Forgive me, please. It has been a busy season.
The spiritual weapon strikes at the goblin, but the attack misses. The goblins continue their retreat, shouting "Bree-yark!" as they go!
Hess Grimlock |
"Quick! After them!"
Hess fires off another eldritch blast at the retreating foes, then runs after them.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20 Eldritch Blast
1d10 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 Results of Eldritch Blast
WhtKnt |
Hess throws a blast that brings down the second goblin before it can go any further. The sudden silence is deafening and you realize just how much noise you had been making. Ahead, from around a corner to the north, you can see the faint flickering of firelight.
Landau Carmycal |
Landau continues to follow the chase scene with his rapier in hand.
Who's leading? GM, can we organize a marching order, so you can describe the next encounter that we hit? Otherwise, everyone will take a couple of days to post that they're a moving toward the faint flickering firelight. We need to rebuild posting momentum (= average number of posts per day). Thanks
Kord Silvershield |
As the last goblin falls, Kord breathes a sigh of relief. Focusing again he hold his shield aloft and moves slowly towards the flickering light. "Gimble, Quinrick, one of you two want to be a little ahead to spot any traps the little buggers may have left? Just be quick to get back behind us if we run into any more."
Quinrick Gobblewright |
"Right'o!" Quinrick whispers, already taking a sneaky attitude.
He joins Gimble in scouting the path ahead, moving as stealthily as a halfling in shady business.

Skulking quietly ahead, as only the gnomes and halflings can do, the pair move ahead towards the flickering light. They are gone but a few moments before returning to report their findings; a cluttered room that seems empty from their vantage point.
WhtKnt |
As the group moves into the room, there is a shout and the goblins are upon them! The two dwarves have effectively blocked the entrance to the hallway and the advance of the creatures! The goblins are caught off-guard (not by surprise) and are still in the confines of the room (about 10 to 30 feet from the party).
I have been using group initiative, but I'm not sure if the group as it now stands still prefers that method. If not, let me know and I will switch to individual initiatives.
The party is up!

Rurik's attack fells a goblin immediately, with Landau wounding one heavily as the bolt punctures its lung! Gimble finishes the job with an arrow to the gut and the creature falls. Quinrick drops yet another of the goblins with an arrow to the eye!
The three remaining goblins surge forward, weapons at the ready. The first two attack Rurik and Kord, with Rurik's foe missing him and Kord dodging the other's attack. The third circles around Kord to move towards the party.

Kord strikes back with his hammer at the goblin that attacked him. His blow landing with a solid squish as the creature falls with it's head caved in. He then moves back to discourage the other goblin from attacking his less armored comrades.

Kord fells the nearest goblin and steps back. Gimble tries to stab the goblin before him but misses the mark. Rurik swings at his target and misses, a stray bolt from Landau's crossbow sailing over his and the goblin's head. Quinrick reacts quickly, putting an arrow through the left eye of the goblin before Rurik and sending it to the ground. Hess blasts at the remaining goblin, also returning a miss.
The remaining goblin, realizing that it is outnumbered and surrounded, goes berserk and slashes wildly at Kord, catching only the dwarf's plate mail.

Gimble's dagger puts the last goblin in its grave. The room is now silent. During the battle, several females and children had streamed out of the chamber through the exit heading north.
This 30-foot-by-40-foot room is a cluttered mess. There are heaps of bedding, tables, stools, and benches all around the whole chamber. A natural recess in the southern wall serves as a crude fireplace and a small fire glows therein.
WhtKnt |
What's next? Exits go north and west, and a passage intersects from the south a short distance to the west. Further west, the passage ends at a door.
Rurik Holderhek |
Rurik points to the door to the west, "We should spike that door shut to protect our backs and follow those greenskins." he points then to the north.
WhtKnt |
Gimble searches about and finds a large stick that could be jammed beneath the edge of the door to prevent it from opening. This is quickly employed and the party gives chase to the goblins, the dwarves leading the way. Ahead is an open chamber, the passage blocked by four goblin guards. Behind them, the women and children can be seen cowering within the room.
Gimble Undershale |
"Maybe we could show mercy and let them leave with the women and children? Its just a thought?" Gimble asks in a whisper as he gets his bow out and an arrow, but not notched.
Landau Carmycal |
"That was my thought from the beginning of this massacre. But no, goblins are like rodents that must be exterminated before they repopulate and threaten civilization. Or at least, that's was what the consensus was a couple days ago." Laudau cynically offers.
Kord Silvershield |
"As reluctant as I am to kill innocents, Landau is correct. Leaving them alive is just more caravans being destroyed in the future. Let's get to work."
Kord starts advancing, with hammer in hand and his shield leading the way.
Rurik Holderhek |
Rurik shuts down the part of himself that is trying to assign Dwarflike traits to this monsters. He tightens his grip on his hammer and moves forward.
Quinrick Gobblewright |
Quinrick looks at the goblins ahead, and nervously nocks an arrow to his bow. He is quite uncertain about killing the women and children (“no, think them as females and cubs”) - be they goblins or not. But the dwarves seem to have better resolve than him, so perhaps they can deal with them.
”Okay. “ is all he can contribute to the plan.
WhtKnt |
The job is done quickly and efficiently, the goblins slaughtered to the last. The guards try to defend their charges, but they just cannot manage to overcome the group. The females and children give no resistance whatsoever.
This 50-foot-by-30-foot room is stacked and heaped with many bales, boxes, crates, barrels, and sacks.
Landau Carmycal |
Landau begins inventory to identify contents, owners and dates.
Investigation: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
WhtKnt |
From appearances, it would seem that these goblins have been raiding caravans for quite some time. The boxes and barrels contain cloth, food (no longer fit for human consumption), beer, and wine. Performing a full inventory will take some time (about 30 minutes).
WhtKnt |
Have we lost momentum to the point that this one is dead? Or should I try to replace Hess and carry on?
