Owing to Isilme's protective songmagic and his own dumb luck, Xanderghul is practically unaffected by the demonic stegosaur's roar, although he does turn to realize that it poses a much greater threat than any of these barbarians.

Lann reels when the wave of evil energy washes over him, sapping the strength right out of his muscles. Fortunately, between Isilme's magic and his lightweight armor, he does not feel much worse for wear. Even so, faced with demonic saurian, he decides to act on the old wisdom of discretion being the better part of valor.

"I'm only going to get in your way here. I'll help hold our rear!" the underfolk crusader says as he hastily retreats into the hallway, where he is faced with something more in his weight class - more angry barbarians. Noticing that Variska is a bit stiff, Lann moves to her defense, slashing at one of the Wintersuns with his blade.

Huffing the unpleasant scent of burning flesh out of his nostrils, Ehren regards Unafe and Marhevok's wrestling match with a look of concern. Just as he is preparing to intervene, however, the stegosaurus makes its true power known, unleashing a spell that is entirely too familiar. Thankfully, Isilme's magic shields him from the worst of its effects, reducing it to a pale imitation of the magic that was once his bane.

"Watch out for that tail," he warns his friends unnecessarily, without taking his eyes off the hideous creature. It was a shame that the first stegosaurus he has ever seen in person is so maliciously twisted. Unfortunately, for an animal so far removed from the Green, there is only thing they can do. "And those teeth, while you're at it."

Disregarding the rest of the Wintersun warriors for a moment, Ehren draws on the ley again, steeping himself in its power as he weaves another spell. He at first evokes the element of fire again, but as he kneads the ley's power into the spell, he alters its fundamental nature, changing it into something much colder - he did not want to burn down the Demetae's clanhold, after all. As he completes the spell, a geyser of bone-chillingly cold water suddenly erupts beneath the stegosaurus and shoots into the air, coating the surrounding area in a layer of white frost. Water droplets sparkle as they rain down, freezing into snowflakes before hitting the ground.

Ehren casts flame strike with place magic.

Hinagiku fights the saurian’s corrupted aura as it releases it in one massive wave that quickly begins to disturb her inner pool. Despite her best efforts, she is unable to contain the ripples. Yet, just as they form into waves, the hum of Isilme’s spell resounds in her mind as a mantra, and the waters settle.

With a quick glance Hinagiku notes the corridor to be in capable hands. Turning her attention to her immediate surroundings, she quickly moves toward Marhevok and, in one smooth yet impossible move, she slides one leg between Unafe and him, locking his foot in place, grabs his shoulder and gently pulls back. The motion is smooth and in synch with the Demetae’s own motion, allow her to keep her grasp while Marhevok slowly loses balance. With a single motion Hinagiku frees her leg and, calling upon the power of the ley once more, she twirls around Unafe, as if momentarily dancing with her. The monk finally find herself back in between the saurian and Unage, ready to defend her ally.

Smiting stegosaurus: +4 AC.

Swift action to spend 2 kis to smite the stegosaurus. Standard action to use ring of serene contortions to cast true strike. Move action to activate fleet charge, use it to trip Marhevok and then move through Unafe’s space to provide her cover from the stegosaurus. Hinagiku will keep 3 AoO to defend Unafe against stegosaurus (unless it charges Ehren). Hinagiku will use absorb flow if hit by stegosaurus unless it is a crit, in which case she uses her ability to cancel crits.

All these actions a based on the idea that as long as Hinagiku is next to Unafe, she can defend her. If she instead needs to also threaten the dino, she will spend her move action to draw threads of faith (dropping the instrument) and the swift action to fleet charge and drop the smite.

Ary Rallies (all allies within range) and uses acrobatics (poorly) to join the others on the front line. She uses a standard action to cast Bless Weapon from Knight-Inheritor's Ring on Hinagiku (Her attacks count as good-aligned and her critical threats automatically confirm against evil creatures) for 5 minutes. As long as she has an immediate action, she will intruder's end to cover the singer's movements in the event she does attempt to flee Marhevok.

Seeing that neither the casters nor Variska had fallen in towards their allies, Ary purses her lips, and scans the battlefield. As Marhevok calls out his blasphemy, it sets her ears - and soul - to ringing, just in time for Isilme to utterly negate the effect. "Thanks, Isilme!" she calls upwards. Watching the warriors go completely unaffected by the spell makes her heart grow heavy... though seeing the songstress affected by it gives her pause.

"Don't kill the songstress!" Ary calls to her allies as she weighs her options, "I have faith in you handling this end of the battlefield." she says, nodding to those in the doorway, before turning away from the nearest warrior and simply walking away her cloak acting to disguise her movements - showing contempt to the rest.

"Focus on the spike-covered abomination or the giant lizard, not both." she says as she arrives. "Bring one down or they'll both bring us down. Stay close." Her attention then turns to the musician, she wasn't certain about the woman being good, but the fact that she wasn't evil meant that she may well be a bystander here. "Os byddwch yn ffoi tuag at fy nghynghreiriaid, byddaf yn sicrhau eich diogelwch gan Marhevok."

While the other warrior beside of him struggles against nonexistant bonds, Lann cuts down one of the Wintersun clansmen in the doorway, rather than risk one break free of Xanderghul's spell in time to cut Variska down whilst she was still frozen in place.

Meanwhile, at the front of the longhouse, Marhevok gives up struggling against Unafe after Hinagiku knocks his legs out from under him, leaving him suspended up in the air by the saurian grappler. He goes on the offensive and attempts to force his elbow into her gut over and over, while aiming his triceratops horns at her shoulder, but the Demetae warrior keeps the upper hand. At the same time Ary maneuvers her way up onto the raised dais, looking for the best spot to intervene between the two, her very presence making it more difficult for the demonic man to find his strength.

Ehren frowns, having anticipated the demonic's saurian's resistance to the elements, if not its impressive reflexes. Evidently, this is not the kind of enemy he can hope to take down with brute force. Seeing that Hinagiku has closed in for an assault, the druid gestures with his hand, evoking a globe of searing radiance that engulfs the stegosaurus's head. Incidentally, the light reaches the remaining Wintersun warrior as well. When all is said and done, perhaps Ehren would attend to those who had not been reduced to ash. Perhaps.

Ehren casts burst of radiance, hitting the Stegosaurus and Wintersun #3. Reflex DC 18 to reduce the blinding effect to dazzling.

As the stegosaurus retracts its neck from its failed attack at Unafe, Hinagiku follows. Quickly positioning herself by its left shoulder, the monk strikes it twice with quick jabs before striking its throat with her knee. Finally, inspired by Isilme’s spell, she spins around, and unfolds her already raised leg to land a blow right below the saurian eye.

Ary briefly contemplates rushing over to finish bringing down Marhevok... but thinks better of it, considering the threat that the stegosaurus presented to her allies. Leaving Hinagiku's side could result in casualties, which was untenable.

She shifts between Hinagiku and the nearest warrior, ready to intercept blows from the dinosaur and slams Faith towards the nearest warrior, hoping to buy her allies some distance - and prevent Marhevok from receiving timely aid. The shield shimmers gold just before the point where it would connect...

"Valais is right, that roar was practically a giveaway in itself." she says, wincing slightly, as she realizes the true depth of the taint upon this saurian only after Valais's prompting. "It will have other magic, but I would be most worried about the pummeling, just now."

WotR Global Buffs/Debuffs: ----

Once again, the stegosaurus is too intelligent for Ehren - it turns its head to stare at him as he begins to incant his spell, then quickly moves out of the way of the worst of the blast of hallowed light. A few paces away from it, the musician's arms fall to her side as she mumbles softly to herself in Hallit, losing interest in attacking the demonic saurian. She stares blankly while Hinagiku starts her onslaught in earnest - after an initial misstep, she regains her composure and strikes the stegosaur again and again. Ary maneuevers herself closer, to watch Hinagiku's back, then slams one of the last of Marhevok's minions left in the room headlong into a pillar carved into the shape of a noble Demetae warrior.

Behind them, Marhevok screams out in fury and rage, twisting wildly until his feet hit the ground and then lowering his triceratops horns so that he digs them into Unafe's chest. Her armor protects her from the worst of it, but one of his three horns manages to cut a deep, painful cut down her neck. He wrests himself away from her on his own two feet.

Meanwhile, Variska and Lann face off the Wintersun horde in the hallway behind them. "Yeah," Variska grunts back to Lann.

She waits for the perfect opportunity to dart down and grab her bastard sword from the floor while the opponent before her is distracted by Lann. She brings it up and across the woman in front of her, slicing across her abdomen and disemboweling her in one cruel strike. She falls to her knees. "Nāc un paņem mani jūs, sasodītie barbari," Variska snarls.

Behind of her, the stegosaurus' tail slams down into the floor over and over, as Hinagiku deftly slips and dodges out of its way. Xander moves away from his martial allies, trusting that they have the hallway full of barbarian warriors well-in-hand. The terrain was in their favor, and only two Wintersuns were able to attack them anyway, which was a game-changer. So he moves forward, floating over the charred bodies left by Ehren to land beside Ary. Once there, he weaves shadow magic together, his hands leaving behind a shadowy afterimage as he speaks ancient Thassilonian words for ally, protector, and distraction.

Beyond the demonic stegosaurus appears a cheetah, glimmering with celestial energy. What isn't clear at first glance is that the cheetah is only skin-deep, and its photorealistic appearance hides an inside of shadow and smoke. With a fierce yowl, it launches itself ineffectually at the strong hide of the stegosaurus.

Meanwhile, Xanderghul crows at his allies, "It looks like Two-Fists bit off a bit more than he could chew, my friends!" He turns his head towards the moronic leader. Tauntingly, he quips "Fe ddewisoch chi'r gwrthwynebwyr anghywir."

Ary winces as she causes her foe to careen into the ancient statue, but has little more time to spend worrying over something that could likely be repaired. Her allies might not be.

Ary glances between the one-fisted 'pretender' and the stegosaurus, recognizing that while both of her allies had things well in hand, her focus should be on bringing down the target her allies were finding their spells failing against. As she steps forward beside Hinagiku, her posture rises and her armor and weapons take on a silver-gold sheen.

Pushed onwards by Isilme's spell, Ary immediately begins to hack at the great beast, slamming bodily against it, focused further by her allies' magics. Fighting giant man-eating lizards seemed to be becoming a thing.

Hinagiku stuns the stegosaurus with a series of blows to the neck, allowing Ary to maneuever around it and drive her golden blade deep into its side. Meanwhile, while another warrior in the hallway pulls out a bow to aim it against Lann, the Underfolk crusader engages in a furious battle with the kellid woman in front of him. He chances a glance back into the greater hall, silently hoping that his allies would finish off their leader soon, so that perhaps they could avoid further bloodshed.

As the huge saurian comes toppling down, Ehren looks back to Unafe, recognizing that she clearly has the upper hand in her brawl with Marhevok. Nodding to himself, he turns and steps out into the hallway. This travesty was far from an official duel between the two, but if Unafe defeats the Wintersun clan-liege with her own hands, it would lend legitimacy to any claim of leadership she makes after the fact. If she wants it, that is.

His anger having cooled somewhat after wasting his most destructive spells on the stegosaurus, Ehren decides that it is best to avoid massacring the rest of the Wintersuns. Looking to the band of warriors being held off by Lann and Variska, the druid gestures with his hand, conjuring the power of elemental water. From out of nowhere, a roaring current of water rushes into the hallway - threatening to sweep up any Wintersuns in its way - and crashes in on itself, forming a large, roiling globe of water.

Once it is created, Ehren opts to simply leave it in place, a deterrent to the warriors attempting to interfere.

Meanwhile, Marhevok lashes out at Unafe with his one good fist, his legs, and his three saurian horns, but finds that Unafe is blessed with Isilme's Desnan magic, and she always moves just a tad bit too fast for him to keep up.

Round 5!

Isilme is up!

WRONG ALIAS

The familiar roar of water from the entrance is all Isilme needs to hear to know Ehren had summoned an orb to block the the entrance. With the entryway sealed, only a sole warrior remains in the room apart from the rampaging abyssal saurian and the pretender to the Demetae throne.

With a quick step forward, Isilme lunges at the warrior, lashing out with her ornate rapier to allow the others to focus on the two more pressing threats.

Valais steps up behind Unafe. Calling the holy fire into her hands once again, she reaches forward and tries to soothe the least of the Sarkorian warrior-woman's wounds. She would try to heal the nearest Wintersun, but Heaven's magic only helped those who lead paths of righteousness.

Unafe laughs, as she can see the Pretender's end is truly near. As she does, she hesitates for a moment. Does this collaborator deserve to live? Pssssh. The Archdruid and the Elders will decide. She shoves Marhevok up against the wall. "Hyn."

She wrestles his good arm behind his back, and slams his face into the wall. "Diwedd."

Finally (if he's still conscious) Unafe puts all of her focus into one more punch to the face. "NAWR!"

Unafe's final punch knocks the warchief out cold. He slumps in Unafe's grasps, shrinking down as his features return to that of a normal human. At the same time, the final two Wintersuns not caught up Ehren's spell go running out of the longhouse.

"Hey! The rest of them took off!" calls out Variska to the others.

A few moments later the musician snaps out of Isilme's spell. She takes a step back, eyes wide, glancing between Unafe and Marhevok in shock. She runs to his side, tugs on his shoulder and cries out, "Please, I beg of you, do not kill him!"

Combat ends!

Unafe gives out a long sigh as the Wintersun Pretender collapses. She finally looks around and takes in the carnage around her. "It is sad to see that some of these warriors took their journey to the Ancestors in service of such a fool. And that mockery of a stegasaur..." She shakes her head, momentarily unable to continue.

When the musician returns to her senses, Unafe looks her in the eyes. "Fe glywsoch chi Marhevok yn galw am gael ein lladd. Serch hynny, dewisais ei sbario - o leiaf nes bod yr Archesgob, a henuriaid eraill, yn gallu penderfynu ei dynged.

Now, you've heard that I am Unafe, Two-Hearted Champion of the Demetae. Show me that you know more of hospitality for one's sisters than this oaf does. Who are you? Tell me of yourself and what is going on here."

Xanderghul snorts before saying, "The Archdruid is hardly the elder here."

He gestures out of the door of the longhouse, through Ehren's surging ball of water. "Someone's going to need to explain to all of those people about what just happened in here. Otherwise, they'll get their warriors running out there saying a bunch of outsiders just came in and assassinated their Clan-Liege."

After gracefully stepping away from the stegosaurus as it falls to Ary's strike, Hinagiku surveys the surroundings with as single quick glance. Noting the battle to be over, she lets go of her fighting stance to adopt a more relaxed form, and walks to the room's corner where she invokes the Master of masters' power to heal any of the Wintersun's whom might still live; however corrupted they were, they could change.

"Mrs. Unafe would be the best one to make the announcement, with clan-liege Marhevok." she replies to Xanderghul. "And I agree with Mr. Xanderghul, it would be unwise to wait too long before making the truth about this fight known." she then says to the others.

Ehren allows the orb to persist long enough for those trapped within to lose consciousness before dismissing the spell, dumping them onto the ground with a large surge of water. With the clanhold clear of adversaries for the time being, he steps back into the larger chamber, raising a brow when the musician pleads for Marhevok's life. It seems that there is more going on here than he initially suspected.

"Fear not, venerable one. I do not suspect she was referring to you," Ehren remarks with a wry grin, though his expression quickly hardens again. "We should not wait long, but I believe we will have time enough to learn the truth of the matter, at least."

The druid moves closer to Unafe, awaiting the musician's answers to her questions.

Ary huffs as the dinosaur slumps to the ground. As the other foes flee, fall, or... curiously begin to beg for the life of the man who called for his allies to kill them, Ary keeps her attention on the saurian. She flips Radiance in her hand, and jams it directly into the creature's throat, ending its cries. Her stance widens once more and the sheen on her weapons and armor falters. She turns to look at the others speaking, but makes no motion towards approaching Marhevok, instead twisting the ring on her finger and intoning "I will shine in her legion." After a few brief moments, her clothing and weaponry shine as if new and she sheaths Radiance, heading out into the hallway as soon as Ehren's spell is dismissed and heads for the sleeping room... where she had seen her soldier's Crusader Crosses.

Xanderghul checks that Valais is writing down everything that just happened for posterity, and then he casts invisibility, choosing to head to the entrance and peer out. He wants to get an eye and an ear on what is happening outside, just in case the group needs to get kicked into gear. Beyond that, Xanderghul himself is the best person to stand at the door and nonlethally keep a bunch of commonfolk from getting in and attacking them.

Before he goes, his voice comes from nowhere, saying, "I'm going to keep an eye on events outside. Deal with this girl and Marhevok, and then come join me?"

"I agree Hinagiku, Unafe should make the announcement. We should move quickly outside to address that," she contributes to the discussion. "As for you," she says, looking at the musician who had spent the fight confused by her bardic magic, "We will not kill him here, the fight is over. If you care for him, you should tell us all you know of how he came to possess such powers and what I can only assume was a half-fiend saurian."

The musician glares back at Unafe, not flinching from her intense saurian gaze. "Caitlyn Grunhuld ydw i. Y dyn hwn yw fy ngŵr i fod."

Her expression softens as she slumps to the ground, cradling Marhevok's head in her lap. "Nid oedd bob amser fel hyn. Fe wnaeth ... newid. A gwaethygodd a gwaeth, po fwyaf y gwnaethom bwyso arno yn y tir gwallgof hwn."

Hallit:

"I am Caitlyn Grunhuld. This man is my husband-to-be."

"He wasn't always like this. He... changed. And it just got worse and worse, the more we pressed on in this accursed land."

Unafe:

'Grunhuld' was the name of an initiate shaman that Unafe knew. He was very young, only five years or so. Children who showed the right talents (the ability to commune with spirits) were often quickly identified amongst the Demetae, and brought to train under shamans like Old Aye. Grunhuld was just one child of a group of two dozen apprentice shamans.

Demetae surnames are always the names of the Clan-Liege who served at the time of their birth.

Unafe, as Two-Hearted, has no surname (she reports to no Clan-Liege).

Caitlyn then turns to Isilme, speaking in Taldane. Her Common is accented similarly to Variska's, though not as harsh. "I guess it would depend what you mean by that. Everyone back home knows the Wintersuns are a bit... different. Some of them have tails, or horns, or too much hair, or scales... My parents told me to stay away from him, but I knew Marhevok, he's not a bad man. Truly."

She shakes her head. "That elven woman in the green dress. She came to the village asking so many questions. About our ancestors. She told us these amazing stories... about how they lived side-by-side with the saurians. How they lived in a city made of glimmering mithral. ...And that the Crusades were coming to settle our ancestral lands... and how if we weren't careful, our birthright would be next."

She rolls her eyes. "It was stupid. This place is a ruin, infested with monsters. Some birthright."

Xanderghul:

Xanderghul silently moves across the hall, past the corridor (tiptoeing past the drenched, unconscious Wintersuns) and back out through the front door. He finds the Wintersuns have mostly abandoned their chores at this point, and are gathered in various groups, loudly arguing with one another in Hallit. From what he can gather, they cannot agree on what to do. Some of the tribesmen feel they need to flee East, back home, while others want to the flee West, towards Gundrun.

A name catches Xanderghul's attention - Scorizscar. The tribesmen bring up that name, exclaiming that Scorizscar will come for all of them, if Marhevok is not here to protect them.

Xander heads out among the people, keeping on the edges of the groups but taking note of who supported which positions. He also tries to find the Wintersun warriors from inside and check up on what they were doing and saying. His goal is to find whoever the remaining "ringleaders" were, the people that were likely to speak for the others. He also listens carefully for more talk of Scorizscar, hoping to learn more.
