Howdy forum goers. As per THIS THREAD, I'm opening up recruitment for Hell's Rebels.
The first two slots are reserved for Co-GMs who are playing:
- an Aasimar investigator
- an Human Warpriest of Milani
I'm looking for 3-4 more individuals based on the following:
- All Paizo classes allowed, no third-party, no 3.5
- Core races. Additionally, tengu, tiefling, aasimar and ratfolk.
- 25 point buy
- Maximum average starting gold for class
- Max hitpoints at 1st, then half+1 every level after.
- Two traits, one must be a campaign trait. I'll allow a third trait in conjunction with a drawback, but the drawback must tie into your backstory sufficiently.
Additionally, I'd like a short answer to the following questions:
- What is your character's short-term goal?
- What is your character's long-term goal?
- How would you describe your character in a nutshell?
- How would your character describe themselves (in their own words)?

Godsalm Camoys |

I submit Godsalm Aulamaxa. I will rework him.. he was originally built for a RotRL game that almost went under before I ended up taking over as GM. I will exchange my trait "Erastils Speaker" for the campaign trait "Diva in Training. If allowed, I will keep the drawback "Hedonistic" in exchange for the "Charming" trait.
As for the tie in, I am leaning towards "Staying up on Current Events." As a bard, keeping up on current events would be a major factor in being present, and his discontent at having his breakout performance at the Huntress of Heroes so rudely interrupted would spur him to even more discontent.
I can work him up completely later.. I am at work right now and don't have access to any of my materials.
- What is your character's short-term goal?
"Short term goals are for people that do not have the skill to make it big! I am one of the best singers today.. its not my fault the Opera House closed on me! However, since they did close, I will have to go back to busking in taverns and play houses. I will be recognized for my talent!"
- What is your character's long-term goal?
"Well, of course it is to receive the acclaim and accolades I am due! There is no better singer or performer than I, and I will be on the stage with women from all over the world fawning over my crooning voice. I will live in a lush manse, with servants and friends all at my beck and call."
- How would you describe your character in a nutshell?
Although he was raised in the poor quarter of Kintargo, Godsalm has an overly inflated ego.. helped not at all by the handsome looks granted by his angelic heritage and the perfect tone and tune of his voice. Brash, young, and very much a creature of comfort, he often needs a slap in the back of the head to remind him his place in life does not currently coincide with his visions of grandeur! However, I see Godsalm as not just an arrogant pisshead.. he does have a heart and a conscience.. in there somewhere. I can see him being challenged and growing through trial and tribulation into a man that desires the good life, but eventually recognizes 1) Money means little compared to being a good person, and 2) being a decent person means helping others as they helped you. It is not a one way street.
- How would your character describe themselves (in their own words)?
"I am Godsalm.. singer extraordinaire! I make my living with a silver tongue and a sharp rapier. One day, these cultureless heathens will recognize my gifts, and I will receive the accolades I am due. I cannot believe that brute Barzillai cancelled my show! I will show him the error of his ways!"

Asha Ebele |

I would like to submit Asha.
She spends a lot of time with the oppressed and the downtrodden, and as a former slave she has an aversion to despotic governments and institutions. She also has an aversion to violence and will seek to diffuse unpleasant situations through force of persuasion.
What is your character's short-term goal?
Some of her friends have grown increasingly political lately, protesting Barzillai Thrune's proclamations and the martial law. Asha agrees with some of their views, but thinks that their proposed methods are too dangerous and violent. She fears for their safety and their lives, so she follows them around trying to keep them safe or get them out of trouble. Her short-term goal is to protect her friends and help them achieve their goals in a non-violent manner.
What is your character's long-term goal?
Asha would like to work towards abolishing slavery in the Cheliax Empire and elsewhere, as well as improving the situation of the poorest and most discriminated inhabitants of Kintargo.
How would you describe your character in a nutshell?
Her main characteristics are her altruism and her commitment to non-violence. She is loyal to her friends and loves animals. For the most part she is gentle and mild, but when the topic of slavery and tyranny comes up she can become quite impassioned.
How would your character describe themselves (in their own words)?
"I would like to be your friend... if you'll let me. You don't have to be alone in your pain."
"Oh, me? I'm just someone who is trying to help."

I would like to say i am interested, i will be editing this post to include my character, the whole idea i wanted to make for him is an ex-Hellknight. Hopefully I can explain him more and is it possible for him to start out as a character who really wouldnt fit in, but through character development have him come to respect his traveling companions?

Apostolos Murandea |

Maximilian Jeyan, Magus. Backstory to be written.
What is your character's short term goals:
Maximilian is more focused on an immediate solution, and doesn't want his gambling or nice home in the Greens to come under fire as his associates have. He would like to learn why the rebellion is happening, and which side would net him the best payout.
Long Term Goal:
Maximilian is under no illusion that his gambling habits are slowly destroying the family treasury, and that his family isn't the most powerful. He wishes to secure their future (and his own) and wonders if the rebellion against Thrune might not give him that opportunity.
Character in a nutshell: Maximilian is a gambler that likes to play long odds (and loses frequently). Protective of his family, with no illusions of the world, he is ready to risk everything to ensure their future.
How Maximilian would describe himself:
"A nobleman? Few gamblers are known as noble. I'd much rather a game of cards than attend these protests, but a true gambler plays for the big wins, and knows how to improve their odds. I'm not a cheater, mind you, but there are influences one can make in the deck of life. I'm simply a man who wants to make a place in this world for his family. If others are benefited, that's their business. A winner always has hangers-on after a big score."

I would like to submit my character concept, Dalton Valtheil
He is a former Hellknight attempting to escape his past, he is very hesitant to admit what he has gone through and will attempt to vehemently guard his past, which he views as a personal weakness. He entered Kintargo in an attempt to find himself so to speak, as well as an area far away from the Order of the Nail, he is in the crowd at the protest merely out of curiousity, although attempting to remain impartial his former Chelaxian comrades as he views them are still his brothers and sisters, thus he finds himself very conflicted in an attempt to escape a life in which he feels is his only calling, yet trying to find something new to give his life purpose.
What is your character's short-term goal?
To escape, he feels he has no place with his order any longer, and although he still clings to the name Hellknight, he mainly uses this because he does not know who he is besides his training. His short term goal is to get away from those who knew him, and start over and discover who he is behind the mask.
What is your character's long-term goal? He does not have lofty ideals, but he hopes and seeks new friends and a new life. The friends he gains and chooses could lead him onto a completely new road...
How would you describe your character in a nutshell?
A boy in a man's body within a big suit of armour, who doesnt really understand whats around him, due to his upbringing.
How would your character describe themselves (in their own words)?
"Me? There is not much to know, I just wish to find my station in life. You needn't concern yourself with petty questions such as my personal history."

Aram Greyfeather |

What is your character's short-term goal?
Arams short-term goal is to cause as much trouble for the Noble houses and government of Cheliax as he can possibly manage. He was rescued by the Bellflower Network as a young man, and he aims to help further their goals.
What is your character's long-term goal?
Long-term goals? Aram doesn't expect to live past tomorrow. He takes every day as it comes and lives life to the fullest, always. His long-term goal, if he could dream to have one, would be to abolish the current rulership of Cheliax. We all have to have hobbies, right?
How would you describe your character in a nutshell?
Aram is inquisitive and usually tries to see the best in people, those who are not Chelaxian royalty that is. He has a chip on his shoulder from his time as a slave, and can be quite cold and competitive with those he views as his "captors". He is kind at heart though, and has a soft spot for animals and children, of all races and nations.
How would your character describe themselves (in their own words)?
"I'm what they do not like, a halfling with a brain. They tried to beat me down, tried to make me tame, compliant. I bear the mark still. I would still be there though, still be their... pet, if it wasn't for my friends." Aram takes a sip of wine from his goblet and smiles.
"They came for us in the dead of night, quiet and efficient. I didn't rightly know what was going on, till my Mother pushed me out the door. I can still feel the cold weight of the shackle around my wrist, from where I had been bolted to the wall. I had been a runner you see, but I was too much use to them, so they bolted me up at night, to keep me from fleeing. Well it failed. They tied me up and my friend broke me free. And I flew, right out that door. I'm a runner you see... pity my mother and sister can't say the same." a dark, cold heat burns in the halflings eyes.

Itaro Rivaldi |

Itaro Rivaldi, shield champion brawler
In another life, Itaro Rivaldi would have just been another boy from the neighborhood. His parents, and their parents, and their parents before them, all lived in the same home in Kintargo, worked in the same inn. They were popular in their neighborhood, beloved by all, until they sold a room to the wrong person one night. Itaro never found out who; all he knew is that his parents were able to arrange passage for him to his uncle in Andoran before they were taken by the Hellknights.
In Andoran, Itaro nursed a hatred of House of Thrune. He enlisted as an Eagle Knight, and was sent to act as an agent provocateur in Kintargo, helping train and prepare rebels for the eventual uprising and defeat of the damned collaborators. Because weapons are so often contraband in Chelish cities, he's armed with only a shield.
Short Term Goals
"This is where I'm from. My family has walked these streets for generations, and they're not safe anymore. I'm not here to bring down Thrune. I'm here to give the people the skills the need to do it themselves, and I think they're ready to take up the mantle."
Long Term Goals
"Power corrupts, always. The order provided by the devils is purchased with the death of freedom, and the silence of those who voice their discontent. Kintargo is the tip of the spear, and we need to spread the word beyond its limits. Thrune must be removed from power, and Asmodeus can go find a lesser country to control."
In a nutshell, Itaro is a soldier, trying to act as a spy. He's in Kintargo at the behest of Andoran, but he's Chellish by blood. He's trying to start a rebellion in order to bring about a lasting peace. He's a walking contradiction, but perhaps the man Cheliax needs.
"I'm no one special. Or I wasn't, not until the Hellknights decided I was. I would be running that inn right now, had they not punished my parents for imagined crimes. I'm just one man, but my story has been told a thousand times. Here, Westcrown, Longacre. I don't care how many devils they have on their side, eventually, the people will have their fill of oppression, and I'm here to give them the means to stop it."

Zakli Warbleflinger |

Please provide a brief backstory for the character, as well as why they are at the protest in Kintargo.
Zakli Warbleflinger is a world-class thespian and singer extraordinaire - at least in his own mind. Growing up on the streets as a gnome in a very human society, he found his niche as an entertainer. Singing on the streets and at taverns for years, he found that singing ability alone doesn't pay the rent, so he has also honed his ability to be convincing (which often requires a few little stretched truths from time to time).
Zakli had just gotten his big break - to perform in the opera! And then Barzillai Thrune came and shut the Kintargo Opera House down. Just as he was about to show the world how great he was, all shows were canceled; his destiny re-routed; his fame put on hold. Furious, he has taken to complaining at each pub he visits, to the point that other patrons actively avoid his rantings. His despair growing, he searches for answers to the meaning of his life, when suddenly, in a drunken stupor, he finds that the coaster he is using is actually a flyer for the upcoming rally to protest the usurpers. Perhaps, just perhaps, this is his chance to be heard (in more ways than one). He focuses his energies into creating a song that will move people to demand that he opera house is reopened!
As for the specific reason to be at the protest, it is a fine line between Looking for Trouble and To Protest the Government, but ultimately the latter is a better fit.
Additionally, I'd like a short answer to the following questions:
- What is your character's short-term goal?
Zakli is less interested in the politics of the city than he is on simply reinstating the opera. His primary focus is on that.
- What is your character's long-term goal?
Zakli will grow personally as he grows in power and influence. His Rakshasa bloodline will begin to manifest itself (as he adds sorcerer levels to those of a bard), and he will grow to find that opposing the Barzillai Thrune helps more than just his own personal goals, and will become a hero rather than just play one on stage.
- How would you describe your character in a nutshell?
Zakli is a charmer, but has no compunctions against lying in order to achieve his goals. In fact, his has such a silver tongue because he is often able to convince himself of his own "revised truth". While a bit of a self-centered diva at present, he will quickly find purpose in helping others, and perhaps forge a new destiny than the one he thought he wanted for so long. Mechanically, he is a face for the group, with some supporting skills and spells, but he is not much of a combatant.
- How would your character describe themselves (in their own words)?
"Little ol's me? Why, I am the greatest opera star you have never seen! Oh, how I feel for the people who have been deprived of such a treasure. They really do not deserve to be punished this way, but what can one gnome do? Still, there are songs to be written, and songs to be sung, and this one," he says, pointing at himself with both thumbs, "this one will be the one to sing them! Do not let the man keep us down! Be heard, sing proud - these are the voices Zakli Warbleslinger hears in the night! We will not go down without a fight! We will not go steady into this.... um, what? Oh... yes... one mug of your best dwarven stout, thank you."
I do still have a few tweaks and equipment, and while I don't generally plan characters out past a few basic goals, this one I have made two ways - once as a bard, and once as a sorcerer. I like the bard better just to get some more skills upfront, but then will be planning to be a sorcerer after that. Right now the plan is to focus on manipulation and illusions.

Provide a brief history and reason for protesting.
Growing up a child of the Silver City, Nimia loved the arts. She would spend hours watching artists of all breeds work their magic, but her favorite was her mother, a human painter who sought to raise her daughter in what she preached was the truest form of expressing oneself. Second to mommy-dearest was fellow half-elf Shensen, a performer and voice against House Thrune. By the time martial law was imposed, Nimia became convinced she must follow in her idol's footsteps and protest - if not fight - against oppression.
Short-term goal
Finding and talking with her idol, Shensen. Nimia hopes that interacting and learning from and about her idol will inspire her to do as much.
Long-term goal
Become a force for the arts and freedoms therein. This will include throwing off the yokes placed upon Kintargo by Thrune.
My description of Nimia
She is no conservative. Nimia believes in freedom of expression, moral righteousness, and the power of love and redemption. Her love of animals - particularly horses - combined with this has inspired her to become a "knight in shining armor" of sorts. Although she cannot yet afford steel armor, she hopes to one day become a silver knight for others like her.
Nimia's description of Nimia
"I like to think of me in a few select words: passion, righteousness, and inspiration. I am passionate for what I believe in, love, art, and the good in all common folks. I am righteous as an example I hope to lead. I only really want to be as important as any hero of the people. Thus am I inspired to be an inspiration for others to do good and believe in themselves. This city used to be that, but these yokes have taken that from us. Down with Thrune for this! They did not save Kintargo, they damned it. Now we must rise up so we can save if not ourselves then what we believe it."
A little wordy, but I think this gets Nimia's character pretty much. Best of luck to all!

Short Term; Braven is looking for any excuse to get back at the government, they drove his people from the sewers, displacing them from their home and making them feel like unwanted savages.
Long Term; Braven is hoping that by displacing the current ruler he can become ruler of this City and open its doors to Ratfolk from all over to be welcome and treated as equals.
How I would describe; Braven is a average height Ratfolk, he has a thicker more bristly coat than the average Ratfolk. He has never been standoffish or bullied by the other Ratfolk, he would mix unguents and potions for his people to help with illnesses and keeping his people safe. He discovered a lost Alchemy book floating in the sewer one day and fell in love with the though of potions and the fun items he could make with the book.
How Braven would describe himself; Braven feels that he is the last hope that Ratfolk kind have in this land. His parents were sacrificed to some infernal devil in the hopes of giving the Rats Devilish powers and the Chelish being able to use them as plague bearers in their army. He doesn't seek revenge upon anyone just wants to be in power so that he can help his people.
