The way is potentially cleared, unless Adir falls, which I suppose still clears the way for the next in line.
Due to his size, Adir will need a DC14 Acrobatics check to make the top of the tower rushing, then through the Grease with a second Acrobatics check at DC10, and have 10' of movement remaining, as well as a Standard Action. Alternately he may move slowly up to and across the Grease, requiring only the DC10 Acrobatics check, with a Standard or Move Action remaining. He would not be in range to make a Melee Attack.
Groin will follow at half movement up to and across the Grease with a DC10 Acrobatics check, having a Standard or Move Action remaining. He would not be in range to make a Melee Attack.
Songan will follow after, either using a Move Action to reach the Grease area, stopping to fire an arrow from within the Grease effect or he may make a DC10 Acrobatics check to move out of the effect, with a Standard or Move Action remaining. He would not be in range to make a Melee Attack, though if he rushes he may make a DC9 Acrobatics check on the stairs, then the DC10 Acrobatics check on the Grease to reach the drummer inside Melee range, with a Standard or Move Action remaining.

Sorry, apparently, I fail reading comprehension. When you said you moved everyone up to Tuzak, somehow I interpreted that as delaying everyone turns.

Round 11
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Adir tries to slowly navigate the slippery steps, but is completely confounded by the greasy landing.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Acrobatics: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5
Reflex: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
GM Darkblade
Acrobatics: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (17) - 1 = 16 Groin rushes up the stairs behind Adir, hoping to help him on his way through the hatch.
Strength: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10 He grabs the druid by the back of his leggings and belt, hoisting him through the hatch.
Acrobatics: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (20) - 1 = 19 Together the pair slip and slid across the grease, Adir finding himself Prone on a clear patch of rooftop, resting on his hands and knees while Groin is flat on his belly, Prone, still resting on the edge of the greasy mess, his face and beard coated with the foul orcish creation, the warrior trying hard not to retch from the stench of it.
The way is clear for Songan to reach the hatch, but he may have difficulty traversing the greasy mess atop the tower.
Alternately Groin could have used a Bull Rush: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21 vs Adir's adjusted CMB to push the lad up and out of the way.
Delia Everheart
Round 11
Delia runs up just in time to see Dundin take out the orc ahead of him. Hearing additional sounds of battle, she rushes past him as quickly with Jace still right on her heels. "Hurry Dundin!" She shouts as she passes back!
I always forget about Running in combat... That definitely would have been beneficial for last round. Oh well. Delia is almost back into the thick of it!
Double Move again. That should put her just clear of the fires.
Animal Focus - 0/10
Songan
|
Songan will do his best to make for the top of the tower, trusting in his feline prowess to get him through the greasy slick created by the orc's spell.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Should be enough to get me through the grease without fallin' over. If I can reach the drummer in the same turn, I'll drop the bow and draw the sword as part of the move, then attack.
MW Longsword Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
MW Longsword Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
GM Darkblade
Orc Warrior 1 is not dead, it is Staggered, dying, and certainly not able to perform an AoO as Delia and Jace runs past.
Songan rushes up and swings his sword at the drummer, but it easily ducks the blow, alerted to the rush by the clumsy entrance of the others. The orc laughs for a moment, thinking itself likely to be able to overcome such threats, unknowing just how dangerous the heroes of Trunau truly are.
Stepping back, the orc drummer growls another rude lullaby, dropping a Sleep over the group.
Adir: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Groin: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Songan: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Tuzak: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Tuzak seems to be the only one to react to the spell, his head drooping, his eyes closing, his body slumping over onto his side, a soft snoring rising from his chest.

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Hmmm... I was thinking Orc 1 was dead for some reason. At least it didn't get an AoO! Whew. Also, Sleep is a full round to cast. I always forget that myself!
Delia Everheart
I completely agree! And I would even be fine with GM fiat indicating a Standard Action casting. I do not feel the spell is that powerful that it needs a Full Round action. Especially when you consider it's limitation beyond early level casting.
GM Darkblade
The mythic version of the spell, now that justifies a full round action, but the standard spell, 4HD limit starting with lowest checked first, low Will Save, small area of effect, it just doesn't seem to balance out for a wizard to even waste the energy on the spell without a solid meat shield to buy him the time to get the spell off. And then of course you have to be careful of placement so as to avoid catching your own team in the effect.
Brampton Pratt
"Have it your way Bronk. I'm going to kill you."
Brampton moves up to attack the orc. 15' reach
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Damage: 2d8 + 6 ⇒ (3, 2) + 6 = 11
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Damage: 2d8 + 6 ⇒ (4, 1) + 6 = 11
Confirm fumble: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Leira
I agree. 1 round casting is understandable at first level when the spell is just a killer, but past that... Perhaps making it standard action affecting 1HD/level with maximum 6HD would have more sense
Leira finally takes the masterwork greataxe, and then, listening the rise of combat at west, she moves 30 feet towards the battle.
Tuzak
Round 11
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Tuzak lunges forward toward the spell-casting orc.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Move: 5' step
Claw: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23

Claw: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
GM Darkblade
Leira is not able to move so quickly. Her strength is only 9, and with her normal gear she was pushing on the line even being able to move 30' per round. Having picked up the extra items, she is now into a medium load, facing encumbrance penalties. If only Nodwick was available...
Brampton strikes hard against Bronk, Staggering the orc with his first strike, wiping the smirk off his snarled face, replacing it with the grim determination that death is watching, waiting.
Tuzak strikes at the casting orc, Concentration: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12, disrupting his concentration and raking him across the chest and arm with the sloth's curved claws. The blows solicit a cry of pain and anger from the drummer, as he loses his spell and reaches for his battleaxe.

Brampton swings again trying to clear the way to Silvermane.
Power Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Damage: 2d8 + 9 ⇒ (2, 1) + 9 = 12
If that attack drops him then Brampton will move up to Silvermane
GM Darkblade
No worries all, it is coming along fine
Dundin steps up and finishes taking the head from the macabre orc which was somehow still clinging to life, trying to fight against him even as the last tissues were tearing, dropping it's head from it's neck. The dwarf kicks it aside as he rushes past to aid the others.
The older soldier Omast finishes loading his heavy crossbow but hesitates to fire, Brampton's moves and swings liable to be caught in the crossfire. He holds his aim in case the younger warrior misses with his next attack.
Bronk, sensing his death approaching, Charges at Brampton, using the man's extended reach against him, much as the dwarves teach when battling giants and their kin. The orc swings his Greataxe: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 but his own rush and desire to strike throws off his aim, missing the mark too early.

Round 12

"Thanks." Adir briefly nods at Groin in acknowledgement of his help before turning his anger and frustration on the drummer. He moves in quickly, hoping to dispatch the orc.

MW Longsword Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
MW Longsword Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
GM Darkblade
In order for Adir and Groin to have been able to stand up and attack, they would have to have charged the drummer. For this to work Songan would have needed to circle around to position himself giving them the lane to use. I have adjusted positioning to allow everyone to enclose on the drummer and attempt to finish him quickly.
Adir charges up to the orc, his spear missing to the left as the drummer sidesteps the thrust. This move however puts him directly in line with Songan's sudden cat-like pounce, the bard's blade puncturing the clawed drummer's side, likely rupturing a kidney and causing a howl of pain. While looking rough, the drummer does not seem ready just yet to give up the fight.
Groin charges the orc as he rises from the grease, Acrobatics: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (11) - 1 = 10 but swings his Warhammer: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11 too high, the handle slipping slightly due to excess grease picked up from the sliding entrance to the rooftop.

Round 12
Seeing one of the militiamen engaged with the Orc warrior, Delia skids to a sudden halt as she draws an arrow from her quiver. She quickly takes aim and lets her arrow fly; however, in her haste Delia releases too early and the arrow goes wild! "Jace, kill!" She indicates the Orc #5 (Bronk right?)! Jace runs forward with his maw open to tear the Orc apart with his massive fangs!

While Delia's arrow misses the mark, her warcat easily approaches under Brampton's bulk and strikes an unexpected blow at Bronk, finishing the orc before he has time to realize the feline is there.
High atop the tower, the drummer is pressed by his foes, his back against the parapets. He grabs at the wand dangling from a thong on his belt and with a grunt a small burst of raw red energy flows over his wounded side, Angry Red Magic: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8. He then holds his axe firmly in hand, taking a defensive stand as he whips the blade around in a fair display of skill. It almost seems as if the energy released provided him a rush of anger and hate, both closing his wounds and driving his ire at your group as well.

Brampton Pratt
Brampton gets ready to strike Bronk again when out of nowhere a massive warcat appears. A blur of teeth and claw make quick work of the orc.
As he moves past he looks into the cats wild eyes and says, "Nice kitty."
He pulls out a potion as he heads for Silvermane.
Dundin Larringfass
Dundin moves next to Omast. Bloodied from many wounds, he says to the guard captain.
"You should see the other guys. What we got here?"
Dundin renews his lead blades spell with his wand.

Omast turns to Dundin as he approaches, nodding. He waves at the girls, noticing them arriving as well. Good to see you all again master dwarf. The sergeant gestures around at the barricade. The others have run back to Upper Trunau, to hold the line there. Lower Trunau has nearly fallen. I hold here what I can, but I am the last. These ones pointing to the dead orcs, were part of the wave that overran me, but thanks to your help, they are finished. I saw a scout probe the gate a few moments ago, likely another wave will soon return. He looks high to the sky, but storm clouds hide the moon, hide the stars, only the glow of Trunau's fires giving a coal red glow of light along the horizon. If you were to help me push them back, we might rally the troops, may keep the orcs from moving any higher. Kurst led his cavalry down and out, taking the fight into the fields, but if we fail to break them within, those without won't stand a chance.

Brampton reaches Silvermane's side, finding the ancient elf motionless on the ground before him. He manages to pull the potion from his belt and kneels down next to the druid.
Dundin and Omast Frum watch from nearby as Leira rounds the corner, approaching the group.
Currently no other orcs appear to be approaching the barricades, though there are calls, shouts, and screams rising up from the darkness and shadowy fires beyond, part of Inner Trunau burning at the brands of the savage orc army.
High atop the tower, Tuzak's claws miss as the orc drummer pushes back with his wildly swinging axe, managing to keep the great sloth at bay. The orc growls and spits at the group, sensing his time is growing short. Desperately he eyes them, the path to the stairs, the wall and the drop to the ground below.

Leira will say as she approaches the group, and holding the belt full of potions high to the sight "I got these potions here, but I cannot assure they are healing ones" she says a bit scared about the death around "Perhaps those you killed are also carrying some"
Songan
|
Seeing the desperation growing in the eyes of their enemy, the desire for escape to fight another day, Songan presses the attack, hoping they can manage to either bring him down completely or do enough damage that the risk of pressing through, either through the stairs or my deliberately falling, would be too great to allow escape by either means.
MW Longsword Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
MW Longsword Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
GM Darkblade
Adir focuses his spear on harrying the orc drummer, adding to the distractions Tuzak is causing, landing a solid strike with his spear. The point rips open one of the wounds previously closed by the orc's magic.
Songan lands a small cut across the back of the orc's wrist, not enough to disarm him but certainly enough to add to the pain and anger the creature is feeling. Frustration and fear are certainly building on the orc's face.
Groin uses these strikes to move in closer, swinging his Warhammer: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 into the drummer's side, causing Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 a whoomph of air to come rushing from the orc's lungs, Staggering him and wobbling him on his feet.
The orc sees his hopes of surviving this fight, or of even taking down one of his attackers dwindling, but he growls out in anger and refuses to give up. You may win here, but Grenseldek will have her due... Blood is owed her heritage.
With that the drummer swings his Battleaxe: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 off wide at: 1d4 ⇒ 1 Songan, the blade narry close enough to whiff at his fur. Sweat and blood pour from the orc as his life drains away over the stones of the tower.

Leira moves forward next to Delia "So lucky you are all still ok"
She sees the dwarf full of wounds "Oh Dundin! That looks nasty, we need to take care of that. These potions here might be healing ones" the girl offers the potions to be identified.
And she offers the weapons to Dundin "I have found this fine warhammer, perhaps you should hold it as a second weapon", at that point she finds Brampton "You are the guy whom was training to get in the militia, aren't you? I have heard you suffered a giant's attack in the past..." he offers the masterwork greataxe to him "Keep it please, even if just as a secondary weapon. We need as many hands as possible to face this menace, I am happy you are by our side"
The girl suddenly realizes about Omast and Silvermane, but she has little time to do more for now.
Brampton Pratt
Bampton slowly pours a healing potion into Silvermane mouth.
"This should get you back on your feet sir."
As the potion takes effect he helps him to his feet and begins to move to the barricade.

Buoyed by reinforcements, Tuzak attempts to finish off the drummer.

Leira moves up wearily, still encumbered by the additional gear she is carrying, stopping by Delia. She calls out to Dundin and Brampton regarding the gear, but still holds all of it in her possession, awaiting them to take them as offered.
Brampton's potion sparks a reaction in the old elf, causing his wounds to cease bleeding, his eyes to flutter weakly. The elf looks up at him, speaking the gratitude of which the elf cannot otherwise express. It takes a standard action to administer the potion, but you can force a move action upon Silvermane to stand from prone if desired while likewise standing up yourself. Strength Check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Until Dundin moves over to Leira and takes the potions belt, he will not be able to identify any of the potions. If he wishes to drink a healing potion now, he will have to take from his own stock.
Tuzak again fails to rake the orc drummer with one of his paws, instead drawing furrows of scratches and scarring across the orc's armor.
Omast calls to the group, as he moves back along the barricade, his hand straying over various reach weapons aligned against the structure, We must be ready, they will be striking again soon. Appearing much more focused and in control than when previously encountered, Omast glances at Brampton as the young soldier steadies Silvermane. He needs to be taken to the medic's station, he'll be a distraction if he stays here. Silvermane seems to nod in agreement.

Delia nods. "Jace and I will take Silvermane back to safety. The rest of you, hold the line until I return with the others!" She puts an arrow to the string of her bow and whistles for Jace's attention. "Whenever you are ready, Silvermane." As soon as the elf gives a nod, Delia and Jace will escort him back to the Medic's station as quickly as he can move.
Sorry, was busy last few days.
GM Darkblade
While the others distract the orc drummer, Groin reverses the arc of his swing and pivots for a fast upward strike, his Warhammer: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21 connecting solidly beneath the orc's out thrust chin, doing Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10 as it snaps the drummer's head back, lifting him off the ground to slam against the parapet wall. An audible crack and crunch are heard by the group gathered round as the orc body lands roughly against the stones, then slumps down to the rooftop, it's jaw shattered, it's head cocked askew at an unlikely angle.
Groin lets the others take care of verifying the creature is dead, rushing back down the stairs and out to check on Petrus' condition. He finds him as Delia passes, leading Silvermane. The warrior offers to take both men back to the aid station. When the huntress mentions the failing gate and abandoned posts, he offers to seek out the Longhouse and request additional troops to hold the line, such that the heroes can continue on to Lower Trunau and light the last beacon.
Congrats on making it through this first large battle everyone. Take a few moments and decide what tasks you each wish to do before meeting up at the barricade. I will suspend initiative rounds at this time, and withdraw Groin from the roster as a DMNPC. Do not presume you have too long to dally, so be precise about what you each want to do. This is not the time to loot the world and cash out your treasury, but instead to reset and prepare for the next wave(s). You can check over the drummer, but the miscellaneous orcs are just that, sundry and miscellaneous. Let me know when you are ready to continue.
