I'll give some time for someone without a -3 to these checks to take a crack at 'em :p
Joli, The Artist |
“Greetings, I am called Joli of the Pathfinder Society. We were hoping you would talk to us concerning some troubling rumors we have heard. It is my understanding that your group keeps track of the comings and goings in this district.”
Arkyr is much better at the Diplomacy skill, so I would prefer he do the check and I Aid. I will give a roll in a spoiler in any event.
GM Redelia |
"We're lookin' for the one who killed one of our gals, a former slave named Renna. She was a scullery slave freed during the recent siege, and joined our team. She disappeared about a week ago. We think she was taken by whoever is killing all the freed slaves. We tried to chase down the blighter 'at done it, but all we could find is that he wore metal armor, and couldn't make 'is right side move right. We're afraid that after the bugger is done wi' former slaves, he'll be after us next."
One of the others chimes in, "Some o' the big men think the killin of Renna may be revenge for us killin' some half elf cleric. I don't know what they're talkin' about, though."
Arykir |
"I dont suppose you know anything else useful? The more you tell us, the more likely we are to find those responsible and deal with them."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Joli, The Artist |
“I agree with you, I also think it was because someone went after your Remna for the same reason they went after our Nelfurhin Zor. They both used to be slaves, and someone doesn’t like that.”
Given the journal we found, I’m guessing the name is Remna but Autocorrect interfered.
“Cleric of what religion?”
Please don’t say Milani!
GM Redelia |
"Naw, don't know any more that we've already told you."
You return to Ambrus Valsin to report your results.
Although the Barbers may commit numerous other crimes, they’re as much the victims as the Pathfinder Society is in the case of the Rose Street Killer. Ambrus Valsin is relieved to hear that resolving this situation won’t involve going toe to toe with such a formidable opponent, but he remains troubled that the killer is still at large. He encourages you to rest for a while as he finishes piecing together his next lead.
Valsin gives you a minor elixir of life, noting that the investigation seems to be getting more dangerous and you should have this elixir in case of emergency.
-------------------------------------------------------
Your spells and other daily uses are recharged before we start the next quest. Also, the elixir will carry over to the rest of the quests, since that seems to be the intention here.
_Experiment Three-Two-Two |
"Well done eveyrone! Information without a fight. It looks like those barbers might even be any ally for us in finding out what is happening."
No-Find Tuk |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
"Tuk is sad that he can't test if his daggers are sharp enuf for a... - he fails to realize he's talking to himself, out loud -Whatdem call it? Red neck-grin? No... Red-neck shave? No... Grin-son shave, dat's it. Tuk didn't Grin-son shave no barbers, Joli too good at talking. Me knows fight is bad if you lose, and not losing is good. Thanks for winning the word fight Joli."
He hears Experimentia, and his eyes gleam "You think they'll lend Tuk a sharp razor? To stab badder people with it?"
Joli, The Artist |
“It probably got us better information than fighting would have.” she admits.
Just as she is saying this, Tuk asks about asks about razors. Quick! What can I say so as to dissuade him from that? Think!
Got it!
“Razors are for beards, Tuk. Your people don’t grow beards, so no one would believe you can shave them right.” Trying to look regretful, she adds “It may not be fair, but people wouldn’t trust a goblin barber.”
Deception U: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (19) - 3 = 16
“So, off to report our findings and then to the Puddles so we can talk to the Mudruckers!”
—
When meeting with Valsin, she asks “Do you know anything about a priest of Milani? I would really like to know more about the person who wrote the journal we found.”
—
She is as ready as she will ever be to go into the Puddles district.
GM Redelia |
The next morning, a messenger delivers a note from Ambrose Valsin (see handout 3 in the maps deck) and a bag containing 35 SP. Following the instructions, you travel to the Puddles District. It does not take much searching to find one of the Muckrakers.
Rain patters down onto the muddy streets of Absalom’s Puddles district, covering it with the murky pools of water that give the district its name. The buildings that line the streets have seen better days. Many of them are decaying, shuttered, or boarded up. The door of one of these buildings swings open, letting rats rush out into the streets. A woman wearing leather armor and a bronze badge stands in the doorway, slashing a shortsword into the swarm of rats and urging them out of the building. On her forearm, a tattoo of a dog animates and snarls. She sees you, and calls out, "Do you need something? As you can see, I’m busy. Can’ have vermin chewing thorough our food stores, and this isn’t even the first swarm of rats I’ve dealt with today. They’ve been everywhere lately."
Joli, The Artist |
Joli says “We would like to talk with you or one of the other Mudruckers, but first let’s help with those rats!”
Saying this, Joli moves closer and uses her Acid Splash to help disperse the swarm.
_Experiment Three-Two-Two |
Experimentia looks out at the dreary weather and sighs.
"Why is it never nice weather when we have to be out and about. Always overcast, or worse - sewers. " she moans.
When the dog animates on the womans arm she however pricks up her ears, quite the feat for a gnome, and looks impressed. "Wow, cool. How did you do that?"
She fingers the bag of silver given by Ambrose. "Looks like you could do with hiring some additional help."
GM Redelia |
The woman appears quite happy with the help with the vermin. I'm going to give a circumstance bonus of +2 to any diplomacy checks; I can't find permission in the rulebook for that, but it makes sense. If any of you can find something that says how I'm supposed to give you a bonus, let me know and we'll adjust.
When Experimentia notices her tattoo, the woman shrugs. "It's from the War Hounder gang. I used to run with them, knocking in heads and taking odd jobs to make some coin. The Muckruckers gave me a second chance at life."
Cwethan's Iconic |
The current guidance on ad-hoc circumstance bonuses is that it should usually be a +1, or a +2 if it's particularly significant
Mal looks very serious as he nods. "Second chances are rare; glad you're makin' the most o' this'n."
_Experiment Three-Two-Two |
"Do the Warhounders still run in the puddles? Are we likely to run into them?" asks the somewhat excited sounding gnome.
"I guess dropping your name wouldn't do us any favors?"
She shrugs a little. Not that a gnome shrug can be anythink other that little.
"We were wondering if you had heard of anything odd happening in the area recently..." she starts off.
Joli, The Artist |
“Oh, and before it is forgotten we better give you this!” Joli says as she hands over the bag of coins from Ambrose Valsin. “It is a donation from our venture captain to the Mudruckers.”
Arykir |
Arykir closes in on the woman with a friendly smile.
"We are Pathfinders and are looking for a bit of help and information. As you can see, we help those who help us!"

GM Redelia |
"Well, I received a report from Dahlia that one of her friends has gone missing. With the vermin currently running amuck, we can't afford the time to look into her report without more evidence to suspect foul play. If you want to talk to Dahlia about is, she works as a cook at a tavern called the Frog’s Tongue.
Cwethan's Iconic |
"Can't imagine Dahlia's friend's th'only one to wind up missin' 'round 'ere. Would they happen to've fought in the Fiendflesh Siege?"
_Experiment Three-Two-Two |
"Lots of rats in the taven too, undoubtably." notes Experimentilia.
"Maybe different flavor..."
