The desk has a multitude of tools: chisels, files, lenses, scales, and a strange apparatus with a hose ending in a needle. There are also a few pieces of uncut quartz, and one very finely cut gem: a long clear spindle that detects as magic.

The magic stone is an ioun stone, and it's design allows the user to survive without food or water.

By way of explanation, Elia picked up the stone and set it orbiting about her head, "It sustains you without food or water," she said before recapturing it and letting it rest in her hand.

The tools were interesting in their own right as well.

Bhookaaj finds nothing irregular about the metal circle. However, he finds that his magic amulet is now glowing a bright, golden yellow, while his machete glows a fiery orange-red.

The second floor of the tower seems to be a central room with a larger chamber encircling it. On one side of the room is a table with a number of stools. On the other side is a number of shelves that are mostly empty. Looking over the shelves is a skum that wears an assortment of items, as well as an elaborately carved glaive. Upon seeing the party, it yells something in an unknown, burbling language and charges forward, pointing its glaive.

This seemed like a good opportunity to put the new wand to use so, after moving to get a clear path for the spell to travel, Elia sent a fiery sphere rolling gently towards the skum.

”Wish we could ask, they just seem to want to fight.” Ebirah says as he marches over to meet the Skum.

The skum recoils from the rolling flames and manages to dodge around them, shifting the movement into a seaward slash at the advancing Ebirah. It manages to get past his defenses to draw blood, while using its glaive’s long haft to maintain a wide gap between the combatants.

Elia quietly directed the ball of fire to creep up behind the skum, aiming to divert its attention at the least, and set it on fire at best. Meanwhile, she closed ranks with the others, ready to provide support.

Valdern moves forward and tries to get a good hit on the skum. The tip of the spear head straight for a weak spot, but at the last second, Valdern lose sight of the target and he is unsure if he hit flesh or armor.

Elia let the sphere continue to do its thing (such as it was), while acting to provide some protection to the others.

One last round of directing the sphere to continue assaulting the skum, and using protective ward to grant a +1 deflection to AC within 10 feet. 3d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 5) = 15 fire damage, DC 13 reflex negates.
