"yeah I figured, it's why they are on the end of the list, I'll check the monastery first, maybe the both of us could hit the church, should we all split up? go in pairs? what?"

"I got ta say, I'm rather new ta this place. Perhaps we could ask the pup ya had night before last bout where ta be lookin? Other then that, I got nothin."

"Hmm. Maybe."
she turns to soroden and ox
"Any ideas?"

"Nothing off the top of my head, but I get the impression that they might keep coming to us..."

"Mmm. That's a possibility... What do you think we should do to avoid that?"

"Do any of you have any divinations? My own connection to my deity is not... Sophisticated, enough to be of much use in that regard"

"Ion fixes things that are broken and makes sure I hit people that need breaking. Thas all the magic I got."

"I don't. Anyway, let's just go where luck sends us. We'll split up tin two groups."
she thinks for a moment.
"How about me and roy, and the three of you go together?"

"sounds like a plan, you guys stay out of trouble"

"We'll try. No promises."

"Any complaints?"
she asks ox and soroden

"I guess not... that'll be fine."

"alright then. let's head off, i suppose."

"so we'll go to the monastery and the guards, you go to the church, and the bars?"

"Ooh. Bars. Sounds like we got lots a work ta do."
He says with a grin.

Roy does slightly decent.
He doesn't get outright turned away but doesn't really get much either.
He does know how to work with drunk people so if anyone happens to be top heavy this early in the morning he might manage something from them.

Intimidate if needed: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14

gather info: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (20) + 15 = 35

Cliff goes to the other people with him "we'll my contact couldn't give me much, and what he could give me isn't good..." He tells them what his contact told him.

They all reconvene at what I assume is their bar.
"I managed to get something. Guy was knackered, but he kept pourin on about a swamp. That may er may not be somthin when we get things put tagether."

Soroden also makes some inquiries while at the monastery.

"Not much, and what I did get isn't exactly good news, the guards I talked to didn't know where they were or really much about them, they figure they got some pretty high tier magical shielding, which opens up other implications that also aren't good"

"I see. Anything from you, ox?"

after a moment of scilene, she looks at ox, then says
"Well, i got something about a large building out in the swamp."

Cliff shrugs "good a place to start as any"

"Yeah, well, there is only one problem. What swamp. There isn't any for a long way from here."

"Ah there's the rub...hmm"

it's probably out of town, but how could they get there and back? It doesn't add up.

"Hmm well it almost certainly isn't in town, i mean it's a swamp, but with how mobile they are... How do they get to their targets.. Are they teleporting we know they have access to some kind of heavy duty magic.. Are they close... Maybe they are underground?"

"Not sure. Never heard of an underground swamp, though."

"Come on, think people. Where could we ask?"

"A magic gate somewhere in town perhaps to the swamp?"

"Hmm who could we ask, we could of course wait to be attacked and try again, but that plan should be saved for last, maybe we could ask a mage's guild? Or whatever they want to call themselves this week?" is there one, this town is huge right? Edit: smaller unorginized groups fearuring mostly wizards, whiches and other prople who don't automatically know spells probably mostly being 5th lvl or below, would almost certainly form in the absence of an actual school or guild, simply so they could have a place to brag to people and copy spells out of the other people's books

no, there isn't. Magic is not organized well here.
"Yes, you could."

"One a the top heavy fellas in a bar we found said they keep a swamp in a building in west port. I thought he had just had way too much, but now that I hear the same from you..."

"Well at least it's a place to start" cliff shrugs

"Makes as much sense as anything else, i suppose."

"But why would they use a swamp? If they can put a swamp there, why would they not just put something nice in there? Swamp ain't the best place to put a thing like that."

"Maybe because they want to dissuade people like us from showing up, who knows, maybe we should ask them"

"But why a swamp? If it's hidden why not hide something better?"

"as I said, why not we just ask them?" he gets a malicious grin on his face.

"With any luck, they'll be a little busy being broken to answer."
He responds with a similar expression.
