Hey folks. I'm back but may be intermittent in the coming weeks. TLDR; my dad had a massive heart attack and is in the hospital, so please send positive thoughts and prayers.

Ritual sacrifice to the Elders gods are acceptable too. (dark humor is a coping mechanism...)

Anyway, I should be able to get back on a schedule but things could change immediately. Will keep GM posted at least if anything turns south.

Happy New Year! And thanks for pardoning my absence.

Am I mistaken about where we going? I thought we were going back to the cave that we left early. Is there a different tower that we are supposed to go find?

Nope. No tower. It's a tomb on an island.

Possibly Alister is referring to the fact that the island is in the form of a rocky pinnacle.

That was my understanding too (about the tower), it's the rocky pinnacle. I sort of pictured it as a natural-looking tower.

Thank you for all thoughts and prayers! Luckily, I am able to visit him and do so daily.

Out of curiosity. Is there anyway for a player to move a game from Current Campaigns to Previous campaigns if the GM is the one that poofs? Or is the GM the only one that can do that?

Friends, I’ve very badly injured my hand today and can’t move it. I’ve had many stitches. I’m typing this with only one hand.

I’m going to step away from my games for several days to a week. If I am a player, please bot me. If I am the GM, I’ll see you in a few days.

I am library faculty. I teach classes how to do the research they have by locating and using good sources. I will have you know, some research projects are much more interesting then others.

Do tell.

Male UPP: 446C7C

Library research projects to find sources and references?

A friend of mine does legal research, sometimes on contract, but usually for a firm that does a variety of litigation ... he usually finds it fascinating.

Apropos of nothing, I was in a county law library yesterday and heard the librarian repeatedly call it a "Liberry". I was cringing hard.

Yes, I work with a variety of different classes. Normally English or English Lit classes, but the occasional history, psychology or nutrition class. I am not sure beyond English what will be big at the new college.

The instructor provides the class with their assignment and then schedules a time during class when they come to the library and we show them databases that are good fits for the research, review the ways to quickly and effectively limit resources to what they need. Some classes come multiple times over a single semester, but often I only see a given class once. There are some awesome research assignments. One instructor is very creative in what he does. There are others that are less interesting.

I blame the pronunciation on that weird eastern part of the country you live in.

Guys...

I hate to be a pushy GM, but I don't want the campaign to end early so...

Your characters are very nearly dead and you're playing around with the furniture. What do you think Vordakai is doing right now? He's getting ready to come back and murder your characters.

Does Mikhail/Alister have enough combat healing to do a significant amount of it? If not, we need to retreat.

Human Bard (Sorcerer) 10 [hp 128/128 | F+18, R+19, W+18 (+2 vs Sleep) | AC 28 | Perception +15 | Focus Points: 3/3]

Alister can burn more spells on healing, but it'll take a round each at least. I think Mikhail should have more HP after that last Soothe. I doubt we can get to full healing, but not being in the same place when he might return is also smart.

Mikhail is a fighter. Asking if I have significant amounts of healing will almost always result in a negative response.

Kern already used up the heal pots from Mikhail. Happy to consolidate for group healing.

A couple more rounds of healing and stay as spread out as possible. If we're not healing, we have readied actions to split to the winds once Vordakai shows up.

Any other ideas?

I think we retreat back to the open ledge, healing as we can. The caverns leading there are channeled and Kern can place several snares along our retreat to signal any incoming intruders. If we're attacked and not ready for it, we can jump from the ledge to retreat?

Kern can place the following along the route. In order or Vordakai's assumed approach from the tar pit. Assuming he doesn't Dimension Door to us... :/

Warning Snare so we know he's coming.:

Using materials specific to the area, you connect a sound‑making component to a trip wire or a pressure plate. This snare is like an alarm snare, but its subtle sound blends into ambient noise. You can detect this sound as long as you’re within 1,000 feet of the snare and aren’t prevented from hearing it. Other creatures in that area who are searching might notice the sound if their Perception check result meets or exceeds your Craft DC.

Striking Snare for damage, maybe.:

You affix a trip line or other trigger to a group of either stones or wooden stakes to strike a creature that enters the snare’s square. The creature must attempt a DC 26 basic Reflex saving throw. If you choose stones, the snare deals 9d8 bludgeoning damage; if you choose spikes, it deals 9d8 piercing damage.

Hampering Snare at the doorway to slow him and make him flat-footed to Kern.:

You arrange brambles, wires, sticky goo, or other materials to interfere with a creature’s movement. The square with this snare, as well as three adjacent squares (to form a 10-foot-by-10-foot area), become difficult terrain when the first creature enters the snare’s square. The difficult terrain affects the creature’s movement right away, including its movement into the triggering square, and it lasts for 1d4 rounds after the snare is triggered. A creature can use an Interact action to clear the difficult terrain out of a single square early.

I agree about retreating to a secure spot, healing and prepping for a return to combat.

Vordikai will pick us off one by one if we stay apart.

I have 0 ideas on how we could have avoided something like this.

What sort of self-preservation are we looking at here? I don't think we escape this without multiple character deaths.

Kern may just jump off the ledge and fly away as a bird or something but he's hardly the character I would expect we need to survive. I would think one of the Medvyed brothers need to survive this battle at the minimum?

Thoughts?

Human Bard (Sorcerer) 10 [hp 128/128 | F+18, R+19, W+18 (+2 vs Sleep) | AC 28 | Perception +15 | Focus Points: 3/3]

We might have screwed ourselves. Our team isn't built to recover quickly.

The Medvyed brothers were not the initial focus of the Kingdom. It would be a big blow to the people if both of us died, but part of the story here (as Alister has told it) is the strength of the community and people itself. It would survive the death of a leader.

This is an extreme fight (CR +4). PC deaths are probable. Vordakai is a truly epic antagonist and I'm trying to play him as both arrogant (jumping right into you instead of lobbing fireballs from hundreds of feet away) and intelligent (blipping out to heal himself).

I would say that the team, which is excellent in most respects, has failed to adequately prepare for its own healing needs. In the absence of a dedicated cleric, alchemist or medic, I think you probably should have stocked up on healing potions and scrolls.

But that's armchair analysis. Let's see you beat this guy and prevail!
