Chronicles of the Silver Rose Company

Game Master Patrick Curtin

This campaign is my attempt to play a canonical Planescape campaign using the updated Pathfinder ruleset. The game actually predates the release of Pathfinder, but we have managed to update as we have needed.

Too funny. Has everyone who had to made their DC 18 Fort saves?

After a few moments, Nari feels the paralysis fade. At the same time the last retch from the dretch's stink grabs her stomach in a reverse-peristalsis fiesta. After, she feels very tired and worn, but walking.

Issac attempts to stanch the bleeding stomach wound on the mystery woman. Her breathing is faint and fluttery, her skin a grey pallor. He is hampered by a lack of healer's supplies. He improvises by using the woamns cloak as a pressure bandage, but blood continues to ozze from the gaping wound.

Male Human (Athasian) Cleric 10

Ekuur finds his way over to Isaac. "I understand you wish to save this woman? Very well."

Ekuur reaches down, touches his obsidian holy symbol to her, and the flames leap down off the orb to seal the wounds shut with holy heat.

use his rebuke death domain power. 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 hp healed

who else needs healing?

"Thanks, Ekuur. I reckon she'll have the Dark o' what this was all about. I heard Karrin say she was feelin' right peaked- give her a scan, eh?"

Isaac pulls rope from his pack and binds the unconscious tiefling's hands behind her back, then he'll take a look through her gear.

Female catfolk sorceror 11

While Isaac searches Merle hovers over the new prisoner glowering "Hey check what the bone bags had on em as well." She shouts to Isaac

Male Cat

Seph remains in cat form and simply hangs about Karrin and Nari not wanting to have to deal with Merle when she is in one of her moods.

Human Wiz 12 (Evocation)

Seeing the others charge in and quickly start mopping up the skellies, Justin mutters, "Yes, well, that works too." And tosses the stinky wad of flammable mojo over his shoulder, where it rolls over the edge of the large branch and plummets far below,... where some poor tree-dweller will soon probably think a bird hates him.

The wizard has to cover his mouth with a hand at Karrin's attempt to un-paralyze Nari. But when the slight elf girl recovers, Justin joins in with the others in searching the remains of their opponents. He pays particular attention to the demon's slimy remains, trying to see if it was summoned by a particularly powerful caster, or working with these people of it's own free (if unknowable) will.

"So fearless leader, whose your new girlfriend?" He asks the ranger as he makes his way over to the prisoner.

female Tiefling 12th level Duskblade

"She's not his girlfriend," Karrin snaps a little louder then she intended too, "but I think she will be telling us who she's working for, and she can possibly help us convince this so and so that we don't have whatever it is she's looking for."

Female catfolk sorceror 11

Merle raises an eyebrow at Karrins outburst but otherwise says nothing although a small grin does appear on her face when she is sure Karrin and Isaac arent looking.

Male Half-elf (Planar) Ranger 5/Rogue 2/Plane Walker 1

Isaac raises a surprised eyebrow, shrugs to Ekuur and answers Justin.

"We'll find out when she comes to, cutter. I'm interested in payin' her employers a friendly visit.", he says.

If the mystery tiefling is still unconscious (Isaac covers her ears anyways), he'll add,"D'ye reckon this little dust-up will help convince ye that rod ain't worth holdin' on to? What say they wise up next time an' just try teh bob it on the sly instead o' trying to peel us like a lot o' berks? Some sodding greybeard wants that thing bad enough, there must be some way to track it with magic."

The woman remains unconcious. Stabilized but still at death's door She's running 3 hp below 0 ATM. Her gaping stomach wound has become an angry red scratch thanks to Ekuur's healing magic, but she has lost a lot of blood.

The woman is beautiful, in a sultry barmaid-type of way. She wears loose flowing robes, and has several prominent pieces of jewelery on her. Something about her looks familiar ..

I need a DC 18 Wis check from anyone who started off from Sigil on this adventure (sorry Rhiannon and Quinn)

Nari:

Spoiler:
Something about the woman seems familiar, but Nari just can't seem to place it. The fact her stomach is in knots and it feels like she has just ran ten miles uphill isn't helping things

Male Half-elf (Planar) Ranger 5/Rogue 2/Plane Walker 1

Isaac scratches the back of his neck, shrugging.
"Huh. Mayhap I've seen her around Sigil someplace. She ain't a Godsman, that's fer sure."
Did she have any stuff or incriminating paperwork?

female elan Psion (Kineticist) 10

"There's something about her...I'm almost sure I've seen her before. But I can't remember where. I'm almost certain it was in Sigil, but that leaves an awful lot of options. And then of course there's the possibility that I'm completely and totally wrong."

She has three rings on, a necklace with an odd pendant of a onyx hand with silver rings inlaid on the fingers. There is a belt with pouches attached. Inside is a collection of mithral Hammer pieces (100-or 5,000 GP) , a swirly glass orb with small lines of glass inside, a large black sapphire, and a scroll tube.

Male Half-elf (Planar) Ranger 5/Rogue 2/Plane Walker 1

Isaac makes a small pile of her belongings, taking care with the glass orb. Then he examines the onyx pendant. How many fingers on the hand?

The hand has four fingers and a thumb, distinctly feminine in shape, all encircled with one or more inlaid silver bands. Issac thinks he has seen this symbol before ...

Issac:

Spoiler:
Years ago there was a shakeup in the hierarchy of the Abyss. One of the major powers was penned so far in the dead book that its very name was removed from the fabric of the multiverse by powerful magic.

Its vanquisher, a drow lesser power known as Kiaransalee, became a force to reckon with in the Abyss, taking on the aspect of Demon Princess of Undeath along with her other portfolio of Drow Goddess of Undeath. Her symbol, often seen amongst the elven/drow members of the Dustmen, is an onyx hand with silver rings on its fingers. Issac can't remember exactly, but he seems to recall the number of rings set on the fingers signify the rank of the power's mortal followers.

Female Human Cavalier 8 (Order of the Dragon)

Rhiannon scans the area as the others confer, seated astride her mighty charger as if for all the world he was fully armored and ready rather than suited for sleep.

Male Half-elf (Planar) Ranger 5/Rogue 2/Plane Walker 1

"Don't that beat all.", Isaac says. He holds up the onyx symbol.

"Kiaransalee, Demon Queen and Drow Goddess of Undeath. Penned the old Demon Lord of Undeath in the deadbook so thoroughly no one remembers their name. Reckon we can figure who may have penned those other Powers recently."
He hoists the tiefling over his shoulder and carries her back to the campsite and sets her down.
"What d'ye think, cutters. Wake her up now or in the morning?"

Human Wiz 12 (Evocation)

Justin shakes his head. "I don't recognize her. But my memory is practiced towards memorizing script, not faces." He shrugs.

The wizard frowns almost petulantly at Issac's whispered comments. But he nods slowly, with obvious reluctance. He whispers back,

"There does seem to be more interest in the device than I anticipated. But even if I agreed completely, it's too powerful to destroy easily. Break this thing over your knee, and you'll have more than a fireball to worry about on the World Ash!" he smirks.

"Don't worry, After a quick study I plan on putting it somewhere very safe. And no, I don't mean my apartment. All I need is some idiot to break down my door and p!$$ off my landlady,..." He mutters.

Justin eyeballs the trinkets that Isaac collected, and raises an eyebrow at he explains the ring's symbol.

"Well, since she keeps such nice company, I don't think that she'll mind answering a few questions now rather than later. Besides, she messed up our beauty sleep, It's only fair to return the favor." Justin remarks dryly.

"Not presently. Although were I to have until I next ask the Sacred Flame for my power, I could prepare a spell that could."

Ekuur looks closely at the obsidian symbol as well. "Interesting. You say it represents death, and not fire; I wonder why they would choose the volcanic rock to represent that."

Ekuur wracks his brain to see if he knows anything about it.

Finally, Ekuur will take a look at the others, although he is quite certain there is little he can do for the negative aura impeding their lifeforce. Who needs healing? Speak now or forever hold your peace ...

Male Half-elf (Planar) Ranger 5/Rogue 2/Plane Walker 1

"Fair enough, cutter. We'll rest up and let Ekuur petition the Sacred Flame for a truth spell. Justin, Merle, ye tumble teh givin' her gear a scan? I got a feelin' whatever that demon did teh you cutters will run us a few Hammers to mend. If any o' ye feel weak, ye oughtta sack out. I'll think on whether the ratatosk will be able to fix ye up or if we need to ride back to Crux. Whatever waits fer us at the Warpwood ain't catchin' us at less than our best."

I'm only down five hp. Karrin may need lesser restoration from the enervation spell. How many are down a permanent negative level? So we have: a scroll tube, three rings, a black sapphire and a glass orb, along with 5000 gp to put toward a Restoration.

female elan Psion (Kineticist) 10

I'm down a negative level. Didn't get hit at all though due to spending the combat in statue mode, so no need for healing. Ah well, since I had only 3 power points left going in I wasn't going to be much use in this one anyway. :)

The symbol is actually crafted of onyx inlaid with silver, and is about 1/2 scale to what an actual hand would be.

Ekuur wrote:

Ekuur:

Spoiler:
In his small time in Sigil he has seen this symbol before, most often on dark elven clerics in the Temple District. From what he has heard among the rumors spoken of this priesthood is that they are necromancers and bodysnatchers. Their goddess traffics with demons, and is considered a demon princess in her own right. Her clergy are suspicious and cunning, and her secondary aspect is as a goddess of vengance. It is said that her clergy in Sigil are held high among the councils of the Dustmen.

The ratatosk 'nest' is not too far from your position.

Human Wiz 12 (Evocation)

Justin nods at Isaac's words, then glances at Karrin and the others, the worried look plainly visible.

"Right, let us at the trinkets, we'll have them figured out in no time. Merle, Which do you want to inspect first?,..."

Justin figures that if they both try to ID everything, there's less chance of a mistaken ID. Last thing we need now is to put on a cursed item,... ;P

I'm only down five hp. Karrin may need lesser restoration from the enervation spell. How many are down a permanent negative level? So we have: a scroll tube, three rings, a black sapphire and a glass orb, along with 5000 gp to put toward a Restoration.

Lesser restoration doesn't work here, I think. Pretty sure negative levels require at least a restoration, which I can't cast yet (I will be able once I hit 7th level). Other limitations: to dispel a permanent negative level, it requires the 1000gp diamond dust component. It also only works 1/week, so if anyone has more than that, it'll take either a greater restoration or more time. And the greater spell has a cost of 5000gp. How many people have negative levels, and does anyone have more than one?

He responds to Isaac, "I will petition for the spell, or perhaps two. Priests have a strong Will, and it isn't unlikely she will be able to resist the spell better than some."

If the group decides to rest, Ekuur will expend spells and energy channels to make sure everyone is at max HP.

The enervation spell didn't go off because of the iniative misunderstanding. Only the creature's gaze attack, which bestowed a permanaent level drain. From what I read Ekuur is correct about the 1K component, but no one has more than one level drained.

Oblivious to Merle's eye roll, Justin continues his examination.
