Seeing the looting upon exiting, Rebecca rushes over to the brawl.

"Halt! Get back to your homes immediately or face the full weight of the law!"

Turning to the bloodied guardsman, Rebecca gives him a reassuring smile.

"Rebecca Mavern, formerly of the Guard. Looks like you might need a hand."

Roran will guide Azreal lower to hover over the group. The worst of the fires seem to be in that area of the city! He points clearly towards the Old Korvosa district.

Also, What is that blue dome over there near the walls? He points towards the Heights area where a light blue dome like shape is beginning cover the Academae.

After a moment he sees the guard. Azreal and I will do what we can. He has helped put out fires before, but there are an awful lot of them here..

Looter Mob Sense Motive: 1d20 ⇒ 15
"Oh crap! REAL guards! SCRAM!!!" The mob quickly disperses grabbing as much as they can as they ran away.

The young man looks a little shocked by everything but returns a shaky smile. "Thanks for the help. I needed that."

Turning to Kamilla he says, still a bit in shock from everything, "King Eodred II passed away not more than an hour ago..." His head droops as he speaks.

Looking back up, "Several vigils protesting the policies recently enacted under Queen Ileosa's guidance erupted when they heard. The chaos spread across the city like a plague after that."

Corwin and Knowledge (Arcana) DC 15 -or- (Local) DC 20:
The Acadamae has a slew of magical defenses for emergency situations including an almost impenetrable magical barrier around the school, that effectively isolates it from the rest of Korvosa.

It takes a use or two of his breath weapon but Azreal quickly douses the nearby flames.

Pia, distracted by the clamoring (for once not just in her head), barely notices the poor guardsman running up.

Local: 1d20 ⇒ 9 No idea what the blue thing is!

However once her attention is drawn to the young guardsman, she quickly grabs him. Her voice suddenly more commanding than anyone in the group has heard before, but it is that of a healer not to be denied. "Hold still young man!" And attempts to staunch the flow of blood from his head.
Heal: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
In a much softer voice, "Sorry, my kit is more for birthing than anything else, but that should stop the bleeding until you can get proper attention." Then she uses some minor magics to wet a cloth to clean the blood to ensure the flow has stopped. Create Water

Turning towards the others, "We should check on the children quickly. Zellara and anything else can wait until morning I think?"
A bit confusing is spots, but I think the dragon already dropped off the criminals? If not, then Pia add that to the to-do list after the children.

"Those are the wards of the Academae Roran. They would have been activated as soon as the troubles were noticed. They protect the grounds from various magical influences and mundane threats. However, that is of little import at the moment. I think its best that we find some defensible position for ourselves and our charges and ride out this madness as best we are able."

"Rebecca, is there a guardhouse nearby that we might shelter the children in? Or do you have any other suggestions?" Corwn asks, passing Wren the dagger once more.

"The guard would be the last place I would bring us right now." Rebecca says, shaking her head absently to Corwin's question.

"The King is dead.... long live the Queen, I suppose. Still, poor health or no, this is an ill turn of events."

Shaking her head from her internal reverie, Rebecca turns back to the now healed guardsman. "We have an incident to report, but under the circumstances it can wait until things settle down. Tell your watch captain that Gaedrin Lamm is dead, his gang either dispersed or bound. If this were a normal night we would be bringing the living members in, but I rather think that his hands will be full with... more important matters." She smiles to the man and gives him a scrap of paper with her business address. "I am sure that he remembers who I am, but as he might not have my current address, tell him I will be there soon. Not tonight, but soon."

Turning, she says to her fellows, "I think that we might wish to seek shelter at our patron's establishment this evening. If no other reason than to ensure it is not looted or burned down prior to our getting answers. I am heading there now, I suggest you all follow me. My uniform might be able to get us through any groups that would be... less agreeable otherwise."

Kamilla appears relativily unfazed at the news of the king's demise. "I had heard rumors about his failing health, but wasn't aware of the severity. That certainly explains the situation, the queen isn't particularly well-loved, as I understand it."

When Rebecca suggests heading to Zellara's place, Kamilla shakes her head. "Apologies, but with the city as it is right now, I need to check out my parent's place over in Old Korvosa first, to make sure they and my siblings are not in danger. I will meet up with you afterwards. Hopefully, it won't take long," Kamilla says, but you can sense her voice is tinged with worry.

Rebecca nods, her thoughts going to her own family.

"If circumstances were different, I might accompany you. Failing that, would you check in on my parents as well while you are there? I am not worried about them, but they will likely be concerned about me."

Assuming Kamilla agrees, Rebecca provides her with the address and a quick note, impressing her ring into the paper hard enough that the crest is engrained into the paper.

Corwin nods at Rebecca's suggestion.

"My only hope is that the property is not simply a wreck. The same esoteric magics that allowed Zellara to appear to us and provide us food, could have caused the house to look whole." Corwin muses.

'The death of the King is a horrible thing. More importantly for ourselves and these children, I cannot imagine how the tumult will proceed over the next few days. Historically these paroxysms can be quite deadly.

"Oh, and long live the Queen." he finishes, with little vigor.

Clarification check: didn't most of the kids already leave for either Pia's house or their own destinations? Including the Miss Preet? Thought the only actual kid remaining was yours, Corwin, but could be mistaken.

GM Darth Rancor wrote:
The children gather and lead by Ms. Preet, Wren and the older boys, the motley crew of former Lamm's Lambs heads towards Pia's home.

I remember you saying after this that Wren would not be leaving your side, which makes sense, but the others probably did go.

Battle Map | Korvosa Map

Clarification DC 10: Yes. All the children, except Wren, were sent to Pia's. Where they went after they left your line of sight is anyone's guess. ;p

The young guardsman initially retreats at Pia's advance but quickly realizes her intent and lets her to her work, looking slightly defeated. "Thank you."

He turns to Rebecca, a look of disbelief on his face, "Gaedrin Lamm? THE GAEDRIN LAMM?!?! ... Wow." Stammering for a moment, "Yes, I'll pass it along when I see him. I probably won't see him until tomorrow, because *he motions all around you all* of this."

Spliting the party never goes poorly. >:3 So Rebecca and Corwin want to go to Zellara's, Pia wants to go to her home and check on the kids before joining Kamilla to check on her family (with a possible stop in at Rebecca's)? What will Roran do?

As the group starts discussing splitting up, the young guardsman chimes in, "I'd also volunteer to go with whichever group Ms. Mavern doesn't go with so that both have a city guard presence."

Sense Motive DC 3:
While this isn't a bad idea, it is pretty clear how scared and worried he is and that his suggestion is almost as much for your well-being's as it for his.

Rebecca has to keep herself from smiling at the young man's awe at the news. "Must be a new one. They don't keep their awe too long in this district."

"I understand, as I said if circumstances were different we would be presenting him his corpse for verification right now. As stands, we will keep watch over his former associates for the night and hopefully things will have calmed down enough tomorrow for us to file a proper after action report."

Giving the greenhorn a searching look, Rebecca ultimately shrugs. "That isn't a bad notion, though I suspect that things should get progressively less bad the further from here you get. Still, I imagine that Mrs. Verlaine and Miss Moor could use the company. Just don't underestimate them if fighting starts... they did just help topple a minor crime lord and his flunkies, after all."

"Alright, let's not dawdle here too long then," Kamilla says as she sets off towards the direction of Old Korvosa, with Pia and the young guardsman in tow.

Kamilla's goal is to hit all three places as quickly and briefly as possible, to make sure that everyone is alright, and to ensure parents and children that we are okay as well. I don't want to hold up the game unnecessarily, I just felt that with Kamilla's family ties flaw, she would want to check on her family in this chaos.

No worries from me, makes as much sense as anything.

Nodding to Kamilla as she sets off, Rebecca turns to her prisoners. (Assuming they are awake and not unconscious, being carried by Az.)

"Your boss is dead. We can show you his corpse and that of his pet if you don't believe us. Try to flee and you will join him in the boneyards."

Corwin looks uneasily at the orange glow in the sky before turning back to the ex-guardswoman.

"Wren and I will proceed directly to Zellara's unless you wish for some accompaniment Rebeca?" he asks.

"To be honest, I feel that it is best to get off the streets as soon as possible. I can't imagine that those who are attempting to reinstate law are going to discriminate from anyone who is loitering around and simply assume the worst...hell knights being what they are."

"Might be safest if we all proceed together. With any luck we will only have to deal with Sable Company and the Guard. I doubt the Queen will have called on the Knights... at least yet."

"At least I pray not yet..."

Shaking the thought aside, Rebecca quickly guides the group to the nearest guard post to drop off their prisoners (instructing the guardsman on duty not to release them until the district captain had a chance to speak with them) before guiding them back to Zellara's place once more.

All pending GM interruptions due to random encounters, etc.

Battle Map | Korvosa Map

Each group is marked as a cross on the Korvosa map.

Rebecca, Corwin and Wren, Roran and Azreal:

Of the remaining captives, the only one still conscious is the halfling. He opens his mouth to respond but his hard expression gives way to silent resignation to his fate. "No. I'm good. We won't give you any trouble."

After heaping the half-orc's and the blond guy's unconscious bodies onto Azreal your little troop heads off.

The nearest guard post is, luckily not all that far away (only a few minutes walk).

Rebecca Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Corwin Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Wren Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Roran Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Azreal Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Revecca Intimidate: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28

The walk passes by fairly uneventful. It's easy to avoid the other fires you see, which while they seem to thin out a little are still present in seemingly the whole city. Azreal luckily spotted a small group of cutpurses and informed the others before they got too close. Rebecca took point and went "full guard mode" causing the gang to run off into the shadows with nothing but a withering scowl.

Upon reaching the guard post you find it running on a skeleton crew who, when they see you, quickly ready weapons or hide.

"Stay back! Don't mess with the Korvosan Guard!"
Rebecca Sense Motive: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Corwin Sense Motive: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Wren Sense Motive: 1d20 ⇒ 20
Roran Sense Motive: 1d20 ⇒ 9
Azreal Sense Motive: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

He's not all that intimidating, especially with the amount of shaking in his voice and body alongside the small group of guards holding this post.

Kamilla, Pia and Young Guardsman:

It's not long into your walk before the young guardsman speaks up, "Thank you for having me along, I'm Mattuen Salys. As a fair warning, the rioting gets more He pauses for a second collecting his thoughts energetic the more north you go."

True to his word you notice riot fires and the sounds of conflict become more present all around you.

Kamilla Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Pia Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (15) - 1 = 14
Mattuen Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20

As the group nears a prominent crossroads a store bursts into flames and a small group of looters emerges from the shop. They quickly take notice of you three and begin to approach.

Mattuen Will: 1d20 ⇒ 19
Mattuen Bluff: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Cutpurses S.M.: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Seeing the figures illuminated by the flames behind Mattuen looks as if he's about to run but instead steels his expression and draws his sword.

Shouting at the looters, "Vacate the streets! The Hell Knights are on their way and they aren't as forgiving as the Korvosan Guard."

Panic spreads through the looters who turn tail and run.

"Lets keep moving. Gods know whoelse is lurking in the streets."

Your group reaches the large northern square in North Point. From here you can see there is significantly more smoke coming from Old Korvosa compared to the rest of the city. There are two main way into Old Korvosa from here. First is the stone Jeggrate Bridge, which is on the other side of Mainshore. The section of the city that is kinda walled off just north of where your group's marker is placed. The second is any of the wooden boardwalk bridges lining The Narrows.

Team Kamilla:
"If the rioting is worst in the Old city, chances are that's where the hellknights will dispatch first and heaviest. We should take the footpaths, I think, even though while we have the Mattuen here with us, probably safest still to avoid questions."

Pia voices before turning to ask Kamilla, "Unless the bridge is closer to our destinations?"

Corwin, Rowan, GM (and friends):

Rebecca shakes her head at the sight of the guards. "More greenhorns... what has the city come to..."

"Stand down. My name is Rebecca Mavern, former member of the Guard, South and East Shores respectively. My companions and I bring captives and news: Gaedrin Lamm is dead. Kamilla & Pia:
Kamilla visibly relaxes as the looters scurry off. "Well done, Mattuen. I'm Kamilla Moor, I work in Pharasma's cathedral. The king's death sure seems to have had dire consequences, the city appears to have gone mad."

Adressing Pia's proposal, Kamilla says, "I tend to agree, sticking to the quieter streets seems prudent. We better move fast, so we can meet up again with the others." With a worried look on the plumes of smoke in the distance, she adds, "Let's hope your Mattuen's charm works equally well should we run into Hellknights."

Kamilla then hurries across the square, quickly plotting the most efficient route to their destinations.

"Oh, and I do have a gift for the Queen that she will be interested in." Quickly fishing out the brooch, she shows it to the green guard before placing it back in her pack of evidence. Rebecca, Corwin & Wren, Roran & Azrael:

The guard at the guard post looks at Rebecca and her small group warily. "Gaedren Lamm? I'm afraid I don't know anything about that miss, and I currently have no idea where our captain is. The city has gone crazy. I─I can open the cells and lock those two captives up, but we've been instructed not to leave our post for anything. I strongly suggest you return to your homes and lock yourselves in until this madness has subsided." The guard then pulls out a keyring, and instructs some of his colleagues to relieve you of your two captives.

As you're about to be on your way, the sound of armored boots hitting the pavement draws your attention. Some of the most feared sights to behold in the city of Korvosa rounds the corner─four of them, all clad in their signature black armor, wearing helms with forward-facing horns and armed with halberds. Hellknights of the order of the Nail.

They stop as they see you, readying their large fearsome weapons, obviously aimed at Azrael, the large dragon. "HALT! Stand and identify yourselves!", their leader yells with a commanding voice.

Rebecca sighs and nods as the prisoners are escorted out. Handing the guard a wooden card with her business address, she smiles. "Give that to you your captain. He will know who left it. Stay alive, greenhorn."

At the sign of the Hellknights, Rebecca groans. "I was wondering how long it would be before you and your brethren were dispatched to help keep order. Rebecca Mavern, formerly of the Korvosian Guard. My companions and I are simply returning home for the evening after dealing with some of the local criminal element."

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25

"Corwin, professor of magic and knowledge. His daughter, Wren, whom we just finished rescuing after being abducted by a minor crime lord. Roran, and his pet Azrael, who are visiting the city. I think they may have a future in the Sable Company, though we have yet to ask if they are taking new recruits."

"Wren," he says quietly to his daughter as the knights tromp closer, "Keep very silent, we have to be very careful or the Hellknights will come to the wrong conclusion."

Listening to Rebecca make the introductions he thinks, She does have a silver tounge, at the very least. Might allow us to keep our heads this evening.

"Good evening Sir Knights. As Madame Mavern has said, I am Corwin Avelard, and this is my daughter, Wren Avelard." Corwin says, echoing Rebecca.

Good enough, I will let Rebecca take the lead. She will likely handle this much better than I would.

The Hellknight commander grunts in acknowledgement. "A bad night to be out on the street, one might confuse you and your heavily armed brethren for the so-called criminal element."

He then turns to the dragon and Roran. "And this is your pet you say? I'm afraid we cannot have a dragon strutting about on a night like this. They're known to start fires, you see, like the ones that have been popping up all over the city. I'm afraid your dragon will have to come with us. I'm placing him in custody."

Azrael glances at Roran, who almost imperceptibly shakes his head. "Of course commander, he's quite harmless really, we'll go with you without trouble."

The Hellknights visibly relax at this development, and Roran gives you a wink before the are both escorted away by the contingent. The commander turns on his heels and gives the rest of you a look, his actual face hidden behind the metal helmet. "I suggest strongly you get off the streets as soon as possible. This chaos might take a while before it lets up."

Sense Motive DC 28:
The Hellknights are clearly extremely nervous, made all the worse so by coming across a fully-grown dragon. They seem to take the current rioting very serious.

Maps & Handouts || Korvosa Map

As Roran and Azrael are led away by the contingent of Hellknights, you can't help but wonder if you'll ever see them again.

Your time for reflection is short however, as the frantic clang of alarm bells brings you back to reality. In the distance, you can hear the multifarious cacophony of steel on steel, shrieks of terror, and even the periodic detonation of arcane power. Somewhere amid the chaos, the voice of a Korvosan herald cuts through the din: "The king is dead! Long live the queen!" He is quickly shouted down by ragged cries of "Hang the queen!" and "The usurper must die!"

The city seems to be tearing itself apart.

Suddenly, a wing of Sable Company hippogriff riders swoops overhead, angling towards Castle Korvosa at a breakneck pace. One of the badly wounded hippogriff mounts rains blood down on the street around you, before it succumbs and collapses headlong into a statue, taking its rider with it in a bone-crunching crash.

The others in the flight do not pause, apart from a single one that breaks off and lands near you. The tall, strongly-built man wears the Sable Company uniform of black leather, and hurries to check on his fallen ally.

"In all of my dealings, I have never seen the Knights of the Nail so... apprehensive. Either the rioting is much worse than we have seen so far, or there is something else going on. Well, granted Azrael probably is adding to that."

Rebecca nods, and gives Roran and Azrael a reassuring smile. "Just do what they say and you should be fine. You know where to meet us once things have calmed down a bit."

Turning back to the contingent's commander, Rebecca gives a half bow. "May Sarenrae's light guide you through this dark night, commander. We should be off the street soon, it isn't far from where we are sheltering."

With that, she begins to guide Corwin and Wren to the house of the late mystic.

King's dead...explains the smoke. Algund walks down the street at a reasonable pace, glaive gripped tightly in his hands. He looks up at the sky again, watching a group of hippogriffs fly northwest. Maybe they'll just turn...yeah he says to himself, softly. Maybe not. Hopefully just getting some orders from the castle. Maybe not. Maybe just to help the nobles on the hill. Nah, no way, they definitely want to put out the fires and bring order to old Korvosa, gotta win their trust. I think, anyway, I do hope that's what's going to happen. He watches the wide wings of the animals, strong and sturdy, as they pass by.

Then, just a little ways in front of him, one of the animals falls. Ah man, that's... he's hurt. He can't be too hurt, right? Probably they train to fall, so he'd be fine. Yeah...right then...guess I should... Leave him? I shouldn't leave him. The crowds won't be friendly. Plus look, his mate's landing, can ask him for an overview of the situation.

Algund jogs after the man, rounding the corner and stopping before the statue. He stands tall and strong, shoulders broad and hips narrow, mail hauberk covering him close, the visor of his helmet raised to reveal a face which gleams with good intention. He carries his glaive like a noble would carry a dead fish, away from his body and rather limply. When Algund sees the number of people on the street, he closes his mouth. Don't talk to yourself in company. They've got weapons and a young girl, not looters.

Hello! Algund begins enthusiastically, rather at odds with the surroundings. How's it look? he asks the marine who stands. Algund approaches the fallen rider and inspects him from a distance. Mind if I take a closer look? I'm from the temple, could heal him assuming he's alive. He's probably dead, though. Yup...probably real dead. He's probably also friends with the living one. Dead though, and not your fault.

Heal to inspect damage: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

As he kneels down before the fallen rider, Algund raises his voice and talks to the others. You folk live around here? Your daughter looks a bit young, you probably don't want to be out in this mess, so I uh, I guess not right? I guess you're just trying to find somewhere safe for things to die down? And how are things...huh...yeah, how are things? This last part is more clearly addressed to the Marine who stands.

The black-clad rider nods nods to the armored man. "Please." he says, stepping back from the shattered form of the rider. Where did those arrows come from? Poor Jon. Even if he lives, he won't be flying for a while.

Returning to his young hippogriff, he strokes her feathered face. "Shh. Good girl. Stay here. Guard." he says, motioning with his hands to encompass the area around the downed rider.

"Hello there." he says, pitching his voice to reach the others as well as the armored man. Astute listeners might catch the barest hint of an Ulfen accent. "I'm Thorfinn, of the Sable Company. Nasty night, isn't it?" he then turns slightly, to more clearly address the warrior. "It's a mess. The King is dead, so, long live the queen I guess, but you know how she's seen by much of the populace. Lots of folks out there don't want to accept a young, gold-digging outsider as monarch, and there's riots all over town. I don't care for their methods, but without Domina's Devils I'm not sure the Guard and Marines would be able to keep order. It's touch-and-go as is. If you don't mind my asking, what are y'all doing out here? It would be much safer to go to your homes."

I understand that, not a good idea to make a joke about ineffectual Marines Algund trails off, though he looks like he might want to say something else.

For myself I was looking into a rather pressing matter down by the Gold Market when the city lit up. Some fellow whose kid went missing, said he'd seen other kids go missing as well, and a few of the little ones about his stalls looking to steal something. Algund's voice is even and clear, and he looks around at the others for a moment. Little ones, like your little one there, he glances at Rebecca and Corwin, think I may have found who took 'em.

Anyhow, I decided not to try to take him down on my own, wanted to gather some friends back at, I live at a temple, so back at the temple. Of Shelyn. Articulate. Probably could've killed him yourself, too. Then I was thinking to myself, if I just keep going, this fellow here he indicates the fallen rider would certainly get torn apart by a crowd of rioters. Now, naturally because I did decide to stop it turns out that he's surrounded by some decent enough folk, but uh...that actually about sums it up. He looks around and nods.

Think I'd make it up to North Point safely?

The man is unconscious, but alive. He is hurt badly though, with a nasty headwound and possibly a cracked skull. For his hippogriff mount, all assistance comes to late.

Seeing the fallen hippogriff, Wren gasps. Then before Corwin can grab her, she darts towards the small group of men and the two flying beasts.

Wren, ignoring her father continues up the street. In a moment, she has closed the distance with the alacrity that only youth possess and worms between the two men.

"Is it going to be okay?" she, concern and ash plain on her face, as she asks the uniformed man, pointing at the sprawled legs and wings of the hippogriff.

As Algund speaks, his hands glow faintly, faint stings of glowing gossamer dripping from his fingers, which he wraps around the injured man's skull. After a moment, he stands back up, nodding once.

He'll live.

"Wren, be a good girl and step back. Let the marine tend to his friend."

Though she has a smile on her face, she says this with a firm tone that indicates that she is not making a suggestion.

Turning to address the two newcomers, Rebecca smiles.

"Well met. Rebecca Mavern, formerly of the Korvosian Guard. If the formal dress leathers didn't give that away." She laughs a little at the joke.

"Now I serve the city as a private investigator. My companion, Corwin, and I were just wrapping up a case when all of this started. Thankfully the snake we were hunting was dealt with decisively, otherwise it would have been too easy for him to slip to some hidden bolt hole or other under the cover of the riots."

Placing a hand on Wren's shoulder, she gently steers the younger lady back toward her father.

"Anyway, it is not safe to stay out here. You said you were looking into a missing child. Come find me after all of this settles down. If your case was related to mine, I should know where he is. Or at least who might know where he went off to." She hands Algund a wooden card similar to the one she left at the guard's post detailing her shops location and hours.

"If you will excuse us, we have business to finish with a woman that either is the twin of a dead woman or said woman's her vengeful ghost. Stay safe on the streets and seek shelter. As for you," she turns to Thorfinn, "get your fellow on your griffin and back to the castle. Fast. Otherwise you will find naught but his dead stripped corpse when you return with aid."

Gaedren Lamm, I think it was. That's what I've gathered anyway. She is very attractive. I'll be sure to drop by soon. Married though, with a kid, clearly unavailable. Still a good idea to find Lamm.

Rebecca Mavern wrote:

He might have a broken skull, not a good idea to be jostling him around on a griffon.

Algund turns to Thorfinn, do they give bumpy rides? He's essentially a limp sack of potatoes so uh, not going to ride easy. Do they even have the strength to carry two? Hmm...you're not very well off at all, really, you've got an injured friend with no mount, and a big mount that won't hide well...will it hide well? Can it even fit inside? Because if you can't fly away and can't hide, you're just uh...not actually going to finish this sentence. Algund finished breathlessly and shakes his head, a grim smile on his face.

A cold smile graces Rebecca's face. "Thought so."

"Then yes, I definitely know where your missing child is. As well as Lamb. Or rather, Lamb's body. We slew the scoundrel freeing Miss Avelard and several others not two hours ago. Including the child I was under contract to find. Had this been a normal evening, celebrations would be in order. As it is... well, those will have to come later."

Looking at the unconscious rider, she shakes her head. "Better to risk it I would say. Even tying his form to the back of the saddle and having it return alone that way might be preferable to certain death."

Right then, dead as a dead person is the right amount of dead for the dead person. The dead person in that sentence being Lamm, and not the dead person who isn't as dead as a dead person, that's an entirely different dead person. Algund pauses for a moment, hoping for comprehension. Anyway, good that he's dead, I'll try to hunt down the kids who went missing and see them in their rightful homes.

Rebecca Mavern wrote:

Certainly, Algund adds quickly, but uh, I don't actually think there aren't other options. I'd definitely heal this fellow a bit more before going that road. As he speaks, Alugnd sets down his pack and sits beside it, looking up at the others for a moment. Wonder if they'll sit down too. He then produces a small lamp, which he struggles to light using flint and steel. After some time, however, light flares to life, illuminating the street in a small circle. She looks rather young to be married to the old one, and the kid's one of Lamms.

Nice.

Male Lizardfolk Sorcerer 1/Dragon Disciple 3

With a frown, Thorfinn shakes his head. "Unfortunately, that's not an option." he gestures toward his hippogriff, who looks back at him inquisitively. "She's barely big enough to carry me, much less two. She can carry him out on foot. That's probably the best option, but it isn't going to be fast."

Technically, according to the Monstrous Mount rules for Hippogriffs, she isn't supposed to be able to fly with a rider at all until I take Monstrous Mount Mastery (at 6th). In my head I was handwaving his appearance as being part of a short training flight with a young mount. Two riders is definitely out. Besides, this way the party can stay together. Maybe.

Well then, is there anywhere nearby you could go to hide out for a while? Castle Korvosa's not exactly close. Algund leans heavily on his glaive, looking around at the surrounding area.

Rebecca shrugs, looking at Corwin.

"Assuming it is fine with Corwin, the place we are going should be large enough to shelter. Well, apart from your hippogriff that is."

She holds her hand out for the mount to smell her scent, palm and fingers down.

"A few others should be meeting us there eventually. One of them, Mrs. Verlaine, took in most of the orphans formerly under Lamm's control. If your friend isn't under her roof tonight, chances are there is some other orphan who is that might have a lead on where they went."

The young guard at the nearby guardpost approaches you, glancing at the fallen rider.

"He looks in bad shape. I'm no healer, but he doesn't seem fit to travel very far. The temple of Sarenrae is closest. With the city as it is right now, they've probably got their hands full, but if you help me carry him inside, we can call on them first thing tomorrow morning." In the distance, another magical explosion echoes through the night. "Probably," the guard adds as he winces.

For the first time since surfacing to the chaos, Rebecca smiles in a deep, genuine way. "That is the spirit. Korvosian Guard, keeping those in harms way safe as always. Glad to see that some things have not changed since my time." Clapping the guardsman on the shoulder in an affectionate arm embrace, she helps him and Thorfinn get the injured man into the shelter of the guard post.

"Knights of the Nail and others of Sable Company have been deployed. The city should return to some order soon. Until then, keep vigilant, keep alive."

Corwin, moving a bit slower than his companion, arrives to firmly take Wren's hand, then kneels in the street to look square in her face.

"No more of that now, Wren. I can't have you disappearing into the smoke and confusion when I just found you again. Getting separated, even for a few moments, could be enough for you and I to lose sight with one another." he says to her, then gives her a quick hug.

Corwin turns to the two newcomers, the guard and Rebecca.

"Of course with the Knights of the Nail, they tend to just hammer things into the ground until order is restored. After all, if troublemakers are dead, then they stop making trouble." Corwin says, ruefully.

"But Rebecca is correct, the place that we have in mind will be a good place to shelter. I believe that there is an alley behind the location as well where we might lead your mount to keep it from searching eyes...and off the street. You may not be able to take to the sky from there, however...it would be narrow." Corwin says, thinking back to the home, and how the dragon stuck his head in from the side.

"We should get moving..."

What else can you do, right? It's rough, real rough, one thing when there's just a few people, but a whole crowd of troublemakers...best to stay far away. Not really any good options available if you come face to face with a group of people. Algund shakes his head.

The place you have in mind... Algund says warily, Can I uh...can I come with you? I had been planning on trying to make my own way home but uh...well...that's an awful idea. And I'm not a fan of staying with the guards either, I mean, don't get me wrong, I don't hate all the guards, but uh...they might ask me to do something I'll regret.

It'd be fine though, if you told me to get lost, I'm sure I'd figure it out.
