Adventure Path Rise of the Runelords - Strange incidents in Sandpoint: a goblin raid, shadows of the past, a serial killer...what other perils do the brave Sandpoint Saviours have to master?

And besides, it's fun to watch them beat on each other

Bards are artists. Consider this performance art.

The finale is justice.

Fascinate/Suggestion are bard skills that just rarely seem to get used in most campaigns, and this particular situation just seems too perfect.

Will save1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Will save1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Will save1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Will save1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14

You're lucky to get the attention of the strongest looking ogre and one of the others. A bit surprised but not overly interested in your arrival the other two try to continue the argument, but the big one ends it with a violent grunt.

Will save1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23

Attack the others? That not good, they three!

Female Changeling(Hulking) Bard/10 (HP: 82/82; AC27; FF23; T14; F+7, R+11, W+7; Perc: +11, Init +10)

Yes, but only one can be the Horse Crowned King. And that should be you. A king that cannot defeat three weak minions is no king. If you hit first, they will fall before you.

Attempt Suggestion again (against stupid high rolling saves DM):

Suggestion to get him to attack other orgres: DC18 Will

Will save1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20

The ogre still seems unimpressed...but nonetheless greedy and so he steps two steps closer and whispers

And will you help me?

Female Changeling(Hulking) Bard/10 (HP: 82/82; AC27; FF23; T14; F+7, R+11, W+7; Perc: +11, Init +10)

Ailetha grins at the ogre's question:
But of course. I only support the strongest, which you undoubtedly are. You attack and I shall heal any wounds you should take.

Suggestion once more: Will DC18

Bluff: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (9) + 15 = 24

Then we have a deal...we you can heal, than you can also give me power, do it now, little human.

This is far funnier to me than it probably should be.

Well, that was probably too much of mumo-jumbo nonsense^^

Female Changeling(Hulking) Bard/10 (HP: 82/82; AC27; FF23; T14; F+7, R+11, W+7; Perc: +11, Init +10)

Yes, but strike quickly. You are far stronger than them. I will use my powers to make your strikes stronger and more accurate. But the skill is yours, I cannot guaranty you will hit.

Bluff: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (20) + 15 = 35

Ailetha proceeds to wiggle her fingers and speak a few words in draconic so that it appears she is casting a spell.

Nah, it was just hilarious. Especially the "do it now, little human" bit.

Alana watches and listens from her spot, amused by the ingenuity of Alietha's plan and quite pleased to see it working so well.

Hey, once in a blue moon a bard has a chance to do something other than Inspire Courage and Inspire Competence. This just feels like one of those chances, might as well have fun with it.

Celestra stands by Alana's side and hopes that Ailetha's plan works. She whispers to the sorceress, "Ailetha can truly be a charmer, but that can sometimes be lost on an ogre. Let's hope her charms work this time."

Female Half-Elf/Human (Bloodline Fey) Sorceress/8

"Indeed, she seems to have him so far."

AHHH, POWER!

placebo or not, the ogre seems to thrive under the effects of your "spell". Sweeping around, ogre hook outstretched, he takes off the head of one of the very surprised other monsters and seconds later, the remaining three engage in a bloody fight and moments later all of them lie on the ground, bellies opened, eyes gouged, limbs broken...only the horse head is more or less intact.

Female Aasimar Cleric 10 hp 81/83; AC 22, FF 19, T 14; Channel Energy (5d6) [8/10]; Touch of Good [8/9];Agile Feet [9/9];Holy Lance [1/1] Fort: +12, Reflex +10, Will +17; Init +3, Diplomacy +19, Perception +17

Celestra turns to Alana, "I have to give Ailetha credit. Fighting ogres is a lot easier if they simply bash each other! That was an impressive trick!"

Female Changeling(Hulking) Bard/10 (HP: 82/82; AC27; FF23; T14; F+7, R+11, W+7; Perc: +11, Init +10)

Ailetha looks back at the others:
Harry and Karlan, sorry I took all the fun out of ogre bashing.

Female Half-Elf/Human (Bloodline Fey) Sorceress/8

"Quite impressive, indeed."

Male Human Paladin 10| AC 28 T 14 FF 26 | HP 99/99 | F +15 R +10 W +13 | Init +2| REACH

"Not the way I'd have had it done. But I'm here to cleanse the filth. Not judge the performance." Karlan says stepping through the filth to check the room for survivors.

The ogres somehow managed to kill each other without even one survivor - quite an impressive task At least the hollow horse head is now free for taking.

Male Half Orc Rog5 Cav 3: HP:84/84, - AC: 21/T:14/FF:18 - Perception: +12(Dark Vision) F: +6/R: +8/W: +4 - CMB: +11 - CMD: 25, Speed: 30ft, Init: +2 (+4)

"Saved us the hassle. Good job" Harry states, matter of factly.

Harry just pushes forward, looking for the next room that offers him the chance of mayhem and destruction.

Female Aasimar Cleric 10 hp 81/83; AC 22, FF 19, T 14; Channel Energy (5d6) [8/10]; Touch of Good [8/9];Agile Feet [9/9];Holy Lance [1/1] Fort: +12, Reflex +10, Will +17; Init +3, Diplomacy +19, Perception +17

"I wonder if we could start employing that tactic as a standard method of ogre execution?"

Celestra knows that clearly she is not going to convince Harry to stop long enough to search the room, but she quickly scans it to see if there are chests or anything that might quickly prove valuable in their attack on the fort.

Perception: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (12) + 15 = 27

Male Tiefling (Daemon-Spawn) Magus 8 (Fiend Flayer)

Marek moves among the bodies, checking for any signs of a survivor.

That was... impressive, Lady Aurcalam. You are a woman of many talents.

Female Changeling(Hulking) Bard/10 (HP: 82/82; AC27; FF23; T14; F+7, R+11, W+7; Perc: +11, Init +10)

Once the ogres have finished fighting over the horse head, Ailetha sighs:
It is sad that creatures which could be great want nothing more than to fight over a dead horses head and are willing to kill one another for it.

She then casts Detect Magic to see whether there is anything of note.

Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21

Neither chests nor any magic treasures to be found in the room...

Where to next then? Harry, all doors you had marked on your map are open now, but still lots to explore.

Male Half Orc Rog5 Cav 3: HP:84/84, - AC: 21/T:14/FF:18 - Perception: +12(Dark Vision) F: +6/R: +8/W: +4 - CMB: +11 - CMD: 25, Speed: 30ft, Init: +2 (+4)

general outline

Harry maintains moving quietly and carefully, seeking to catch any foes off-guard.

Well, ok, then let's just assume you followed the corridor further

I marked all doors in red - clockwise opening?

The first door you choose leads again to a tower and from there to the battlements. Heavy rain is still falling and in the distance thunder rumbles...

"Get this cleared out first eh? THen tackle the rest of the fortifications"

Harry pushes on to clear out this level first.

Female Aasimar Cleric 10 hp 81/83; AC 22, FF 19, T 14; Channel Energy (5d6) [8/10]; Touch of Good [8/9];Agile Feet [9/9];Holy Lance [1/1] Fort: +12, Reflex +10, Will +17; Init +3, Diplomacy +19, Perception +17

Celestra follows the company near the rear, eager to offer ant help that she can.

Male Human Paladin 10| AC 28 T 14 FF 26 | HP 99/99 | F +15 R +10 W +13 | Init +2| REACH

"Fine, no survivors it is then."

Another door pushed open and only more havoc to be seen - the room must have been an armoury before the ogres attacked, but of the various kinds of leather armours, bows, spears and other weapons, gear and armours not much more than splinters and rags have survived.

Luckily none of the Kreegs or their helpers is here...

Male Half Orc Rog5 Cav 3: HP:84/84, - AC: 21/T:14/FF:18 - Perception: +12(Dark Vision) F: +6/R: +8/W: +4 - CMB: +11 - CMD: 25, Speed: 30ft, Init: +2 (+4)

Female Changeling(Hulking) Bard/10 (HP: 82/82; AC27; FF23; T14; F+7, R+11, W+7; Perc: +11, Init +10)

We search the room for anything of note or value and then quickly move on to the next room.

Where the hell are them?, Marek muses to himself.

Keep pushing West I suppose :)p

Female Changeling(Hulking) Bard/10 (HP: 82/82; AC27; FF23; T14; F+7, R+11, W+7; Perc: +11, Init +10)

Ailetha looks at the others:
Even for creatures as chaotic as ogres, the level of destruction without care is excessive. Remember that Mama's house was a nightmare, but an organized one. I wonder why these brute ogres seem to be acting unusual, even for ogres.

Female Aasimar Cleric 10 hp 81/83; AC 22, FF 19, T 14; Channel Energy (5d6) [8/10]; Touch of Good [8/9];Agile Feet [9/9];Holy Lance [1/1] Fort: +12, Reflex +10, Will +17; Init +3, Diplomacy +19, Perception +17

"Ailetha, my dear. I am no expert on ogres, so please forgive my question, but what is so unusual about destructive ogres? I thought they all acted like a savage brutes."

Female Changeling(Hulking) Bard/10 (HP: 82/82; AC27; FF23; T14; F+7, R+11, W+7; Perc: +11, Init +10)

You saw Mama's house. It was disgusting, but not like this. This is like something is driving these inherently evil creatures to a destructive level far greater than I would expect.

Knowledge: 1d20 ⇒ 16 <-- 28 (+12) Arcana, Planes, Religion; 26(+10) all others
--> Do I know whether this is truly unusual? And if so what might cause such destructivity?

Female Half-Elf/Human (Bloodline Fey) Sorceress/8

Alana speaks up, "With many beasts, when there are but a few the problems are minimal but when too many nest together in one location they become increasingly aggressive. Perhaps it is something similar that is happening here with these ogres?"

Female Aasimar Cleric 10 hp 81/83; AC 22, FF 19, T 14; Channel Energy (5d6) [8/10]; Touch of Good [8/9];Agile Feet [9/9];Holy Lance [1/1] Fort: +12, Reflex +10, Will +17; Init +3, Diplomacy +19, Perception +17

"Well, whatever seems to be uniting these ogres must be awfully powerful. I think it would be easier to herd cats than to bring together such self centered, thick skulled, pea brained monsters!"

Female Half-Elf/Human (Bloodline Fey) Sorceress/8

"Indeed, my love. I should think that they must have someone keeping them together, working them towards a goal or nefarious design."

Female Changeling(Hulking) Bard/10 (HP: 82/82; AC27; FF23; T14; F+7, R+11, W+7; Perc: +11, Init +10)

Ailetha looks to the other two women:
We know what is keeping them together. Didn't the giant tell us of some stone giant? And we know that there are one or two lamia b!tches in the area. But would these cause ogres to come together only to make them more destructive?

Female Half-Elf/Human (Bloodline Fey) Sorceress/8

"If it is destruction that they want."

Female Aasimar Cleric 10 hp 81/83; AC 22, FF 19, T 14; Channel Energy (5d6) [8/10]; Touch of Good [8/9];Agile Feet [9/9];Holy Lance [1/1] Fort: +12, Reflex +10, Will +17; Init +3, Diplomacy +19, Perception +17

"The lamias sound like they have nothing to do with the ogres. It would be nice if we could get them to fight with each other. Then we could all go home and have a drink."

Female Changeling(Hulking) Bard/10 (HP: 82/82; AC27; FF23; T14; F+7, R+11, W+7; Perc: +11, Init +10)

They are all working for, or with, or in support of, this Runelord. This is simply too many similar issues to not be tied together. I would not be surprised to open one of these doors and find the lamia and her gambling sister both within.
