Hess Grimlock |
Hess gives Rurik a knowing nod before turning his attention to the new arrivals.
"So I'm glad you found us too... but I am a bit curious as to why you were looking for us in the first place".
"Names Hess. Give us another couple of minutes to rest and we'll be ready to go. I don't suppose that map you're holding tells us anything about the path ahead"?
Gimble Undershale |
A debonaire gnome saunters up with his plumed hat and singular eyepatch. he seems unphased as he looks at his fellow two adventurers and then bows.
"Well now it seems we have found the other adventurers. Well met. I see Kord and Quinrick have introduced themselves. I shall do the same" he slips his hat back on his head and curls his mustache.
"I am Gimble Undershale, scout, aspiring writer, tinkerer, and general all-around journeyman." He says settling comfortably in the group his thin lithe frame holding a decent pack as he rests his hand on a shortsword and the other on his dagger.
Quinrick Gobblewright |
"Eh... unfortunately, no. The road ahead is not quite mapped yet." Quinrick turns the map over to show Hess the map is incomplete.
"But I'm working on it!" he adds, smiling.
"I came to these untamed lands on guild business - simply to draw more accurate maps of the area. But as the kind folks in the keep pointed out, these lands are also very dangerous, and advised to seek security by moving around in numbers. And they told us there was already a group of adventurers - meaning you - so it was worthwhile to seek you and check if you'd wanted to join forces. And you really seem the capable sort." The halfling points at the dead goblins scattered around, and nods approvingly.
"Well, that's me. Kord and Gimble have their own stories to be here."
Kord Silvershield |
"Despite the clerical vestments, I'm something of a bounty hunter. I heard there were riches to be made in the area and ended up at thet keep. That's where I met Quinrick here. The guards there informed me of the same rescue mission you all are on I presume. We encountered Hoddy and Shianni on our way here and they informed us as to your current predicament. I understand this has been a hard fought couple days for you with the orcs and now goblins. Hopefully we can make the going a bit easier."
Finally caught up on the rest of the thread. Those orcs were brutal.
Gimble Undershale |
"Oh I am here to look up some coin as well as get more material for my written adventures. Right now it is a bit boring with rats and an occasional kobold here and there. Oh and once a Xvart! Still not very glamorous! However, I as I said I am looking to expand my novel, but I have been trained in a variety of arts. decent with a bow and blade, while quite observant" he says as Gimble stands looking kinda like a dandy form the city.
Hess Grimlock |
"Well Welcome one and all. We could certainly use the help. Looks like adventuring is not for everyone, and we tend to lose our share of friends. Hopefully you're all built of stouter stock".
Hess climbs to his feet... "I'm ready when you are". Assuming short rest has been accomplished.
WhtKnt |
Short rest complete. You may carry on when ready.
Things have remained remarkably silent for the duration of the rest. You cannot help but feel that you've been lucky in remaining undiscovered thus far.
Kord Silvershield |
"No time like the present eh? I'm not as strong a fighter as Rurik here looks to be but I can take a fair beating. Let me take up the vanguard in case we run into more of those goblins."
Quinrick Gobblewright |
"I'm small and light-weigh, so I can be pretty stealthy - when I keep my mouth shut. So I can scout ahead, if you want."
Seeing all the dead goblins around, makes him think perhaps it's best to put the map away for now, and draw a blade instead.
Gimble Undershale |
"Very true Mr.Gobblewright, I too am quite adept at not being seen unless I wish it. Tis quite handy in a pinch" he says very assuredly twitching his lip letting the well-groomed mustache twitch.
Rurik Holderhek |
"I am a little uncomfortable not being in the front, but I know the value of a good scout, You know your business, how far behind?"
He settles hit repaired helm over his sweat soaked head and tightens the strap on his shield. then seems to remember something. " Who among us require light to fight?"
Quinrick Gobblewright |
"Don't worry. If fighting happens, I'll run right back to you - you'll get your share" Quinrick says with a wink.
"Uh, yes... Light would be appreciated. It would be very nice to see something."
WhtKnt |
Alright, where are we headed? You can go back the way that you came and explore the other passage near the entrance or go up the stairs.
WhtKnt |
You follow the tunnel up the stairs and around the corner where you come to a solid-looking door. A quick check finds that it is securely locked. Neither Gimble nor Quinrick spot any obvious traps on the portal.
Quinrick Gobblewright |
"A-ha! A locked passage! Not for long, if you ask me..."
Quinrick reaches into his pocket, and retrieves a set of thieves' tools. He chooses the tools most appropriate for the lock, and in no time he is working with the mechanism.
Thieves tools: 1d20 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 + 4 = 24
Edit: I'm not sure how to roll for lockpicking, but is it DEX + proficiency?
WhtKnt |
Quinrick is quick to work on the lock and within moments, there is a satisfying "click" as the lock comes open.
Kord Silvershield |
Kord grins at the click of the lock. Whispering to the others, "Sounds like there's some unsuspecting somethings behind the door. May be more than just goblins though. Everyone ready?" He checks his war hammer and shield just to make sure he is also ready.
Upon assent from the rest of the group he will open the door to challenge the inhabitants. In other words, I'll volunteer to go into the room first.
Quinrick Gobblewright |
"Does anyone have a free hand to hold the torch? I might fare better using a bow, if Kord leads the way." Quinrick asks, then quickly realizing he might be the only one in the group not seeing in darkness.
"...or I just might stick with my rapier..."
WhtKnt |
I am so sorry, I thought I was waiting on you guys, but you were waiting on me!
The door opens with some resistance, as though something was braced against the other side. The reason quickly becomes apparent, as a large body stumbles away from the portal as it opens. The figure is as tall as a human, with ochre-colored flesh and a fanged mouth. The room is filled with the creatures, both male and female, and there are a few young (not shown on the map), as well.
The party has one round of surprise actions before I roll initiative.
Landau Carmycal |
"Well, hello lovely." Landau says sarcastically.
Cast Vicious Mockery on the tall, fanged fellow Wis DC 14
Kord Silvershield |
"Berronar protect and guide us!" intones Kord, grasping his holy symbol. Shield raised, he steps into the room. Rurik, Gimble, and Kord have a faint glow for a moment as divine power infuses them.
Cast bless on the aforementioned people. Add a d4 to attack and saves for a minute. All I see on the map is a big black rectangle and an icon for Landau
WhtKnt |
Should be fixed now and everyone should be connected.
Gimble Undershale |
"Brave bunch we have linked up with my dear Quinrick, Shall we join them?" he says in a gentlemanly manner stepping out and drawing his dagger and his shortsword smiling, ready for the ensuing fight.
Gimble slips in and takes a position by the crates ready to strike at any who get past the dwarf.
Okay move in with stealth, then hide in the crate area
Stealth: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Holding action until an enemy comes around to get through the door
Quinrick Gobblewright |
"Right, Gimble! Into the fray!"
Quinrick tiptoes into the room, following Kord's footsteps. Once he sees the fanged creature, he uses the dwarf's armored form to keep himself hidden from the enemy's eyes, and throws a dagger at the creature.
Move, bonus action: hide, attack
Stealth: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Attack, if advantage: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
sneak damage?: 1d6 ⇒ 3
not very impressive dice rolls there...
Hess Grimlock |
Dusting off his handy cantrip, Hess picks out a dangerous looking individual, and sends a welcoming blast of Eldritch pain in their general direction.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 Blast
1d10 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 Crater of pain
But in his eagerness to blast one instead slips and nearly falls prone into the room.
"Let's hold them here in the doorway! They can't surround us then".
BTW all I see is the black rectangle.
WhtKnt |
The crates and boxes represent difficult terrain.
Hmmm. Hess, you are Steve C., yes?
WhtKnt |
Hess, you might try refreshing. That sometimes works.
The party reacts quickly, but in their haste, Quinrick and Hess miss their targets.
Initiative
Party
Bad guys
The party is up, any order!
Party Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Kord Silvershield |
Rurik still needs a go for round 1 and a will save needs to be made for vicious mockery. Just fyi
Kord unslings his warhammer and applies it to the creatures chest.
attack + bless: 1d20 + 4 + 1d4 ⇒ (15) + 4 + (3) = 22
damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
WhtKnt |
You know, Isaw the viscious mockery and made a mental note about it, then went and blanked out. Also, we will let Rurik go twice.
Creature Wis: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (10) + 0 = 10
The creature reels under the effects of Landau's spell. (It takes 1d4 ⇒ 2 damage and has disadvantage.)
Landau Carmycal |
"Yes, I'm talking about you." Landau says sarcastically.
Move and Cast Vicious Mockery on the tall, fanged fellow Wis DC 14
Gimble Undershale |
Gimble pops from his hidey hole to throw his dagger at the closest one.
Dagger: 1d20 + 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (15) + (1) + 4 = 20
damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Sneak Attack: 1d6 ⇒ 6
He then drops back outta site
Stealth: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Quinrick Gobblewright |
The last attack was a bit hasty and thus failed. But Quinrick isn't one to give up easy. He again dives behind Kord armored form, for another sneaky dagger throw
Stealth: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Attack, if advantage: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
sneak damage?: 1d6 ⇒ 1
And then, perhaps pushing his luck, he hides again in the the dwarf's mighty shadow.
Stealth: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Hess Grimlock |
Hess looks questionably at his fickle finger of firepower, then dusts it off, and shoots another eldritch blast at which ever target seems to be the most popular.
Tried refreshing, going in and out, ever restarting PC. Still nothing but a Black Hole.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21 EB
1d10 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14 EBD
Rurik Holderhek |
looking at the map it looks like a surprise round move, then a move infront of Kord and an attack on the injured Hobgoblin.
Rurik moves forward and attacks the Hobgoblin.
Warhammer+6: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
WhtKnt |
Kord slams his hammer home and the hobgoblin bends over as the air rushes from his lungs. Seeing an opening, Gimble comes out of hiding long enough to throw a dagger into the throat of the creature. It falls with a rasping gurgle.
Landau tries again, on a different target, but the hobgoblin ignores him. Quinrick hurls a dagger at one of them, but it bounces off the humanoid's armored form. Another eldritch blast from Hess flies over the shoulders of the dwarves and halflings to down a female. His original target felled, Rurik continues his movement to target another near the back wall of the cave, bringing it low with a single, devastating strike!
The hobgoblins react now, woken from their initial stupor. The male and female nearest Rurik strike at him, but neither manages to get past his armor. The remaining females and the three young (not shown on the map) keep their distance, but the two males in the back unlimber bows and fire on Kord and Rurik, but again, neither is able to penetrate the dwarves' armor.
The party is up in any order!
Hobgoblin Wis: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (14) + 0 = 14
Hobgoblin vs. Rurik: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14 Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 plus 2d6 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2 (martial advantage)
Female vs. Rurik: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Hobgoblin vs. Kord: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17 Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Hobogblin vs. Rurik: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15 Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
