Corsario |
The "raven" is some 20' from Rupert, son you would need a move action to get in melee range (That would be very brave!) or get between it and Rupert.
Waiting for the actions of all before continuing... I guess tonight.
Titian Stagson |
Titian draws his sword before loudly rallying everyone.
"For Brevoy, protect the king!"
Using his Tactican ability. All allys have now Precise Strike
Aramil Wellys |
Deciding caution would be the order of the day, Aramil spoke words of magic, and suddenly there were six of him where there previously had only been one. Drawing his dueling sword as he moves to interpose himself between the king and the creature, all versions of him doing the same, he says to Rupert, "You may wish to move away from the front line. Typically, kings who lead from the front end up not reigning long."
Standard Action: Cast Mirror Image
Number of Images: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Move to right in front of Rupert, drawing dueling sword as I do so.
Immediate action: If the creature attacks me, spend 1 point from Arcane Pool to use Spell Shield (+4 shield bonus to AC until end of next turn).
And since it doesn't take an action...
Knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (19) + 13 = 32

Knowledge (nature): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (10) + 14 = 24
Knowledge (planes): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
Do I know what it is, and any possible weaknesses?
Aolis Greenborn |
Going to hold off in case I find a weakness.

Dagit Downhill |
... he says to Rupert, "You may wish to move away from the front line. Typically, kings who lead from the front end up not reigning long."
Dagit huffs at those words. "but the best Dwarven kings know how to make that work! and 'not long' for a dwarf is long for a human" he smiles internally, but Dagit refocuses on the situation at hand.
Coalhouse Porter |
Coalhouse slides to his feet, then starts moving around the edge of the pavilion, his hands absentmindedly patting himself down and looking around outside of it while all those on the inside are focussed on the raven. However, his movement will inevitably take it to the opposite side of the raven-figure ...
Perception, Scent and Darksight 90': 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19
Also, retrieving a luangchan-tamo pair from its concealment and keeping them concealed / concealing them but still drawn; Deft Palm allows me to do this even while being watched:
SoH, concealed retrieval: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (5) + 15 = 20
SoH, staying concealed: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (17) + 15 = 32
Corsario |
While the knowledge of giant variety of normal animals are not unheard of, you think you have never heard of a raven so big, and so proportionate. It looks, otherwise, completely normal.
Maybe an illusion? That seems to be Rupert thought.
Weaknesses? Shiny objects, compliments, pointy weapons... who knows?
Coalhouse miss the cloud whirlwind forming on top of the pavilion. Otherwise he sees nothing outside, besides a slightly cloudy dawn.
He can smell the raven... a normal smell.
Merus Lebeda |
Sorry for the delay, spent the weekend pretty sick.
Preception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
At the warning shout, Merus is once again alert after being lulled by the hours of planning. He moves towards the giant raven dodging the last few feet to avoid its reach, drawing his sword as he approaches. He then quickly lashes out at the bird, however he does so very defensively as he is unsure of the level of the threat...
Well, let's see if it is actually an illusion after all.
move- move towards raven, tumbling last 10' to avoid AoO
standard- attack raven fighting defensively and using Combat Expertise
Acroabatics to avoid AoO: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (3) + 15 = 18

CMD-29 (33 vs. bull rush, 31 vs. disarm, 35 vs. grapple, 39 vs. trip)

Trawets Aarock |
Trawets looks at Newton and says "Shield me, please." He then casts Arcane Sight, to augment his sight, as Newton uses the wand in his hand to put up a shield of force in front of Trawets. Trawets then moves to the edge of the pavilion away from the raven and as many others as he can.
Too bunched up in here. It's a great place for a fireball.
Only interested in auras on the raven or ones not on any of us.

The raven seems to ignore the attack. Either is an illusion, or the attack didn't pass the feathers, or the creature is immune to it.
Merus, roll a Will save.Corsario |
Trawets looks at Newton and says "Shield me, please."
We will need to talk about magic dragons using wands later on.

You all hear Trawets let out a muffled scream.
Aolis Greenborn |
Aolis rarely encountered something that he knew absolutely nothing about. Unless it was something that did not exist or was extraordinarily rare. He thought it best to check for trickery, something dangerous or rare would not suddenly appear like this. He yelled at his comrade.
"Sacha, be on guard and get the mounts!"
He backed away and out of the tent. It made to tempting a target and enclosed space.
"I suggest we spread out at least. Perhaps consider retreat."
He felt no need to play into any plans or traps laid out. Their was no gain to remain and fight unless they were directly threatened. Not when they collectively had a small army with in a mere three miles. Still it rankled him, who or what was so arrogant or foolish to try something like this here of all places. They would have been in the wild in a mere day, more chances to deal with easier targets more successfully.
When can Sacha act?
Amavin Zephyra |
Amavin is strongly tempted to unleash lightning from her fingers, but also knows the danger in fighting something when you would be unsure of its abilities. The sight was disturbing, sure, but Amavin was determined to keep a cool head, and not let fear or anxiety cloud her judgement. She also takes the opportunity to cast Mirror Image, as she decides to pre-empt anything aggressive by working on her arcane defences.

How far was she supposed to be?
Aolis Greenborn wrote:He backed away and out of the tent. It made to tempting a target and enclosed space.

Sacha don't act yet.

It doesn't seem to be an illusion, just strong enough to ignore the attack.
And by ignore, I mean really ignore.Corsario |
You don't know if it is hostile or evil, yet.
But it gives a weird and malignant vibe.
Axhammer need a DC 35 Perception Check to notice something. So he doesn't, yet. He will in a minute, don't worry about it.
Trawets Aarock |
Trawets screams as he looks at the Raven and then away quickly. As he stands there blinking his eyes, he shouts out, "That thing has the most powerful magic I've ever seen! It's worse than looking at the sun! There's a force effect around the pavilion. Probably a wall of force."
Aolis Greenborn |
Sacha should not be far, she is Aolis guard and sense Rupert told her to get out she only went as far as he insisted.
Corsario |
Sasha, out of sight (Rupert would have insisted on it) needs to do a DC 35 perception to notice something. For now.
Azrael the Avenger |
sorry for my slow post
Azrael leaps to interpose himself between the visible threat and the king, but that place has already been taken, so he places himself at the king's side, blade drawn and ready to attack anything that might threaten Rupert.
"Whiskers" |
Corwin, the tiny floating solar system near Azrael, reports on whether or not the Raven or anything else in the area detects as evil.

Lord Christian D'Elagante |
Move Action:
Christian moves towards the king drawing his weapon as part of his move action. Stands on the other side of the king.
Some secret meeting you have here..anyone else you forgot to mention was invited
I hate to say it but I told you so.
Swift Action:
Aid the king with his defense:+9 bonus to AC
Aid another: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Standard Action:
Using his Tactician ability to grant all allies Phalanx Fighter
Those around the King will enjoy a +3 Sacred Bonus to AC and Saves vs. evil creatures. All other allies get a +1 to AC/saves for every ally that is beside them.
Christian's voice is calm and decisive.
We need to get the King out of here, spell casters be ready to counter magic if you would please. I need another shield to cover the king. Someone, anyone find us an exit strategy now!
Remember these people are not your soldiers...
Please.

At the same time Aolis mentions the eyes, Corwin, Azrael familiar, chimes in a musical mechanical voice.
"An evil creature has just materialized near."Round 1 of his Detect Evil ability.
Ignatius Digenes Akritas |
Alerted by his companions words, Ignatius Leaps out of his chair droping it to the floor while getting a hold on his greataxe, impressed by the sight of a monstrous raven standing behind Rupert, he hurries to the side of the king, along with the others to guard him, not wishing to take any chance of it being aggressive.
What sorcery is this?!
Iomedae grant me your flame, and no harm shall come to the just. To the king´s side brothers!
Closing the distance as quickly as he can, he places himself at the side of the Rupert, the front already taken, his axe glowing white light across the room.
Ignatius calls for the aid of his celestial spirit, active for 7 minutes
Corsario |
The big Raven moves quickly, cleaning his feathers, and then lets a loud "caw" that makes you feel ill.
It opens his huge wings, and looks at you all.
You start to feel a whooshing sounds and a trembling in the pavilion ceiling.
Hareth |
perc: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
Hareth sprints toward the meeting site and the pavilion... probably only to run into the wall of force when he arrives... He watches the swirling cloud over the tent trying to discern if it's evil or not. detect evil
Corsario |
I forgot, second round. People neat the pavilion would need a couple rounds to arrive, but as you approach you see the swirling clouds.
They are too far for detect evil.
Corwin, I was forgetting, chimes a discordant noise and gets stunned in place, unable to act. By the emphatic link with Azrael he gets an impeding sense of evil, nightmares and doom.
Dagit Downhill |
Dagit holds up his holy symbol and points it at the Raven:Let the spear of Good fell you where you stand! casting spear of purity at the bird.
ranged touch: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23

DC for half and no blind:will=16
Coalhouse Porter |
Also, movement/distance question. Did Coalhouse's 40' of movement either bump hikm into the wall (which he can't see) or, more importantly, get me into my target of a position behind the raven figure? With Merus in front of it, we'd be flanking ...
Porablum Flapzit |
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Going about her usual morning business, Porablum is surprised to find Aramil not back from his late-night meeting. She sees nothing of strange weather patterns.
Trawets Aarock |
Trawets glances up at the sky and sees the clouds. "We've got a problem out here. There's a formation of clouds forming into a whirlpool out here and it's not natural!"
Trawets then advances to the wall to study it and see if it's a dome over them or a wall around them.
Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (7) + 13 = 20
Aolis Greenborn |
"Ignore the raven, it's likely a trick. Clearly someone wants to keep us here while some form of powerful magic takes effect. Find a way to retreat."
The best course of action was just that. He keeps moving away from the pavilion drawing his crossbow as he does. He fires aiming above and just outward enough not to have it fall on his head, that would tell him how trapped they were.
No perception roll cause of mod, auto success.
Sacha Caligari |
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27
Sacha speeds her horse and Fylson along side her towards the pavilion. This was exactly why she stayed by Aolis side, that idiot of a so called king had to insist on dismissing bodyguards. For what, Aolis trusted her, anything said that was important she would know anyways. If something happened to her Master because of him, she would make sure he paid. Along with anyone else responsible.
Jasrella Domas |
Jasrella was ordered to keep an eye south, since the other leader decided that a secret meeting was just that a secret. She was watching the southern area
taking 20 on the perception roll. Total 26.
Exfil team Alpha, you have ISR assets attached and are confirmed to move out. Exfil team bravo, you have chirurgen assets attached and are confirmed to move out. Be safe and bring them back.
A horn is blown and the camp which was on alert, comes awake with even more activity. At least a dozen mounted troops with half again as many horses come storming out of the camp riding south.
Runners! Get to the other camps to make sure all know of this situation. Yes even Coalhouse's group.
Aramil Wellys |
Nodding at Aolis's, words, Aramil turns to King Rupert and says, "If this Wall of Force preventing us from escaping does not cover our heads, we may be able to get you out by air. Do you have a way to fly?"

Dagit's lance of light impacts the raven dead, searing his feathers, and making it caw again and open his wings.GM since Amavin has her weather sensitive item, is she aware of the changes going on outside?
Yes, she does.
Also, movement/distance question. Did Coalhouse's 40' of movement either bump hikm into the wall (which he can't see) or, more importantly, get me into my target of a position behind the raven figure? With Merus in front of it, we'd be flanking
The Raven is with it's back to the (force) wall. No flanking.
Trawets then advances to the wall to study it and see if it's a dome over them or a wall around them.
Perception=20
Probably a Wall of Force, and if such, probably will be open on the top.
The best course of action was just that. He keeps moving away from the pavilion drawing his crossbow as he does. He fires aiming above and just outward enough not to have it fall on his head, that would tell him how trapped they were.
Aolis can't "exit" the pavilion, the invisible barrier preventing him from move out of it. The bolt fly past the pavilion cover, but he is unable to see it after that.
Nodding at Aolis's, words, Aramil turns to King Rupert and says, "If this Wall of Force preventing us from escaping does not cover our heads, we may be able to get you out by air. Do you have a way to fly?"
Rupert Surtova keeps his sword up, ready to strike at the creature.
"No, I do not! Lord Merus, move back! Do not engage, Aolis is right, it might be a distraction!"Rudolf Ferdinand Aldori III moves as far away from the raven as posible, and starts pounding at the wall of force with his shoulder.
The Monk of the Cenobitic Order keeps still, quiet, his head down and his hands together, as if making a silent prayer.
Aolis Greenborn |
Does Aolis with his +20 perception hear the bolt land atop the pavilion or see it fall pass the see through wall of force. :)
Merus Lebeda |
"Damned fine illusion if that's what you think it is, I just missed it. It seems real enough to me." Merus shouts back.
"Don't worry about me, I am actually better off engaged in melee anyhow."
As Merus failed his Will save (if it IS an illusion), he must act as if he thinks the raven is real.
Coalhouse Porter |
Coalhouse, coming around the pavilion's curve, gestures at Merus, pointing 'away' from his own current location and line of approach. If the invisible wall is going to prevent him from getting behind the thing, Merus and he can at least come at it from opposite sides.
"So, now that you've got our attention," he addresses the bird, "Do you have anything you'd like to say? And maybe you mages," he adds, glancing around at the several of them present, "could try dispelling the barrier?"
Aolis Greenborn |
"Considering Trawet's reaction and the mastery of magic displayed. Dispelling is not an option."
Certainly not for him, he had not prepared the spell and even if he did. It almost would certainly fail if the magic's power was great enough to cause Trawet to look away in pain.
