I don't believe in democracy. It leads to silly things like government shut downs.
That's not an automatic feature of democracy.
In the future, I like to see language like, "I go do _____".
When I see suggestive language like "We Should" or "Let's", I tend to assume things are still up for discussion.
Duly noted.

The winds around here are indicating a change of policy regarding my personal laptop that I generally post from, so I expect my time on the forums to be greatly curtailed - probably mid-day and evenings will be what I have.
Firiel, feel free to bot me to keep the halfling invasion moving forward if you need to. I expect to be back on tonight.

Randall Quickstep |

Nothing official. Yet. So I am hoping that if I make it less obvious, it won't become official. It's been tacitly allowed so far because the job is getting done. If I put it away at least part of the day, the job gets done better and they have nothing to complain about.
Or that's my theory.
By the way, how's the recovery progress from your perspective around Estes Park and Rocky?

Jametor Darksbane |

Luckily my work allows me access to the paizo website. Oddly enough they block every other gaming website.
If they block it, I have a tablet and a phone.

Randall Quickstep |

Haven't been up there recently, so not really sure.
I heard there was a temporary road between Lyons and Estes Park now. I'm sure it will be a while before permanent fixes are in, but I'm encouraged - lots of hard work going on, I'm sure.

Antal Hyrgan |

Sorry for the delay, on my end, folks. It's gotten real rough at home and work hours have been increased greatly. I'm gonna be catching up tomorrow and get right back on track.

Jametor Darksbane |

27 to hit, not sure I could ever...wait If I rolled a 20, with a bonus +1...
nice work team halfling (doesn't that seem to work better in lowercase?)

Randall Quickstep |

That's a height joke, isn't it? You're making fun of our combined height being less than yours, aren't you, HighPockets? I used capitals so you would appreciate it. ;-)
We might need all three halflings to get a height to match either of our big'uns.

Jametor Darksbane |

Yes, it was a height joke..or lack thereof. ;0
I kinda see the group walk in to a room with bad guys and they see a furry one and a slight elf. No one thinks to look down until they feel a dagger in their thigh.

Randall Quickstep |

Hey, we're professionals here. No need to make them suffer - if they aren't paying attention to us at all, we will make it quick - now what's that artery along the inner thigh called again? They really didn't emphasize book learning in the back alleys where we practiced dissection. Firiel probably knows - she's had schooling.

Jametor Darksbane |

No worries, I sorta delayed some things by going to bed early and asking questions...
By the way, I switched the burning hands to ice because I am not sure we wanted to burn the place to the ground...right now.

Jametor Darksbane |

True, and that's one of the reasons I went admixture. Plus if we run into a mob with fire resistance, I am not a useless person.
Hoping the thugs fail their reflex save, 15 pts on 3 thugs would be nice. Plus I just pissed off three thugs...yeah. um..
17 AC only goes so far. I think I should probably go levitate next round..then get out of dodge and start raining arrows down.

Randall Quickstep |

Indeed I am happy to hear that. I'm wearing my Mountain Strong shirt as I type this. I felt terrible being there and really not able to do more than stay out of the way.
We'll be back soon to see for ourselves, but I appreciate the report.

Njord Bjornson |

Firiel can take the ring but she has to protect poor Njord.

Njord Bjornson |

Protect me! I'm so fragile and soft. =(

Randall Quickstep |

I can't afford to go deeper in debt to the rest of the party, can I? I would indeed be interested in the dagger/short sword, but I think I need to put something else back into the kitty to be sold or used by another party member.
What do you think?

Randall Quickstep |

Of course, I don't have weapon finesse yet, so the dagger would not benefit me until I got the next feat, which could be next level. If Firiel is still interested the Outflank teamwork feat, I can't take it until 6th, anyway, so that would likely be my next feat. She could take it at 7th, also, I believe, whether she takes all sorcerer levels or mixes in a rogue level between now and then.

Njord Bjornson |

Being more in debt shouldn’t be a problem. It’ll be a while before we do another big payout.

Fíriel Goldworthy |

DM, how far are we from payout? Edit: well, the wereninja answered that.
It doesn't make much sense to sell the dagger, even if Randall can't benefit from it quite yet... and we should get at least a couple of thousand from the next payout, I think, so you'd still be in debt but probably not too badly. And Fíriel could probably give you a loan if needed.

Randall Quickstep |

OK, I will accept the dagger assuming no one else wishes to claim it. I'm fine with the drugs (and the building) being returned to Boss Croat, but I'd like to make sure we searched the building thoroughly first. Especially any space that looks like it was personal to Siven.

Jametor Darksbane |

Off topic some.
I am looking to buy a couple of APs. I have Runelords Anniversary Edition, Skulls and Shackles and I am an AP Subscriber so I have both Reign of Winter and the new one, at leas the ones released. BUT, I am finding that most of my playing is done online here or on a blog play by post. So I am thinking of dropping my AP subscription and just buying the PDFs. I was just wondering what you folks think might be good APs to grab?
Basically, I'd like to collect a couple APs and store them until later (in PDF form) and come back to them later. Obviously, I've sorta followed along in the S&S AP, and I've started both Reign of Winter and Kingmaker before the GM wandered off. I am in this AP and a Rise of Runelords campaign.
Just thinking I should grab a couple of the APs before I lose my Advantage when I cancel my subs.

Njord Bjornson |

Well what do you foresee yourself being interested in DMing? Alternatively, what do you foresee yourself being interested in sponsoring a DM to run for you? =P

Fíriel Goldworthy |

You could run RoW for us. :P
Oh, you were actually asking what APs to buy? I'd echo Njord's questions... I think it depends a lot on your tastes.

Jametor Darksbane |

I would like to run/DM S&S. I really hope the Runelords campaign keeps going, I really want to get my little ranger through levels and adventures.
I am interested in Carrion Crown and to be honest a stretch for me would be to take an evil guy through Wrath of the Righteous. I have a feeling, just reading the blurbs on the new one (Wrath of the Righteous, I think) that would be awesome to take my paladin idea through. I am sorta piecemealing together some modules to run my longtime online friends through. I am really hoping GMing goes well there, then I might be able to start something here.
Maybe I should start by running a few modules? Also, I have no problem helping fund a DM too. To be honest I am thinking of selling off my Reign of Winter and Wrath books, since I plan on going mostly PDF.
Kingmaker seems like a great AP to build a group of friends and maybe run it really long term, as I said, I've got through..no combat there. heh. But I could see a group of people who really like playing together doing that for a long time. Maybe even switching up the GM roles and rerunning or something.
I think I'd put Jade Regent as another I'd be interested in.
ETA: I guess maybe I should also explain my character ideas. I started a homebrew (demon hunter type campaign) with an inquisitor idea that I really liked. I want to play a paladin and see if I can keep him from being lawful stupid or not. I love LOVE rangers, was my first character in AD&D and love that class, even though it's changed, played a hunter in WOW and a Bounty Hunter in TOR and a ranger in LOTRO... I'd really like to play some big dumb fighter/barbarian, who is like Mongo in Blazing Saddles, just carefree and all. Not high RP so much, maybe that's better for a module, I am not sure a GM is going to pick that character when everyone else is rolling up these great characters. While I like the wizard, I think I am more of a martial character, maybe one with various spellcasting abilities (see paladin, ranger, inquisitor). I was really hoping to jump into a We Be Goblins run through, but I have both those already. I am so new to Pathfinder and most of my experience is in a rules "light" homebrew, so perhaps I don't really know what I am interested in. And not sure how much to read in each of the APs to not spoil the fun.

Asht'el |

Hey everyone! I have been invited by Oladon and Feral to join this game, and I look forward to diving in with you all. I'll be bringing an Ifrit sorcerer, a refugee from a self-inflicted disaster in Katapesh, who I created for the original recruitment thread a while back. Bringing his crunch up to 4th level is still in progress, but here's his story, for any who are interested:
“I didn’t know it would burn. I knew the workers kept the room dark, even in the daytime, but I didn’t know it was because the worms and their cocoons would burn so fast and so hot.”
These were the first words Asht’el spoke to Gilman, when he found Asht’el huddled amidst the cargo in the hold of the Riddler. The cabin boy was so startled by Asht’el’s strange words and unusual appearance that he didn’t think to call out that there was a stowaway on board. “What are you talking about? Did you have something to do with that big fire back in Katapesh?”
Asht’el continued on, as if he hadn’t heard the question, “I didn’t know it would burn. I knew the workers kept the room dark, even in the daytime, but I didn’t know it was because the worms and their cocoons would burn so fast and so hot.”
“I just wanted a place where I could be alone and play with my fire, and think what to do. I knew my father would hate me and throw me out if he knew about my taint. And the silkworms’ room was dark and quiet all the time, and the workers only went in there in the mornings, to feed the worms and harvest the cocoons. I wasn’t supposed to be in there, but I could usually slip in, and when I learned to shrink myself, it was easy to get in and out.”
Gilman replied, “I don’t know if you’re mad or magical, but I haven’t time to dally. Cap’n sent me for a bottle of the Taldan red, and I’m to fetch it quick. You stay here and stay quiet, and I’ll be back, see if I can’t bring you some leavin’s from supper.”
True to his word, Gilman returned with a small bundle of food and a jug of water for the ravenous Katapeshi youth. As he ate, Asht’el’s coppery-red hair glinted, almost sparking, even in the dim light of the hold, and his dark, dark eyes somehow seemed to have a faint luminosity to them.
Still shakey, but with his hunger slaked somewhat, Asht’el took a deep breath and said, “I must not have been making much sense a bit ago. Let me try again. My name is Asht’el, and my father is - or was, really - a silk merchant. We have – well, had – a large room on the top of our house where the silkworms lived and grew and spun their cocoons. And I destroyed it all last night. But the story starts before that.”
“I haven’t told anyone this, I don’t even know why I’m telling you, except that you helped me, and I can’t stop myself. A few years ago, I started noticing changes - changes in me, in who I am. I always thought I was human, like my parents. But I began to be able to do things, mostly things with fire at first. And my hair changed from brown to red, though not so red as you see it now, and my skin began to redden also. My parents only saw the physical changes, and somehow thought it was a part of my growing to be a man. But I knew about all the changes, and feared I was growing away from men.”
“When I was young, my father used to say that I must do as I was told, or an efreeti would come from the desert and get me. He told me of the efreet’s fiery ways, and strong sense of what was right and wrong, and I feared them, and tried to obey my father. When my…powers appeared, they all seemed to match with the stories of the efreet – making fire, changing my size, controlling strange magics. I wondered, Is this how the efreet come to get me? Not by hurting or killing me, but by taking me over, making me one of them?
“This scared me, as I wanted to be me, and live my life – and I knew my father used the efreet as a threat because he hated and feared them. He was a good man, though a strict and law-abiding one, and I feared how he would react to the changes in his son. But at the same time, I loved the feeling of using my powers. I would sneak away to my secret spots and practice making flame from my fingers, and later, as my powers grew, making myself as big as an ogre or as small as a child. I was almost caught once or twice, but I could usually bluff or bully my way out of things with the servants. And I couldn’t stop. When I made a flame dance in my hands, my blood would sing for the joy of it and I felt I was my true self.”
“To make an already long story shorter – last night I crept into the silkworm room, to practice...well, really, to play with fire. I didn’t know it would all catch on fire so easily. I wanted to see how large a stream of fire I could make in my hands. A rack of cocoons caught fire. It spread so fast, to the other cocoons, to the whole room, to the rest of the house. I stood in the fire for a moment, transfixed and unharmed, then ran from the room, down the stairs and through the long halls of my family home as it burned. One of the halls held a long mirror, and as I ran by, I saw I had changed in an instant, that the fire had somehow ignited the efreeti blood in me. I stopped and looked, amazed at what I saw. My hair was already red, but now it was as you see it, this dark coppery red, and it glints like a burning ember and occasionally flickers with licks of flame. My eyes darkened to almost black, and my ears took on these points you see.”
“The fire destroyed my family's business, and my mother and several of the servants could not be rescued. When I got outside my father saw me, and knew me for what I was. He cursed me and said I had destroyed everything, ruining the family and killing my own mother. He said I was no son of his, and raised his fists to strike me. As he did so the city watch arrived in a hurry, trying to organize the fire-fighting and asking where and how the fire had started. When I saw my father run towards them to tell them it was all my doing, I fled into the night.”
“I knew I had to leave Katapesh. I also knew that the ships that carry my father’s silk leave at first light, to catch the night breezes, before the sands of the desert grow hot with the sun and the wind shifts on-shore. I managed to sneak aboard while the crew all watched the flicker and glow of the fire in the city. So the disaster that killed my mother and ruined my father at least allowed me to stow away on your ship. Where I woke to find myself surrounded by crates of my father’s best silk, bound for who knows where. And speaking of that – where is the ship going?”
Asht’el learned that the ship was bound ultimately for Riddleport, its home port, with intermediate stops along the way. And after hearing this improbable, incredible, but clearly true, tale, Gilman was taken by the troubled but charming young man, and invited him to come to Riddleport. He offered to speak to the first mate on Asht’el’s behalf, securing him some sort of menial job on the Riddler in exchange for passage, but warned him not to play with fire on the ship, for sailors fear nothing more. Asht’el had no better plan in mind than to get far from Katapesh, and few places could be farther than Riddleport, so he accepted Gilman’s generosity.
Asht’el proved to be no sailor, but he did not burn the ship to the waterline either. When they arrived in Riddleport, Gilman introduced his new friend to his family and some friends before setting sail once again. That was almost a year ago, and Asht’el has found a new life of sorts in the rough-and-tumble world of Riddleport. His exotic air and ability to intimidate others, as well as his fire powers, make him useful to certain people in Riddleport. He has taken to working as a guard for some of the more well-to-do establishments in the city, complementing the sheer muscle of their armed guards with a touch of magical menace. It is not the life he expected for himself, however, and he dreams of doing something more worthwhile, to undo some of the harm he has done in this world.
My typical characters sound a lot like what Jametor described in his post above (rangers, inquisitors, rogues, the occasional bard), so this whole sorcerer thing is pretty new to me. Any suggestions, input, spell or feat recommendations would be welcomed.
I've read about a quarter of the gameplay thread, and it looks like you guys have a lot of fun together. I'm looking forward to joining in on it. See you all around Riddleport!

Antal Hyrgan |

Hey, I am divine, thank you very much! :p Besides, sorcerers don't count as arcane. They qualify in the strange category. :) Sorta like Antal with less dying.

Asht'el |

so many arcane users....
/weep
I want to be careful not to step on Jametor's toes, mechanically or thematically, particularly in terms of spells we cast. Reading the gameplay thread, you seem to do a lot of summoning, and I'm happy to stay away from that. Of course, looking at the spells memorized in your alias, it's almost all scorching ray and burning hands at the moment, and I see your Magical Lineage spell is fireball, so there may be some pyromaniacal overlap between the two of us.
But Asht'el can change any energy spell into a fire spell, so I could even skip fireball entirely and re-flavor lightning bolt into a river of fire that flows from my fingers.
So, if you're up for it, let's talk about spells/schools and how not to overlap too much in play. Asht'el really knows very little about magic - he just does it - and he'll be fascinated to try to learn about it from Jametor, which will give us ample basis to be discussing spells, if we need an IC way to handle it.

Jametor Darksbane |

Jametor switched from summoning to blasting after the first few fights, I think about when we leveled to 3.
There's no real reason to have you change your vision, plus as a sorc you can always just adjust on the fly. Jametor is going to try to get as many spells as possible in his spellbook, mostly because he's a know it all. But, now with two sorc folks, he can put them in scroll form and increase you and Firiel's spell casting.
For the AOE blasting, I usually try to position myself to not get any other PC in the blast, or just use more single target types. I think we need to have some buffs and Fly (when available) ready to go. As we level it's probably a good idea that we make sure to have the capstone spells of each level covered. May just be that we have them in my spellbook so we can make scrolls, I don't know.

Asht'el |

I wasn't really thinking of any radical revision of the character - but as a sorcerer, I have very few spells I know. I didn't want to pick a whole bunch of fire spells if that's what you tend to use. Character-wise, Asht'el could be just as likely to shy away from fire spells, since he accidentally destroyed his family's home and business with his fire magic - though he'd likely convert some of his energy spells to fire in a pinch, since it's so much a part of him.
Anyway, I'll pick some spells, throw up an alias and we can discuss. I agree about needing some buffs, and I'll consider some battlefield control stuff, if you're doing less of that now.
