Preli Othont III |

as soon as the creature begins to form, a cloud of smoke envelopes Preli as he fires his pistol
Up close and deadly!: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 1d6 ⇒ (8) + (6) = 14

Arkady Bollerend |

Arkady takes the longsword in both hands and attempts to strike at the creature with a powerful overhead blow.
Power Attack, two handed
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

GM Shady |

The creatures goes down under a clatter of blows, to the extent that by the time Preli and Kayla attack, they're firing into and attacking what is essentially a corpse - a messy, purple, long-limbed, starfish-like creature inside what is now a broken carapace. A white unguent, striated with purple, bleeds from the body into the sand beneath.
The group is able to move to the area where Kayla and Darian had been standing, without incident. In the absence of wind, the sand still contains multiple tracks of other explorers, all following a similar route to the east.
This is the light coloured track you can just about make out in Roll20.

Kayla Striegold |

Kayla again takes the lead, not worrying about stealth in this vast open area where their light source would be seen be anything in it, but to look for traps or other signs of danger. She only needs a couple of feet - not the longer gap...
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22 (+1 vs. traps)

Arkady Bollerend |

"Constructed? But how? Even dwarves know to put a roof on eventually," Arkady says in his usual raspy tones.

Adrien Belmont |

"Well, of course it's some type of ruin," Adrien says, continuing to walk inwards in awe unless someone extends a hand to stop him. "But the question is, what created this cavern? It's unlikely to see such a structure naturally this close to the surface, and with the other strange things we've seen... it has to be connected to these machines. Why else would those automatons, even inactive ones, be guarding the entrance? Why would they be pulling such things from these caves if they weren't linked?" Amazed, Adrien leans down and lets the sand sift through his fingers. "We could learn so much here, discover so much about what happened here."

Preli Othont III |

Reloading his pistol Preli wonders to himself then let's out a shrill whistle, attempting to gauge the size of the cavern by listening to the echoes
"Not how but why. Why build a huge cavern unless you've got something massive to keep in it..."
Preli shudders and scuttles to stay with the others

Arkady Bollerend |

Arkady harrumphs quietly to himself, his voice quiet though no less raspy, as he looks up. "It's been many a year since I spent any much time beneath the earth, and those quarters were cramped with the stone cut nary a whisker above our tallest's scalp. Wide open spaces like this should be left for what is above ground."

GM Shady |

I've moved the various PCs on Roll20, assumed all are following Kayla along the track and expanded the visible area based on Kayla's low light vision (Darian also has it, but the areas just about coincide).
Led by Kayla, the group progress along the path laid out by the tracks in the sand. About ten yards south of their starting point within the vast chamber, something scrambles out of a dune. It's a four armed skeleton, similar to some that were painted on the walls of the Gathering's caves, apparently armed with nothing but claws. Its eyes briefly glow bright green.
Darian and Kayla can see a similar skeleton emerge from the sand some way off to the east, and this skeleton in turn starts to shamble towards the group.
Initiative
Thum: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Adrien: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Arkady: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
OZ: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Kayla: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Darian: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Preli: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Skeletons: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Round 1. Initiative order is Darian, Skeletons, { Kayla, Preli, Arkady, Thum, Adrien, OZ }. Those within the {} can post in any order when their block is up, but I'll resolve in initiative order. Looks like I'm botting Thum. The rest of the group are unaware of the second skeleton unless Darian and/or Kayla point it out and won't have line of sight until it covers about half of the distance between its current position and the group.
Technically Darian and Kayla still have stealth.
Darian is up.

GM Shady |

I can see the map, but not my token or the skeletal enemies. Which one I bomb will depend on distance.
I've joined as a player to check and can see everything correctly. It's possible you're looking at the wrong area, so try zooming out to work out where the tokens are. At any rate, one skeleton is currently 2 squares (10 feet) due south from you. The other is 9 east, 5 north, so the direct distance is 45ft.

Kayla Striegold |

Kayla shouts out a warning about the two skeleton-things coming at them, then focuses her attention, and her shortswords, on the closest one.
Attack 1: 1d20 ⇒ 11
Damage 1: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Attack 2: 1d20 ⇒ 6
Damage 2: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Although with those rolls it won't matter =(

Darian Six |

I can see the map and about half of the party, but not myself or the monsters. Just technical difficulties, I suppose.
Darian retrieves a small ceramic vial and breaks off the top. He lobs it at one of the nearby undead and it detonates on arrival.
Attacking the closer skeleton with a bomb.
Bomb: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14 (includes point blank shot bonus)
Bomb damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

GM Shady |

That is a hit on the skeleton and a splash hit on Kayla.
Darian's bomb hits the nearest skeleton, blowing it to smithereens - and showering Kayla in shrapnel from the nearby explosion. The shattered bones sink quickly - perhaps a bit too quickly - back into the sand.
The second skeleton lurches swiftly across the sand, to within 10 feet of Kayla.
Kayla takes 6 hp damage.
It's 10 feet east of Kayla. Kayla you might want to now modify your intended move, since the first skeleton is destroyed and the second is now 10 feet away (not close enough for a 5 foot step, obvs). Everyone bar Darian is now up.

Arkady Bollerend |

Arkady strides forward to the four-armed skeleton, gripping the longsword in both hands. He swings the weapon in a wide, cleaving arc in an attempt to cut the creature's legs from beneath it.
I've also cleaned up the stat bar as I still had it set to the time before the group slept.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 - 1 - 1 ⇒ (3) + 4 - 1 - 1 = 5 (power attack, buckler equipped)
Damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12

OZ-M1; "Ozymandias" |

Loose sand flies from the ground as Ozymandias charges towards the second skeleton, the strange ratcheting sound echoing of his mechanized fist faintly echoing off the walls. "Engaging target," his voice drones, just seconds before he brings his massive fist around towards the skeleton's chest.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Damage: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (4, 1) + 7 = 12
Ozymandias will charge the remaining skeleton; I was unsure if the map was up to date, but from verbal description I believe he would be 10+ feet away? If not, he will make a normal attack, making his total attack roll 17.

Preli Othont III |

sorry, sorry sorry!
Preli curses hops to one side to get a better view then fires off his pistol at the remaining skeleton
Ranged touch attack: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 - 4 = 10
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 7
Moving to avoid cover pens. -4 for melee included above.

GM Shady |

Preli's shot misses the skeleton, as does Arkady's blow. OZ's charge and its momentum, however, manages to utterly pulverise the attacker. The broken bones sink back swiftly into the sand.
Knowing this, I'll just have Thum move towards the group.
New round.
Two more skeletons appear, moving toward the group from beyond the dunes.
They're visible in Roll20, one about 4 squares northeast of the group (or of Preli) and the other about 5 squares southeast of OZ.
The skeletons have taken their turns for this round, so the group can move; those whose initiative preceded the skeletons I'll treat as having delayed their move and would have first initiative now.

Adrien Belmont |

"Ozzy, hold on a moment!" Adrien shouts, rushing up beside his armored automaton. He places his hands on the machine's side, muttering a few arcane verses under his breath, and a moment later Ozymandias is surrounding by a pale, white glow before it subsides. "That should keep you safe," Adrien says, before stepping back with his staff outstretched towards the other skeleton, held tightly in both hands. "Take it down!"
Adiren casts Mage Armor.

OZ-M1; "Ozymandias" |

"Affirmative; moving to intercept target," Ozymandias says, after allowing Adrien to grant him some magical protection. Once his master steps back, Ozymandias bursts forward again with tremendous speed towards the other skeleton, swinging his open hand around towards the undead monstrosity. Instead of pulverizing it in one blow, Ozymandias attempts to grab the creature and crush it in his oversized hand, before casting the broken bones aside into the sand.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Damage: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (4, 3) + 7 = 14
CHAAAARGE!

GM Shady |

I'm assuming neither characters nor skeletons are flat-footed as the new skeletons arrive - the skeletons are somehow already aware of the characters, hence they're moving towards them.
I'm also, with Thum, going to use a strategy of always holding to the end of the round, unless moving earlier would help. The rest of the team can call out moves for Thum if they wish (and if they make sense).
Darien's bolt hits, but for some reason does no damage to its target. Kayla's arrow misses completely.
Waiting on Preli before resolving the other moves.

Arkady Bollerend |

Arkady, seeing a clear line between himself and Ozy's current opponent, growls as glowing green cracks appear around his knuckles and his eyes begin to glow as if the inside of his skull were lit by green flames. He roars as he charges across the sands, swinging the longsword with all his might when he reaches the skeleton.
Free Action: enter Bloodrage (+4 Str, +4 Con, +2 to Will saves)
Full Round Action: Charge and attack with power attack
Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 2 - 1 - 1 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 2 - 1 - 1 = 7 (Charge, power attack, buckler estill equipped)
Damage: 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
Edit: Really?! After all that, a 1?? Off of both dice, no less :( Petitioning for new dice roller..

Preli Othont III |

Deftly emptying the chamber of his pistol and replacing the charge, Preli fires at the skeleton approaching from the north east
Touch Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 3

GM Shady |

Preli's shot hits, breaking several of the skeleton's bones, but it still stands, and continues to move toward the group. Although Arkady's blow misses, OZ slams hard into the other skeleton, smashing it completely. The bones sink quickly into the sand, as had the others.
Thum breaks into a run towards the remaining skeleton (the one shot at by Preli), swinging his warhammer two-handed as he moves, shouting and snarling some incomprehensible Kellid battle-cry and bringing the warhammer down heavily as he reaches the skeleton.
Charge, rage.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 5 + 2 + 2 = 28
Damage: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
The skeleton folds before the blow, the scattered shards falling, like those previously, quickly beneath the dunes. Thum stands over the scene, half breathless, half exhilarated. "Har!" he roars. "Tales to tell shall I have, for my dear ones!"
Then he looks up.
"Others come," he says, grimly.
Two further skeletons are approaching, one from the north (pretty much 30ft due north of where Thum is now located) and one from the east (40ft east-northeast of Arkady and OZ).
As before, the skeletons have acted for this round, so you each have an action. Initiative is {Darian, Kayla, Preli, Arkady, Thum, Adrien, OZ }. If the skeletons engage, they'll go after Darian next turn.

Arkady Bollerend |

Eyes still aflame with arcane rage, Arkady charges across the sand towards the approaching four-armed skeleton, roaring incomprehensibly as he does.
Full round action: Charge at skeleton approaching from east.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 2 - 1 - 1 ⇒ (3) + 6 + 2 - 1 - 1 = 9 (+2 from charge, -1 from power attack, -1 from buckler still equipped)
Damage: 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16

Preli Othont III |

"Quite right Kayla. Discretion's the better part and all that..."
Preli's more than happy to get moving, move action to reload, second to move 20ft along the path.

GM Shady |

As a reminder, initiative is Darian, Skeletons, { Kayla, Preli, Arkady, Thum, Adrien, OZ } but the skeletons are judged to have already moved by hoving into view. Darian and Preli take move actions. Kayla's shot hits but does no damage (DR). Thum will hold but if the general movement is to the east will probably move back to the group rather than be drawn north. Waiting on Adrien and OZ.
Kayla's shot hits the oncoming skeleton but seems to do no damage as such, the arrow simply lodging between two ribs.

OZ-M1; "Ozymandias" |

"Adrien, multiple possible thr-r-reats have appeared and engaged," Ozymandias says in a matter-of-fact tone as the discards the crushed bones of the last skeleton. "Please remain at a safe distance; I will aid the others in their elimination," he continues, rushing forward to aid Arkady and Darian. The robot swings his giant, metal fist again for the nearest skeleton after rushing to reach it.
Attack Roll: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Damage: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (4, 3) + 7 = 14

GM Shady |

The skeleton dodges OZ's charge, which therefore misses, as had Arkady's. Thum moves swiftly back to rejoin the group, and to take on the southern skeleton, again swinging his warhammer with both hands, accompanied by a loud scream.
Attack, rage: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 5 + 2 = 20
Damage: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
The skeleton takes the full brunt of another of Thum's attacks, shattering into a thousand pieces that, once again, sink swiftly into the sand.
Another skeleton can now be seen, further along to the east.
New round. Initiative is Darian, Skeletons, { Kayla, Preli, Arkady, Thum, Adrien, OZ }. Darian is up.
Roll20 updated.

GM Shady |

The skeleton to the north shambles towards the group, but not far enough to immediately engage in combat. The one to the east moves towards the first combatant it meets - OZ. It reaches out with four arms and tries to rake its claws along the side of the construct.
Attack, 4 claw attacks, +1 in all cases: 4d20 ⇒ (20, 9, 7, 11) = 47
So only the first is a hit, and this is a potential crit
Crit check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20 I wish I were throwing this well in games where I'm a player.
Damage, including Crit: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (1, 1) + 2 = 4 Ah. That's more like what I'm used to.
One of the attacks connects, scratching deeply into the eidolon's body.
4 damage to OZ.
Kayla, Preli, Arkady, Thum, Adrien & OZ are now up.
