Mathus, you can enter at will. Just assume that whatever took you away has been concluded. The group reconvenes at Kendra's house to relax and tie up loose ends.

Despite Mathus hiding working away from Ravensgro, has he picked up any additional stuff/gold?
WhtKnt

Yes, you have gained 5,000 gp to spend as you desire. That should put you about on a par with them.
Is anyone keeping a loot sheet? I can go back and pull out everything that you have found, but if you've been keeping track, it would save me some work.
Mathus Kohlheim
Yeah, I got slammed with back to back 2ams thats messing with me. Hope to have Mathus done tomorrow

Uh, I don't recall. Let's say roll, but if you get less than average, take the average. How about that?

Oookay. He is updated and done. I am happier with him now.
The swashbuckler dip rounds him out further. He is only doing d6+1 on a stab but he's a bit more defensive and is at least decent on attempts to hit in melee.
So just WTF has Mathus been doing?
Well he left Ravengro with nary a word or letter. His nerves were completely shot and his sanity emperilled. INTELLECTUALLY he rationalised it as getting knowledge in order to be ready to head back and be of more help but in truth? It was fear pure and simple.
IIRC you guys needed to remain in Ravengro for 30 days.
SO in that time, before you move on to Lepidstadt to get paid etc?
He went into a fury of study (manic attempt to focus on solving the bad situation by doing disassociative distracting "related" work.
He made some breakthroughs in his studies of medicine, studying under a gnomish surgeon and it changed his approach entirely Fitting in better with his Chirgeon archetype and took up fencing lessions late at night, with sleep being scarce...
Lvl 3 additional traits - Fencer and Precise Treatment traits
As time drew on and the memories, those terrible memories began to fade? He associated more with society - particularly the unique culture of the University of Lepidstadt... He joined their fencing club and then, being useful to them because of his surgery and healing infusions he was drawn in and accepted somewhat as part of that particular circle.
He has since taken to a study of swordsmanship in order to improve both health and clarity of thought and has found the study of scientific fencing to come naturally to him Lvl 4 - dip to Swashbuckler
But now? Now the thoughts return... what happened to his companions and Kendra? He is more at peace now and has mentally recovered to PERHAPS revisit the situation...

The Open Gate
This is a big level for everyone's favorite eldritch horror.
Gate doesn't get a new hit dice, so all it's numbers stay the same, but it gets a whole slew of new evolutions to play with.
In it's serpentine form, it gains Grab.
In it's quadraped form, it's now a flying, pouncing, rendmonster.
In it's humanoid form, it's learned from Ed, and has Shadow Form, Shadow Blend, and is getting very good at impersonating Judah.

I'm here... just wondering do I join you at Lepidstadt ? It seems that it's the right time/ situation
Lorant Endronil
I don't know...I did want to wrap up loose threads in Ravengro before we head there. I'll be honest, I feel like we barely got a chance to interact with more of the people in the town...I get that we had a hard time-limit on the ghosts, and it was a little rough with the dropouts and rejoinings and such, but I felt that it'd have been nice to sort of get to know the town, maybe get involved in the villagers' smaller dramas and make some more friends.

I say this not in any slight to White Knight... I had the luxury of running it on a table top and had the leisure to really take my time and connect with my players.
I ran Ravengro as an NPC in its own right with its own currents and interactions. I put heavy RP incentives (both positive and negative) to stay out of HarrowStone. They levelled to 2 on near pure RP alone.
Lots of notable issues as the letters continued to appear... I sped up the letters a bit as well to put additional pressure to catch the culprit (them not knowing why it was happening) and slowly making Ravengros inhabitants nastier and nastier.
I had signs of domestic abuse on the faces of some inhabitants, neighbours fighting (who by all accounts were good friends), cruelty to animals etc,
Zolkar? Hung himself (really kicking the characters in the balls) and they had Petra join as the pharisman priests apprentice. He was dealing with grief and doubt etc. The sheriff went full Deep South sheriff mode on the party and locked more than one of them up.
I worked around Father Grimburrow by having him have a heart attack and dropped into a coma.... so the PC cleric had to take over the running of the village spiritual needs... and jealousy from the npc village acolytes who thought they'd take over instead.
The alchemy chick was kendras jealous bestie who had a secret forbidden love for Kendra and wanted to run away with her... it was she who took money from the Whispering Way to set up Lorrimor etc. That was another tragedy when all that came out and shattered the status quo. The sheriff had a thing for Alchemist chick... it was messy, and fun as hell in the fall out. He ended up crawling into a bottle...
It was a s@+@fight as the players had to try to keep to lid on the rising crazy. Eventually they needed to go into the prison because it was the only way... it only took them 3-4 sessions to clean house (some REALLY lucky crits coming out at razor edge times saved them from uppowered encounters).
That said the adventure took maybe 30-40 hours to run over 8 sessions or so and online blog/diary (updated by the players)
At the end? The players were totally engaged and locked into Ravensgro. I am about kick off chapter 2 and I'll run it the same way.

Yes, I felt that I could have featured Ravensgro a little more, but I was trying to balance between role-playing and letting the story move along. I will try to improve in the next book. That being said, we can RP in Ravensgro for as long as you folks are comfortable with such.
Lorant Endronil
I appreciate that, WhtKnt. You really did do a good job at communicating a sense of urgency and keeping things moving. I definitely AM glad this game is still going. :)

I'm still here, but you folks seemed content to RP for a little bit.
Mathus Kohlheim
A bit o RP... a little cathartic as well from bailing out at the time as well.
Life is good now. Let's move forward and kick some WW butt.
