Kazimir Yemelyan |
Wow. People making unilateral decisions is becoming a pattern when I'm with RePete and John.
"That is why Pathfinders are not welcome in Irrisen," Kazimir says, eyes bulging in shock and anger. "Attacking the consul's allies, first, foolish!"
He retreats from the shop.
I assume hailing an Eagle Knight is outside the time frame of combat.
Konner Therinor |
What in the blazes....? Oh, great,,, Konner saysa, confused at the sudden turn. He grabs Thalia and darts outside the shop.
not sure what I need to roll...just wanna grab her by the collar and tug her outside...
John "the Antagonizer" Carlos |
If allowed John will attempt to interject verbally between Glenn's first attack and the following acid attack. I don't see why it wouldn't be allowed, but if not that is fine. It also might not change anything.
John watches the blight bomb connect with the lady and as his allies start moving out of the shop he throws his hands in the air and yells, "WOAH WOAH WOAH! Nobody needs to get hurt here! Please stay your attacks, further violence isn't needed and we can repair any damage and heal any injury!"
He turns to Glenn and says sternly, "GLENN STOP! I agree with your viewpoint but we DO NOT attack without PROVOCATION! That is NOT our WAY!" He pleads with the pathfinder, "Stop now and we can still resolve this without further violence."
GM RePete |
Konner, CMB would be the most appropriate I think.
Konner Grabbing Thalia: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Kazimir, in order to run to grab an eagle knight and bring it back here, would take minimum 30 min.
John, I'll allow the interjection and wait on the enemies turn to see if Glenn throws the acid or not.
All stunned by the sudden escalation of events, Konner manages to regain his function first. Grabbing the Andares heir, he drags her out the front door and into the street.
Kazimir jerks to action moments after the woman they'd been discussing was yanked from the building and sprints out the doors in search of the authority.
As Glenn tugs a flask free and takes aim, John tries desperately to regain control over the situation. Glenn - your call. Is John convincing? Do you still throw the acid?
Round 1:
Order:
Konner
Kazimir
Glenn
Guards/Koriana/Assistant (Koriana -11 or -16, Blight -1)
Thalia
Sunnendel
John
will wait Glenn's answer before I handle your opponents
Glenn Kerosin |
Glenn looks at John Carlos sort of in an exasperated way. I was just claiming the advantage, but if she agrees to let us walk out of here with Thalia, then no harm, no foul. Well other than the spores she just breathed in but they make lovely bright red mushrooms with a little care and she's an herbalist too, she'll know what to do with them. His words may express good humor, but he is still ready for action.
He holds his attack waiting for some sort of affirmation from Koriana that she will do so - anything resembling a threatening act instead and he will toss it at her as planned. so I guess make that a readied action?
Kazimir Yemelyan |
Actually, that was a question on setting. Kazimirr isn't going to run off for 30 minutes to get an Eagle Knight. I was double checking that it was not as simple as hailing down a patrolling knight. What he would do is stay there outside the shop to prevent Thalia from leaving. However, if Thalia wants to go with him...
"Thalia, Konner, that," he says, gesturing toward the blossoming brawl in the alchemist's shop, "Is something that I want no part of. Will you come with me to your father's cousin, Sander?"
John "the Antagonizer" Carlos |
John is waiting to see if they respond with an attack before continuing with any discussion.
GM RePete |
Staggering back through the door, she barks "Boy! Bring me something to heal this..." At which point the assistant quickly grabs her an elixir and hands it over. Downing the concoction, she frowns. "That...thing has not place in civilized society!" exclaims the shopkeep, pointing at Glenn. "I'm tired of playing nice. We are to a crossroads. Thalia will remain here. How that occurs is up to you."
The two guards silently move into the main room. Nodding to Koriana, they await the next response: Weapons drawn and at the ready.
Yanking free of Konner, Thalia cries out "Let go of me!" Looking around and assessing the situation upon hearing Koriana's demands, she turns to the two outside together. "Well, that took a turn...Konner, Kazimir, you have a choice to make now. I highly doubt I can fight off your entire group, but I would hope you take the high road here. I am not submitting to her demands, willingly." She proceeds to take a step around Konner, away from the shop.
CLW: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
CMB: 1d20 ⇒ 19
Round 1:
Order:
Glenn (Readied)
Guards/Koriana/Assistant (Koriana -9 Blight -1)
Thalia
Sunnendel
John
Round 2:
Konner
Kazimir
Glenn
Sunnnendel, John Up Round 1. Konner/Kazimir/Glen Up Round 2 --> What do you do?
Glenn Kerosin |
Glenn waits for just a single moment for John to do...SOMETHING.
Glenn will shoot John a REALLY annoyed look. Not only did nothing change, but short of selling out the girl to people with no scruples they were in the same spot but now with a pair of thugs in the way. ugh.
So violence then right, Thalia? Fine by me. Some of these fellow pathfinders are just slow to let reality set in.
Glenn then produces another bomb and throws it at the Guard in blue.
Blight Bomb, minor sickening, DC 14 to resist and for half on splash damage (which is 4): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 171d4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
John "the Antagonizer" Carlos |
Hearing the ultimatum expected from the shopkeep, John just smiles. "If that is the way it has to be..."
He looks at Sunnendel and Glenn, "Glenn, slow them down if possible and then get outside quickly. Sunnendel, this is very important, I need you to get out and slam the door shut. I have a way to prevent them from following and buy us all time to regroup." As he says 'have a way' he pulls out a scroll and steps through the doorway, waiting to finish his action.
Move to draw a Scroll of Hold Portal, 5 ft step out the door, Standard to Ready an Action of Casting the Scroll of Hold Portal once Sunnendel and Glenn are outside and the door is shut.
As he waits he glances at Thallia and says quickly, "we won't be turning you in to anyone, you have and always will be free to act on your own."
Glenn Kerosin |
Glenn will act as described only instead he will toss the acid flask in his hand and move as John Carlos describes.
Are you sure about this John? We've already softened them up, giving them a chance to heal up after that hella bomb I used seems unwise!
Glenn Kerosin |
The Society doesn't need more shady allies. We have enough of that with Grandmaster Torch and the shadow lodge...and the Blakros family...and just so many others. We have a chance to forge a real, lasting alliance with the Andares with Thalia. That's really in the end what we're doing here.
Kazimir Yemelyan |
"You and I have very different ideas of what shady means," Kazimir replies as he moves to keep Thalia in sight. "We become the kidnappers if we side with the girl. You're choosing her choice in marriage partner over the lives of crusaders in Mendev."
"Assuming we're not about to brawl in the streets, let us go to Sander. Thalia can present her case to the Eagle Knights, and Glenn can confess his attack on the alchemist. Then we can be done with this town."
I could be misremembering the cousin's name.
John "the Antagonizer" Carlos |
John glowers, "I think there is quite a huge difference between a culturally arranged marriage and kidnapping one's own daughter for the personal gain of covering up ones own transgressions. Not to mention the callous risk to Thallia's health by doing something like that, I would REMIND you that our mission was to rescue Thallie, find allies to assist with our interests AND deal with any corruption we discover."
He pauses, his smile returning, "Now that said... if you had merely indicated before dragging her out of here that you wished to escort her to present her case to the Eagle Knights, then I think we would all have been on the same page from the start."
Sunnendel Needlefeet |
"You got it John!" Sunnendel runs like the wind to the portal ensuring that both Glenn and John vacate the building then SLAM the door hits the jam hard and Sunnendel props himself against it.
Move then Ready action for John and Glenn and everyone else that needs to get out get out before the start of the Guards/Koriana/Assistant's actions
Kazimir Yemelyan |
”You mean before the grippli attacked an unarmed citizen while we were in the middle of discussing our options?” Kazimir asks with a roll of his eyes. ”I remind you, our mission was to assist Tercio. Finding Thalia was simply the way we thought we could do that.”
Sunnendel Needlefeet |
"Arranged marriages are awful." "It's worse than slavery" Sunnendel rubs the scars on his wrists "I side with Thalia." "An Eagle Knight is the epitome of one who is just." "We can count on Consul Sander Bryton and the Eagle Knights."
John "the Antagonizer" Carlos |
John's Triggered Action goes off, Hold Portal activated for 1 Minute on the door.
"Well sure, I don't agree with what Glenn did. It was obviously assault and his action was not acceptable. But any consequence of that should be up to our bosses and/or the actual legal system in this nation."
He continues, "but as time is pressing, shall we take this brief moment to flee towards said Consul and discuss more on the way? Or shall we stand and fight off those who are actively planning to re-kidnap Thallia? My vote is to flee and if need be defend ourselves as we do so, as I would prefer that occur in the open and away from their home base."
John has further arguments that he is willing to get into related to their mission, but he talks a lot and I don't want to make a bigger wall of text. Plus a decision does need to be made in the short term.
Glenn Kerosin |
Glenn grunts irritably Do the math Kazimir. The only way we were getting out of there withoit a fight would have been to allow an innocent woman to be kidnapped again. Plus now we dont have to forfe an alliance with Tercio. If you really think you can trust a man who would kidnap his own daughter then we're just never going to agree.
Glenn is also a bit irritated that they're giving the enemy a chance to regroup - he hates running from people he knows are going to be hostiles. But at least the girl was safe.
Kazimir Yemelyan |
Kazimir will go wherever Thalia goes/is willing to go.
"You are correct. If you do not see the temerity of your choice to make the decision for all of us and make us accomplices to your assault, we will not agree," Kazimir replies to the grippli.
"Do not conflate Glenn's attack with choosing to side with Thalia," he says to John. "There are many ways to resolve a conflict, and we had only just begun negotiations--in bad faith, apparently."
Glenn Kerosin |
What are you from Cheliax or something? That was the end of the line, the bottom of the page. It was give us the girl willingly and we'll help you. She had armed guards on the other side of the door. Do the math! The second we refused to hand her over we were getting attacked.
John "the Antagonizer" Carlos |
John takes off at a full sprint hoping to get a big enough lead on the enemies that they will not follow. He is headed with the group to go see Consul Bryton for assistance.
GM RePete |
Please forgive me for my absence over the last few days. Been worn out after work.
It would appear you all are heading straight for the Eagle Knight, if I am incorrect, please speak up. With that in mind, the foes won't be able to break the door down before you are out of range for them to keep up
Combat Over
Though concerned where your cousin's allegiance lies, Thalia agrees to go with you to see Consul Sander Bryton. You all manage to make it to the hotel harboring the man with relative ease, though the citizens toss strange looks your way as you run through the streets.
One man nudges another, "Hey! Look! Isn't that Thalia?" Before his companion can answer, you are out of earshot.
With the slightest of knocks, the door to the man's room opens. "Ah, how can I..." he begins, stopping suddenly at the sight of Thalia. "Oh! Well done pathfinders. I do hope you didn't do anything untoward. All is well then?"
John "the Antagonizer" Carlos |
John frowns, ”not quite. We have uncovered a large conspiracy. Thallia can tell what she knows and what she intends to do and we can fill in any details. Short story though, her father and other influential allies staged the kidnapping to gain public sympathy and support. We are honestly hoping there are individuals in this nation that aren’t corrupt we can turn to.”
Glenn Kerosin |
Glenn scoffs dismissiely at Kazimir. Some people here are really concerned I needlessly injured an ally of Tercio's but.... I think things will all work themselves out if you can get the proper authorities on Thallia's side. Her father's actions are high crimes after all.
Sunnendel Needlefeet |
"She was an Alchemist." "She was able to drink herself back into health." Sunnendel interjects into the conversation hopefully helping Glenn out a little.
GM RePete |
The man nods in turn as each of you speak your part, before turning to Thalia. "Sounds like an interesting day for sure. Have you anything to add?"
The woman immediately dives in to an explanation of all the events she was privy to, including the details of Glenn's actions at the shop. "But, to be fair...My actions began this whole series of events. I stumbled upon a plot of Tercio's wherein he has conspired with many powerful political families to form a new dynasty within the democratically elected seats of the government here in Taldor! I have notes detailing this back at home."
"You don't say." replies Colson Sanders, turning towards Glenn. "Though I don't particularly approve of your methods, it does seem you may have been at a crossroads. This time, I'll allow you to go free due to the circumstances surrounding this fiasco. Next time, I won't be so generous."
Turning back to Kazimir, with a slight frown, he offers "I'll see to it this young lady makes it to the proper authorities and her allegations are investigated fully. However, I don't believe she has the military backing she'd need to commit the forces she hopes."
We're pretty much done here. By having her speak with him, it allows you another diplomacy check to try and secure military aid in Mendev. You are free to roll your diplomacy John (All can try to aid him if they wish).
Sunnendel Needlefeet |
"By chance." "Might the Eagle Knights." "Provide some military assistance?"
Diplomacy Aid Another: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4
Maybe not
Kazimir Yemelyan |
"No, I doubt that she will," Kazimir replies to the Eagle Knight. "It is a shame that the innocent in Mendev and the crusaders who fight to protect them--and ultimately all of us--will suffer for it. Unless. Unless you can direct us to another potential patron before we return to Absolom."
He looks to Sanders with a hopeful gaze.
Diplomacy, Aid John: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
John "the Antagonizer" Carlos |
John smiles big as the Eagle Knight offers to assist Thallia in her pursuit of justice. He then adds to his allies plea's, "good sir, we were sent here to save Thallia and seek allies. In the process of saving this wonderful lady, we managed to stumble across a large threat to your fine free nation. However, this plot is completely wrapped around those whom we were sent to ask for aid."
He pauses momentarily then resumes, "our actions may lead to temporary unrest, but in the end your nation will be much stronger for it. We aren't begging for aid or even trying to trade favors, but we are asking that you consider our society's request for aid as something that is necessary for the safety of this great land and the entire world. No one can afford for us to lose this fight."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27+4 from aids so far
GM RePete |
"Well, that is a big investment...I don't think" he begins, pausing as John speaks up. With a nod as the man speaks, he rubs his chin.
"Well, you have a point, I suppose. The World Wound creatures certainly need to be kept at bay...Alright then. You have my pledge to send aid." he agrees.
Congratulations, you have succeeded in getting both prestige points.
For the record, the easiest way was allowing the corrupt people to keep Thalia. :-P
You got one for securing the Andares family financial backing and 1 for securing military aid. I'll get your chronicle sheets up in a day or two.
