Heading home tomorrow, Sunday, around noon. If we don't have FIOS back I won't be able to post till Wednesday morning when I get back to the campground.
@Anna - If you can hold off being induced for 4 days, it will be my birthday! (July 20th)... Just Kidding!
Alikia Sokol |
@ Aladir: This baby is not even born yet and she already has Ezro wrapped around her finger.
@DM Papa: I will see what I can do, but baby's typically set their own schedule, much to Ezro's displeasure! (He likes to plan things out, and it is driving him crazy that he cannot make an exact plan for when I will go into labor or what time or day that will be)
DM Papa.DRB |
@Anna - Yea, know about baby having their own schedule. Our youngest, a girl, (now 40) did false labor on October 1st 1977, then stopped and finally came October 29th.
Anyway, best to you and hubby. Kids are wonderful! Especially after they grow up and give you grand kids......

While I was looking up for a place to point to Aladir for my interpretation of mythic haste, it appears that this is up to DM interpretation.
From this discussion: found here it appears that you would be able to make a full round action and then move.
However from this discussion: found here you would not.
However since both discussion do not have an "official ruling" by a game developer, nor is there an faq out on this subject, it would be up for DM Papa to make the judgement.
My argument for a full attack after the move action: I had to spend a mythic point, and a mythic feat to allow everyone an additional move action, what other purpose would there be to have a potential of two move actions and one standard action in a round if not to allow someone to move and then full attack?
DM Papa.DRB |
Got home Sunday, still no Fios. Verizon came out today and replaced the dead outside unit, inside power unit and the router. Got Fios back. At the camground now. Will have a post out Thursday morning.
@Alikia - move action, then full attack options sounds good to me.

Quinn, Ezro, Alikia?
I can't (won't) bot three.
Quinn, you last post was 8 May, almost a month ago. I understand that you are quite busy with work, etc. Will the busyness end soon? We are nearing the end of the third book, with the same original five players and I would really like to finish out this AP with the same group. Please advise.

DM Papa.DRB |
One month ago today, Quinn made his last post. I really wanted to complete this campaign with the same five folks that started, however that seems to not be the situation now.
I can bot him thru this encounter (Arueshalae Redoubt) and even thru the final major area of this chapter. Then it would be back to Drezen and he could give up his mythic ability and join the Queens' retinue and we could bring in another paladin (and yes, I would require a paladin) to take his place.
Let me know your thoughts.

Alikia Sokol |
As sad as it is to see Quinn depart, I agree. If we start book 4 with a new player/paladin, I think it will work better than the current situation.
DM Papa.DRB |
@Hyram - Please roll your damage. You hit with your first attack.
@All - FYI, the numbers next to the Foe is the page number in the book for their stats. I use only PDFs so needing to flip back in forth is painful and having the page number handy helps. Open the spoiler to see the creature information. That is why I put it there.
Hyram Grimstalk |
I agree. Quinn has done an excellent job RP'ing this adventure and I would loathe to see him go, but it does seem this AP is built around having the paladin as its 'star' so to bot the star won't make much sense. Hopefully his work load allows him to continue, but if not we would need a replacement.
@DM Papa.DRB: Kinda of reminds me of when we lost our king in your Kingmaker campaign.
DM Papa.DRB |
@Hyram - Dang, had to look up my notes from past campaigns. That campaign died with an almost TPK at the end of the 3rd book, in December 2012.
You (Kabal, druid), your bear companion (Darro), Ilene (Astrella, rogue?), Alfred (Greenbow, ranger), Bob (Crispin, wizard). I think it was Greenbow & Crispin that got away, barely alive, and with so many character changes before that, we decided to call it quits. That was also the time when I threw Neil out of the group for being nasty to you especially, but also in general.
I don't quite remember why Chaz (paladin/cavalier) left, but wasn't it something to do with his wife?

Aladir Cyruthion |
Hopefully, by the time we continue a little further, Quinn will have a chance to at least pop in and make his wishes known.
Regardless, I agree that a replacement for Quinn needs to be found if we starts gone. Maybe once we hit the end of the book we can just insert some kind of ritual or ceremony to transfer his mythic power to a new wielder.
Also, DRB, just to get clarification before I post my actions...since Aladir is under Greater Invisiblity, will he get sneak attack damage on each attack in a full attack action, or just the first? I've seen arguments for either.

I have always played it as sneak attack for all attacks while under greater invisibility.

Something like that! I also remember Chris and Jake dropping in for a month.
DM Papa.DRB |
Apologies. Did not mean to disappear for a week, but between doctor appointments for me, extra shifts at the hospital, and yesterday (June 14th) was my wifes birthday, time just slipped away. I will have a post out this afternoon, moving the game forward.
Also, for those that do not know or guessed; Hyram aka Briccone aka Richie and I live about 15(?) miles from each other and for many years he played or DM'd at my house on Sunday evening, till the group broke up almost two years ago now.
Chris is my son, and Jake is my grandson (he's 24 *sigh*).

Happy Belated Birthday to Nana and Aladir!
An interesting side note. It was David's son Chris that got me started in RPGs. It was about 2001 and David was going to run Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil and they were short a player. Chris asked me if I would be interested and I said sure. This was my first exposure to the D&D world. Chris and his friend Pete (who was also in the group) helped me create my rogue named Briccone whose weapon of choice was a crowbar.
Things went well until David had a dragon eat poor Briccone and then to top it off, David had an evil mage raise Briccone from the dead and attack the party!
DM Papa.DRB |
Heh... That taught you (mostly) to not leave the group and go off by yourself. Also, even though I don't think I ever told you, the dagger that they found contained the essence of Briccone and reported back to the evil mage so that he knew all about the groups plans....
I was a real bastard back then...

Yeah, that was birthday number 35 for me. I don't know if you've ever said how old you and your wife are, but I know you've mentioned grandkids, so I'm gonna assume you're a bit further along than I am!
Game-related question: As crowded as that corridor is, can Aladir get to the range of point-blank shot in a single move action?
Alikia Sokol |
I suppose that makes Ezro and I the younglings of this group! Zach (Ezro) turns 30 in November, and I turn 30 in January.
Zach and I met in college where he proceeded to attempt to kill my character for a semester (we were doing a survival campaign based off of a 40k universe utilizing the d20 modern system).
Aladir Cyruthion |
One of my most memorable tabletop moments was when I first started gaming in college. Had a druid in 3.0 with a party that was about 7th level that ended up coming across a balor. None of us knew what we were doing so we tried attacking it.
After it killed two people in the party in its first round, we all decided to fall back, and my druid went all noble and tried to stab the balor to distract it long enough to let the other two party members get away.
My attack roll was a natural 20, followed by another natural 20 to confirm. This GM had a houserule of three straight nat-20s was insta-kill on anything, so I rolled again and actually pulled it off. Killed the balor in one hit, then got killed by i its death explosion.
The GM thought it was so awesome he had the character's goddess reincarnate him as a centaur with no level loss.
On a more game-related note, I'll hold off posting for a bit to see if Ezro will be able to give me the room. Or, well...since I'm invisible, I'd still get sneak attack even outside of 30 feet, wouldn't I?
DM Papa.DRB |
@Alikia & Ezro - I met Carol when I was a freshman in college and she was a junior in high school, on a blind date. It was May 1966. (So many memories)
@Aladir -
Ranged attacks can count as sneak attacks only if the target is within 30 feet.
so Nope, no sneak attack outside of thirty foot mark.
Aladir Cyruthion |
I was trying to wait and let Ezro post first and see if he would inch over so Aladir could step up and get sneak attack; I can go ahead and post that attack in you want me to, since that would be a free move on Ezro's part anyway.
DM Papa.DRB |
Tomorrow is US Independence Day. Wife and I are going to be attend an all day event and James Taylor concert at Tanglewood (LINK).
No further posts till Thursday.
Aladir, Ezro, Quinn(bot)?
Hyram - You failed your save, a 1 is a 1 is a 1.....
Ezro Lindran |
Sorry been on vacation and the game slipped my mind! I have posted a little health top off for Hyram. Also, is the little yellow box a pit on the map?
Aladir Cyruthion |
Huzzah for new mythic tier!
Mythic Tier: Trickster +1 (Total: 4)
Ability Score: +2 Dexterity
Path Ability: Path Dabbler (Fleet Warrior)
DRB, do you allow retraining? If so I'd like to retrain my Slow Reactions rogue talent to a second Combat Trick and pick up Snap Shot.
Aladir Cyruthion |
Sending prayers for a safe delivery and a healthy baby and mother! Aladir will have plenty of time to retrain that feat now, for sure. ;)
Thanks for that, by the way, DRB! It's appreciated much. I misspoke in my last message; it wasn't Combat Trick, it was just a Bonus Feat. Either way, it still got me access to Snap Shot, so it's all good!
My profile has been updated to reflect these changes.
DM Papa.DRB |
Great name. So happy for you folks.

Game stuff:
Everyone level up to character level 11. Everyone except Alikia is mythic tier 4; she is still mythic tier 3.
I am going to hold off moving the game forward for at least one week, probably two weeks to allow the new parents to get the baby home and settle in a bit before starting up again. At that time I will also advertise for a paladin to replace Quinn. You have finished the redoubt area; that last critter is toast just from arrows; so the next and final area will be the last, and then RP and then on to Chapter 4.
edit: I have another game that for other reasons am having to hold off moving it forward till 23rd July, so lets use that as the date to move this game along also. That gives youse guys a two week break from today.
Aladir Cyruthion |
That's awesome! I'm very excited for both of you! My wife and I have no children yet but we're both looking forward a time in the future when she'll be out of nursing school and we'll be able to start a family of our own.
Congratulations again, to all three of you! Welcome to the world, Elizabeth!

I live! (It only took me 4 days after coming home to feel like turning on my computer to re-check this thread.) Here is a link of our baby just a little over 12 hours old!
