He gives one last look to the Oni as the group departs, along with a slight nod of recognition.

Russ'K leads the way down the passage. Approximately 150 feet down the hallway, the floor's slope rapidly increases. To make matters worse, someone has greased it. All but Florin tumble down the slide, rapidly gaining speed.

At the bottom, the slide levels out into a chute, and the Pathfinders slam into a wall at the end. Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 4) = 7 Florin chases after them, carefully climbing down. She does not escape the glyph activated by their passage, which covers everyone in shining glitter and blinds all but Radagast and Arboreal. Wears off a round or three later. The damage does not.

Collecting themselves, the Half Human Company finally gets a sense of their surroundings. Rows of smooth granite pillars line the perimeter of a huge rotunda. Between the pillars, intricate patterns of inlaid stone form the cryptic arcane symbols. Toward the rear of the chamber rises a stepped dais, its broad base inlaid with similar fonts. Atop the dais meditates a slight-built man garbed in flowing yellow robes. Barefooted, he sits with his legs folded as his calm, unblinking gaze stares serenely into space. Below him, surrounding the dais and filling the remainder of the room are gouts of fire, rolling boulders, howling blasts of wind, and rolling torrents of water that churn like a savage and chaotic elemental sea.

Other contestants are already engaged with this swarming mass of elementals, and still more tumble from their own mausoleums into the huge chamber. A pair of whirlwinds break off from the maelstrom to assail attack the nearest Pathfinder: Russ'K.

One swoops in, smacking the half-orc upside the head as it passes. The other locks in, but misses by a hair.

Rapier in hand, he waits for an opportunity to help his comrades.

Prior to climbing down, Florin refreshes the magical protection of Mage armor on herself with a tap of her wand.

With the combat with the elementals seeming immenient, Florin taps herself with a wand that grants her a magical shield.
"I'm ready for combat though I'm concerving my spells for something really nasty."

Russ'K slashes with steel into the closest elemental. The magicians behind him get to work with the life-saving.

Overseer thread

A lone Pathfinder suddenly breaks through the gaping wall of elementals and runs towards the Emissary’s platform, leading the charge. It is Jin-Goro of the Exchange faction!

Cheers erupt from fellow Pathfinders as they rally to keep the gap open whilst the brave and desperate lone figure races forward.

Jin-Goro reaches to touch the platform, but as he does, the Emissary bursts into a maddening laugh, and with a wave of his hand, the platform erupts into a shower of smoke, sparks, and cherry blossoms. Before your eyes, eight monks dressed in the robes of their sifu appear, standing in a circular formation atop the platform. With a calm grace, each one assumes a combat stance. Behind the wall of qinggong disciples, the Sifu again calmly seats himself. He closes his eyes, folds his legs, and sits in the lotus position, awaiting the victors.

This is it - the finale!

Florin cheers with the rest but keeps her mind enough to attempt to dispatch her foe!

Bertha casts Produce Flame, and throws fire at the monk.

With a ferocious kiai that rings throughout the chamber, the monk points at Bertha and her pet. A lance of fire springs from his outstretched hand.

The Pathfinder fumble and frolic around the disciple -- only Betsy the boar is able to penetrate his incredible defenses with a ferocious charge. Now surrounded, the monk cracks his knuckles and starts dishing out punches. The waning power of the qinggong monks under the competitors' assaults keeps the blows from landing.

The whistle of the half-orc's axe through the air is more than enough to tip off the monk, who slides deftly aside. Radagast and Florin fare no better, though the owlbear is able to barrel into the monk from behind. With a flash of insight, Darksid'Ious spears his blade in a perfect thrust, needling a wound into his abdomen like a sap bore in a tree. He doesn't look phased...

Still, the disciple's blood is flowing freely now. He dances toward the Kuthonite and flicks a kick at the inside of his knee, spins with a crescent kick that knocks Darksid'Ious' blade aside like a toothpick, lands in with a powerful palm to the cheek, and blasts a thrust punch to the ribs with such speed and force that the half-elf is lifted bodily two inches off the floor.
