One neat thing to add, maybe in place of religion, would be like sites of power on the map. Like a location on the map that would give you bonus power per turn or bonus dice when you roll.

This would have to be added to the map after people create their starting points or be discovered when a square is settled or perhaps are created through special events.

No internet. On phone right now. I hope to have internet fixed soon. Keep discussing. I'n not really in a position to update right now, as I can only do that with my PC or netbook.

Well, uniting population size with power makes sense. But there maybe ought to be other methods of adding power, too. As religion is so far the -only- means of getting the very, very, very important power, besides one's initial roll.

While I love the basic idea, random resources make for a very GM-intensive game.

Random resources is a bit much, yeah.

I do hope we haven't killed the game by these discussions. I think to myself:

Man, we could've been playing a whole turn by now.

And it angers/upsets me that we've stopped the game, even if it could use some tweaking.

If it is between playing without tweaks, and not playing at all, I pick the former all day long.

Sorry. I'm feeling incredibly drained right now. :(

I'm not complaining about you not Gming another round, but rather that it seems we've stopped the game because of a vague sense of dissatisfaction, which is taking more out of the game by stopping.

If we can't agree on a set of things to change, let's just play as is.

I'm okay with the religion ranks correspond to power based on pop. 5 ranks in religion - up to 5 power if your settlements have 5 pop.

For those who don't know: Master of Magic is a major inspiration here.

I suggest we get on with the game.

Am I the only one who now feels like this game has been completely abandoned over a minor quibble over the rules?

Whatever you want to do, just get things started.

Guys. We need to make a turn. Pronto. This game will die if we just let it sit idle for nights and nights for no reason. We should have had two turns since then.

I am just waiting for GM to regain her strength.

I don't think is been abandoned or that it was a rules quibble, people continue to discuss and quibble because they are interested in the game. We havn't had another turn because the GMs been having internet problems and hasn't had the chance to update.

^ What those two said. I'm okay with this. Just exhibiting patience is key. :)

I am infinitely sad.

However, I will try to do an update today, using the old rules. I'll post the new rules we will use in subsequent turns (minor changes such as that to religion; no turn phase rules or anything).

I'm sorry you're feeling sad, UR! But I'm glad you're talking to us!

Do please update us on the status of the game. It's now been four full days since we've had a turn.

Al, please be a little more respectful: she battles depression, and it can be difficult for her. Thanks!

I mean no disrespect at all. I've known Umbral for a long time, but the game is languishing and getting something of an update sounds like a good idea to keep us all here. I am sure people will soon be dropping from a lack of activity.

I'd offer to GM a round or something, but I frankly don't have enough experience and it'd be a conflict of interest. I don't know anyone else who could manage to GM this, either, due to it being her creation. So we're kinda boned if Umbral doesn't come and fix things.

I'm a do this! (processing now)

Okay, I'm doing this really soon. I just made dinner and discovered I'm totally out of food. Going to the supermarket. Back soon, then finishing processing.

Depression does things like this: I neglect to do ordinary, mundane tasks like get food.

He who is Within and Without, the Father of Thought.

Take it easy. From my experience with these things, you should pick your fights and try to snowball small victories into bigger ones ^^

In my opinion, a game like this only gets better when there's some time in between turns for roleplaying. Buuuut that might just be me! *laughs*

The next turn is up!

Phew. That was a complicated turn.

He who is Within and Without, the Father of Thought.

That put a dent in my expansionist fantasies xD

To determine random locations, I rolled 1d20 for horizontal coordinate and another 1d20 for the vertical coordinate.

He who is Within and Without, the Father of Thought.

It's fine, no need to explain :D I did receive a warning after all *winks*

Hah! I totally did the first turn this time!
... here's hoping it doesn't bite me somehow. Again. :)

#$^$%&%^*&$$#$$%&$^&%$!!!!!

The website just ate my post twice in a row, I'll try to redo it again tonight........

Male Agathion (Leonal) Gestalt Monk-Paladin (with bardic performance!); Mythic (dual): Archmage/Heirophant

Of course I made a mistake. Of course I did.

I used the new religion rules instead of the current ones. I should have generated five more power (religion 4, two settlements -> 8 power).

In that case, if P4 is not able to grow on its own after it's settled, I should be able to inspire city (grow) twice: one at 6 power and the other at 7 power. That would leave me with 0 points. On the other hand, if it is able to grow on its own, I'm sticking with the "3", and the extra five power goes to The Source, as otherwise described.

EDIT: Also, Hordshyrd, we're waiting for you to bring on a vampire-based world-shattering cataclysm over there. So get back to work! Also, I'm really sorry about the post-loss. That's really annoying, I know. :/

No update today. The game is getting more complex and I'm not going to try to do it with my netbook. This will be the case every Thursday, since I'm away from home one day a week.

Hmm.

In case I was unclear:

'Mine Meteor' is a city action. It has a chance of depleting the meteor and provides Power.

'Create Armies with Meteorite Equipment' is a different action, that also has a chance of depleting the meteor.

Unless you inspire the city, you can't both mine it for power and equip your armies with it.

Lord Yogga, you may want to let me know if you wanted a meteorite army from that action or the 2 power it produced.

Edit: I probably should have called them different things, like 'transmute meteor to power' and 'forge meteor into equipment'.

He who is Within and Without, the Father of Thought.

"Create Army, Special: Use Meteorite"
"City Action, Mine Meteorite"

.. but yeah, I'll keep it in mind while I draft up my turn!

Lantern Lodge

I got that bit, but you also said to roll to see if the meteorite is depleted when making an army, so that's why I rolled there.

Ah, yes. It just doesn't produce any power from the roll. All it's for is to check for depletion.

Thanks for everything you do, Umbral Reaver!

Dang, I completely didn't even look at this yesterday. Now I gotta catch up.

On the other hand, I have Master of Magic again!! Woohoo!

Just to clarify: IF one were to raise terrain twice on one square in a turn, it would in the next turn move twice, yes? You can do that, yes? Ditto with changing climate.

Lantern Lodge

Right, maybe I should have made that more clear in my post.

Yes.

And now I seem to have caught a cold.

:(

Lantern Lodge

Aww poor umbral, rest for easter, feel better, take some hippy herbal junk that makes you feel better. If you're really stuffed up I suggest chopping onions.

If you got two kids you could have closed circulation of germs - dad infects mom, mom infects first kid, first kid infects second kid and second kid infects dad as soon as his cold is cured.

Male Agathion (Leonal) Gestalt Monk-Paladin (with bardic performance!); Mythic (dual): Archmage/Heirophant

Only one so far.
Although, in many ways, count as the second kid, so...

Uh. Where's Source?

It's been 24 hours since he posted here in the discussion thread and I don't see a move from him. HOpefully there'll be one soon so we can move on to the next cycle.

Maybe the brain-mold was among the units I smited?

Actually, there is a simple explanation:

The Source wrote:

It's lost for us now. We probably can play the game for a few days before the Source shows up again ;)

LOL.

Let's hope that isn't the case, though eventually we do have to progress the game.

I suggested to Umbral that we ought to adopt a roughly 48-hour cycle for each turn. That gives people adequate time to move.
