"This is such a great team. When it's over, we must look for a way to return to the field again."

Marta: I missed the stunning fist. Fort save: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (8) + 20 = 28 He's good. ;-)

Vladek, I love the picture, but a 20' radius isn't square. I've overlayed with the template. Where you put it, you only hit one of the Hestrams. I'll let you re-deploy if you like before adjudicating the damage.

Kirrah: I'm guessing the "H*" means "haste", but you don't get an extra attack from Haste or BoF on a charge, only on a normal full attack action. I'm going to ignore the H* attack.

Aegis: I don't know why you rolled a crit confirm, none of your rolls were threat.

Kirrah charges the real Hestram, only to find that magically enhanced full plate is very difficult to puncture. [ooc]Only one claw attack hits.

The tiger has similar difficulty with his doppelganger, but manages to keep one huge paw on the creature. 1 Claw and 1 Bite hit; roll the grab.

Aegis lets go of his target to continue attacking, but doesn't manage to make any significant strikes. No hits, I'm afraid.

Yep.

Found the wand on Qadathra's sheet, with 8 charges. What chronicle is that from?

Qadathra sends a bolt of negative energy from his wand, and strikes Adril squarely on the chest. His face pales as he feels the life force being drawn from him.

One of the remaining doppelgangers moves away from Aegis through the ash cloud. Withdraw action. I don't recall if Aegis has 10' reach or not; if he does, he can take an AoO from the second square of movement.

With you nearby, she walks the chambers of Skyreach and determines there are no further threats. She makes contact with her allies and says she will begin plans to repair the damage Hestram caused to the society and its leadership.

Do you have anything else you wish to say or do before being escorted out of Skyreach?

Vladek looks at Shemis, then around the strange chamber. "What is this place, exactly? Why would we normally not be permitted to come here? What were you doing when we came in? What did Hestram want? Why all the secrecy?" After a moment's delay, he pulls out Andrexiel's clockwork heart. "Also, could you possibly...wind this down, or point us to someone who can? Quickly? A sapient being's fate might be at stake."

The Midnight Mirror

"You are not permitted here because this is where we, the Ten, observe our operations and make plans. Agents, even such highly skilled and valuable ones as yourself, are not privy to our meetings."

"As to what Hestram wanted, my divinations indicate he was planning to forcibly take over the Decemvirate by replacing those he killed with individuals loyal to him. I believe he expected that after wiping out half of us, the rest would agree to his arrangement."

When Vladek brings out the clockwork, she raises an eyebrow. "I understand why you had to kill the sphinx in order to get to me, but why would you desecrate it by removing its heart? I demand you return that immediately!" She is clearly quite annoyed, and holds her hand out expectantly.

Marta shakes her head, still having a tough time believing Hestram orchestrated this whole thing. But she is used to obeying the chain of command and it would take far more than a little confusion to make her ignore a superior's orders.

"I liked and even admired Hestram. I would like a chance to question him around his motives and to make sure he was not dominated by a spell or something. Would that be too much to ask?"

Hrrmm. Hestram may have been honorable once. But much explaining he has to do to redeem himself. Definitely check him for enchantments. I expect you will find none.

Are there any others to be rescued or restored in this place?

Qadathra intercedes between Shemis and Vladek, who, thinking quickly, works to ensure his familiar-imminently-to-be-turned-attorney is able to make the best of his next few moments.

Please, your...Ventursomeness, you *must* understand, Everyone in the chamber (save Adril and the surviving doppelgangers) hears Qadathra's strange, sweet telepathic voice in their heads, which continues: It is no desecration - it is preservation. We were contacted by the Sapphire Sage Amenopheus himself on our way here, who *specifically* asked that we retrieve - and wind down, just as my Witch said - the clockwork heart of Andrexiel. She was a gift from his family to the Society, did you know? Given that, as you say you understand, we had to destroy her to make it here, it would be a terrible, terrible shame for her noble spirit to go to waste, effectively just another victim of the madness of Adril Hestram. If we can but find a skilled tinker soon, this - her soul - can be preserved for later reembodiment!

"Well, it was certainly an adventure, wasn't it?" Myrdon throws his legs up on Aegis and leans back on the couch. Aegis, roosting on the floor, throws a glance up at its master then goes back to preening its feathers. Myrdon continues, disregarding the fact that the bird has no idea what he is saying. "Imagine that. Corruption within the upper echelons of the Society! Who would have imagined that?" Even when talking to himself (or to Aegis), he still speaks with sarcasm.

"Well, but looks like our task here is done, ain't it, little birdie. Time to move on." He pauses here briefly before continuing with a lower voice, a more serious voice, a voice with a catch in his throat. "Time to keep on to hunting." Perhaps for eternity, but how do I stop?

The Midnight Mirror

So the big possible reward from Eyes is earning the title "Venture Captain" and earning the right to designate a protege character. The criteria is to earn 12 campaign points over the course of the four parts. Here is the breakdown:

Chapter 1
* Impress Eliza at the Talespinning
* Impress Osprey at the Talespinning
I'll be honest, I really hate these. They are 90% dictated by your whether you happen to have invested in a skill useful in a performance, and the rest on the dice and your roleplay. Most of you impressed Eliza, but fewer impressed Osprey (he has a higher DC).

* Show compassion for Woodsedge Lodge servants injured orkilled
This is really subjective, but I saw enough from each of you that evidenced sincere interest in their well-being after the attack to give everyone this point.

* Recover and return the Pail Maiden or prevent its abduction
Well done. :)

* Broker a truce between the Society and the Red Raven
Yeah, not so much. Once the Red Raven discovered that you killed Geppa, he pretty much declared a vendetta.

* Grant the phoenix Zeliax its freedom
Done!

Chapter 2
* Choose not to engage Condria in combat in Part 2
Some groups apparently decide to attack her again, despite her not being aggressive. You were not one of them. :)

* Rescue Kyalla from Chorkak's cave
Done!

* Recover the fragments of Keel's frozen and shattered body from his estate
You talked about it, but didn't actually do it.

Chapter 3
* Rescue Kol Voss's companions from the Crimson Forum
Done!

* Capture Natalya Yagevna alive
The ice witch in the flying ship did not survive. She would have been an ally for the society if she had survived.

* Impress the goodwill of the Pathfinder Society on Princess Verrish
You never really managed to impress her, unfortuntately.

Chapter 4
* Forgo completing your faction mission, putting the Society above factional interests
Marta elected to free the spirit from the Screaming Angels, so no campaign point.
Vladek elected to take the heart from the copper sphinx to deliver to Amenopheus. Neither Fendahl nor Luisila said anything about it, so I ruled that only Vladek counted as failing this point,
Myrdon was looking for the glass eye Zarta Dralneed wanted, but didn't investigate the villains who attacked you just before the elemental trap room to discover it was in the head of the woman who survived. Since you didnt' succeed at the faction mission, you earn this campaign point.

* Deal no needless damage to the Decemvirate’s property AND steal no relics from the Sanctum
You didn't really do any collateral damage that was avoidable, but Vladek took the Black Blood from the Orvian exhibit, so he fails this point.

* Activate the osprey figurine and send it to alert Osprey to the attack
You discussed it and elected not to do it.

* Prevent Adril from slaying Shemis
No brainer here.

Result
Every one of you earned either 9 or 10 points. Sadly, that means no one earns the Venture Captain reward, but because you all got at least 8 points, you do all earn the "Favored of the Ten" reward.

=================
Prestige
The primary success condition for Chapter 4 was to defeat Adril. Easy peasy.

The Secondary Success condition was to earn three of the four campaign points from the chapter; in this case you can make up missed points by fulfilling faction objectives:

>>Liberty’s Edge / Silver Crusade (Andoran)
>>1. Release Aistor Garislog from the Pillar of Screaming Angels
>>2. Host the essence to return to Colson Madris

Marta did both of these, and earned two of the four campaign points. +1 Prestige

>>Dark Archive (Cheliax)
>>1. Recover the eye from Valicia
>>2. Recover the eye without triggering the contingency

Myrdon did not do either, and only earned two campaign points.

>>Scarab Sages / Grand Lodge (Osirion)
>>1. Recover the heartscarab from the Copper Sphinx
>>2. Successfully deactivate the heartscarab

Vladek succeeded at the first, but not the second, and he only earned one campaign point.
Fendahl and Luisila did not complete any faction goals, but did earn three campaign points. +1 Prestige each.

=================
I'm sorry nobody earned the Venture Captain reward, and a couple of you missed the second prestige, but that's actually part of what Eyes is about. You have to choose between the Society and individual or outside interests. The big reward comes from putting the Society first, but that's not always appropriate for every character. I feel you all played well and did what was right for your characters, regardless of what might have been the "correct" decision every time.

It's late, so I'll work up your chronicles for Chapter 3 and 4 tomorrow.

Hey Boss,

I appreciate the thought you put into each Campaign Point, and the detailed explanation of each one.

Yep, big 'BUT' incoming ...

I'm not worried for Luisila ... VC Luisila based on her relationship with Valsin and other VCs doesn't make much sense.

BUT I would feel bad if if one of the others missed out based on ...

Princess Verrish wasn't impressed by the goodwill of the society??

- We removed her hated snowman husband, who she never would have got rid of on her own
- Instead of stealing the relic from the arena, I suggested we do mutual respectful, in good faith negotiation
- We gave her the throne on a plate! For NOTHING in return.

Cercei or Danny would have given us Highgarden or offered their hands in marriage, or both but Verrish wasn't even impressed by our goodwill?

Just sayin'

It was only a sip...don't most office buildings have water-coolers for their employees?

By the way, what was in that trapped compartment beneath it?

The Midnight Mirror

@Luisila: There was a specific test to see if you made a point of trying to get her to interested in having a relationship with the Pathfinder Society, as opposed to simply being grateful to you as individuals. (The full text of each campaign point is more detailed than the short description I gave above.)

Vladek, the first reward is that you can actually call yourself "Venture-Captain" in game; that title also comes with a discount on the "Pathfinder Lodge" vanity that you can buy with fame (it mentions in the text of the vanity, that if you have the V-C title, you pay less to found a lodge).

The second reward is that you can designate your next unused character number (ie, one that hasn't been created yet) as a "protege", and it gets a +2 to one ability score of your choice.

Got them!

GM, thanks for this fantastic experience! Even though we didn't get Venture Captain, I remember when I first create Myrdon more 3 years ago, and for him to hit this penultimate level was something that I have envisioned then. Thanks a million!

Yes, ah...well.

Did we accomplish either of the following:

- recover a piece of the Sky Key

- recover a gem worth at least 1,700 gp?

This is almost a full decade before the Sky Key was a thing, so ... no.

And no, there were no valuable gems.

You are very welcome, and thank you for the fun ride!

Get your own PFS# and we'll talk. ;-)

I am home, and have downloaded my Chronicles.

Thank-you so much for running GM Rinaldo!

When I first started playing PFS (by PbP) I thought there was zero chance I would ever have a character go through Eyes of the Ten.

So thanks again for making that possible.

It was great that we were able to stay together as a group for the full series.

My first time we lost one person in part-1 and another in part-3. Ended with a 3+Bot party at the end. It was rough is all I remember. I would not want to start to GM this without at least 5 dedicated posters with proven track record to start. Fortunately, we had all that this time. :)

The Midnight Mirror

Marta, did you get your chronicle? I'm ready to archive the campaign.

Are you certain? Not one mention in all the loot? I have to wonder how the hell that's possible - I've been through a suspiciously high number of adventures by this point that all apparently lacked so simple a treasure....

The Midnight Mirror

This scenario wasn't about treasure. You found valuable things, but nobody you defeated was carrying large quantities of money - why would they be?

Well, considering that loot lists in these adventures often meticulously list the piles of mundane armor and weapons that enemies have on them, and the occasional lovely minor valuable art-item, and the fact that gems have historically been used precisely as a more portable substitute for large quantities of money, and that expensive gems are often used as spell components....

Also, to be clear, I was asking about all the scenarios in this arc, not just this one. That, and I was making an observation in general about how weirdly elusive that Faction Objective has been for me.

I'm not upset at you, please understand; I'm just annoyed and incredulous that it's been this hard to manage when it's all that's separating me from the next Faction Reward.

The Midnight Mirror

Remember that this was LONG before faction journal cards. More recent scenarios are more likely to have things like that called out. Anything that is essentially "money" is just going to be gold pieces in these old ones.
