Round 2
Norton - (one action to stand) one action remains
Ta'de-win - posted (standing + loading crossbow)
Furiel - readying action to color spray
Alice - delaying action
Bear-thing comes within 40'
Green
The creature lopes closer looking like it could charge. It slows as it's eyes dart around to the bodies rising, but it keeps approaching. You now see the large owl head on the bear body more clearly in the glow of the low fire.
init Furiel: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
init Green: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Bregor Rowain |
The Green Man begins to wake up slowly, still halfway in the dream he was having.
Nnngh...so much noise, is it breakfast already? It feels like I just put my blanket down...
And next round he will be rubbing his eyes I believe, Good two rounds of combat spent that haha.
Ta'de-win of the Gale |

1st - Burning Disarm, Frostbite, Cure Light Wounds, Obscuring Mist
2nd - Bull's Strength, Flaming Sphere, Fog Cloud
Sorry, I actually don't have a crossbow, so I drew my sling instead last round. Does the creature appear hostile or could I attempt a Wild Empathy check on it?
Alice Morell |
Alice waits for the spell to go off before making any move...
If Furiel's spell doesn't do the job I will go into Crane Style (Swift Action) and charge the owlbear.
-2 AC for 1 round.
DM Bloodgargler |
After moving one paw forward slowly, it suddenly charges. Once within range, Furiel showers it with a blast of colors. It skids to a stop a couple dozen feet from Furiel. It's eye roll wildly... independently from each other, but it seems to be recovering quickly.
will save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
It seems unnatural, and cold and vicious - like a shark... you are not certain how to even go about communicating with it... especially after it charges. you may take an action now, consider your assessment of whether or not the beast was sooth-able one action for this round.
Up to you whether you charge now or not. It is not immediately clear how effectively the beast is incapacitated.
map (not including Alice's possible charge)
Ta'de-win of the Gale |
Round 3
Ta'de-win uses her sling against the creature, readying her shield.
Standard sling, move shield.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Bregor Rowain |
Without armor, The Green Man feels exposed, so he settles for the best he can do and chants out a spell to give him at least a little protection.
Cast Shield of faith after standing.
Alice Morell |
"Worry not Furiel, I will protect you!"
Alice says in a playful tone, winking at the gnome.
Alice, seeing the beast stunned, and Furiel giving the command, will move up and claw at the beast!
Forgot, I can move 40 feet! lol I usually don't play monks
Claw Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Crit Confirmation: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Crit Damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Total Damage = 12 (assuming it is indeed a critical hit)
Ta'de-win of the Gale |
Wasn't able to pull up the map before, so my attack is -4 due to range. Makes it a 16 total.
DM Bloodgargler |
Norton mounts nearby Murak, Ta'de-win's sling bullet strikes the meaty shoulder of the beast. From Furiel's spell, Alice grows as she charges... ending with a vicious slash from a clawed hand.
You hear the rest of the camp starting to rise behind you... including Green's rumbling voice casting.
Round 4
Norton
Ta'de-win
Alice (enlarged)
Furiel
Owlbear
Green
Furiel |
Furiel weighs the options of enlarging Green or waiting with another spray of colors. He decides on the latter, and circles further ensuring only the creature is at the outer range of his spell.
move 20' and ready color spray{dc15} the moment first color spray wears off. Posting from phone so can't see map:-(
"Don't get between the creature and me." the gnome warns.

Ta'de-win moves up, attempting another strike with her sling.
Move to G12, Standard to attack.
Sling, in melee: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 - 4 = 16
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Alice Morell |
I can't see the map either, since I am at work and it blocks it, but I will 5 foot step if necessary to allow Furiel to aim spells. I have reach now :D.
Round 4
Alice will claw the beast!
Full attack.
Claw 1 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Claw 2 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Damage 1 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Damage 2 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
DM Bloodgargler |
Norton charges on Murak, but fails to get enough leverage to cut through the beast's hide. Ta'de-win's sling bullet whistles through the air, and cracks against its beak. Furiel wheels around and sprays it again with scintillating colors. Alice, now as large as the creature, continues to tear into it's hide and into it's musculature.
The beast remains unmoving, but you see wild rage in it's eyes.
map (not including Green's movement)
Rogar calls out to others of your camp now rising "We have this one handled, lets get some eyes around looking for others!"
Alice Morell |
Posting round 5 to keep things going! :D
Assuming it is still alive when my next turn rolls around.
Round 5
Alice will full attack with her claws at the beast, again!!
Claw 1 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Claw 2 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Damage 1 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Damage 2 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Whiff Whiff... :P
Norton Ambrosi |
"Alice, move on its other side, we can surround it!"
Step 5' to F6
Norton Attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Norton Damage 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (3, 1) + 3 = 7
Murak Attack (bite) 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Murak Damage 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Murak Attack (hoove) 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5
Murak Damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Murak Attack (hoove) 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (18) - 1 = 17
Murak Damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
DM Bloodgargler |
Norton nudges Murak into position, but hacks without sufficient leverage to penetrate the stunned beast's hide.
Muraks attacks are only slightly more effective.
Having reached bone where she had been clawing, Alice starts to tear into it's neck, but has difficulty getting through the hide as well.

HP 25/25
AC 16 T12 FF12 CMD15
F/R/W 4/3/7
Storm Burst 6/7
Spells
0th - Create Water, Light, Purify Food and Drink, Mending
1st - Burning Disarm, Frostbite, Cure Light Wounds, Obscuring Mist
2nd - Bull's Strength, Flaming Sphere, Fog Cloud
Ta'de-win moves up and unleashes a blast of the storm onto the creature.
Move to E10, Standard to Storm Burst the owlbear.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15 Touch AC, -2 to attacks.
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
DM Bloodgargler |
Ta'de-win's burst hits the beast like a hard wet slap. It falls. A few seconds later you see the the massive torso rise and fall... breathing but unconscious. It is not immediately clear if it will die from it's wounds, but it certainly looks like a possibility.
Rogar approaches to report.. "No sign of anything else around yet." He looks in the directions of the others checking around the perimeter.
Kesten looks over and nods. "All clear."
Bregor Rowain |
"It does not look like a natural thing, one would not like to imagine how an owl and a bear would be able to sire offsprings...I wonder if it might not be kinder to end it's life here and now..."
Ta'de-win of the Gale |
"It's rage, I have seen it before. It has been treated cruelly in the past by human captors. I do not believe such a creature could be easily tamed, it's distrust would run deep. But I do believe it would be possible to mend the distrust with time." Ta'de-win seems lost in thought. "Though time at present is not one of our benefits if we wish to march upon the Stag Lord soon. I am afraid I am at a loss. I would like to take the time to at the least bring the creature back and free it. After we deal with the Stag Lord, perhaps I could pursue the creature and attempt to establish a connection with it."
Norton Ambrosi |
"We don't need to tame it, just to learn to keep it under control, and display it as necessary. Let's leave it be, we can try to track it down later. After we have dealt with the Stag Lord we should find plenty of time on our hands, and, if memory serves me well, there are other creature we still have to hunt down."
"And yet another question arises: who were its captors?"
Any relevant mark on the collar?
DM Bloodgargler |
Rogar palms his face and shakes his head. "Certainly one of your better ideas, Ser Ambrosi. Let us keep it! Maybe with a saddle Furiel can ride it into battle."... he gestures with a sarcastic dramatic flair.
"Finish it off and be rid of it. This camp will be crawling with vermin before the sun rises. Good night, I say. I have a quite pleasant dream that I wish to return to before it has completely eluded me."
Bregor Rowain |
"Hnnh, it's wounds will take days to heal, in the meantime it is likely to starve to death since it will not wake for a long time yet. And if it does, wounded as it is it may attack someone and kill them for food.
I'll go along with what you decide, just as long as you can live with the consequences."
Ta'de-win of the Gale |
"We have bested the creature, it's life belongs to us now. If we are to put it out of it's misery, I would ask that we at least honor the creature. Though I would rather mend it's connection to humanity, we have another wild beast that needs to be put down first. Simply leaving it would be to doom it to a painful and lackluster demise. That I cannot accept." Ta'de-win goes over to the creature and pets it's unconscious form. "While the rest of you finish your rest, I'll stay with the creature and hope to listen to it's desires. In the morning I will have decided."
What time of day is it at this point? Ta'de-win will finish out the night next to the owlbear attempting to commune with the creature (I know I technically can't do so, but for RP purposes that's what she's trying). I don't think Speak with Animals works on Owlbears but figured I'd ask. If so I'll prepare that in the morning to speak with it. If nothing lese presents itself, Ta'de-win will vote on putting the creature out of it's misery.
Norton Ambrosi |
"If you need a hand I'll gladly help!"
For Norton it's more or less the same as Ta', he has good skills with animals, even though he has not the Animal Trainer feature yet, but some practice won't hurt for future role play.
