DM Cobalt |

You find it easy to move towards the door, as many patrons, now able to see and hearing (and seeing) some fighting in the farther parts of the room start pushing out of the doors. You ability to move in crowds allows you to remain at your appointed post, but your ability to strike at someone in the crowd is dubious at best.

Geoff Barriston |

Geoff jumps off the stage and moves to the man attempting to flee. He smacks him in the head with the flat of his sword.
acrobatics 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
attack w/nonlethal & PA 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
confirm crit 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 darn!
damage 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
"Not so fast! Give up now and you might live."
that should put me in N8

DM Cobalt |

Geoff heads for the man that he is pretty sure is the one indicated by Darian.
You were blind when he started moving, and now everyone is attempting to flee, so hopefully you have the right guy...
"Wrong guy" (aka, concealment in the crowd) modifier: 1d100 ⇒ 35% Hit!
"Help! I'm being robbed!" he yells to the bouncer who is just behind him.
"You there! Stop!" the bouncer yells at Geoff, heading towards him.
Then the man pushes his way farther along the crowd, edging away from Geoff.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16. He moves to N6 first as part of his move, so as not to provoke an AoO from geoff. He ends up at R7.
Terra is up next, and the bouncers and thugs after her, and then Alanaes.

Round 4
Terra jumps when the Bouncer yells at her. "Wha- I-I didn't kno-Eep!"Terra squeaks as she recoils back from the bouncer as he grabs at her.
Terra blushes as Alanaes arrives to her rescue. T-Thanks..." She mutters, enthralled for a moment as she watches Alanaes gracefully drop the bouncer to the floor.
... Oh yeah, 'that' guy. grr... Getting me in trouble. Stupid no magic rule... Terra dodges through the crowd to P9 and unleashes a color spray DC 14 to try to stun or knock out the guy (V) (and the bouncer affronting Darien) Ha, take that jerk...
Acrobatics 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Edit: If the target moves out of her color spray range, then she will simply attempt to acid dart him again.

DM Cobalt |

Round 4, cont.
Sorry Darian, you moved first, then after you Geoff moved, then man moved. You are going to have to wait for your init to come around again before moving and attacking.
Terra chases after the fleeing man, and gets close enough to cast Color Spray.
Save vs Color Spray: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25 He shakes off the magic, although many in the crowd around him don't, and drop.
By the way, the red letters are unconcious people.
Two more bouncers pour into the room from a door near the bar (I17), while two more and the owner come in at the opposite end of the room (X19).
The bouncer (4) next to Alanaes gets to his feet (if he can), and tries to deal with Alanaes.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
The bouncer (5) near Geoff, seeing him attack a patron, steps up, pulls his club, and attacks.
Bouncer 5 attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18. Bonk! Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Bouncer 3 attacks the thug 1.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18. Hit for 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7. The thug drops to the floor.
The bouncer starts for the doors, yelling, "There are more theives up front by the doors!"
He moves to V16.
The remaining thug also breaks for the front doors.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26. He moves to S10.
And Alanaes to finish out the round.

Alanaes Rastova |

AoO trip attempt: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Redirection (trip) in response to attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Vicious Stomp: 1d20 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 4 = 12 (+4 because enemy is prone)
Flurry 1: 1d20 + 3 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 3 + 4 = 20 (+4 because enemy is prone)
Flurry 2: 1d20 + 3 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 3 + 4 = 22 (+4 because enemy is prone)
Non-lethal Damage Vicious Stomp: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Non-lethal Damage Flurry 1: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Non-lethal Damage Flurry 2: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Alanaes, seeing the bouncer try to get up from the floor, takes the opportunity to keep him down. Unfortunately, his trip attempt is unsuccessful. Alanaes deftly adjusts his stance be like the river. As the bouncer makes his attack, Alanaes uses the man's momentum against him and promptly drops him back to the ground. This time, now that he's been attacked, Alanaes follows up with a kick . His kick is followed by two more kicks in swift succession, aimed to knock the man unconscious, not kill him.
If the man is still conscious:
"Perhaps you should just lie there and recover for a little while. We are trying to help!"
If the man is unconscious:
Alanaes just shrugs and looks towards Terra to make sure she is okay. Then his sights set on Geoff, as he deals with another bouncer.
To make sure you understand why I have so many attacks... I have an attack of opportunity for the man standing up, which misses. I have an immediate action with redirect (see my profile) to make another trip attempt. I get another attack of opportunity when an enemy falls prone in a square I threaten because of Vicious Stomp (note: I could have done this last round too, but chose not to), and I have Combat Reflexes, so I can make 2 AoO's per round. I then spend a full-round action to Flurry of Blows with non-lethal damage.
When am I considered to have my AoO's back, now that I've used two already this round? Do you consider the round to be over once we hit the top of initiative again, or when it gets back to my turn? If it is when it gets back to my turn, am I considered as having only used one, since I used the first on the enemy's initiative? I hope my question is clear!

DM Cobalt |

Alanaes: Your AoO always reset on your action.
So you spent 1 AoO from last round, before your action, and then spent 1 AoO this current round, so you have 1 AoO left.
Now it is Round 5. if you want to go after the man, you can do it now, Darian.
Init.
Darian
Geoff
Angvar
Terra
Bouncers
Thugs
Alanaes

DM Cobalt |

I've got no problem with you using your rolls.
But looking at Geoff's numbers, I see I've been missing part of the penalties for you.
I'll apply them now, and see what we get.
Round 5
Darian moves over to the fleeing man.
Nice try pal."
Darian rolls a 20 + 6 (his str and attack bonus) - 4 (improvised weapon) - 4 (doing non-lethal) - 1 (power attack) = 17.
Hit.
Confirming crit roll is 15 + 6 - 4 - 4 - 1 = 12.
Crit not Confirmed.
Damage is 10.
The man drops like a rock.
Geoff is next.

DM Cobalt |

Rogar:
Sorry, I haven't forgotten you, or your Library roll. I just got caught up in the fight.
Your hunting for history in the Library turns up the fact that there was a dwarf city/stronghold called Kodor, or maybe the mountains were called Kodar (it isn't too clear).
But it was in the mountains of northern Varisia that it was located.
Some years ago, they were attacked by a (supposedly) winter witch from Irrisen, and after holding out for a while, the city/stronghold fell.
She and her frozen undead supposedly rule there now.

Terra Crux |

Terra stares in silence as everyone falls except her true target. [/b]"Uhhh... Sorry..."[/b] Grr... Damn it. He's going to get it now...
And then Darien knocks him out.
...Thats not what I meant, but I guess that works (Sigh)Man I'm useless...
Terra does what she can to prevent the people she knocked out from being trampled on.

Darian Castilan |

Well that ^ pretty much covers it. :)
1d20 + 0 ⇒ (18) + 0 = 18
Even if that roll makes the check, I'm going to play it like Darian doesn't realize what's going on until Terra points out whatever it is. She's supposed to be the smart one of the group and I don't think a lucky dice roll from the dumb fighter should steal her thunder.

DM Cobalt |

Meanwhile, they have seen you attacking with weapons (although Darian might catch some slack for his choice of a stool), casting spells, or curb-stomping one of their employees.
It is very possible that they have the wrong idea about you.

DM Cobalt |

Darian Castilan |

DM, Darian has a dog and a horse outside somewhere. If this place has a hitching post out front, then that's likely where they are. The dog knows the Attack (subdue) trick (as well as Kill). Would it be possible for Darian to stick his head out the door and sic the dog on the runner, or is he effectively out of combat an long gone?

Terra Crux |

Didn't that lady make a speech about robbing the place. Wouldn't the act of taking her down separate us from them?
Terra turns to the others and tugs at Darian's shirt . "I-I think we should leave. Like now... I think these Idi- er... bouncers think we might be the bad guys..." Terra says, blushing when she almost lets an insult slip out.

Terra Crux |

Great, these clowns probably think 'I'm' the ringleder of this cluster...
Worriedly, Terra starts to tug at Darian's shirt more urgently, trying to get his attention over all the confusion and noise. "D-Darian, we really need to leave!"

Darian Castilan |

"Nu uh." Darian says to Terra. "If we leave then they'll think the real bad guys were just victims. You go. Get Alanaes, and meet up with Rogar. Geoff and I'll cover your exit and give ourselves up. We can sort this out after the bad guys wake up. Someone had to have seen it that wasn't us."

Alanaes Rastova |

"No, I cannot do that Darian. I knocked this poor fellow out here after he tried to grab Terra and attack me..." Alanaes points to the bouncer on the floor. "I think perhaps I ought to turn myself in."
He then turns toward the bouncer nearby who have pulled out their weapons. "We can explain everything. We uncovered a plot to steal from the patrons of this bar." He says this indicating the woman who was involved. "Unfortunately, our methods of apprehending them for you proved to be rather unwise, and for that we are sorry."
Diplomacy: 1d20 ⇒ 8
I think my words are going to prove useless...

Darian Castilan |

Running a hand across his face Darian sighs. "Great. Alright then. Wish Rogar was here. Damn."
Squaring off against the advancing bouncers he gently pushes Terra behind him. "Guys, form up on me. Terra, slip outside, call for the guard."
"Wonder how many of them we'll have to hurt before they'll start listening. Who's in charge here?" he bellows.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Rogar is now happy not to be in the tavern :)
While in the library having a great time with no violence whatsoever. he will look for any information regarding the Cauldron.
Knowledge history:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Assuming I still would get +3 to knowledge rolls in Library.
Due to the fact I have a lot of time and am in a Library couldnt I take 20 on these knowledge checks?

DM Cobalt |

It is suspected that some underground ruins are Thassilonian, while others are Dwarf-made (and some are natural), although the city doesn't use much of the underground.
The city proper was founded during the Chelaxian expantion, about the same time as Korvosa, Magnimar, and Riddleport.

DM Cobalt |

Terra rushes out with the crowd, looking for the guard.
After a while, she does find two men who have a look of being guardsmen, although they don't look very interested in most of what is going around them.
Still, it is the first 'guardsmen' that she has seen in the city (odd, that their seems to be a lack of guardsmen around).

DM Cobalt |

"I'm in charge here," says the shorter, one handed man who was giving the speech at the beginning of the event. "Care to explain yourself, and why your man is stomping o' of mine? Or is he one o' the others?"
The guards surround Alanaes, looking like they want to chop him into small pieces, but they hold their attacks waiting for the word.
Other guards start to gather in the unconscious people.

Alanaes Rastova |

"He was laying his hands on my friend and when I stopped him, he attacked me. I was only defending myself. And you'll see he's not really hurt that bad, just unconscious. I had no intention of causing him lasting harm."
Alanaes stands where he is, not making any sudden moves. He mentally prepares himself to fight back against the bouncers with swords, should it come to that.
In case it matters, Vicious Stomp can be any type of unarmed strike. I flavored it as a kick, not so much as a stomp because I have been dealing non-lethal damage.

Darian Castilan |

"Hey, yeah, that's a good idea. Let's not talk things out. It's not like your boys care that we did their job for them and saved you from being robbed blind. Looks like what they really want is to start stabbing at my friend here. So we can do that. I'm sure your patrons are bound to forget about the giant screaming bloodbath we turn this into. I'm sure word won't spread."
Darian sets his stool on the ground, sits on it and retrieves the short-chained flail hanging on his hip.
"So go ahead boys. Start swinging. This is a gambling house after all. The spectators can bet on how many of us die in the next thirty seconds. I'm sure that'll be a lot more fun than talking."

DM Cobalt |

"Trouble, eh?" one says. "Always a problem, eh?" He elbows his partner.
"Don't know 'bout that," the other comments. "Clegg, he's got a bit o' a feud with Saul, ya know. I'd not want to get involved if its somethin' like that, ya know."
"Oh, true dat, eh? Don't wanna get on the bad side of Clegg, eh?"
'Yah, best we wait an' see if we's needed, ya know. Safer too, ya know."
"And Saul's got ta look to his own protection too, eh? he should be able to handle this himself, if he wants to keep running that hall, eh?"
The two men then lean against the wall, watching in the direction of the Golden Goblin.

DM Cobalt |

"My man was not beating down your ninty-pound girl who went on to drop a fair number of patrons with magic. And this after the whole situation started with a girl using magic. You're right, I should fire him for not doing his duty and beating her down, and instead just 'accosting' her."
Just then the imp in the cage spits out another tirade. The one-handed man cocks his ears to this for a second.
"In fact, it would be just like what you did, beating down a girl who wasn't holding a weapon, wouldn't it?"
