready for those water elementals.
Elaqis Teletaire
|
"All right, let's go!" Elaqis says cheerily. With a few gestures and words in Aquan he waves his hands. Tiny rips in reality occur above the pool and 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 splashes of water drop down before coalescing into small vaguely humanoid shapes.
The gnome yells out to them in a flowing tongue.
He is sending them to check out what's below the surface
AC 17 (touch 11, Flat-foted 17)
F/R/W 6/3/0
Slam +7 for 1d6+6 (+1 attack and +1 damage if it and its foe are both in water)
Perception +4

For me? 7 minutes.
Yes, thank you. That's what I thought, just double-checking.
Rounds: 2d4 ⇒ (3, 4) = 7
Percep: 3d20 ⇒ (18, 2, 14) = 34
Percep: 4d20 ⇒ (3, 2, 17, 1) = 23

1A: 1d20 ⇒ 10
1.2: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 2) = 6
2.1: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 1) = 5
2A: 1d20 ⇒ 5
2.2: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 4) = 9
The 2 Water Elementals go into the murky water. After about 20 seconds, the water at the far end seems to bubble a little and there seems to be a bit of turbulence in the water. A few seconds later, something similar happens in the middle of the room.
Soon, thereafter one water elemental, then the other, both obviously battered and near death, resurface and eagerly make their way out of the water. They look back toward the water to see if they are being followed before speaking to Elaqis in Aquan.
Small Elementals only have INT 4
First Elemental: "Door under water on far wall. many many many small dangers. Tiny bites hurt much. They cannot be hurt. "
Second Elemental:"Hidden door on bottom. Thousands tiny mouths hurt me badly. Fist no hurt tiny mouths."
Sarsczek
|
Sarsczek attempts to play a game of charades with the elementals to figure out what they've seen.
Bluff to pass message: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (6) - 3 = 3
Elaqis Teletaire
|
Yup, they are not the brightest, but they try hard to make up for it :)
Elaqis thinks for a bit, then asks.
As the water elementals compose themselves, Elaqis turns to August. "Not especially good, no. Aparrantly there is something or things down in there. Can't be punched and cause thousands of bites. I'm trying to tell if its a magical attack or some type of pirhana swarm."
The gnome yells down the hole to Sarsczek and Clandelve Are they still below?
"Weal and Woe gentlemen. There is a door to the north of the room beyond, albeit below the watery depths. Unfortunately, there is also a rather nasty set of things in there as well. But! Supposedly we have yet ANOTHER trapdoor leading down to you. Can you see it? And if you have finished searching that level, do you think you can poke the hatches from below?"
Unnvar the Solemn
|
I think Sarzczek and Clandelve are already back up top.
Elaqis I like your thinking, trouble is might be difficult to spring those traps from below, but I think it's worth a try.
Turning to Clandelve, Hold this. He hands the dwarf the rope, as he does his arms seem to elongate and his face is decided more primate in appearance, Unnvar then proceeds to climb down into the pit below. (Feral Focus = Monkey +4 to climb)
Take 10 for 22 on climb check, then take 10 for 20 on acrobatics to avoid the spikes. Take 10 again for 20 on acrobatics to move past the next set of spikes carefully.
Unnvar moves to the third set of spikes and looks up to see if he can figure out how to trigger the pit trap from below.
Take 10 for 22 on Disable Device check. If need be I'll climb up to the top and roll for Disable Device up there, let me know.
| Gimble, The Storyteller |
I was under the impression Sarsczek and Clandelve were back up top before the elementals were summoned.
2nd Elemental: "Thousands of tiny little mouths attack. All look same."
Unnvar can see the bottom of a pit trap. The trap door is 5' above the cooridor ceiling.
Climbing up to trigger the trap will cause the water to push Unnvar straight down into the spikes. Something long enough could reach the pit from the ground though.
Unnvar the Solemn
|
So what is that then 10-12 feet? Greatswords is around 5 feet long, Unnvar is a little over 6 feet tall.
Unnvar gauges with his greatsword to see if he can reach the trap or if he needs something longer, realizing he's about to get his monthly bath if this works. As he reaches up he braces for the cold shower if it does work.
If I can't reach I'll check to see if the party has anything longer, perhaps even a long branch from outside if need be.
| Gimble, The Storyteller |
You can reach it with the greatsword and avoid falling on the spikes.
Unnvar takes his greatsword and pushes at the trap. A couple thrusts later the doors swing open pouring water out of the room. The rush of water hits Unnvar harder than he suspected and he's knocked down and pushed back 5 feet.
Water Bull Rush: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
The water rushes in all directions (down the grate, north and south down the cooridor), but quickly drains out. Leaving thousands upon thousands of tiny black slug-like creatures about the size of a man's thumb with tiny circular mouths flopping on the floor. They start to swarm and one grouping starts making their way toward Unnvar.
As they're reswarming. I'll give Unnvar a round to state his action before rolling initiative. They are moving very, very slow on the ground.
Unnvar the Solemn
|
knowledge nature: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Unsure of what they are, but sure he doesn't want to know. Unnvar bounces up, taps his heels together, he feels light on his feet. He begins to retreat quickly down the hall, leaping over the first set of spikes in his way.
Move stand up, Free Activate Boots of Speed, Standard Move
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24
Stopping short of the second set of spikes, he turns to see how fast these things are coming.
Sarsczek
|
Sarsczek lays flat on the ground and sticks his head into the hole, looking down at Unnvar.
"Whatcha see down dere? You emptied the muck up here and... ooh. Those look ugly. Dunno what they are, but looks like a swarm to me. I doubt dey can climb back up here tho. Not for a long time."
He holds a hand out to pull Unnvar up.
| Gimble, The Storyteller |
The swarm only has a movement of 5' out of water, which is why I didn't go into initiative right away. You can easily escape up the rope.
Unnvar quickly backs away and runs to the rope. As he starts to climb he feels a couple pinches on his skin, but can easily peel and slap the attached parasites off. The inidividual bites leave a small ring and spot of blood around where they attached themselves. No damage.
He easily climbs up the rope. As Sarsczek grabs Unnvar's hand and helps pull him up, he sees another tiny parasite on Unnvar's forearm.
Back to the room in just a moment.
| Gimble, The Storyteller |
The room is now drained of all water. There are hieroglyphs on the North wall as seen here: Hieroglyphs
There is also the faint outline of a door to the left of the images.
You don't recognize most of these symbols, except for the following Mathmatical Symbols.
Sarsczek
|
Knowledge (Nature): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
"Umm.. Unnvar? You got leeches on you. We should prob'ly get them off..."
He stops short when he sees the Hieroglyphs, then sits down, cross-legged, in front of the wall and begins muttering in Ancient Osirion. He seems awfully happy.
Sarsczek
|
The tiefling jumps back to his feet, and imitates a high pitched female voice. "Hi-lee eff-ish-shunt!"
He giggles a bit, then points at several of the glyphs.
"If you look at deez four glyphs" pointing to the outstretched hand, raised hand, branching tree, the sliced rope, and scales in turn "...they rep-REE-zent things you can do with things! The first one is a giving hand, it adds things, the second is a taking hand, it takes things. The third is a branch, it grows things, and the fourth is a sliced knot, it splits things. The last is the scales like at the meat market. It checks to see if things are the same!"
He then points to the rows of glyphs below.
"Now, if I put a snack on da first symbol, and 2 snacks on de second symbol, and 3 snacks on da third symbol... and as Watts would say 'Ex Set-trah' than we juss follow da instructions!"
He scans each one by one...
"Eight snacks add two snacks weighs ten snacks! Squiggly line over a circle!"
"Seven snacks take one snack weighs six snacks! Scarab!
"Three snacks growing three snacks weighs nine snacks! Scorpion!"
"Eight snacks split wiff two people weighs four snacks! Doggy!"
August Autumnwind
|
Huh? August just stares at the wall and seems to fail to understand anything that is said. He'll see if he can help with the leeches.
Elaqis Teletaire
|
"Ah, good job there." Elaqis says as a now damp Unnvar emerges from the pit. "Oh, and missed a spot."
Turning to the now drained room, the gnome scratches his head at the strange carvings. I don't speak Osirian, so"Er, yes, I suppose. What a...curious thought process Sarsczek. May I ask where you were trained?"
Sarsczek
|
"Trained? On da job. S' in-two-ah-tive. Paffinders said I'm a survivor, so dey put me in front of an expy dishin. Met some nice pathfinders that do puzzles, and learned from dem. Diri Lizzenb..eh..to..something and Watts Helm. Smart pathfinders."
You get the sense that you're talking to someone who learned his people skills from a book.
Unnvar the Solemn
|
Dripping wet and flicking off the last couple leaches, Unnvar collects himself. Listening to Sarsczek's analysis and looking at the hieroglyphs, Unnvar realizes this is over his head and just nods his agreement.
Clandelve Hammerhand
|
Clandelve wades through the water toward the next door.
"Looks loch thaur might be more ay these pit traps aheid. Mebbe Ah can open th' door wi' a rope tied tae me thes time," the dwarf says.
Sarsczek
|
Sarsczek motions to everyone. "Stand back, imma press em!"
Once everyone is clear, he presses the buttons as per the solution above.
Sarsczek
|
For clarity's sake, in a language that isn't Sarsczek-ese...
First line: 8 + 2 = 10, press 10th rune (Squiggle over circle)
Second line: 7 - 1 = 6, press 6th rune (Scarab)
Third line: 3 x 3 = 9, press 9th rune (Scorpion)
Fourth line: 8 / 2 = 4, press 4th rune (Jackal)
| Gimble, The Storyteller |
As Sarsczek presses the last hieroglyph, there's an audible click and the door slides open.
A short stairway leads up to the center of a hallway with identical doors at either end. The floor here is barely damp. Each doorway features a simple stone handle. On the passage’s northern wall are two figures in bas-relief: to the west, a human man holding an ankh in one hand and a khopesh in. the other; to the east, a jackal-headed man double-wielding twin kukris.
Elaqis Teletaire
|
"Ah, very good, very good!" Elaqis calls out. "If you don't mind, may I have just a moment's respite? He's certainly had a long enough nap given how little he's done to deserve it so far."
If no objects, Elaqis will conduct a brief 1-minute ritual to re-summon Amar.
As the eidolon emerges in a flash of smoke, the gnome taps his foot impatiently. "Yes, good to see you back and all that. Now," he nods towards the gap in the stairs. "Regarding transport?"
With a sigh, Amar lifts up the small gnome and carriers him into the hieroglyphic room to join Sarsczek.
Unnvar the Solemn
|
Unnvar marvels at Sarsczek brilliance at solving the puzzle. Staring at the hieroglyphs a bit longer, he still does get how he came to the solution. Aware that there is likely another pit right in front of the now open doors, Unnvar confirms this.
Falcon once more for Feral Focus. Take 10 on perception for 31 to verify the pit is there.
Assuming the pit can be successfully traversed by everyone, Unnvar searches for traps in the hallway beyond.
@GM - In case you need some new Perception checks

2: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (18) + 21 = 39

5: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (20) + 21 = 41
6: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (16) + 21 = 37
Moving slowly along the stairs, Unnvars scans both ways upon reaching the top, still looking for traps especially pits that seem prevalent here.
| Amar N'Ugnuna |
Amar stares impressed as Unnvar finds and shores up multiple more pits with ease. "You are very perceptive friend. Your presence here is very helpful."
Clandelve Hammerhand
|
Clandelve pounds his hammer against his shield, and says "Let's finish up fast...what's a dwarf need tae dae tae dry aff aroond here?"
August Autumnwind
|
Where ya wanna go? How abouts that door there? I can open it if ya want now that we found that there trap. Whichever direction is given, August will oblige. Or he'll just go open the door.
Unnvar the Solemn
|
Unnvar sees the desire for a fight in both of the dwarves' eyes, he encouragingly claps them both on the back.
August, Clandelve, I didn't see any traps! Lead the way.
Setting the two burly fighters in front of him at the doors.
| Gimble, The Storyteller |
August goes to open the door and nearly runs his face into it as the door is locked. Sarsczek quickly moves up and easily unlocks the door.
If the other set of doors is checked, you find a brick wall behind it.
August, glances back for a moment at Sarsczek and Unnvar, and after getting assurance the door is unlocked, opens the door.
Brilliant treasure fills this room. From every angle, gold, silver, and myriad gems catch the light. While the floor is a soupy morass and mold grows up the walls, the Dog Pharaoh’s treasures sit atop shelves untouched by the grime below. An ornate sarcophagus lies on a dais at the far end of the room, mold growing up its sides.
August Autumnwind

Wow, look at all that stuff! I dunno if we can carry it all!
Clandelve Hammerhand
|
Clandelve's eyes glitter with greed.
"Weel look whit we have haur! By Torag's beard, lang may it graw...there's a lot ay treasure haur!"
The dwarf stands at the entry surveying the scene with envy, but does not yet enter, in the event his companions determine there are any traps to avoid.

Unnvar the Solemn
|
Unnvar peers over the dwarves, marveling at the treasure, but then notices the predominate mold in the room. That can't be good. Hang on before you move in He puts a hand on each of the dwarves shoulders to indicate they should hold on, as he studies the mold more closely.
Know Nature: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
His instinct is to toss some Alchemist Fire into the room and see how this mold likes it. He draws one from his pouch just in case the instinct, becomes an itch.
Elaqis Teletaire
|
"Good spot Hammerhand!" Elaqis says as he gladly taps the dwarf with the fighter's own wand. "Well, fool a man once as they say. Amar: go and poke that wall will you? You're big enough and I'd rather not get hit by a second wave of Abadar-knows-what water.I shudder to think of the tailoring bills as it is!"

Dutifully, Amar flaps his wings and slowly hovers inwards, gazing at the southernmost wall as the eidolon traces the fingers of his extended arm over the stone.
