DDEX 1-2 Secrets of Sokol Keep [5e Adventurers League] (Inactive)

Game Master Aeshuura

5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons organized play adventure for 1st - 4th level characters.

Grand Lodge

Good morning all!

I am looking to start this up soon, maybe in a week. I would only request that you be able to commit at least one post per day, excluding weekends (when I am much more lenient).

This is an Adventurers League (AL) scenario, and so the characters must be AL legal. The scenario is a tier 1 adventure which is designed for levels 1-4. If you do not have an Adventurers League character, you may make a new one and must start at first level.

Please chime in if you are interested.

I'm interested.

Grand Lodge

Welcome aboard, Bookrat. You haven't played one of mine yet, have you?

I have not. I've been considering running an AL game, but I haven't had the time to read the documents yet. Figured I might try to play one first. Bit less time consuming to play a game than to run one.

Used to do PFS games at the local comic shop. I'm familiar with pbp style games. I'm actively in a homebrew game and running Modron March here on Paizo, both 5e. But I'm new to AL games. I have a number, but no AL character yet.

Interested! :D

Well, the new Player's Guide is extremely streamlined and will go into effect at the end of the month with the start of the new season. It is something like 6 or 7 pages, plus 5 pages of character sheet stuff.

You can check it out at:

EDIT: We will help you with any questions you may have.

@Ander, you are always welcome at my table!

Grand Lodge

Gonna give this a little bump.

Hi all. I'm new to tabletop in general but have a few pf and 5e games under my belt. Would this be a good place to start?

Grand Lodge

Sure! Have you played any Adventurers League games? If not, look at the link above and make a character to join us!

Sorry; been busy making a character (and trying to find the time to make one).

Can you check it out to make sure it's done correctly?

Grand Lodge

Looks good!

Very interested in dipping my toes into 5E. How does this scenario compare to PFS in scope or length?

I've not been involved with any AL. I've downloaded the relevant info and it looks good. I will create a char tonight (I'm GMT time, work 8am - 5pm) and, if possible, pass to you for approval ?

Thanks for the opportunity.

It's about the same. AL adventures are designed to be 2-4 hours of gameplay at the table. That's the same for PFS.

The primary difference between AL and PFS is the record keeping. PFS has record keeping through the website, whereas AL's record keeping is on an honor system where you have to keep track of your own records for your characters.

I've also noticed some difference in how special equipment from the adventures are handled. In PFS, when a Wand (or some other special item) shows up, each PC has the option to purchase it for a set price at the end of the scenario. In AL, thenplayer who expresses interest in it gets it. If there's more than one player expressing interest, the PC with the fewest magic items gets it. If there's still a tie, then the GM rolls randomly. However, unlike PFS, you can trade magic items as long as they're the same level of rarity.

One thing I'm still a little confused on: in PFS, you could only run your PC through an adventure once (except for specific low level adventures). I'm not sure how that works with AL.

I'll dot this. I've not done AL yet but with the link I should be able to get something this weekend.

Am I gonna be the veteran of the group? Wow, that's a turnaround.

It is the same with AL, you may only run through the same adventure but it must be with a different character. (The character cannot have received DM credit for the adventure either.)

Grand Lodge

Right now we have apps from:
Raina Kai (Bookrat) - Druid 1
Ander Meliamne (Jiggy) - Fighter 3
Muckypup
Zahmahkibo
Greycastle
Ceidith (ULTRAGEEK) - Rogue 2

Did I miss anyone?

Grand Lodge

6 is a good number.

Mucky, Zahmah, and Greycastle figure out what you'd like to play and we can start at the end of next week.

Dope. Sheet in progress.

Thanks Aesh, will get back to you a.s.a.p

Ready to roll. -Zah

PM'd my cleric

I replied to your PM. Aside from the little things I noted, it looks good. Nowadays, a DCI number is no longer required, so once you make the changes noted in the PM, you will be ready to go. Oh, I forgot, your Wisdom and Charisma saves add your proficiency modifier as well, so they should be +5 and +2, respectively.

Largo looks good!

PCs:
Raina Kai (Bookrat) - Druid 1
Ander Meliamne (Jiggy) - Fighter 3

Largo Barrelbottom (Zahmahkibo) - Bard 2
Greycastle
Ceidith (ULTRAGEEK) - Rogue 2

I'm working on an arcane caster. Just having brain freeze on which one to play. Heavily leaning toward a tomelock but havnt settled just yet. Any advice?

Liberty's Edge

Are you still taking submissions? Have not played a League game before, but I am most willing to learn!

Grand Lodge

@Daniel, you would be the last, since 7 is table max. So, welcome!

@Greycastle, a warlock offers many opportunities. I think it could be really cool! Wizards are neat, and Sorcerers have a very distinct flavor, so it depends on what you are looking for. Think up a concept during the week. Since I will be busy and unlikely able to respond frequently enough to start until next week!

Liberty's Edge

Awesome..well I am making up a ranger, as it seems you could do with another fighter-type to round out the party.

Will have him up for your inspection asap.

Hi..this is Daniel and here is my submission. Still need some gear and background, but this is the majority of the crunch. Check it out and I can correct anything that needs it.

thanks

Grand Lodge

@Yarroth, a couple of things that I noticed:

- Investigation is Intelligence-based, so your total should be +2 if you are proficient, rather than +3.

- Staring equipment is scale mail (50 gp) or leather (10 gp). Your stats show AC 12 for armor (plus Dex and DWM feat), which is studded leather (45 gp). (Leather armor in 5e is AC 11.) For survivability, you could start with scale mail which would have your starting AC at 17, but your stealth would suffer OR you would have leather which would give you AC 15 to start, but after the first adventure you could easily upgrade to studded leather!

Everything else looks good!

Ok fixed my investigate to +2.

I will go with leather to start, as the scale only allows a +2 dex and gimps my stealth. Once he has some money, Yarroth will invest in studded leather for sure!!

Thanks

Hm, I wonder if it's time to upgrade my armor. If I'm not mistaken, I could sell my chain mail for half price, which I think gets me just enough total gold to buy splint mail, increasing my AC by 1. Do I have that right? Can that be done before the adventure starts?

On the other hand, it might be wise to buy a few healing potions instead, and upgrade my armor later... Hmmm...

Grand Lodge

Yes you may, Ander. Sell for half price. We will note the purchase on your logsheet.

Ok I think this is the way to go.

Grand Lodge

Ok, recruitment is officially closed.

PCs:
Raina Kai (Bookrat) - Druid 1
Ander Meliamne (Jiggy) - Fighter 3
Grigor Dotsk (Muckypup) - Cleric 1 (Light Domain)
Largo Barrelbottom (Zahmahkibo) - Bard 2
Kairon Felwyn (Greycastle) - Warlock 1
Ceidith (ULTRAGEEK) - Rogue 2
Yarroth the Younger (Daniel Stewart) - Ranger 1

Methinks this is going to be an interesting party! ^_^

Speaking of equipment, turns out I had an old version of the ALPG which included the option to take max starting gold in place of your class & background junk. Apparently Strahd is one of those by-the-book types, since that choice got yanked from the current edition. We all good now.

Actually it was only the first Season, I think, that had that option. I think it changed from Elemental Evil.

I'm ready to go.

Grand Lodge

I will have to start us either Friday or over the weekend, because work is too busy right now, as school just started. (I work at a college bookstore)

We will start soon though!

Sounds good

Cool
