@Surplus&Viscount - Surplus that's my understanding as well, that it acts as DR for spells/energy attacks and does not 'run out' like Protection from Energy does.

Hey folks, I'd like a Game/GM check from y'all please. Meaning are there any specific things you'd like to change? Or tweaked or anything like that? We've completed one module, and had a few personnel changes, but I think things are going well for the most part.

Are things too easy? Too hard? I'd appreciate some input, as this would be an ideal time to change things up if we decide some changes are appropriate.

No AOMF yet...I am saving my ducats. I'll keep distracting while the Big Strong Fu--I mean Fighters keep whaling them.

Speaking of Trip...checking forums...I know I can't trip, then trip as an AoO, but if the Lemure stands up and I wasn't the tripper (or greaser), can I trip them as an AoO?


@Enko - I was thinking you could trip in this AoO scenario since you weren't the tripper.

I don't think you can trip someone regardless of who did the tripping if the AoO triggering action is standing up from prone. I recall discussions of "trip-locking" and how it's no bueno.

As for your question regarding concerns, I'm diggin' the game, so I don't really have any!


That trip-locking thread is mind numbing, at least the one I read. Lots of arguments on both sides.

For this game I think we best avoid AoO tripping for the scenario of standing up from prone. We can say that goes into effect from this point forward. Feel free to discuss it further if that's an issue, as I know you have a trip-heavy build.

I think the rule against trip-locking doesn't make much sense, either from the real world perspective or from the perspective of the timing of AoOs, but it does appear to have been adopted as the consensus game balance rule in order to avoid perceived excessive exploitation of the trip mechanics.

I think the logic is that the AoO triggers before the standing up is completed?

I wonder if there are analogies. Start to cast a spell, get an AoO, spell is busted...try to drink a potion, get an AoO, potion all over shirt. Yeah, I can see how that trip-locking logic works.

Don't worry about my build..Enko will head into other things in the future. Trip = trap later. Unless someone invents a Magic Mushroom of Monstrous Tripping. Farrr out.

My understanding is that misfortune is not a mind-affecting effect. Charm and evil eye are expressly described as such, but not misfortune. Slumber is described as operating like the sleep spell which, of course, is a mind-affecting effect. It appears that the misfortune hex alters reality around the target to the target's disadvantage, rather than affecting the target's mind. What was it that prompted the attack of opportunity on the troll? Just for the purpose of my education...


It had to move back to allow it to hit, 10' reach, but it couldn't 5' step to get the needed space since it's back was to the wall. So it had to move north around 10 or 15' (I don't recall which) thus triggering the AoO for Caladius.

I think I'd like to avoid +1's, for a few reasons. I just lost my long explanation post, but basically it's easier to keep it just the group. I'm going to add at the bottom of Sabinus' profile a section containing our mission statement from the Torchbearers. It has been awhile, and I'm a little foggy on the details. It could help us focus our questions and explorations, although in terms of the questions, I have the impression that gaining any gossip we can on the Mayor may be helpful in the long term, even if it turns out not to be helpful for the more specific task before us.

I've also added a section at the very bottom of Sabinus' profile about gossip about Alberian's Folley, so that we don't lose track.
