I've brought the entire Breaking Bad series... plus Deadwood... plus the Blood and Ice Cream trilogy... and I'm hoping that'll get me through the five days in Bintulu and two weeks offshore :P

Having listened to Dread Crew of Oddwood a number of times now they're definitely growing on me more and more. So much win, and so much in tune with Dibbets' view on the sea... Case in point:

Yeah - 2 on 2 off is a short rotation... but it balances out when you realise the short offshore is matched by a short onshore as well.
I'll try and sneak a post or two in while I'm out there.. but no guarantees as usual.
I'll also throw down a post in thread with some generalities in terms of Dibbs way forwards for the return trip.

Trip was sh1te... I ended up making a fish in the hole and spending 7-8 days getting 'most' of it back out again. That and some minor work collywobbles made it a fairly crap one week standby and two weeks offshore. That said, out of it for a wee bit so may as well enjoy meself :P
Sorry for the slow-go coming back on guys - a couple of work issues and the kids have sapped out me energy thus far.

Hello friends.
I just read through the muster thread and see that bad news abounds on the job front. I got furloughed myself a few months back. Technically I still have a job there but there is no work. There is a promise of work in the future, but that promise has gotten weaker as the weeks rolled by. So I have started to look for other work and that freaked out my old boss who still wants me to be available...ugh. The good news is I have some leads that have shown interest and I should have something in hand either new or old in the next week or two. So I hope I am coming out of my funk.
The furlough came right after last time I popped my head up. That punch to the gut and the site being unresponsive for two weeks during the Humble Bundle deal sort of knocked me from the web, so sorry about disappearing.
I have taken my down time to buckle down and finish my novel. This week I started sending the first half out to those interested in reviewing it. I know everything is chaotic right now for this crowd, but if anyone does want to take a gander at it, let me know as I will gladly look for input at whatever level you can offer.
Mark, I saw your Linkedin request this week. I don't know if you consciously sent that or not (I don't trust Linkedin to not mine my contact list to blindly send out requests on my behalf). But if you had, thanks for reminding me that it has been too long since I said hello to you fellows and your special brand of insanity. I want to get back in the habit of hanging out here again. Despite the logic of it, I think it will be good for my psyche.

the Groom! Good to hear from you again, my Friend! Sad to hear about economic distress. It seems to be a symptom of a still rather spotty recovery. Glad to hear that the novel is coming along though. Hopefully, work will show up on cue! I managed a career shift this year from Oakland science teacher to Nevada County planner so it can be done : ) about the same pay, but A.LOT.LESS.STRESS.
living in the country has also given me much more time to read so if you like, I'd be happy to take a look at your work. most of my writing has been work-related environmental documents.
Since your last visit it appears that the crew has finally gained a ship... if they can get her back afloat and happen survive one of the weirdest adventures they've yet had!

I have run the gamut this last two weeks of potentially having the consultancy get closed to no job to back to work on the 20th to 13th to tomorrow. Any time you get a bit of balance a suckerpunch seems to come along and knock it a kilter. Hence I have been 'orrible company in thread as the ennui and lethargy work thru. Looks like now we are good through to the end of the year... but after that is a ?

Oil & Gas globally is running lean with some theatres (such as North Sea) running leaner than many. Know Mark's been pushed through the grinder and the boards are lesser for it.

New Mexico has a big oil and gas presence that has taken the same hit it sounds like you guys are suffering. The state tax income has dropped as well and they are cutting back state parks and the state library hours as the initial impact.
Hey Cap'n. What county are you at? Kinda surprised at the low stress level with the water situation out there. I have done some water related work in Clark and Churchill. But I guess it is not in your face crazy. My brother is a town planner in Connecticut. It is a quaint community that fights big development. He hasn't been burned in effigy yet but I am sure some developers have thought about it.

The grinder has indeed happened - though the light's at the end of the tunnel come end of September... that is that the current 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off jobbie comes to a close (the position's getting nationalized) and I'm back in the open market again. The manager seems to be bullish on getting me into some sort of gainful employ... but it's wait and see time.
the Groom- I'm with Nevada County, CA- west side of the Sierras from Tahoe. Economy here is mainly pot. As for local politics, kind of a split between cowboys and hippies. I'm mid-level so out of the firing zone for now.
Having lived in NM and AZ, I am really surprised that Ca's water law is so far behind. They haven't really looked at groundwater at all. In the past, surface water from the Sierras has been abundant, but climate disruption has nixed that and Ca is gonna have to catch up which they are starting to do.
Bigger problem is wild fire. There are dead trees everywhere. I moved out here figuring I was pre-adapted for arid lands having lived in NM and AZ so long ; ) I imagine that's where we're headed. NorCal is still faring better than SoCal though.

Off again for another oilfield vacation on Monday - though this time it'll be for three weeks. So will be incognito from the 5th through to the 27th September. This 'should' be the last offshore stint with this client though, so hopefully my company will pick up some office work come October and I'll get an extended stint back in KL.
Once again apologies for the intermittent and sporadic involvement... though again hopefully it'll improve after this trip.
Nae worries Haggis - hopefully it'll be a quick and uneventful one mate.

Question for you Kaul. Back when I was one of your PCs in the beginning of your Kingmaker Campaign, were you using 'Tales of the Old Margreve' as the first encounter? I am liking going to run either Kingmaker or Righteous for my home group soon. With Kingmaker I am looking for some filler and came across this pdf. I liked the vibe you gave the campaign and was wondering if that was a source and what did you think of the rest of it that we didn't get to see?

Aye was indeed Tales of Old Margreve for both flavour and intro and ultimately wee side plots.
You guys were knee deep in the first installment - Richard Pett's gloriously grim Hollow when alas I had to step away (that one and the Iobarian Saga still rankle like old wounds...)
The adventures have a real Grimm(dark) fairy tales feel about them - some are more feysome high jinx and others are pretty creepy - I liked the balance and rated it very highly (hence the inclusion) - would heartily recommend mate. Definitely would give KM a different feel and tie very well into the fey themes of the AP.
Thats what I thought. Thanks for the rec. Don't beat yourself up too much, we had fun, and LIFE happens. I am the living proof of that.

I'll give Old Margreve a thumbs up as well. I was going to use bits for a Falcon's Hollow campaign at one point. I have nearly as much dark fey inspiring stuff as I do pirate stuff.
Speaking of Pirates, I would assume next steps are bailing back to Freeport for serious repairs. the Groom's welcome to make a cameo or rejoin if you've the time and interest.
