Soliana of the Rose |
"We're not here to take your home, we just needed a place to rest for the night!" Soli calls out as she swings her glaive at the rat menacing Emi.
Attack (Glaive): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Though it's not an especially accurate or powerful swing, Soli is surprised by how easily her weapon skewers the rat - thankfully before it could bite Emi or anyone else.

Vigny Olafursdottir |

Vigny brings her sword around and over her head, then cleaves down on the rat coming at her.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

DM-Salsa |

Something Wicked Will: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Neeeeope. Emi, I'll roll for how long he's out, but if you could, just included that when you cast the spell. Thanks!
does he fall out of the rafters (55 or below): 1d100 ⇒ 15
Fall damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Unconscious: 2d4 ⇒ (2, 3) = 5
Blind: 1d4 ⇒ 2
With a squeak, the ratman falls out of the rafters to the floor with a thud. Vigny bisects the remaining rat as the rain continues to fall outside.
Well, that's it for combat for now. What do you do with the rat-thing?

Jerukh Hörnungr |

Jerukh composes himself and pockets the flask he was holding with a frustrated look.
He then approaches the fallen rat-man;
"Do we have rope to bind it? The creature thought we were stealing the house..."

Emiliana Vasilescu |

without knowing the enemy's hit dice I have no idea if/what to roll...
Emi lays back down and wraps one of her scarves back around her face. "If that horrid thing can vork magic tying it up may not be enough..." she murmurs.

DM-Salsa |

One thing to note, this thing is Tiny. Also, anyone want to roll a Knowledge(Arcana) check?

DM-Salsa |

Guess everyone's busy.
"Do ve vhat et alive? Hy could make sure et never casts again," Gkirkhan asks, readying his sword to stab the foul little creature.
It's out for 30 seconds and dazed for another 12. You could coup de grace it with non-lethal to try and keep it under.

Jerukh Hörnungr |

Non lethal coup de grace would make sense...
Jerukh eyes the tiny creature with a degree of distaste and pity;
"We should let it talk... once we are sure it can do no more harm..."
He nods toward the other half orc;
"Please. Knock it deeper into unconsciousness. It may know things."

DM-Salsa |

Gkirkhan shrugs and move to thump the ratman soundly on the back of the head. It gives a squeak before falling deeper into unconsciousness.
"So vhat now," he asks.

Vigny Olafursdottir |

Sorry, it's been a hectic few days!
Vigny frowns as she looks at the nasty little thing.
"I'm not so sure we shouldn't have just skewered it and been done with the whole thing."

DM-Salsa |

"Ve still could. Rat's not so bad vhen hyu get past the gaminess," Gkirkhan says with another shrug.
Do you want to move on to the next morning when the Ratman wakes up?

Reiko Mura |

Reluctantly, Reiko pulls a long length of fine silk rope from her pack and binds the creature's arms tightly behind its back and ties up its legs for good measure.
She glares at the ratman ominously. "This rope comes from home. If he ruins it, he dies poorly."
DC:24 for it to escape, STR DC:23 to burst it.

DM-Salsa |

And if nothing else, you can use some of the cords from the tents Gkirkhan and Iona have.

DM-Salsa |

The rest of the night passes without incident, though those that take the watch notice Gkirkhan does not sleep and that he watches through the night with glowing red eyes from underneath his hat.
Thankfully, all of you have time to get up and prepare some breakfast before the ratman wakes. He struggles for a moment in his bindings before looking at you with hate filled eyes and hisses at you.
"Release me! Release me and I will spare your souls," he spits in fury.
Anyone want to roll some dice? Talk to the varmint? Turn him into a nice, cozy slipper?

Vigny Olafursdottir |

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Going to assume that's good enough to be sure he's lying.
Vigny smirks at the ratman. "Nice one. But anyway, shut up until after we've eaten, and then tell us all about the swamp around here, and I won't gut you before I untie you."
Intimidate: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

Soliana of the Rose |
"Oh, Vigny...haven't you heard the saying about catching more flies with honey?" Soli whispers to the Ulfen woman. "Hopefully your way will work but I don't know...you look too nice to really want to gut anyone like that!"
As always, feel free to tell Soli to shut up if she says something ridiculous or potentially insulting! Also we each regained 2 HPs overnight, right?

DM-Salsa |

Yep. Everyone gets 2 hp back, except Iona and Gkirkhan who get 10 and 12 back respectively.
'Swamp's bad place. Eats you wholes it wills," the ratman sneers at Vigny before turning his attention to Iona, "alreadies eatses her wholes. Alreadies begins."
Yup, he's lying. He has no intention of not harming you after this given the froth and fury he's spitting.

Reiko Mura |

My mistake. I must have been in a turkey coma when Soli mentioned the rope. FWIW I'm not bothered by the rat eating through the silk rope, but Reiko would be. :)
Reiko sits in seiza across from the ratman. She cocks her head curiously at Soli, "Why would we wish to catch flies?" Belying the innocent question, the katana rasps from its scabbard. Reiko aligns it between the ratman and herself, the long keen edge facing the little creature and the tsuka (handle) within easy reach of her hand. She turns her attention to the creature and smiles.
Not trying to intimidate the little beastie yet, just trying to make him worry.

Vigny Olafursdottir |

Vigny shrugs at Soli and between bites replies "Really I just wanted him to shut up while we're eating. I don't figure he has anything worthwhile to tell us. He looks quite stupid, and I figure he's a complete homebody."

Emiliana Vasilescu |

"Eww, vhat is that thing?" Emi asks sitting down and beginning to brush her hair, "I think I had a nightmare about something like that last night. If no vun cares if it dies vhy doesn't somevun just kill it? I'fe heard that rat meat isn't that bad vunce you get past the gaminess... vith extra mouths to feed it be good to hafe?"

Jerukh Hörnungr |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Jerukh crouches and attempts to talk back to the belligerent little creature;
"Does little rat have a name? If Megus dead then why do the others of the swamp not come here?"

DM-Salsa |

The ratman snarls at Vigny's insults and spittle flies from its mouth as it howls.
"Skitterfoot is nots stupidses! Skitterfoot know how to readses scrolls in secret stashes! Skitterfoot scare stupid goblinses away. Rats eated the others." it spits out in another wave of bluster and fury. Perhaps not the wisest move given the talk of rat eating going about.

Vigny Olafursdottir |

Again between mouthfuls of breakfast, Vigny continues her commentary to Soli on the little beast.
"See? While tied up, and knowing the person with a bunch of weapons wants him to shut up, he doesn't. Stupid."
@Salsa: Nope just a busy start to the week.

Soliana of the Rose |
Same, worked yesterday and today was errand day and then I had to have a nap hehe.
Soli sighs quietly. Vigny was right, it sure didn't look as if Skitterfoot was going to be especially cooperative or informative. But at the mention of how he scared away the goblins, she does have a curious thought.
"What about the River Monster? Have you scared it away too?"
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Jerukh Hörnungr |

Same - work has kicked into overdrive!
Jerukh allows Soliana to question the strange rodent-man, before adding;
"What scrolls does Skitterfoot speak of? Secret stashes?"

DM-Salsa |

And with Jerukh's mention of the scrolls, Skitterfoot finally shuts up.
Sense Motive DC 5: 1d6d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 2, 6, 5) = 24
Care to try your luck getting some more out of him?

Vigny Olafursdottir |

I can't fail the sense motive roll.
"You've already brought up the scrolls Skitterfoot. No point in clamming up now. We know about them and we'll look for them until we find them. Might have to tear the house apart to do it, but we will. So, you can tell us where they are and still have a house. Or, you can not say anything and end up without the scrolls or a house."
Vigny shrugs at the little monster. "That's all there is. It might sound harsh, but you were going to murder us in our sleep. Don't bother trying to talk your way out of it, or beg us to leave them. It will just waste everyone's time.

Emiliana Vasilescu |

In surprise, Emi almost blurts out a question about 'vhy ve vould leafe it here' but manages to hold her tongue. Instead she waits to see if Vigny can get anywhere with her interrogation.

DM-Salsa |

"Scrollses? Skitterfoot said nothings about scrollses," the ratman says nervously, "maybes blonde one is lacking brainses as well as bosom."
Sorry if I got that wrong, just going off the picture, Vigny.
Gkirkhan just covers his head with his hand and mutters under his breath.
"Ho boy."

Soliana of the Rose |
"I'm starting to see Vigny's point," Soli muses as she stares at the ratman. "For someone that claims to be as smart as you do, you're pretty terrible at not insulting the people that have you as a prisoner," she says with a shake of her head.
Then, her expression changes to one of sadness and regret - it's a surprising look for the normally sunny young woman. "She's also right that you were going to murder us in our sleep and would probably do the same to anyone else that might pass through here. If you're unwilling to change your ways, then we can't...can't just leave you free to hurt others..."
She glances at the others, trying to gauge whether they're coming to the same conclusion that she is.

Vigny Olafursdottir |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

They might be on the small side of average, but they're extraordinarily perky. :p
"Oh, Oh, Ouch!" Vigny scoffs.
"Maybe a leash is a good idea. He can go first, he already looks like bait anyway." she says looking over at Emiliana.
"So, where to start. I guess drawers, cubbies, anywhere that looks like a hiding place, or might have a hidden opening or false bottom. If that doesn't turn them up, the wall planking next, then the floor planks. Just remember to not remove any weight bearing beams until the very end, if we have to go that far."

DM-Salsa |

Considering Megus was on the matronly side, that'd be small enough to qualify as "none" for Skitterfoot.
"There's no scrollses! No! Skitterfoot has no scrollses in the b*$!*'s playroom," the ratfolk says even more frantically now. "No Scrollses and Skittefoot only hurtses those that deserves it!"
"Hy tink hyu are vasting hyur breath vit dis vun, Mizz Soli. Dis vun iz half mad if he tinks he can fool us vit dot lie," Gkirkhan says, one had already around the hilt of his sword.

Emiliana Vasilescu |

"Don't vorry, Figny," Emi offers cheerily, "there are some men who prefer smaller breasts... I mean, not the men who hafe been interested in me, obfiously, but from vhat I hafe heard it's not too uncommon."
