DM Darkblade Giantslayer Campaign (Inactive)

Game Master GM Darkblade

The Giantslayer Adventure Path begins in the fortified town of Trunau in the southern part of the Hold of Belkzen. A series of strange events trouble the beleaguered town. At the town’s request, the PCs must uncover the source behind these events and step in to save the town from forces which seek an end to Trunau and it's peoples.

I think I'm going to withdraw my interest. Have fun, the rest of you!

@ I can go with the gunslinger expat mentor, question of note. Anything wrong with my application that I am not seeing (I know gunslinger is a little bit out there but not like say an android)?

Interesting.

How do you feel about an ifrit kineticist and his oracle/paladin wife?

I would have to read over the backstory and see how it grabs me? As per another pair that wished to join, what would happen if one of the partners were to fall in combat? What would it mean for the PbP?

Seth86 wrote:

okay, how is this:

The town was hit by a very bad disease. Almost to a point where it would have killed the town. Him, having been hiding from the world in the under dark of the town, knew that if the town perished, he would be in serious trouble. So, being what he is, and what he does, he offered his blood and his skills, and together he managed to help fend of the plague, and help create an antidote or atleast a way for the town to fend of the plague till it ran it's course with little to no casualties?

Write it up in his backstory and I will take a look at it. Remember being first level there is not a lot one can do to save the whole town.

I would like to submit Slate Fledspar for your consideration. The point buy is 5 off and the character sheet is not set ip exact yet. I will work on it over the next couple of days. Any suggestions for the character would be great!

Might take Nic's name off the character sheet, ;)

Looks good, I have added him to the list.

If you have posted a sheet but not asked for comment or clarification, I have been looking them over and they are added to the list. I will post an updated list likely on Thursday for everyone to make sure they have not been missed.

Thinking a Chaotic Good Swashbuckler. He is to be an Azata-Blooded (Musetouched) Aasimar as far as mechanics are concerned, but fluff-wise he will be a noble-born elf with enough celestial blood in his ancestry to basically make him an elven aasimar (as per the Non-Human Aasimars entry in the Blood of Angels supplement, page 4).

Shi'Vatha wrote:
EDIT : Before I can rebuild Shi, I need to know how you want to handle stats. Previous GM ruled that as a PC, he figures his stats like a PC does (stat buy + Racial bonuses), so take all stats, subtract 10 or 11 (even or odd) and that's the racial stats for an Eidelon of his form. I'll also need to download the players guide and look it over for tweaks to his build to fit the theme better. Currently he's set up to be a sneaky scout (eventually picking up some levels of rogue) skill monkey.

Go ahead and stat up as mentioned. I am not yet saying yay or nay but it should give you a place to start. Think over how much meta knowledge about the town Shi would/should have and include the reasons for such in your backstory.

Groin Ironhouse wrote:
Using your template I see Hero Points. Will you be using them in this game?

I am leaning towards including them yes, but will allow that to be determined by the players selected, some people may not be familiar or comfortable with their use.

Campaign Trait: Artifact Hunter

Interesting, the catfolk in my Wrath game is a Harrower Bard.

Rhiannon Mableanbh wrote:

Presenting Rhiannon Mableanbh, human Bard, resident of Trunau, and kind of playing a lot of the Celtic imagery the player's guide implies to the hilt. She's currently specced to slightly different build rules, but it's a quick fix to adapt her if she gets chosen, as is adapting the statblock to something else if you'd prefer your format.

** spoiler omitted **...

Format is fine for now, may need changed if selected

Slate Feldspar wrote:

Have now updated the character to your specs. I have added an IC post and Slate's drives in his profile. Once again any feedback would be great!

Also is the one additional trait free if it is a campaign trait or do you have to take a drawback to gain it?

Thanks!

Two traits plus the campaign trait are free, Drawback is required for a fourth trait. I like to see what players can do to use the traits to help define and fit their backstory or if it is used only for min/max.

Racket wrote:

For the first: We would likely widely disseminate our origin story about saving the half-orc children, and make it clear that we find human society most comfortable, and make ourselves available for any paying jobs that the town might require of us. In other words, we'd work hard to ingratiate ourselves with the locals. If necessary, I'm sure we could consider grabbing a hat of disguise or two.

For the second question: If one of us died and the other could not afford a raise dead, we would likely try to come up with a good replacement character that could fill a totally different party role and have a period of mourning.

Fair enough, I have added both characters to the list.

Took some liberties with the backstory but am willing to make changes if needed.

Looks ok on the surface, added to the list.

CHA 5 would cause a few concerns and possible negative interactions around town. I reserve decision on lowering the stat 8 bar but have added him to the list.

The big question is, GM Darkblade, would you allow my hunter to have a Warcat of Rull animal companion? It's on the list of available ACs from Archives of Nethys, but I wanted to run it by you first. See the spoiler below for the stats. I love that there are new ACs local to Belkzen. If you don't like the big cat there's a few other Belkzen ACs that sound appealing as well!

** spoiler omitted **

I've not yet picked up the Belkzen book, but I intend to as support for this AP. This is a companion for 4th level, correct? I could see the possibility but will need to check my local store for the book.

I am not focusing on the crunch just yet, still feeling out the applicants and checking over the backstories and roles that may be filled. Diego seems fine for the time being. As the deadline draws near, I may ask for refinements or additional information.

As mentioned earlier, I have some experience with Aasimar, they seem to follow me most of my campaigns. I will add him to the list once you have submitted. I look forward to reading his backstory.

Shi's Background (Updated):

Shi'Vatha, which in the Celestial tongue means 'Seeker of Evil', Warden Archon of the 7th Tome Zaphkiel was never a very good Warden Archon. Or rather, he was a very good Warden, and little escaped his notice.

But he was not stoic and stone faced like the other Warden Archons. He enjoyed listening to stories, he smiled at things the others found no more important than a stray breeze.

So when Iomedae came seeking an entity willing to form a bond with one of his chosen Paladins, not as a spirit companion, nor even an animal companion, but as a lowly summoned creature of little power, Shi'Vatha thought for only a few minutes before grinning at the god and stepping forward.

Iomedae was not sure of this choice, but it would be dishonorable to turn down one who had volunteered to give up so much. And so Shi'Vatha gave up the power he had and bonded to Casarina Methaila, a valiant Aasimar Summoner Paladin of Iomedae.

Shi'Vatha was not as strong as most eidelon's, due to his summoner's primary path being that of a Paladin, however, he was an excellent scout, his small feline form allowing him to sneak through places Casarina could not and ferret out information for her.

The two were quite the well known pair in the Church of Iomedae, and got many of the most dangerous assignments. They were especially well known for tracking down dangerous artifacts and destroying them, wherever they might be hiding (or hiden!). However, they were also very good at investigating mysteries as well.

It was on one such assignment that the team met a horrible ending of their pact. Casarina had been tasked with investigating the sudden betrayal by a priest of his flock, and subsequent sacrificing of many of them to some unknown entity.

The pair did as they normally did, Shi'Vatha scouting ahead (although close enough not to lose his life force from being too far separated from his partner), and Casarina dispatching foes with the occasional assistance from Shi'Vatha. Unfortunately, they fell into a trap devised by those who had turned the priest. The two were captured, and taken to an evil cave where blood was spilled in a horrifying magical rite. Casarina's mind was broken with fell magic, and her former good and right nature turned to chaos and evil. Casarina awakened and began to walk the path of an anti-paladin summoner.

The ritual did not go as expected though, for it had not been performed on someone who was both a Paladin and Summoner before. Casarina's tie to Shi'Vatha was rent assunder, both gaining a burning rune on their forehead as the bond was rent. Casarina could not summon a new eidelon, and Shi'Vatha could not return to his home.

Casarina was afraid to kill her former ally, for fear her ability to summon, or use summoner magic, would also be destroyed permanently. So she locked the catlike eidelon in a steel cage and tortured it when bored.

After several months of such treatment, amazingly, Shi'Vatha's shattered mind began to reform, the madness induced by the destruction of his bond receding, and his original good and upright nature returning. Finding himself suddenly able to control his own evolution, he waited for Casarina to depart on a murder spree, and evolved an upper torso, turning himself into a taur. Using his newfound hands and skills, he used a bent nail from the wooden floor of his cell to pick the lock and flee back to the church to tell them what had happened.

The church of Iomedae is nothing if not loyal, and Shi had shown such loyalty as few have for the church. However, his manners and mannerisms were not... exactly what they expected of either a paladin or a paladin's creature. And his newfound (and understandable) attitude of Antipathy toward Paladins was also something of an embarrassment.

So it was that it was decided that Shi needed to be assigned somewhere relatively remote, and far away from the primary houses of the Paladins of Iomedae, that his spirit might heal, and his newfound dislike of paladins eased without causing disharmony in the church.

He was asked to go to the far city of Trunau to help Tyari Valvatos, a High Priestess of Iomedae who resides in Trunau. Tyari has, as a guardian (and possibly suitor), a former Paladin of Iomedae named Brantos Calderon. It is hoped by the church leadership that Tyari (and the former Paladin Brantos) can ammeliorate Shi's antipathy of Paladins. Given Brantos's no longer a paladin, they hope his presence will be a reminder that not all paladins fall quite so badly. And that the other paladins in Trunau will restore the Eidelon's faith in their order.

Shi has spent 3 months in the city. He was not very well trusted by those outside the church at first, but his hard work, and his humor, have slowly been winning people over. He's especially popular with the local children (some of whom get rides when no one is looking). And the fact the eidelon selflessly helps with any task that needs doing at any time of the day or night, be it hauling supplies, carrying stones, sweeping, washing, tending to wounded, or even just standing watch over someone who's collapsed drunk until they wake up, all without complaining overly much has done much to allay people's distrust of his form.

Shi would know a wide variety of names in the city, but not much about local politics or history. He'd probably know more kids than anything else. He's new, and has been working hard to make himself known as someone that helps. Given he doesn't sleep, he can usually be asked for help at any time of the day or night and offer it.

Seeing as there are a couple of aasimars applying, I should perhaps say that Isandril identifies himself as an elf (after all, azatas and azata-blooded aasimars appear quite elf-like if memory serves, basically looking like very beautiful and graceful elves). Although he recognizes that his blood does make him a little different from other elves, celestial blood is a characteristic of his family dating back centuries and House Velahrn is first and foremost a noble elven House and actually quite proud of the fact that quite a few of its members show signs of angelic ancestry.

Hi here is the Oracle Havoc told you about.

I'm still writing the background but this is a sneak peek.

Trailer:
Lucina's family have always been associated with both death and life. So people who are often close to death are brought to them. One night a mother brings her three daughters to Lucina's grandmother, try as she might the girls died. The mother having already lost her son and husband couldn't take it and blamed the grandmother. Cursing her and sealing it with her own life. Not knowing that in the process she would bind the souls of her children to the mortal plane. Lucina now searches along with her husband Creed for a way to free these trapped spirits stopping and helping those in need along the way.

Would you be OK with a Strix? If the flight early game would be a problem, I was planning on giving him a dragon-related injury that prevents him from flying and can only be healed with a regeneration spell. I was thinking maybe Ranger(Dragon Hunter). Let me know if the race is acceptable before I stat it up?

Alright here is Havoc and his amazing Ifrit.

Thanks for the catch! lol Was working on him at work and forgot to change the name!

I have updated Slate's background and appearance to integrate the Dragonfoe trait more thoroughly and added the Dedicated Defender Trait. Thanks!

I am also waiting for the book in PDF form, so I am not sure if it's not available until 4th level. In the meantime I will get the basics going. I have the concept in my head I just need to flesh out the rest of the back story. My wife has training for work today so I have to watch our toddler before I head to work as well. I will submit more a little later this afternoon! Thank you for the reply!

Construction completed, Groin ready for inspection (....uh oh...)

Shi's rebuild is complete now.

I think it would be rather hard to incorporate a race who has such a deeply ingrained hatred of humans into a character backstory that works for, with, and on their behalf. Are you shooting for a Drizzt Do'urden of the Pathfinder world?

Question for the DM.

traditional fantasy style character tropes.
I don't understand what that means. Stuff you would normally find in video games/D&D movies?

also, I maxed out on traits if that is okay. 2 trait, plus 1 campaign, plus a drawback, plus additional traits.

Just because Pharsma is my main deity doesn't mean I'm willing to giver her Creed.

After being lonely throughtout her childhood because of her curse she has finally found some one who accepts her.

While affected by inspired rage, allies other than the skald cannot use Charisma-, Dexterity-, or Intelligence-based skills, except Acrobatics, Fly, Intimidate, and Ride. Arcane Bond (Sp) Once per day, can use bonded horn to cast any spell known. Can magically enhance horn as though the necessary item creation feats are possessed, provided that the prerequisites for those feats are met.

BACKGROUND
The story goes that on the day the orcs fell upon Trunau, it was the horn of Rorek Windcaller, a nomadic Ulfen warrior, that first sounded their approach. More elaborate retellings of the tale claim that with the power of that sound alone, he tore many of the invaders asunder. It was almost certainly an embellishment, but it was one that his descendants wholeheartedly embraced; after all, it made for a good story. Rorek never did leave Trunau after that climactic battle, a newfound sense of camaraderie perhaps having compelled him to stay. His blood runs thick through Davik’s veins, a fact that he and the rest of his family take great pride in. As his family’s eldest son, on his twelfth birthday, the same day that he first received his hopeknife, his father passed down to him his old battle horn - allegedly the very same one that Rorek himself had used. From that day on he taught Davik all he knew of Ulfen tradition, including how to fight and how to rouse in others a fighting spirit. As a young man Davik now patrols the ramparts on a daily basis, prepared - but not eager - to sound the call, just as his ancestor did.

Background is a little on the short side, but I think it works as far as Trunau Native goes.

I submit for your selecting pleasure, Rydell, Guardian of Trunau

Quick question; how are you going to handle HP for animal companions? Similar to PCs? i.e. Full HP for 1st HD, and then average rounded up for every HD that follows?

I've got my concept/background/personality all worked out, now I'm just putting the concept to flesh. I wanted to hold off on posting until I have everything together to help keep things less cluttered for you.

More along the lines of fantasy novels or stories of Robert Howard, J R R Tolkien, the Original Dragonlance Trilogy, etc.

For movies things like the Beastmaster, Dragonslayer, Ladyhawke, Conan, and of course the Tolkien movies to name but a few.

Yes, companions, pets, and familiars would follow HP rules similar to PC's.

Placing Swift Arrow here for now. Still need to get the background and personality complete but I also need to get some sleep. I have an idea for background I just need to flesh it out some more. He is a Shoanti from the Lyrune quah raised in Janderhoff.

Polished backstory and motivation to be more in line with GM requirements. (particularly relating to Trunau)

If we have any Mystic Theurges or Eldritch Knights using SLA's for early entry, they killed that yesterday in the FAQ with a reversal of the previous ruling.

I just had it kill someone's application in a game I'm recruiting for, so thought I'd warn submitters here.
