Leira's bolt strikes Wardog B just past the muzzle, the metal dart punching deep into the beast's skull, dropping it immediately, barely a shrill whimper escaping it in the process.

Thanks!
Delia eyes the smoke wearily while Jace's tail twitches and growls. "Steady boy."
Jace will hold action this round to get his initiative on the same as Delia.
GM Darkblade
As Jace heels to Delia and Dundin rushes ahead, the last wolfhound moves up to it's mistress, the baying dogs calls contrasting with the crackling of burning wood and falling limbs.

Songan
|
The squares are 10', so...if Songan moves to just behind Dundin, which I think he can reach, he'll be just inside the range of the shortbow, right? If not let me know and I'll revise this action.
Songan moves forward until he is standing as close behind Dundin as he can bring himself, knowing that he'll have to be there if he intends on getting another arrow off; his shortbow's range is unfortunately not quite so great. Once he reaches that position, though, he is quick to let fly one of the projectiles at any wardogs that are presently injured. If none are injured, he instead targets the nearest of them.
Shortbow Attack+AL: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 7 + 1 = 14

Tuzak joins Adir at the edge of the smoke and they both prepare themselves for the rush that is surely imminent.

Adir: Total Defense.
Tuzak: Total Defense.

Songan finishes off the wounded hound he had hit previously, Wardog A. The beast drops heavily to the ground, this shaft protruding from just behind the ear, having caught it below the throat and angling off to the side.

Delia takes a quick look around the battlefield, then directs Jace up to the front with Adir and Tuzak. "Protect Adir, boy. Go!"
She then sights down the nearest wardog and lets her arrow fly as Jace rushes forward to hold the front line.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 7 + 1 = 15

Directing Jace to Defend Adir and then attacking wardog. On my phone and having issues viewing the map, so I'm not sure which dog that would be... Sorry, Darkblade.
GM Darkblade
Roll 1: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Roll 2: 1d10 ⇒ 5
Roll 3: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Delia launches an arrow as Jace moves up to aid Tuzak holding the line with Adir. The hunter's arrow nearly catches Wardog D in the foreleg, but falls short as the beast quickly jumps aside, hearing the whistling of it's fletching.
The beast tamer takes a few steps back and begins blowing on the horn she pulled from her shoulder, wooaahht aaht aaht aaht, wooaahht aaht aaht aaht. You notice, as she moves closer to the flames above and the heavy smoke falling around her, the gases do not close with her form, swirling and mixing around her, but leaving her clear. The same cannot be said for the wardogs.
The dogs are beginning to suffer the effects of the smoke and toxic vapors, their barks mixing with choking snarls and snaps. As Wardog C moves closer, the hound shakes it's head and wipes at it's eyes with a forepaw. Nevertheless it obeys the hunts mistress and heels as she moves.
Due to the flames and heavier smoke deeper in the center, ranged shots are suffering the -5 penalty for poor visibility.

Leira's crossbow shot strikes Wardog D along the right flank, illiciting a snarl and yipe combined.

GM Darkblade
Dundin moves stridently into the cloud, his blade heavy in hand. He rushes at the closest wardog, swinging a good blow only to flinch at the last moment, a bit of soot and cinder finding it's way into his eye. The wounded dog springs back as the ax bits deep into the ground, pulling up with it burning leaves and clumps of moist loam and earth.
Wardog D, hacking at the fumes, Fort: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 responds by spitting a phlegmy hairball at the dwarf, then moving back towards it's mistress. 5' step

|
Songan grumbles, seeming quite unhappy with the beast tamer retreating further into the smoke. I mean, sure, they were dogs, but not even -they- deserved that kind of treatment, especially when the mistress clearly had some kind of special magic that kept the horrid smoke from affecting her!
After firing off one more shot at the wardogs, on the off-chance that he can successfully hit one, he moves into the smoke, replacing his bow with the masterwork longsword.
Archaeologist's Luck has run out; not renewing it yet, so dropping the bonus.
Shortbow Attack: 1d20 + 7 - 5 ⇒ (5) + 7 - 5 = 7

Your Fort Save results take effect at the start of your next round.
Delia and Jace momentarily hold, taking defensive stands, assessing the group's change in tactics.
Groin moves up, past the choking hound, for a shot at their mistress. He swings his Warhammer: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25, clocking her a solid blow for Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10. She reels from the strike, growling at the man, unprepared for the rush, her horn knocked free of her hands by the strike.
The beast tamer responds by drawing her orcish double axe up high and throwing a pair of swinging cuts at Groin, First: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 and Second: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18, the backhand blow scoring narrowly across his midriff for Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3.
Wardog C, defending his mistress without command, Bites: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19 at Groin's calf for Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 and attempts to Trip: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13 vs CMD 17, failing to take the man down.

Dundin rushes up and, flanking with Groin, takes down Wardog D, his new axe cutting into the hacking creature, ending it's suffering. The hound gasps and pants a few moments, trying to fill it's lungs with air, even the burning fumes of this morass, before stilling and laying quiet.
Leira's shot flies a bit low, skittering across the ground, becoming lost in the ashes covering the clearing.

Posting this action with the assumption that the beast tamer and wardog C are within charge range. If they aren't, assume a double-move to close to 10-15' range.
Songan, thankfully able to throw off the effects of the blinding, caustic smoke for now, races forward, his longsword at the ready, trying to close in on the remaining wardog; the sight of the suffering animal noticably disturbs him and he hurries as much he can to end it, his face twisted into an expression of unmistakable disgust and malice for the one holding the poor beast's leash.

Songan rushes forward, striking down the suffering wolfhound, freeing up Groin to focus on the Beast Tamer. The blow pierces the beast's chest quickly, the dog failing to feel the blade cutting deep and ending the spasmodic beating of it's choking heart.
Groin focuses his energies on the Beast Tamer, swinging his Warhammer: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19 hard against her chest for Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8, Staggering her and knocking her back on her heels.
The warrior then moves to try and block her retreat, as well as clear a path for Dundin to follow up with strikes of his own.
In the background, the sounds of drums begin beating loudly and in earnest to the east. Two horns nearby sound out in reply, or perhaps accompaniment, blahhht, blaaahhtt, and blahht, blahht.

Sorry guys, busy week and lost track of the timer....
Delia moves up to the edge of the smoke, unwilling to send Jace into the toxic fumes for now. She takes aim at the remaining wardog, letting the arrow fly. Unfortunately the dancing flames and the dark smoke cause her aim to be off and her arrow shots over the dog and into the burning building behind!

Delia fires an arrow at the Beast Tamer, seeing Groin and Songan take down the last hound. The shot misses and is lost amongst the burning trees and areas beyond the fight.
Adir and Tuzak, choking and gagging on the fumes, move forward and close ranks with the Beast Tamer, inadvertently taking the flanking position Groin had setup for Dundin. The smoke and fumes causes Nonlethal Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5 to Adir, Nonlethal Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3 to Tuzak.
The Beast Tamer uses Tuzak's arrival to step away from Groin, drawing a potion from her belt. She snarls at the group, saying My boyz comin' now. Yer all deds, killin' my puppez.
Leira fires a desperate shot as the Tamer moves amongst her friends, narrowly avoiding hitting them in her quest to strike the orc woman.
With multiple bodies in the way as soft cover, Leira's bolt missed on confirmation, barely striking the initial roll.

Hoooly cheese at a max-damage critical; 20 damage! Man, the RNG is gonna pay me back for that later...if that's enough to kill her, Songan is going to take his move action to go in the direction of the last beacon, trying to get out of the smoke.
GM Darkblade
Dundin moves up and swings, his blow slightly wide as the Beast Tamer steps back away from it, directly into the path of Songan's blade. The catfolk's sword punches deep into her side, punching through her lungs and nearly out the other side. Gurgling, choking on her own blood, the feral orc looks at you all, hate filling her eyes as they slowly turn to black glass, her body slumping to the ground like a discarded doll.
Your band hears the continued beating of the drums from the high tower to the east, top edge of map, as well as a gathering of rough voices along the same direction.
You may take a moment to search the Beast Tamer if you wish, but the fumes are still affecting you, and the Fort Saves are becoming harder to make. You may want to flee the burning area as quickly as possible. Those who leave the field now will need to make only one more save, while those who search the body will need to make up to two additional saves, depending upon who all searches the corpse. One person makes two, two people make one, three people make no additional saves, only the one escaping the cloud. Please indicate which direction you take to exit the cloud.
I have placed the suspected locations for the drummer and the voices on the map below. White balls for enemies, to make it easier, with a black dot for regular troops, a red dot for the drummer. You do not know the numbers at each location at this time.

Leira
Leira will move behind the trees to have a look to her house. Anyway she does not move out of party sight.
Before approaching the North tower she will look for Dundin to renew on him the enlarge spell for 3 new minutes as they move closer to the tower.

Songan is going to search the body to see if he can find anything useful on it.

Fort Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Delia Everheart
Okay, where is everyone right now? We need to indicate a little better I think our positions.
Delia looks torn between chasing after the orcs nearby or completing their mission to light the beacon. 'Mission first. The beacons are a priority...' She looks into the smoke to find her companions, while Jace rumbles nearby as he stares towards the east... "We must get to the beacon!" She yells to her friends. "We can come back for this rabble after!" With that she looks at Jace. "Come, boy." She takes a deep breath and charges into the smoke, towards the gates into the lower quarter...
D Fort: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
J Fort: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
I believe a full run should put her on the outside of the smoke with only 1 round.
GM Darkblade
To make it easier, I have posted below a map with 5 locations marked on it, 1 thru 5. Please indicate towards which location you are moving your character, so that I may prepare the next encounter accordingly. It should make things easier in figuring out what sandbox option(s) are triggered. Each player should decide for themselves where they wish to go. Groin is likely at this stage to follow either Dundin or Songan, whichever seems likely to act first.
Adir Bloodmoon
Adir and Tuzak try to find their way out of the smoke.

Fort: Tuzak: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14

Adir: 11 NL damage
Tuzak: 8 NL damage
Leira
Leira tries to make Delia reconsider before she heads to the gates "Most important is for Trunau not to fall! If we do not face the challenges here, it might be impossible to retake the lost positions later. Let's face the orc leader in the eastern tower before he rearranges the orc troops! We have orders to help as we light the beacons!"
As said Leira will head to her house at 3 to have a look, but she will do through 4 rather than the smoke, and she will try to gather with the largest part of the party (most probably happening at 3 I guess, whether they are heading to 4 or elsewhere).
Songan
|
"My thoughts exactly! People can't evacuate if they've all been killed by orcs allowed to run free while we're running around lighting beacons!" Songan adds, himself moving as quickly as possible in the direction of the tower, stowing his sword and retrieving his shortbow as he does.
Dundin Larringfass
After dragging the orc druid out of the flames and searching her for valuables, Dundin does not want to retrace his route when people are in trouble. Time is of the essence. He moves clockwise around the fire (1) then (2) then (3) -- I assume we already were at 5 before..
GM Darkblade
Folks, while we are not in combat rounds we need to post round by round action. The locations mentioned may or may not trigger encounters, which are laced throughout this part of town. Songan, which location did you head to first please? If I understand correctly thus far: Leira is heading to 4, or chasing after Dundin. Dundin is heading to 1, dragging the orc body. Adir and Tuzak are heading to 5 to regroup. Groin will go to 5 (since Adir and Tuzak were the first to move from his combat team).
Delia Everheart
Hey guys, sorry for my lack of post today. I had a horrible day at work and barely had time to even grab a bite to eat. Just for my clarification... Songan and Dundin are headed to 1. Leira is heading towards 4. Groin, Tuzak, and Adir are heading towards 5. Delia and Jace will remain at 5 then, since that will just make everything much easier. This is a very complicated section to do via PbP... If this is all correct... then Delia's following post will stand.
Delia curses at the lack of discipline her group is exhibiting. She knows she cannot leave on her own to deal with the beacon, but the constant spreading is leaving her frazzled. She spots what she believes to be Dundin dragging a body towards the lower gates, while another figure darts after him... Just then Adir, Tuzak, and Groin come stumbling out of the foul smoke, hacking and coughing. Lastly she spots Leira's figure darting around towards the east. "Leira, get back here now! We will go check your home, I promise. But it must be done together!" She then edges up as close as she can to the smoke, without exposing herself to it too much. "Dundin, Songan, come back this way! We need to regroup and seek out the orcs!"
Dundin Larringfass
Dundin drags the body out of the smoke, and, as soon as he is clear begins to search the body for any valuables. He sees no need to move it any further than just past the influence of the smoke.
Sorry for the confusion. With the smoke causing problems, I do not know how long it takes Dundin to get the orc body clear and search it. To speed things up, Dundin plans to not retrace his route or go through the smoke again -- so he would go clockwise around the smoke. I had the impression we came from the right on the map, so going back that way would be going over already explored ground.
GM Darkblade
Your group finds on the orc body two potions marked with healing runes (likely cure light wounds), 2 crude glass vials of an acrid liquid (acid), a bag of rusty caltrops, a suit of filthy leather armor, three ash javelins, an orcish double axe in a beat up scabbard used to hold one blade end of the axe, and a fetish covered pouch containing 36 gp.
Leira
Leira holds off next to the burning tree once she sees the group coming out of the smoke through 5 instead of 3 as she expected.
Hearing Delia calling her and trying to regroup, she closes by in the midst of the battle chaos.
Add the loot to the spreadsheet please, I have only phone access meanwhile
Once the team tries to decide for the next step, Leira opinion is clear "Let's face the orc leader in the tower "
GM Darkblade
Leira moves up, watching from near the burning tree, seeing movement in both the tower and surrounding buildings. As the others follow, with companions in the lead, they realize there is a small force of orcs who have already succeeded in entering Trunau. Jace and Tuzak growl and mewl as they sense the warriors nearby.
Boom, boom, boom, badoom, badoom, boom, boom echoes the drum from high above atop the tower, the large orc whipping back his padded strikers in strong forceful swings. The door to the guard tower is ajar, a few shadows moving within but not exiting the structure. Several Trunauan guards and villagers lie scattered dead around the base and into the lane beyond.
The small cluster of homes around the tower have been abandoned, hopefully early enough that the residents have fled to the safety of the Longhouse in Upper Trunau. As the drums beat harder, and faster, several orc warriors begin rushing forth from the nearby homes, loot dropping from pockets, blood dripping from their blades. It may be that Trunau has lost a few of her citizens to these marauders still yet. The bloody hopeblade one orc holds, now a looted prize, suggests perhaps someone saved themselves from the savaging that was yet to come. Their blood cries out for vengeance, as the orcs cry out for more war.
The greedy orcs, confident of victory, have already looted most of the useful goods and supplies from the homes and piled the valuables outside next to a crude cart stacked with orcish equipment. The pile contains mostly clothing and food, but shows a smattering of bottles, jars, sundry items, a lute, and various assorted weapons jumbled into the mix.
For Grenseldek the orcs bellow as they rush to meet your band, the last defenders remaining to Inner Trunau.
