@Twilsemail, don't withdraw just because there are so many other applicants. That's the way these recruitment threads go. You never know, you just may have the concept that makes the GM say 'That's just the character I had in mind for this'.
@Lexibean, if you want (and have powerpoint) I have a fairly simple program I use for mapping. I just crop and layer the grid over the map, and insert pics. Then I use flikr to post them. Others use google.docs (but I'm not a fan, and it actually seems like a fair amount of work for fairly crude maps). Lastly there is dabbleboard, which allows each user to move their own icons (but allows them to move others as well). If you want an idea of how my maps work, look to my profile where I run two PbP's (one of which is S&S, but I was running it when I played with this character prior, and maintain separation of Player/Character knowledge).

I've got most of the crunch and fluff sorted out for a Grippli Cleric of Besmara.
This, by the way, is me un-withdrawing from the campaign.
I should have a background up in the next... time period and will have crunch on request. I went searching for inspirational photos of the PC, figuring that there were probably at least a few Grippli Pirate images out there. This is what I found. I can't get the picture out of my head now. Brillup the Dart will have a profile and story up soon.

This young man’s skin is red-bronzed by years in the sun and his longish dark hair is well tangled by the winds and falls to his muscular shoulders. A closely trimmed beard and his well-kept gear show a fastidiousness and carefulness that belie the colorful Vasirian scarves that he wears about his leathers in the fashion of the Sczarni. Dark, intelligent eyes keenly take in his surroundings, as one hand drifts towards a well-worn oiled leather pouch that seems to hold a squarish object about the size of a deck of cards.
Born near the docks of Magnimar to a long line of Sczarni fortunetellers, Astein grew up in the city dreaming of becoming a great warrior and leading a life of adventure. Though exceptionally intelligent, becoming a warrior and blademaster were his childhood dreams, based in part on the fact that his father – killed as a tuff in a clan turf war – was famous for his skill with the greatsword. Not wanting that for her son, his mother also trained him in the Harrowing and Astein humored her by sitting long hours with his grandmother learning the ways of the fortuneteller. Unfortunately for Astein, however, the old deck attuned to him and, on his sixteenth nameday, told his fate with great alacrity.
For a full month every time a Harrowing was performed by or upon Astein the same cards fell in the same way – and no interpretation could be reached that Astein was under a fateful curse. The Harrowing, repeated in such specificity, indicated that whatever city Astein made his home, great misfortune would befall all around him and eventually Astein would die in misery. One week after the Harrowing first showed the curse, Astein’s youngest sister was trampled by a runaway carriage and left crippled. The following week a slate shingle fell and crushed his mother’s shoulder. One week later, his grandmother died of a stroke. The Harrowing still told misfortunes ahead and Astein fled the city on the first boat he could find.
For two years Astein wandered, and as long as he did not spend much time in the same place, his own Harrowings bore normal tidings, and he could predict the futures of others. As soon as he grew comfortable, however, the cursed Harrowings would return, and if he stayed to long ill-fortune would follow. To solve the issue, Astein took work as a sailor, learning the craft easily with his keen mind, and learning the ways of the world. Whenever he arrived in a port, Astein sought out hedge wizards and preachers to see if they had heard of a curse such as his, but no luck. Astein would spend several months on a ship sailing and learning, but eventually the ship would return to its home port – and as soon as it did the cursed Harrowing would begin again. Astein would have to find a new ship and a new start, uprooting himself again.
These travels continued for two years, until a wandering priest of Besmara observed Astein’s perform the Harrowing when it showed the curse. The priest realized that Astein was unfortunate enough to be a Chosen of Besmara, called to the life of piracy – and no other life could he have. The next Harrowing Astein drew showed him that this was true – he was cursed to have no home but a ship that had no home, called by Besmara to a life of piracy. Knowing at least there was a live he could lead, Astein took crew with a disreputable ship and began to turn his growing sailor skills to the life of piracy. Since then, his Harrowings have been clean and deadly accurate and Astein only knows peace when he is aboard a ship and without a home.
Considering himself cursed, there is a dull acceptance and depression that permeates Astein's existence. Knowing that he can never truly have a home or return to his family and clan has made Astein a dark, brooding presence with a tendency towards bitter sarcasm and pessimism. This attitude is a sharp contrast to his significant abilities both physically and intellectually, and his attitude rarely prevents him from stepping up to do what must be done. He has the makings of a highly capable seaman and if he had the personality to take the lead on a boat, would someday surely make captain. Without that drive and personality, however he still provides an able hand on deck.
Not able to have a true family or home, Astein feels very possessive and protective of his crewmates and companions. While he is not overly personable he is someone who can be relied upon to do his part and help his substitute family however he can. By promoting the goals of his crew and companions and helping them gain wealth and notoriety, he feels that being the best pirate he can be is the only way to defy what he feels is his cursed fate.
When not otherwise occupied, Astein has a habit of constantly shuffling and cutting his Harrow deck, often mindlessly performing tricks. This deck is also often the source of Astein’s rare glimpses of excitement – fortunetelling. When performing a Harrowing and having the cards fall as they are destined to and not showing his curse, Astein feels reconnected to the life he could have had, had not his own destiny taken him away, and he trusts with certainty that his great skill and attunement with his Harrow deck give true fortunes.

Here's what I've got for a background.
Where better to travel than to Port Peril if one wants to take on the life of a pirate. He strapped on his rapier and pulled on his fancy new coat. Wished his mother, father and many siblings well and set off to become the pirate he knew he was meant to be. Before he left town, he was gifted a fine looking bicorn by one of the priests of Besmara.
Upon arriving in Port Peril, life wasn’t as easy as Brillup might have hoped. He wasn’t exactly welcomed with open arms. Many said he was too small to be of any use to them. After a few weeks of this, Brillup was excited to see a crew of gnomish pirates. Surely, he thoughts to himself, these are the folk who will take me in.
It turned out that Brillup had more of a temper than he knew about. When he was told that he was “too green” for the crew, he stabbed the gnome in the eye. He’s spent the last few days drowning his sorrows in the Formidably Maid tavern.
Let me know what you think or if you have questions. It'll be more fleshed out by the start of the adventure.
I've got a profile up here, now.

Something that I've done for PBPs I've run in the past is set up a GoogleDocs (or site of choice) option, create maps in MapTools, then screenshot the maps and upload them to the site. That way, people can reference the image as they try to decide what they want to do. You can enable grid coordinates, so it's easy to say, "Lexibean moves to square B23, traveling around the area threatened by Customs Agent 1."
As far as running PBP combat, I always asked people to post a primary option, with one or two back-up options in case the primary option was no longer available.
Ex: Brillup takes a step back from Customs Agent 1, pulls out his crossbow, and fires a bolt at the man's stomach. If Lexibean has already dropped him, instead fire at the nearest Customs Agent not engaged in combat. If all Customs Agents are engaged in combat, instead shift and cast Cure Light Wounds on Sarenth.
My backup character is Gumz Bigtracker, Goblin Rogue.

Looks like we found our captain! No one would dare fight against us if they saw that handsomely dressed scoundrel leading our fearsome crew!

Hmmm, bump up the 4 to a 7? Tempting. I'm torn though. with that 4, it'll be hard to put together some of the concepts I have, but at the same time, I kinda hate the feeling that I'd be wussing out of what the dice gave me. Decisions, decisions...
Oh, and yes. I would totally sail with a frog captain. do it.

Got an idea forming for a saucy, whip-wielding lass who can keep sailors in line, dish out some pain, and make things happen. Only thing is, I'm torn between classes now. I like the rogue's pirate archetype for obvious reasons, but I'm also quite intrigued by the free hand fighter archetype, since both are, at least in theory, EXTREMELY compatible with a whip.
Since we're starting at level 1, though, I can't have both. CHOICES!!! ARGH!!! Might have to multiclass later, heh.
And yes, the fluff is coming along too. It's kind of a side by side thing this time, but usually one comes first. I'm weird like that.

I'm finally reading through all the ship-to-ship combat details in the players' guide, and I'm seeing why the earlier part recommended boring skills like craft (ships) or profession (siege engine). I'm getting the feeling that the chosen players may need to do some coordination in the discussion thread before beginning gameplay to make sure we can cover all our bases.
I could easily change Kale Moore to being a carpenter rather than a dock worker. He's burned out by it in Eleder, but he'll find a new pride in it when it comes to repairing our own captured ships.
As a Fighter with the Tactician archtype, he'll have more skill points to take on some of what we'll need, access to Diplomacy as a class skill, a bunch of feats that he can use on the siege engineer feats, and while his fighting prowess may not be all that, he'll have some teamwork feats he can share with his allies w/in 30 feet while we board an enemy ship.

Is Fiendish Heritage from blood of fiends ok?
Anyway I rolled just in case, I mainly just want to be Demon-Spawn though for the stat bonuses (+2 Str, +2 Cha, -2 Int). Also I was going to incorporate my lineage into my backstory.
edit: If so I will choose the DR 2/Cold Iron. (68)
If not, then can I at least have the heritage? :D
If double not, then I will change it to the regular Tiefling. :)

I would like to apply with Roslic, Human (Varisian) Cleric of Gozreh.
Roslic is a born traveler. He never likes to stay in one place too long and enjoys the thrill of adventure. Roslic is carefree, non-judgmental and has little concern about what is good or evil, or the balance there-of. It is very hard to offend Roslic, as he simply smiles or laughs at people who treat him poorly. He also has a unique link with sea animals and often spends time talking to such creatures. Those people that befriend him though, he openly shares the gifts of the Sea with.
Race: Human (Varisian)
Class: Cleric
Domains: Water and Animal
Channeling: Positive Energy
Alignment: True Neutral
Feats: Selective Channeling and Versatile Channeler
Traits: Savannah Child (Handle Animal) and Touched by the Sea (Campaign Trait)

Kale Moore
Human Chelaxian Fighter (Tactician)
38 years old (middle-aged)
Shortly after the carpenter retired, selling his business to him, Kale's son became sick. Arden suffered for four years, during which Kale spent all his money trying to find someone who could cure him. He lost the business and had to return to the docks. After Arden finally passed, Kale's wife, Danae, had a nervous breakdown. She turned to alcohol, and as Kale withdrew with his own grief, she began carousing with other men in the bars along the docks. Kale moved out, and has continued working, miserable, on the docks, but he's been saving some gold.
Now 38, he had nothing to lose, so he decided to finally pursue his childhood dream. He managed to bribe his way onto a vessel heading to Port Peril. On the sea, he knew he'd made the right decision. In Port Peril, he had a few drinks at some tavern called the Formidably Maid. After leaving, a little tipsy, he paused to look out at the ocean with an optimism he hasn't felt since he was a kid. Then, he got hit in the back of the head, and the world went dark.

Working up my first concept now. rogue(pirate) with a whip focus, covers a skillbase good for pirating, sailing, and trading, a little light on some of the hallmark rogueish stuff (read: traps) for flavoring and practicality purposes. She could probably be brawn or brains, somewhere in between I guess. I kind of imagine her ending up as a boatswain of sorts, among other things. You know, the disciplinarian. The one who cracks the whip when someone's dragging feet or thinking of mutiny. It's only a start, but I'm trying to shape some backstory now. Should have some kind of update soon.
Looking at that applicant list, though, I might just see about something more arcane as an alternate app.

"All hands on deck, you scaberous dogs! Weigh anchor and hoist that sail! Make quick time to port or it's the lash for ya! Captain's got us a merry hold to plunder and we best not miss our winds on account of lead legs or there'll be a scarlet scar for every foot dragged!!"
Say hi to Isabella. I remade her into a fighter, seemed to work out better with her story, least it felt that way. She'll keep that ship ship-shape for ya, no doubt. she'll also leave a lot of painful marks on anything that tries to start a fight.
WH-TSH!! "MOVE, landlubber!"
YEOW! Moving!

Sorry Red, your post about the siege mage made it appear that he was replacing Reck.
I’m only posting primary applications in this list, the GM can consider things however he or she likes. Without backups, we have over twenty applicants. Backups seem like overkill, IMHO.
The list has been updated to reflect the applications above. Again, if I've miscategorized your PC, let me know and I can update the list again.
