From Ash, Regrowth

Game Master Wrong John Silver

The Chitterwood has lain in ruins, a burned-out shell of its former self.

From the ramshackle remote outpost of the Drunken Silkworm Inn, an intrepid band working under the auspices of the Green Faith plan to regrow the forest.

I haven't whipped up the crunch for him yet, but I'd like to submit Abroshtor Waterwinkle, a young gnome alchemist (with the Visionary Researcher archetype) from Umok, in Isger. A survivor, in his youth, of the Goblinblood Wars, Abroshtor is traveling in the hopes of learning more about the war that was so important to his childhood. (He's also running from someone, not that he advertises the fact.) He's probably going to go straight up the levels in this class, though I'm open to that changing as he learns more and makes new discoveries along the way...he could wind up taking a level in wizard, or even in rogue, if the cards fall right.

DM Wrong, what are your feelings on the story feats from Ultimate Campaign? He has the war in his background, so I'm considering the Deny the Reaper feat. It's not necessary, though.

Hmmmm, I just saw your last post, and I hadn't realized that the Wars were quite THAT recent. Well, that just gives him a more powerful attachment to them, really...he's lived in Umok his whole life, so nothing really has to change there except my concept of his background.

Can you let me know if Ketomir's format is ok? I still need to pick feats, assign skills and purchase equipment. I've added his beackstory in his profile.

Also, can I take the drawback I mentioned?

The Exchange

I just got into another game which is probably more my speed, and I don't think I have time for both, so I'm going to withdraw myself from this game. Thanks though!

Added some background for Thorgrund. I think he's pretty much finished.

Krissina submitted, not done gear yet, and need to do another run through the stats etc, but should be essentially done.
Human Oracle (Fire/Haunted)

Ok; this is the Norv back. Here's Abroshtor's crunch. I'll write up his background in the next couple of days!

Let me know if anything looks amiss.

OK so I got Samwise's Profile basically done. Fluff and all.

It's missing some names. I could do with some character names from the bar, that Sam would know. Likewise, I haven't given the tribe or anyone in the Tribe names yet. I would like to name the tribe the Zithembe tribe. IE Samwise's second name is his tribe name. After that I'm happy to make up a name for Sam's Father and the tribe leader who was in charge when he left.

Sam's opinions on the PC's that stand out to him so far. This is based on the look of the characters, not their background.

Tamis Thimble, Gnome Druid (blondebandit)
Catfolk share a playful nature with Gnomes and if Sam could get over his own shy nature he would enjoy being friends with a gnome. To add to that he also has an affinity with nature, so they’ll have that in common
Abroshtor Waterwinkle, Gnome Alchemist (The Norv)
Again Sam will share a playful nature with any Gnome, but will also be curious about anything you're tinkering with. At times enough to be a nuisance.
Delara Shadowpaw, Catfolk Unarmed Fighter (Witch's Knight)
Samwise has not really interacted with another catfolk in about 4 years. He is very curious about others, certainly female ones, considering he had not yet grown to adulthood when he left his tribe.
On the other hand if we both get picked that puts 2 fighters on the team. The original concept was rouge/ninja, that would work better... Not saying you should change it if you prefer this build just saying.
Ketomir Sandargaard, Human Inquisitor (Oceanshieldwolf)
Catfolk rarely put themselves forward as a leader, but often nominate the one that they feel is the most worthy. At first glance, if a party was to be formed Samwise would choose Ketomir as the leader
Korrum, Half-Orc Storm Druid (Daynen)
Due to his past Sam is drawn to strong/powerful characters, even if the feeling isn't reciprocated. Korrum may find Samwise watching him a lot, asking him questions about his profession and sleeping near him at night!

I'll have a deeper look over peoples profiles, those with backgrounds, to see how Sam would interact with the characters over time.

This is not a review of everyone’s work, just me thinking out loud about character development. I’m excited...

Finished updating Ashtari. Always appreciate feedback!

@PhilofCalth: The concept hasn't changed, I just dipped Unarmed Fighter for IUS and Dragon Style. Next level is going to be rogue or ninja.

@DM Wrong Are you alright with a Ninja taking the scout archetype?

Ashtari's connection with reencarnation and nature will intreague Samwise if he get's to know about it.
I look at AC 11 and panic a bit! That's why I don't like to play wizards! If you drop the rope (someone with higher str can carry that) can you get an armoured kilt for now.

Daisy Honeywick's childlike personality will ring well with Samwise. If she follows the strong path the standard paladin usually takes Sam might well consider her a good leader to the group

@Witch's Knight - Oh right! In that case I definatly don't feel that there is a real crossover between our 2 characters, except for the fact that we are both Catfolk.

Hi. I am not quite done yet, but here is what I have so far for so as not to surprise you at the last minute.

Born of the Chitterwood and exiled to its outer reaches since the great fire that destroyed her once beautiful forest, Shinrin Fukushu as she has come to be known, or "Shin" for short, has been working as cook at The Drunken Silkworm for many a year now. This she-elf's black almond-shaped eyes and nearly fey facial features are alluring and disturbing in equal measure. Although she seems pleasant enough to deal with, and the food she serves is as nutritious and delicious as any you've tasted in your travels, years of anger and hatred over what was done to her - no wait, to the forest - simmer just beneath the surface. Shin is a vessel containing the forest spirit's thirst for vengeance. Yet she is also filled with the hope of bringing the Chitterwood back to life.

Shinrin "Shin" Fukushu ("Forest Vengeance")
Race: Elf
Class: Witch 1, Hexes: Prehensile Hair (Su), Cauldron* (Ex), Patron: Vengeance, Familiar: Hedgehog

Str: 10 = 10
Dex: 16 = 14 +2(Elf)
Con: 10 = 12 -2(Elf)
Int: 19 = 17 +2(Elf)
Wis: 10 = 10
Cha: 10 = 10

Elf Traits: standard
Equipment Trait: Rough and Ready
Social Trait: Life of Toil

Feats:
Extra Hex

Skills:
Craft (alchemy): +12 = 1(rank) +4(Int) +3(class skill) +4(insight)
Intimidate: +4 = 1(rank) +0(Cha) +3(class skill)
Knowledge (nature): +8 = 1(rank) +4(Int) +3(class skill)
Profession (cook): +4 = 1(rank) +0(Wis) +3(class skill)
Spellcraft: +8 = 1(rank) +4(Int) +3(class skill)
Use Magic Device: +4 = 1(rank) +0(Cha) +3(class skill)

If you allow the bad guys to get adjacent to your wizard then you deserve to lose the fight lol

Ashtari wrote:

Adjacent? Who says they have to be adjacent?! I take any precation I could in your shoes. See my suggestion above (you may have missed it while I was editing)

*Shrug* If I do get selected and it's a game where the enemies seem driven to kill me with mundane attacks I'll simply learn mage armor. Maybe pick up a small mithril shield when I have the money. Either way I don't worry about nitpicking to get every bonus I need unless the campaign is designed to be so difficult that's the only way to survive (in which case I would not be playing a wizard).

As you wish. If we're both picked I'll do my best to stand between you and the archer(s)...

Now that is a BSF who knows how to do their job!

@Samwise/PhilOfCalth I love your mule's name. Daisy would love it, too. I don't really know what path she will take. That is going to be fun to discover. Daisy has never seen a Catfolk in person before, so I'm sure she will be very curious about Sam.

@Ashtari I would say that you are welcome to hide behind Daisy, but alas, she is a little too small. If Daisy can help it, nobody will die while she still has any power to do something about it, but she does not have access to any healing or defensive abilities yet, so be on guard!

Gear is done, Krissina is complete. Though has a surprising amount of coin left.

Ketomir is now completed and awaiting review.

All my questions for the DM together in the same place:
1/ What's your posting schedual? 1 per day? A few times a day?
2/ I could do with some character names from the bar, that Sam would know. Can you make me some please?
3/ I haven't given the tribe or anyone in the Tribe names yet. I would like to name the tribe the Zithembe tribe. IE Samwise's second name is his tribe name. Is that OK?

Functionally my character is finished too, I just wanted to make things a little more real in his background.

Everyone: Because I've been so busy, I'm going to push back then ending date of Phase 1 until Friday. This is the important phase; we need to get this right.

Thorgrund: Note that it's the shield spikes that are masterwork and not the shield itself (it still gives you -1 ACP). Also, you have 4 gp, 6 sp, and 8 cp remaining, and that's not noted. Finally, I'd like to see the math behind your saving throws.

Note for everyone that this sheet is a good way to highlight the character choices while still using Hero Lab output. I like to see the math, what was taken, what was given up, all that.

With these notes, Thorgrund is Approved.

Tamis: List out all the racial abilities you've chosen and class abilities you have separately. Also include abilities like Nature Sense and Academician in these lists so that your skill bonuses are called out separately--you've got both Obsessive and Academician noted on the sheet right now. I'd also like to see the math behind your ability choices. Also, your equipment. What you have is close, but not quite there.

Ivan: Wrong background? Looks like it's for Curse of the Crimson Throne. Other than that, everything looks to be in order. Get the background fixed, and you'll be approved. Do you have an alias available?

Daisy: Split out all racial abilities in its own separate section. Otherwise, Approved.

I'm still going through everyone, but I wanted to get this started and posted. I know that there are new characters that aren't on the list. I'll keep updating this throughout the day,

Here's the list as it stands:

Thorgrund Bronsson, Dwarf Skirmisher (Torillan) Approved
Tamis Thimble, Gnome Druid (blondebandit)
Ivan Merlovitch, Human Scout (Chris Parker) Approved
Daisy Honeywick, Halfling Paladin (Sheph) Approved
Delara Shadowpaw, Catfolk Unarmed Fighter (Witch's Knight)
Ketomir Sandargaard, Human Inquisitor (Oceanshieldwolf)
Samwise Zithembe, Catfolk Brawler (PhilOfCalth)
Korrum, Half-Orc Storm Druid (Daynen)
Ashtari, Samsaran Diviner (CampinCarl9127)

1/day will be fine.

I'll get you some names once I'm finished with this round of reviews.

Zithembe is fine.

Adding the following characters to the list:

Krissina: Human Flame Oracle (spinningdice)
Abroshtor Waterwinkle: Gnome Visionary Researcher (The Norv)
Shinrin Fukushu: Elf Witch (Sean Weasley)

Witch's Knight: I will accept a Ninja Scout.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what else would you like to see from me? I had believed I had everything done.

Ashtari wrote:

You probably have, I just haven't fininshed my review yet. I'm juggling this with other responsibilities right now, I'm just going down the list.

Ah, understood. Probably just my quick response, I managed to set up a matlab system that notifies my phone when one of my threads has a new post.

Awh smeg I just overwrote my entire profile!

Give me a bit and I'll write it back up

Updated Profile. Let me know if anything is still not to satisfaction.

Thanks for the review! I guess I didn't think about the spikes that way...I may change that and just use a MW shield straight (still mulling it over).

Anyway, thanks for the nod about the stat sheet. If anybody wants the HTML code template to use here, I can see if I can post it here.

Also DM, I'll adjust my sheet based on your notes later tonight.

Fixed! Can't believe I did that!
Anyway Samwise is back now with a better picture links.

@Witch's Knight -

About your sheet:
I was having a look at your profile to double check my own. It seems to imply that you plan on using unarmed attack with two unarmed/natural weapon attacks at +4/+4. Shouldn't you be taking the negatives for two weapon fighting in that case. I would have thought your attacks would be at 0/-4. Furthermore I would have thought you would only add 1/2 your strength to the second attack.
This is what I was going off for my build

I could be talking nonsense... Feel free to tell me I'm wrong

Shin is pretty much done. DM, please view her profile to see. Thanks.

I used Gaedren Lamm because it gives my character a reason to both be born into poverty and to have escaped into the countryside. Rather than try to get even, he just wanted to leave that life behind, and headed in the direction of where this campaign is set - he likely doesn't even know that Lamm is dead (assuming that Curse of the Crimson Throne has happened). There were many Little Lambs, after all... I'll set up an alias now, since I'm approved - I prefer not to do so until I'm approved, because I might want to reuse the name in the future.

I think I fixed everything. His Will save was incorrect, and I added the breakdown of each.

I went ahead and dropped the shield spikes, and kept the light steel shield masterwork. I could still conceivably make the shield a magic weapon down the road. By doing that and with Improved Shield, no ACP and he can keep the AC bonus while bashing...

I might have messed up the maths with remaining gold...can't think straight now.

Here's Ivan's alias; I'll get the stats and background added to it shortly.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

@Thorgrund - When you've leveled up enough you can use Shield Master to use that enhancment bonus for attacks as well as an AC bonus.

Tamis Thimble wrote:

That works, Tamis is Approved.

Ashtari wrote:

Ashtari: Do you have Shards of the Past, or Mystic Past Life? It's not clear from your sheet. Please list that out along with Samsaran Magic in a Racial Abilities section. Which spell benefits from Domineering? Mention it where your trait is mentioned. Also, show the math behind your abilities and saves and list prices/weights of your equipment. Show the spending of ranks on your skills.

This is why I don't like Hero Lab just as Hero Lab alone.

Ketomir Sandargaard wrote:

Ketomir: You don't get your WIS bonus to initiative yet; wait for 2nd level. You're also missing your Human bonus skill rank, unless you've taken an alternate racial quality, which isn't spelled out. You're also missing languages.

PhilOfCalth wrote:

No problems, Samwise is Approved. Spell out the ability spend and saves.

@PhilofCalth

You would be absolutely right if those were unarmed strikes, but natural attacks work differently. Claws are a primary attack, which means I can full attack with both of them at no penalty and with my full Strength bonus on both, but I'll never have iterative attacks with them. They also don't work with the benefits to unarmed strikes that most Style feats offer unless I pick up the Feral Combat Training Feat, but that doesn't bother me. I picked up Dragon Style for the ability to charge/run/withdraw over difficult terrain, not the +1/2 Str bonus to one unarmed strike per round.

Natural Attacks

But I did format incorrectly, the first entry should read "2 claws +4 etc."

Everything should be up to date now. If I pick up more than half a pound I'm at a medium load lol. Would you like me to reformat Ashtari? It won't be any trouble.

Fixed... I think... I spelt out my xp spend (I had this before but forgot to redo it when I had to start again). And the save breakdowns are now beside them

@Witches - I wouldn't have thought the Universal monster rules would apply to PCs. Not up to me though :P

That's the plan!

Same Here!

I think I'm actually going to have to withdraw Abroshtor from consideration, actually. Some things have come up in my original reality, and the number of games/campaigns I can take part in is going to be more limited. It's a shame, I thought this setup sounded really cool, and Isger is a region I've never had the chance to explore before!

Have a good time, everyone!

Ashtari, Samsaran Diviner (CampinCarl9127)
Krissina, Human Flame Oracle (spinningdice)
Shinrin Fukushu, Elf Witch (Sean Weasley)

Don't worry, I'll get to and finish up everyone on this list. I recognize I've been the slow one, and I won't penalize anyone just becuase I haven't reviewed you yet.

You're doing fine...that's a lot of work to go through a PFRPG character sheet! Your attention to detail is most appreciated.
