Chronicles of the Silver Rose Company

Game Master Patrick Curtin

This campaign is my attempt to play a canonical Planescape campaign using the updated Pathfinder ruleset. The game actually predates the release of Pathfinder, but we have managed to update as we have needed.

"Alright. SHORT version. Veridis, we need to get the portal warded by a 'Protection from Evil'. Do you have anyone in town who can do that? Or do one of us need to do it?"

Veridis ponders

"I really don't think it would help much. More gilding on the lilly, as they say. The stone fetishes the priests of Pelor installed along the trade route have proved their puissnace against any undead ever seen before. If an undead can circumvent them I am sure a protection from evil spell will not faze them in the slightest."

Veridis ponders some more

"I am sure I can find someone if you give me a few hours, if you feel it is truly neccessary."

Inits Rd 3:
Porcelian Face: 23 [closing]
Merle: 20 [Mag mis]
Nari: 15 [Manifest Agony]
Seph: 11 [Curing Roth]

Merle fires an arcane bolt into the creature. The thing hisses as the force strikes its ameoba-like mass. The hideous monster moves towards Nari. Her eyes glow an unearthly hue as she manifests an agony of the past to torment the abberation:

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13

The creature screeches and an odd thing occurs. Its form twists and suddenly a massive bipedal vulture-looking creature appears in its place. It screams as a wound opens up on its sagging skin. Then as soon as it appears, the vultureoid form reverts to the translucent mask form. It advances and its two wicked claws lash out at Nari.

Round Four:
Porcelian Face: 23 [Atk-Nari]
Merle: 20 [pending]
Nari: 15 [pending]
Seph: 11 [pending]

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 111d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 261d8 ⇒ 71d8 ⇒ 8

One claw strikes the ground, the other rakes Nari across the left thigh. Blood wells from the deep slashes.

Eight damage.

Meanwhile, in the waking world ...

While the party discusses what action to take, Nari's slumbering form cries out. A spreading red stain begins to form on her upper left leg. The tough linen trousers she wears are soon soaked with blood.

Female catfolk sorceror 11

Seeing the thing attack Nari Merle yells trying to help "Rememer Nari this is all just a fake dream." Before she blasts it again.

Nari hissed in pain as the claw sliced into her leg, but didn't flinch. She looked the creature in the eye and smiled.
"One more scar to add to the collection. Do you think that really bothers me anymore? Think again. But you don't seem to be too fond of reminders of your past. I wonder....what were you back then? Not a ghost, that's for damn sure. Not a ghost now either I bet."

Her eyes glow once more as she manifests another power.

Manifesting Share Pain, Forced. DC 17 Fort save for the creature or for the next 6 rds I take half damage from all attacks and the creature takes the rest. So if I got hit with another 8 points of damage I would only take four and the creature would take for, as an example.

She glanced over at Merle and winked, acknowledging that she heard what Merle had said about this being a dream.

Male Half-elf (Planar) Ranger 5/Rogue 2/Plane Walker 1

Isaac raises an eyebrow at the spreading wound on Nari's thigh.
"Well, reckon at least Nari's made contact. Let's try this..."
He digs through his belt pouch of potions and pulls out one of the clay tiles from the Illuminated's fortress, snapping it over the elf when she's wounded again.

If Nari gets hurt a little more, Isaac will use the cure moderate tile.
CMW: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (6, 4) + 3 = 13

Wrong time to identify in character, but I have a potion, scroll and ring from the Khaasta we can look at.

Human Wiz 12 (Evocation)

Justin also examines Nari's leg, shaking his head.

"Amazing. Actual physical manifestation of psychic trauma. I've heard of people dying in their dreams before, but this,..." He shakes his head again, and looks at the others who are looking at him.

"What? I never said it was a good thing! Fortunately the gash is long, but fairly shallow. A minor wound compared to some of what we've taken recently."

He nods at Isaac's preparations. "Good thinking. There's no reason to believe that the transference is only one way. Seems we can help while out here after all!"

"I wonder, if maybe the proximity of the dead-world portal hasn't caused me to presume too much. What Nari said about the creature,... and the way it reacted when she escaped, Not typical undead behavior."

After a few more moments he muses aloud. "I wonder, if we cast Prot from Evil on F'Tsar if it would kick out the creature from him like it did from Nari? No guarantee, I'm sure that most of that was still Nari's mental prowess. And even if it did work, the creature might still be free, and just jump to another body. Better if it can be defeated, especially on it's home turf. I guess we'll take your advice Veridis, and wait to see how they fare against the creature." he says, gesturing to the slumbering trio.

Justin digs the heel of his hand into his forehead.

"I hate waiting." He grumbles.

Oh yeah, thx Isaac! I also have a wand I picked up that we need to ID ;P

Male Half-elf (Planar) Ranger 5/Rogue 2/Plane Walker 1

Isaac grins crookedly.
"Oi, cutter: any way ye can shrink Karrin and send her through Nari's ear? Maybe she could speed this up eh? Nothin' worse than a bored Basher!", he jokes.

Female Human Cavalier 8 (Order of the Dragon)

Rhiannon looks at the wound on Nari's leg as Issac heals it, a resolute expression on her face. She walks towards the elf's body a sliver of light shining from under the neck guard and breastplate off her armor as she extends a hand.

A glow falls upon Nari matche by one on Rhiannon herself.

"Hopefully this will keep her going longer."

Shield other. Rhiannon will take half of Nari's damage from here on out.

Sorry folks been a VERY long and busy week. Trying to update. If I miss anything shout out.

Rhiannon touches Nari and begins to glow. Nari picks up some of the glow.

Issac breaks a tile over Nari and the thigh wound heals, lesaving only a red stain where it had been.

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14

Nari concentrates on sharing her pain. Merle fires off another bolt of arcane energy

Gimmie a WIll roll Merele and we'll see if you can do anything [not saying you can-but try anyway]

Seph and the weakened Roth stumble towards the line of tombs. Seph can see undead shifting and shuddering about in the ruins

Roth looks stricken

"There's nowhere to hide."

The zombies start to congregate around the standing stones

Wow. Remember the days when you could have a PbP, and not post in it for a few days and it would remain above the fold? My how our little playground has grown!

In the Graveyard of Dreams:

Nari notices a glow attaches itself to her. Not silver as the glow Justin had conferred upon her in her first waking moments, this blue-colored one siphons off a bit of the pain from the small cut the monster made on her arm.

Rhiannon, you take 1 hp of the 3 hp Nari was taking, and Nari only takes 2.

Seph and Roth are covered in a thick fog as they race towards the stone tombstones. They hear the moans and shuffles of the many undead. Seph desperately racks his brain for a way to escape

I already rolled a save for Roth, and he's not going anywhere yet. Seph, if you want to giv e me a Will save please, I will see if you can break the hold this place has on you

Merle fires more arcane energy at the hideous monster. She feels strong and trys and experiment. Several undead pawing about the edges of their area suddenly blast to shreds. The catfolk sorceress suddenly feels as if she's in control of the dream.

Waiting on Nari's action, then a new round

Meanwhile ...In Crux ...

Another, smaller wound appears on Nari, but it is no more than a bad cut from a kitchen knife might do. Rhiannon hisses almost inaudibaly as a smallish scratch appears on her arm.

Veridis looks about at the group.

"Did you wish me to find a priest? I am beginning to see the merit of you assertion that this mental malady is more of a spiritual rather than a physical matter."

"So much pride, so little reason for it," Nari taunted the creature. "You've bit off more than you can chew this time."

Recognizing she's starting to run a little low on resources, Nari draws her bow and shoots at the creature, using her ability to give the arrow a little extra push so it would bite deeper if it hits.

To hit: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Damage: 3d6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 2, 4) + 1 = 10

Male Human (Athasian) Cleric 10

Ekuur responds to Veridis. "I assure you, I am able to help in that regards."

how many hp is Nari at? Ekuur will trade in a spell for a cure spell, but I'm not sure what level of healing is warranted.

Rules mavens: Is there a rule about using ranged weapons when engaged in close melee? I can't find one in the PRD, so I am assuming it is ok.

Nari's arrow hits the porcelain-faced monster, but it is hard to tell if it has any effect, since the thing doesn't bleed.

"I tire of these games." The creature hisses

Suddenly the thing vanishes. The graveworld and the moaning zombies all begin to disappear. Seph sees Roth vanish and the group opens its eyes to see their concerned party members standing over them.

Actions??

If you're threatened in melee and use a ranged weapon, you provoke an attack of opportunity.

Isaac leans over Merle, Seph and Nari.

"So... how'd it go?"

female elan Psion (Kineticist) 10

I probably should have taken a five foot step back first. Otherwise I think I provoked an AoO. Oops. Was a little distracted while posting.

Nari cursed quite colorfully, having a surprisingly large vocabulary of crude phrases to choose from.

"It kicked us out. It was working. We had it distracted, we might have even been able to save Ser F'Tsar. But it kicked us out of its mental plane and now it's going to kill him and there's nothing more I can do to stop it," she added tears running down her face.

Only to quickly return to his feet, crossbow in hand. "Alright, we can discuss this later. Let's investigate."

Yes, I'm still here. Just... didn't have much to say.

Male Half-elf (Planar) Ranger 5/Rogue 2/Plane Walker 1

"Ye tried, cutter. Best ye could.", he says to Nari.
Isaac offers a hand to the ladies and Seph before following Quinn.
"I'd reckon it's too late to do more'n witness the poor sod penned in the deadbook at this point, but..."

Human Wiz 12 (Evocation)

Justin matches NAri's crude phrases with a few inventive ones of his own at the sound of the wailing from inside.

"We're not watching anyone die without a fight! And this ones not over yet! Ekuur! Quinn! Move it! We've got a man to keep alive!" He shouts as he pushes himself to his feet and runs full tilt back inside,...

Male Human (Athasian) Cleric 10

Although hesitant to go back in after being thrown out, Ekuur grips his obsidian symbol and heads back in after Justin.

The party whoever wants to runs back into the Woodworker's Guild. All activity has stoppped, the various workers milling about looking confused and apprehensive at the loud scream that has echoed out.

As they run into the center work space Marlus appears at the top of the balcony leading back to the private area where they had seen Roth.

"YOU! YOU KILLED HIM!" She screeches, her eyes wide with madness. In her hands is a large hurricane lamp filled with oil. She casts it down into a bin full of wood shavings below. There is a *whoosh* sound and the sawdust begins to flame up, causing the assembled workers to gasp in fright.

"NOW I WILL CLEANSE THIS CORRUPTION OF THE MOTHER!" Marlus screams.

How high up is the balcony if I wanted to climb up and grapple her?

female elan Psion (Kineticist) 10

I fear she is not evil, only misguided. Let me past your wall of blasphm ... cold, so that I may extinguish these flames."

Manifest specified energy adaptation against fire. Ekuur's intent is start using create water cantrips next to put out the flames.

Human Wiz 12 (Evocation)

"I thought I was flame-happy!" Justin murmurs in a moment of shock as the flames leap from the woodshavings bin.

He snaps out of it, and dashes for the stairs as the others also burst into movement.

"Restrain her! But don't hurt her! I think I finally know what's going on! You workers don't just stand there! Get some water and douse that fire!" He shouts as he runs. He pauses at the bottom of the steps only long enough to turn and see who is doing what.

"Quinn! With me! We need healing!" He cries, turning and huffing up the stairs, his long legs taking the steps two at a time.

"WHY do I always seem to be running TOWARDS trouble?!?" He grumbles as he climbs,...

RUN action, double move, whatever it takes, trying to get to F'Tsar and hoping that whatever the creature did to him, it's not so far into negs that a Stabilize and Cures can't fix it! ;P
