The doors open easily revealing the Mirrored Hall. Several tables, covered in flowering plants and decorative figurines both large and small, occupy the corners of this brightly lit large room. A large mirror hangs on the northwestern wall, while double doors lead north and south.
Among the plants you spot movement as a small creature rushes out and at your group. This filthy creature resembles a small, wide-mouthed fat child made from leaves, vines, tree bark, dirt, and pallid tubers.
This is a Mandragora.
Poison (Ex)
Slam—injury; save Fort DC 15; frequency 1/round for 4 rounds; effect confusion and fatigue; cure no saves but “act normally” result on the confusion behavior table ends the effect.
Shriek (Su)
Once per day as a standard action, a mandragora can give voice to an unsettling shriek. All creatures within a 30-foot spread of a shrieking mandragora must make a DC 15 Will save or become nauseated for 1d4 rounds. This is a sonic, mind-affecting ability. The save DC is Constitution-based.
Vulnerable to Supernatural Darkness (Ex)
In areas of supernatural darkness (such as those created by deeper darkness, but not by darkness), a mandragora is slowed, as the slow spell.

Kleora walked into the next room and saw the fat plant child and tried to think of what it might be. She knew it was familiar to her if only she could recall.

Know (nature): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29
She realized what it was and knew this could be very bad. She spoke quietly, "Stay back from it if you can, it's a madragora. Its screams can cause you to feel sick and confused as can the poison it's body excretes. We should stay at least thirty-five feet away from it if at all possible and kill it from range or at least spread out so no one is next to anyone else." With that Kleora pulled out her crossbow and prepared to shoot when she could.
Tayanalla |
"Sounds like we just need to kill it fast!" Taya says as she leaps forward to engage the plant monster.

Freyr elects to take Kleora's advice and switches to his longbow. He draws back the string and looses a shot at the plant creature. "I don't recall this creature being here before. They've been improving."

Frjya tries to weaken the defenses of the creature but finds that it has no mind to impact with her unnerving stare.
Freyr's direct approach is more effective and he slices into the creature for minimal damage.
Having been hurt badly by Tayanalla the creature lets out a horrifying high pitched shriek that causes your stomachs to try and flip.
ALL DC15 will or nauseated for 1d4 rounds.

So is there not enough space to stay out of range of the screams? I never intended to be that close if I coudl avoid it and couldn't get intot he map last week due to my high-speed internet running out on me.

Freyr's not doing much for 3 rounds it seems
GM Red Box |
The scream is a thirty foot thing. I moved you back five feet Kleora, nice GM. You still have an action.
Kleora |
Thank you!
Kleora was glad she had stayed well back from the madragora as the scream was bad even at this distance. She didn't have a very good shot but it was the best she could managed and when she saw her opening she pulled the trigger of her crossbow and then began to reload.

Then she gives chase!
Does 40' (a move action) get me next to it?
Otherwise, I'll double move to close up with it again.
GM Red Box |
Sorry for being extra slow. My construction project is wrapping up on the 10th so things are crazy until then.
Kleora we are still in rounds, any action? The plant thing is retreating it seems.
Kleora |
Assuming I can see the creature as it seems to not show on the map just now...
A new bolt loaded Kleora lined up one last shot at the fleeing plant and pulled the trigger of her crossbow.

It is on the map but though the door so out of line of site.
After a moment the nausia faids and you are left in the empty room. You hear another door close during this time and follow up to the north. There is a room to the south of you or a teleporter pad to the next level.
Back where you first arrived there was one additional door which you did not open but know went to the kitchen.
Freyr Elvanna |
"Keep your eyes open. We don't want that thing to surprise us again." Freyr stays close by, letting the elf scout ahead a bit, but staying close enough to jump in if she needs help.
GM Red Box |
Tayanalla can clearly hear that the creature is moving inside of the room. You hear one smashing sound and then things are quiet.
GM Red Box |
Thought you might just pass it by.
Tayanalla shows her swashbuckler side and kicks the door which flies open, snapping off of one hinge with a loud crash.
Several tables, covered in flowering plants and decorative figurines both large and small, occupy the corners of this brightly lit large room. A large mirror hangs on the northwestern wall, while double doors lead north and south.
The creature that ran off is in the room and was digging though an overturned pot. It turns and shrikes again but it has none of the power it had on its previous shriek, clearly that was a one off effect. As it yells it charges straight at Tayanalla.

The creature had moved to directly in front of Tayanalla but in the end it didn't mater as Freyr's arrow does its job ending the creatures life.
Stupid on my part, I had it run so the scream could cool down forgetting that it is a 24 hour reset.
Beyond a more temperate environment there is little else of note in the room, at least little of use.
The room to the north was Hestrig's bedroom. A bed, desk, dresser, and storage chest furnish this small bedroom. A large mirror hangs on the wall opposite the room’s only door, and two windows look down on the tower’s courtyard.
There is a locked chest but you would have found the key on her body.

Retracing your steps you return to the previously unopened kitchen door.
The door opens easily onto a, suprise, kitchen. Several cabinets line the narrow walls of this oddly angular room. A chopping block, water barrel, and cauldron stand near the room’s only door. The tantalizing smells of fresh baked bread and meaty stew fill the air.
A male Spriggan stands in the room working preparing food. Without looking up Mig Epsel, the spriggan, shouts. "What!"
GM Red Box |
Unless you come into the kitchen there is not response, my guess is you do not.
The teleporter will take you down or up to the Aerie. Any preperations?
Kleora |
Kleora was quite relieved to see the mandragora die, the thing was not as big a problem as she thought it might be. As they continue their exploration and found the kitchen Kleora agreed that it smelled good but they had other things to do than raid the pantry. "I agree, let's press on."
GM Red Box |
A triangle of crossed steel wires runs between three wooden posts in this crescent-shaped room that smells strongly from the bird droppings scattered across the floor. Along the south wall, open windows look down from a dizzying height, admitting a brisk, cold wind. Two doors exit this chamber, one next to a large mirror to the west and another standing between a pair of wooden chests to the northeast.
Most of you would know that the witches of Irrisen have a strong affinity for ravens, often adopting them as familiars or using them as messengers and servants.
The slyph guard is not a total strange to the twins though she has always been removed. Being a slyph she is not immune to the cold and operates under a near continues Endure Elements spell.
The swarm of raves circles overhead as an omminious presence as seh holds her shortspear.
"You two are part of the commotion. Was it you that killed some of my birds a few days back too."
She does not immediately attack so maybe there is a chance of missing a confrontation. Maybe.
Frjya Elvanna |
"When they attack, we defend ourselves." Frjya said as she stepped forth, her staff held in a respectful and non-aggressive way. "I have come to take the Pale Tower for my own. I will not allow more death of innocent people. If you step aside, if you allow us to pass with unharmed and remain out of the way you are welcome to stay after everything is done. Or go where you wish. But after everything they did... Everything they will do... I cannot... I cannot stand by and do nothing." Frjya told the slyph woman. "Please my fight is not with you, and I don't wish to fight you, but the true question is, what do you want?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
GM Red Box |
She looks at you for a long moment considering.
"I did not expect this to be my day or I would have prayed differently. In honesty I do not know your heart but I think your heart is but Radosek has drifted a field."
She gives a deep sigh.
"Freyr, you are injured but you hurt my birds, my charges. Give me your word that you will leave me be and I will close your wounds."
