First Step

If I didn't mention it before, Friday night is my around-the-table game night, so I probably won't be posting/reacting as frequently.

I hope everything is going well for everyone here. This one has a lot slower posting rate than my own FSII so I hope things are remaining interesting!

I am enjoying, just incredibly busy this week but try to get 1-2 in a day anyway.

I'm happy, I haven't posted anything as I don't feel that anything has happened since my last post that Xeno needs to react to. When the people at the back finish looking at the bodies and ready to move on she'll open the door and move on but I don't want to rush people by doing so yet.

Hi all,

The scenario, as strictly written, makes it almost impossible, IMO, to get the BBEG before he slinks back down the well, thus also making it almost impossible to complete the mission as intended - or even to know that you have missed your opportunity as he is far away, in the shadows, near the well, etc. So, if there are no complaints, I think I will (reasonably, I think) have the BBEG take more of a role in this combat.

In ours, the GM had him take part a bit before fleeing, and then the GM threw us a bone by allowing us to recover an important clue anyway. (In this one, you already know that the "Fire Speaker" has the jade katana because you got further in the negotiations than we did.)

So, in sum, more danger but a more satisfying adventure, IMO.

~~ Matt

PS - I also don't want you to think I am the evil GM trying to mess you up.

More danger, more satisfying? Count me in.

As a small point, I have been having having the kobolds' spears do 1d4-1 instead of 1d6-1... I was thinking of shortspears instead of spears. Well, not that it would have made a ton of difference.

Just a head's up: I'm going to be busy preparing for my son's second birthday on Sunday, so if there is a decrease in my responsiveness (esp. Fri-Sat-Sun) that is why.

Good timing, just before birthday weekend. :) Thanks for running a great game, and pulling us out of the fire with Derek's disappearance. This was my first PBP -and- PFS game and have had a blast.

Yes thank you very much.

OK, looking at what information is asked for on the Chronicle, here would be a good place to:
- make rolls to learn new spells;
- pay costs to get them into spellbooks;
- record what you have used and what new stuff you are buying; and
- make day job checks.

You also might want to consider buying things with your two prestige points: it can be on any one thing 750 gp or less. I would suggest a Wand of Cure Light Wounds. It seems to be the first choice of healers (and many non-healers, too - it is good to make sure your party has one!).

Herman: I'll need your PFS number.

Menas: I'll need your PFS number and a faction to assign the PP to. (You don't have to actually make the choice till you advance to second level, but I think it is going to ask me this anyway.)

Menas and Xeno: Were going to have to figure out how to turn your "Alias"-type characters into "Pathfinder Society characters" for you to get proper credit. I've asked if there is a good way here on website feedback and here on Pathfinder Society® General Discussion, but I'm afraid the first is in an area likely to be ignored and the second just got flagged as being in the wrong place. *Sigh*

If I don't get a better method as a response I'll we just figure it out and do it the hard way.

Thanks Zoog! Nice symmetry with our God's Market game wrapping up today too. Wish your little guy a Happy Birthday for me too!

Sorry if there was any confusion, Storn, but I'm Derek. Dustin disappeared. He was also a player in a game I was GMing, but I've heard nothing from him.

Now I need to decide if I should dip into rogue now, or wait until 3rd level... I've got 2 other credits to apply to this character.

Cold Iron Spiked Gauntlet: 5gp + 5gp

Weapon cord: 1 sp
(x2)Scrolls of Cure Light Wounds: 25 gp each = 50 gp
Alchemic Silver Heavy Mace: 12gp + 90 gp =102 gp
Remaining: 11.9 gp

I would like to spend the 2 prestige points to gain membership in a Hunting Lodge (PFS Field Guide pg 61), which would allow Amaruu to roll survival for his day job.

If he can roll for this adventure: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

I really appreciate you taking over, you really pulled it together! Good timing finishing up and have fun with your little one.

I forgot something: So that I can get your Chronicle sheet to you, I'll also need an email for each person, which you can PM me so that it remains private. If that isn't doable, I could also upload sheets to Dropbox and then you could download them from there.

~~

I was also thinking that the discussion could serve as a chat space, like after a traditional game ends, where you could talk to each other, ask me why the heck such and such happened, or whatever.

As for myself, I am tentatively interested in GMing again after my current games come to an end (perhaps, part I, "In Search of Lore", and perhaps also "The Frostfur Captives"), although I might wait to see how much time I am going to have after schedules change in the next month or two.

And thanks, Derek!

Apologize sincerly for my noobness, but I can use the gold gained here to buy any of the items from the scenario, or from the equipment lists in PRD? I can also sell my existing stuff? At what % of purchase price?

I will be looking at the PFS guide again to refresh, but just curious if that's correct.

Crap I made an error in registering it as an alias, but if I'm going to make it as a pfs legal it would be,

# 75680-10

Yeah, same with Xeno's character. I was trying to find if there was an easier way of fixing it or not, but forums and forum people often aren't very helpful. Unfortunately, the PFS character you make will probably have to have a slightly different name - perhaps just Menas. I wonder if Xeno the Black Widow (caps on 'b' and 'w') would work?

I think you and Xeno will just have to make up PFS characters, name them similarly, and then copy and paste all of their info, playing the PFS character from then on in PFS games. Sorry about that! I wish Dustin had caught that at the beginning of the game.

Herman's Roll for Day Job revolves around singing as a minstrel bard in several inn and taverns. He even writes a new story about a missing jade sword and a heroic quest to retrieve it.

Day Job perform sing: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19

Thanks, made a new alias but haven't copied information in yet.

Day job profession sailor: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21

and using the prestige to get a wand of CLW how do I record that?

Hi Xeno,

There is a box on the right column of the Chronicle sheet, under "Fame", and "Prestige Gained", for "Prestige Spent." So, you gained two and spent two, leaving zero left (after your first adventure). Fame stays at 2 since it doesn't get "spent" with prestige.

The day job roll of 21, from the table on page 21 of the Guide, would get you an extra 20 gp, and there is a box for "Day Job". I witnessed it here, so I thought perhaps "MC - online" would probably suffice.

There is also something I didn't know about earlier, the "Character and Inventory Sheet" which is meant to keep track of what you buy and sell on what Chronicle sheet.

~~ Matt

Also, everyone should have received a PM from me with a link to their Chronicle sheet. Let me know if something needs to be corrected or updated.

I've been remiss in not thanking you all as players! I really enjoyed reading the story before I took over so I knew it was a good group of role players, and thanks for giving me the opportunity to GM it.

PS - More paperwork for you to consider... There is a new thing in the new version of the Guide called the "Inventory Track [or Tracking] Sheet", where you are supposed to record when you purchased and sold/expended each item. (I've heard it is for items over about 25 gp, but I haven't found where that figure is mentioned.) Besides at the end of that document, you can find a zip document with 'regular' and form-fillable PDF versions of the ITS at this link.

Hi All,

I'm still trying to think about whether I am going to be able to run another campaign with this group soon. I have "First Steps I: In Search of Lore" prepped, but I'm not sure if I could do two groups (this and another) right now. Since I'll probably have a better idea of how things will be in 4 to 6 weeks, I am wondering if someone else would be able to run a campaign in the meantime. Would one of you be able to run one or know of someone who might? (I'll also post on the games where I know of some PbP GMs.)

Thanks, Matt

(I'll wait a week until I get back from vacation to make this game 'inactive', and you can always PM me.)

No day job rolls for Storn. He'll be spending his prestige on a wand of Cure Light Wounds and otherwise keep his equipment and cash as is.
