Chronicles of the Silver Rose Company

Game Master Patrick Curtin

This campaign is my attempt to play a canonical Planescape campaign using the updated Pathfinder ruleset. The game actually predates the release of Pathfinder, but we have managed to update as we have needed.

Stealth

1d20 + 14

Merle cautiously ghosts around the curl. Behind it there is a bare strech of rough wood, but nothing else.

Human Wiz 12 (Evocation)

Fort save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17

Justin's instincts for self-preservation kick in not a second too soon. He he pulls up his coat as a shield and takes a gulp of air just as the horrid stench rolls over him like a wave, making his eyes water,...
And hopefully he'll get to finish his move? :)

You get to act normally, but you will need to reroll a Fort save next round if you are still in the cloud, assuming the dretch is still alive (which is a pretty big assumption)

EDIT: I see from your posted action you just clear the cloud, so you are safe ..

Justin runs to the edge of the stench and unleashes a bolt of arcane energy at the dretch. It flies true and hits it, eliciting another shrill squeal from the four-foot misshapen demon.

Isaac continues his forward momentum dodging the webs, leaping toward the spellcaster.
Both charge and spring attack are full-round actions, so I will just move in to keep her threatened. 20 feet, locking down the mage.
"Always preferred tag, m'self. Why don't we try that instead eh?"

The woman laughs and flees behind the curl, calling out as she goes.

"Catch me if you can!"

A moment later Issac hears her shout,

"Defend me my bony minions!"

Are we acting at the same time? No attack of opportunity?

Isaac wrote:

The webbing was actually her round 2 action when she won a tied stealth/Perception roll. (I know, 39 and she tied, I had to get an impartial GM ruling on that from my fellows online). This is round three so you are both exercising your move, but she has you beat on initiative. I don't believe that gives you an AoO.

I could be wrong on this but I was under the impresion that you only had to equal a perception check vs a stealth check?

Male Half-elf (Planar) Ranger 5/Rogue 2/Plane Walker 1

Okay, just making sure. I'll just keep chasing her with my 40 foot move. Fortunately still invisible though. I'll pull out a tanglefoot bag while I move.

Yes. The woman got a 39. Issac got a 39. Issac was Stealth, she was Perception. Thus, as the Perceptor, she won.

Bribes always welcome

Also Issac, if you are chasing her around the curl, roll me another Stealth check please. +20 for invis.

Male Half-elf (Planar) Ranger 5/Rogue 2/Plane Walker 1

Stealth: 1d20 + 32 ⇒ (13) + 32 = 45

Male Human (Athasian) Cleric 10

fort 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29

Ekuur also manages to grab a lungful of air well before the noxious gas surrounds him, having learned from the last meeting with these demons.

Are we still round 2, or is this 3 now?

female elan Psion (Kineticist) 10

Nari stumbles away from the dretch trying to get away from the stench, but not entirely cure of her direction because of her watering eyes.

Aiming for somewhere in the general vicinity of z25.

Also: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Human Inquisitor 6

Quinn runs around the melee and tries to reach the woman and Isaac.

Double moving to S18. Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29

Female Human Cavalier 8 (Order of the Dragon)

Fort1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23

Instinct kicks in as Rhiannon closes with the demon, the ghost armored woman holding her breath as she plunges blade first into the stinking miasma.

female Tiefling 12th level Duskblade

Just in case the little bugger is still up:
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12
3d6 + 9 ⇒ (5, 4, 2) + 9 = 20

Edit:Okay I just saw the fort save:

Fort: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25

If the Dretch is already down Karrin uses her expeditious retreat spell and charges the direction of the archers (taking a double move if necessary)

Spoiler:
1d20 + 24 ⇒ (17) + 24 = 41

Issac:

Spoiler:
Issac dexterously eludes the web strands and charges forward on magically-augmented feet. The ten-foot-tall curl of thick Yggdrasil bark looms over him as he chases the elusive woman around the curl.

Turning the corner he sees eight skeletons dropping bows and drawing wicked-looking scimitars. The skeletons are of a better quality than Issac is used to seeing, more on a par of what the Dustmen might have in their entourages. They wear plain but well-kept chain shirts and their weapons look well-made. Wires hold the various bones together, to augment the necromantic animation. The woman is farther along the curl's side, gesturing in Issac's direction.

"Twinkle, twinkle, little spell,
Blind my foe and mark him well .."

Can you give me a coordinate you wish to arrive at?

Round three. You are OK on Fort save, but you did miss your shot.

Ekuur's lungs hold fresh air as the dretch's stench surrounds him

Rhiannon's blade ends the dretch's foul existance. Its miasma fades almost immediately.

All dretches defeated

Ekuur: 11 [Miss]
Rhiannon: 11 [kill dretch four]
Mystery Arrow shooters: 6 [bowing-pending]

Karrin I'll need a fumble confirm roll please..

Karrin's huge blue axe comes slicing down on the area where the dretch had been, unfortunately, something goes awry ...

Quinn races towards the mystery archers, and sees ...

Spoiler:
several skeletons unsheathing scimitars

Out of time, will continue updating tomorrow! =)

Male Half-elf (Planar) Ranger 5/Rogue 2/Plane Walker 1

Sorry if I'm confused but I was going around to c22 when she interrupted with the web spell. Can I change my action to close for melee? I had assumed I finished my move action when she threw the webs.

Ah, OK. You can see her now, you saw her run at the top of rd three (she beats your initiative). You can follow her and call out a coordinate for yourself with your Rd. three movement. I do not have map tiotally updated, but she is in f22, surrounded by skellis.

Male Half-elf (Planar) Ranger 5/Rogue 2/Plane Walker 1

Isaac will use acrobatics to try and get around the skeletons (I move 40 feet in a move action, so I'll leave it to you to figure out the best way for him to get around them up to that limit- or exceeding it, your call. I'm aiming for e21, which is a forty foot move- 1 diagonal square at the end.) If I have the action left to attack, I will.

Acrobatics (if needed): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
+1 Frost Greatsword: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 252d6 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (5, 4) + 4 + (2) = 15

>UPDATED MAP(SKETCHY)<

OK, had a bit of extra time to update. Issac, I put you in c22. This is probably a bad spot for you, I assume you will call out a different coordinate. This is just a quick update, anyone need a change let me know. Few more things to suture up before rd 4 ..

EDIT: Heh..ninjaed. Issac, I gotta fly, but look at the map and see if this influences you post. I'll retcon on the morrow ..

Male Half-elf (Planar) Ranger 5/Rogue 2/Plane Walker 1

I'll run around to H21 to get a little cover instead.

Issac: 18 [Move to H21]
Quinn: 17 [Dbl move S18]

Naridre: 14 [Nauseated 3 rds, Z25 move]
Ekuur: 11 [Miss]
Rhiannon: 11 [kill dretch four]
Mystery Arrow shooters: 6 [bowing-pending]

Karrin I still need a fumble confirm roll please..

Issac comes running to the edge of the curl as a blast of glitter pops about him

She popped a Glitterdust assuming you'd be headed towards her. I am going to take into account that you said you were going to take cover behind the bark a bit and grant you patrial cover. So take +2 to AC and +1 reflex. Also, make me a DC 16 Will save vs. Blinding effect. Also, I am going to adjutate that you have a 50% chance of not getting glittered because of your cover, so roll me a D100.

Just as the group breathes a bit easier after the dretch falls, a voice sounding like iron scrap dropped on a stone floor intones a loud word:

BAHRGRAAAAM!

A nighmare form blinks into view. It is twelve-feet tall, long-fanged, spike-covered, with two large leathery batwings outstretched. It is the epitome of demon. The creature gestures at the party.

The demon is casting a Mass Hold Person. I need a DC 21 Will save from the effect from Ekuur, Justin, Nari, Rhiannon and Karrin. Quinn just made it outside the effect's radius.

Whereever the arrows were coming from, they've stopped now.

Merle, I know you have posted your Rd four movement, but I am going to hold you at the Rd 3 position until things are a bit clearer. All actions have been taken, so on to round four ...

>RD FOUR MAP<

Gold circle is Glitterdust. Dark circle is the area affected by Mass Hold Person. Merle intends to head up, but is currently at rd 3 space. This map reflects the end of rd three and the start of rd 4. Roll me your saves, and those that succeed head on to posting your actions.

Huzzah!

Issac jinks back just in time to shield his eyes and invisibility from the Glitterdust.

Ok, did you have any actions left? I know you posted an attack earlier, do you want to use it for round four or take another action?

Male Half-elf (Planar) Ranger 5/Rogue 2/Plane Walker 1

If I can attack her from g21, I'll use that previous roll on the spellcaster. If I can't, I will use it on the skeleton in f21 (with spring attack) and likely move to b21 to draw some of the wall of skeletons off. If I can get her diagonally from g21, I'll stay put and threaten her.

female Tiefling 12th level Duskblade

Shouldn't that demon be a large creature? If so there might be a possible AoO for Karrin if this isn't a spell like ability:

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
3d6 + 9 ⇒ (4, 4, 6) + 9 = 23

Will Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22

OK...Think I know what is going on...

Issac sees the woman peering about next to her skeleton friends. He swipes at her with his frigid sword. The icy blade cuts into her leg, drawing a red gash along her thigh.

The woman bares her teeth at the newly-visible Issac and gestures.

She was holding her action to see what you would do. You get an attack of opportunity and a chance to disrupt her casting

The demon points at Karrin and a black ray erupts from its clawed hand.

ATK(ranged touch): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19

The black bolt strikes the enlarged tiefling squarely. She feels suddenly tired

1d4 ⇒ 2

Karrin has gained 2 temporary negative levels, no saving throw.

The demon's eyes flare with a baleful green fire. All the folks around feel a breath of death cross their skin.

Merle's force bolt hits the demon square in the back. It bellows, but continues to advance on Karrin

Everyone who had to make a save for the hold person now needs to make a DC 18 Fortitude save, please. Make your save rolls and post your actions please.

It had two rounds worth of actions. It held its action on rd three until most people were distracted by the dretch (which was kind of the dretch's function. And it could sneak up on the main party. As a courtesy, since you rolled a '20' and 'confirmed' it on Perception, I ruled its invisibility droppped for just a second and you could see the creature. I even gave you the thing's name. I didn't have to do that, it was an adjutation in your favor. The two actions it did, one is a spell-like ability, the other is a free action (the eye gaze attack). I am very well aware of this thing's danger, but you folks are dangerous too.
