Good afternoon, agents! Welcome to the discussion thread for Tide of Morning. As mentioned in recruitment, this game is intended to help teach the ropes somewhat for those who are beginners to PBP. While there's no hard and fast standard that every PBP GM adheres to, so I can't claim that everyone will do things 'my way,' these are some of the practices I adhere to for GMing PBP:
1) Please make sure your character sheet is up to date and visible on your profile, and that it is formatted something like this. It doesn't have to be exactly identical to that, but that's the format that Paizo more or less publishes their stat blocks in, and it's therefore the format that I and most PBP GMs are most familiar with. If you're using a format like that, it means I instantly know where to find all the information I need, instead of having to hunt through an unconventionally-formatted sheet looking for a save, or your base statistics, or your languages, or to figure out if you're some strange archetype that changes how a class normally operates, or something like that.
2) Similarly, please make sure your tagline is up-to-date for your character. If you don't know what I mean by 'tagline', it's a super-short summary of the basic statistics for your character. On your profile, put the following information into the 'Race' line for your character:
*RACE* *CLASS* *LEVEL* | AC X-T X-FF X | HP X/X | F+X R+X W+X | Init +X Per +X
Example: Gnome Paladin 5 | AC24-T16-FF19 | HP 46/46 | F+11 R+9 W+10 (special modifiers apply) | Init +3 Per +1
3) I ask that you post once a day during the week (I slow down over the weekends and generally expect my players may do the same). I reserve the right to put your character on delay or narrate their actions if we're waiting on you. If you know you're going to be busy for a few days, please just let me know in the OOC!
4) If you have something unusual or complicated about your character that I should keep in mind, please tell me now. This is a low-level game so I don't expect too many shenanigans, but, hey, I've been surprised before.
5) The strength of PBP is the ability to really get into the narrative and explore your character's personality, inner thoughts, dialogue, etc. I don't expect every post to be a novel, but please post more than just (DICE ROLL) (DICE ROLL) in your posts. Posts should be in third person, and general formatting standards for PBP often include bolding spoken dialogue, italicized dialogue for thoughts, and making sure you put anything out of character in OOC script.
Thargaz winced as his fellow agent got brutally attacked. "Hang on, Arista! I can help!" he shouted. As he raced forward with his holy symbol raised high, he said an internal prayer to his god. Abadar, don't let me be too late!
GM, can I reach Arista from my location?
6) Not every GM will ask this of you, but in combat I prefer that you break down your bonuses for me (at least for the first round of combat). This helps both you and me make sure we're keeping in mind any bonuses or penalties you're currently subject to. At low level, there hopefully won't be too many convolutions, but at high level, when five or six different bonuses may be in play, this is a lifesaver.
Chucky swings his sword! 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13 damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Chucky swings his sword!
Attack, bless, bardic performance: 1d20 + 3 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 3 + 1 + 1 = 12
Damage, bardic: 1d8 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 1 = 7
If you find that your attacks look really cluttered and clunky, feel free to stick them behind a spoiler (I do this on some of my high level characters that have five attacks a round or the like), but just show me your math, so to speak. It helps us both out!
I think that's it for my rules and expectations. I will roll initative when combats happen, so please make sure your initiatives are up to date. I will post maps and anything else like handouts via Google Drawings; the responsibility is on you as players to move your tokens in combat situations/etc. If you can't move your token, I am happy to move it for you, but let me know you need that!
At this point, if everyone can post the following information for me here:
Player name
Character name
PFS #
Faction
and a day job roll, if applicable.
I'm looking forward to the game, and we'll get officially started tomorrow! You can 'dot' the gameplay thread now if you like (if you don't know what dotting means, it just means posting something, anything, to the gameplay thread (often a 'dot'), so that the campaign registers in your active campaigns).
Any questions, go! This table is likely to be a low tier 1-2, as we have multiple level 1 characters signed up and no 4s or 5s.

Hiyami-- yes, you are the person who is in this game, my apologies for the typo in your name!
And yes, day jobs are usually a craft, perform, or profession skill, though potentially in PFS you can 'unlock' other skills (I have a cleric who uses Heal, for instance, but by default it is not one of the normally usable skills for a day job).
That's five of us checked in. I'll get us started with a post tonight at some point.

hiyami |

Ooooh, so does that mean I could have Kaya pickpocket with sleight of hand as a job?
Also, no worries! I'm just glad I actually, you know, asked. >^< Thanks for having me :D
Edit: Just did a bit more research regarding day jobs and I'm thinking it'd be in the gray area if I did one of those rolls since I don't have the Field Guide or the Society Primer, so I guess I'll pass on it until I can get a pdf or something of 'em. :) Thanks for the heads up, though - gives me more things to RP out with Kaya.

If you are willing to spend some prestige points (PP) to make it happen, then, yes, you can ultimately use sleight of hand for your day job. (If you check out the Pathfinder Society Field Guide, it covers the purchases of 'vanities', which include such things as noble titles, or being able to use various skills other than the 'normal' ones for day job checks. One of those includes spending prestige in order to join a thieves' guild, at which point you can use Sleight of Hand for your day job checks.)
I'd recommend holding off a few levels on that, though of course if the fun RP draw of that is sufficient to lure you on, go for it. As it is, at low levels you may want to spend your prestige points on things such as Cure Light Wounds wands (every newbie PFS agent's most useful purchase!), or banking them towards an emergency resurrection, etc.
You're welcome!

hiyami |

Oooooh, okay, I actually don't know how the prestige points work! I was informed that I just tell a GM and have 'em log it for me? I've been told that I really, really want one of those wands (so, being a beginner, I naturally really, really do). Am I allowed to do that prior to a game? o: Or is that only at the end?

GM Dien |

Ah, in that case you will at some point want/need to read the Pathfinder Guild Guide (unlike the previous book I linked, this one is free to download). This lays out the specific rules that govern Society play (as opposed to just general Pathfinder ruleset), and explains Prestige in depth.
The Cliff's Notes version, however, is this:
'Prestige' is a sort of meta-currency that your Pathfinder agent acquires, like favors owed or your reputation within your faction, as you successfully complete mission objectives, especially those your faction finds personally important. You usually get two prestige per mission, if you succeed at the objectives. For every point of prestige you earn, you also earn 'fame', with the primary difference between the two being that prestige points can be spent (thus your total current prestige/PP can decrease), while fame doesn't decrease-- once you earned that fame, you remain that famous, even if you spend prestige. Fame governs the total cap price of items you can buy in PFS, whether or not you have enough gold to actually purchase them. That's all laid out in a more in-depth fashion in the Guide.
As for what that means for you right now: you should, in fact, track your prestige earned for your character, just as you track their XP, their gold, etc. GMs are technically supposed to log those on Paizo when we log games, yes, but unfortunately not every GM remembers to log or doesn't log accurately. Your prestige received from each scenario will be noted on your Chronicle Sheets (sort of a receipt for having played the game), so as long as you keep your Chronicles (which you should) then you'll have a tracker of everything you've gained in Society play with a given character.
If you've previously played a scenario, you may already have 2 PP to your name. If you do, then congrats, you can purchase a wand of cure light wounds. (2PP can always be spent to buy any item of 750 gold or less, which a wand count as.) You can buy these at the start or end of scenarios, yes, or even in the middle of a scenario if you're somewhere where you could reasonably buy an item.
In this case I'll mark on your chronicle sheet for Tide of Morning that you purchased it (if you do in fact have the full 2 PP necessary to purchase the wand), which can be done at the start of the session.

Player name: brunoreturns
Character name: Reidog Blessedstone
PFS #: 227345-1
Faction: Grand Lodge
Day Job: None
Thanks for including me and letting me know that I missed the thread coming up.
I will get the character sheet and tagline updated tonight.

hiyami |

Oh, yay~ I do actually have the 2 PP for it. Should I remove the 2 PP now or do I wait until I receive the chronicle sheet from this game to make the changes to my sheet? Or do I just make the changes and use the chronicle at the end to confirm/as proof?
Haha... Thanks, GM. :) It's been a while since I've done anything with PFS so I'm basically a newblet.

![]() |

Character Sheet, Fluff, and Tagline updated.
4) If you have something unusual or complicated about your character that I should keep in mind, please tell me now.
Reidog has SR 6, requires a standard action to drop for 1 round.

GM Dien |

Cheers Reidog!
Hiyami, you can wait for the chronicle sheet as you like, but the PP is now spent and the wand is in your inventory (well, assuming you are choosing to obtain it now, haha).

(I have no idea how to alter an avatar on the forums for specific characters.)
1. Click the "Pathfinder Society" link on the left of the page.
2. Click "Create a Character"3. Enter logon information
4. Click the "Edit" button next to the correct PFS alias
5. Click the "Change" button next to "Character Image"

Who needs healing? I'm only down 1, I can survive.
Geera, do you have an elixir to heal yourself?
Can anyone do anything about Kaya's Str damage?

![]() |

10/13 here so I think I am good to go, I just wont charge off by myself being heroic.
The Str is hard to heal in the field at this level. 1pt per night of rest or lesser restoration.

![]() |

Oops, I posted in Gameplay before checking here. I just healed up with my wand. Hiyami, I'm happy to tap you with yours.

hiyami |

That post timing - my bad, orz... And wow, I'm dumb. I looked at the spoiler after trying the rolls (because I'm a total goob and didn't wanna look at 'em if someone didn't actually get 'em and curiosity is a bleep) so now I just feel silly for rolling something - the incorrect something, even - for a thing that I technically wouldn't even know, orz.
Also, yaaaay, thank you Pathfinder gods for the mercy of lesser restoration. May Kaya not be foolish enough to charge into another nest of spiders. ;A;

GM Dien |

Okay, work deadline is past and finished, sorry for the slow down, folks! Going to get us back on track now.

![]() |

I think we have all been trying lol

I'll get a post up later tonight (GMing local Pathfinder today); Rogar, if you haven't had a chance to respond to my most recent OOC comment in gameplay by then, I'll assume you double moved.

![]() |

Looking forward to it! Also, I just wanted to make sure - my BAB is 0, so I don't get to draw/sheathe a weapon as part of my move action (whilst moving), right?

dien RPG Superstar 2015 Top 16 |

Okay agents, here's chronicles! Let me know if I botched anyone's, I always make a mistake somewhere. The game will be logged shortly.
I hope you all had a good time and learned some things about playing PBP online!

![]() |

Thank you for running this. Not only did I have a great time and learn something but I think I found the PFS character I am going to focus on.
Thank you again.

![]() |

Thank you for running the game! C: I definitely learned a lot about pbping here. ^o^
Don't think anything went wrong, but I have a question re: bag of tricks. Kaya got in game, but should I still be removing 900 gold for it? (b/c I def don't have that much gp). I'm just not sure how that works? @_@
You don't get to keep any of the items you receive in game.
Each of us now has the option to buy that magic item for 900gp at any point in the future. (Of course you already had that option, so I am not really sure why they bother listing it on the sheet).

dien RPG Superstar 2015 Top 16 |

Yes, what Reidog said. You don't keep anything you find or acquire in game, but you can use it in the scenario itself. After that, if you want to purchase it, it must be paid for out of your gold.
Season 0's chronicle sheets tended not to have the greatest 'loot rewards'- as Reidog says, most things were available to buy anyway, so it didn't mean much that they were on a chronicle sheet. However, as PFS goes on, the rewards on chronicle sheets tend to get better: keep an eye out for things like very nice wands with partial charges making them affordable (i.e., you're probably not going to spend 4500 on a full wand of glitterdust, but if you could spend 450 on a partical wand of it with only ten charges, that's much more feasible!), or scrolls at higher caster levels, or special ammunitions that can be bought in limited amounts... things like that.
Thanks for the kind words, glad everyone had fun!

I will get mine later to tonight. Last night was anniversary so didn't get on
