Oh, I thought that Nestor was Whitecoat in disguise--there was a certain ambiguity as to how he came to be in Whitecoat's prison pits just after the gnome took a powder, and why he wanted to get back to the sewers quickly.

Like an eponymous Scooby Doo villain - Whitecoat gets unmasked to reveal...
Nestor!
I would have got away with it, if it weren't fer you pesky swabs!

No worries. Work's a bear for me this week and holiday weekend up so I don't know I'll be posting until Tues either.

Home interwebs down again (were fixed Monday)... apparently being (re)fixed today.
Work posting will be sporadic as ongoing offshore headaches are sucking up my time!
Nudge Kaul along as/if necessary.

Day 16 and counting of this trip... and they're just about to start a flow test that could take anywhere from 7-28 days... and oh... my offsider's done his back so willnae be comin back (which ain't necessarily a wholly bad thing - as $$ is $$).
So looks like I'll be out here on the rig for a wee while longer... could be worse... lobster's been on the menu about 5 times I think? - two sets of shio ramen, salmon or mackerel every meal...
"Keelhaul" Kaul |
Feck me Mark - you'll be the only offshore hand I know with gout! :)
For my part home webs still acting up and now work server won't allow access to paizo! Techpocaypse!
Can still post with phone but it's a massive chew so bear with me if I slow things up!
"Keelhaul" Kaul |
He's kicking about in another game I'm in... so he's here or hereabouts :)
Maybe it was the piazo site - weird.
I'm now using my work phone as a modem for my macbook so far so good... (of course I need to access emails etc for duty rota heheh.)

I'm traveling this weekend, and am posting from my phone. Jim will go after whichever one is standing after Dingus acts.

I'm gonna have to quit taking new spells and slots, and start upping my saves. IMHO P6 definitely evens out the power curve. In normal Pathfinder, you start out weak as a spellcaster, knowing that if you survive you become very powerful. In P6 you still start out weak, but level out, and don't surpass the more martial classes.
Pathfinder New Level: 2-new spells, 1-2 new slots, saves, HP, HD (Spells more powerful), feats, skill points.
P6: 4 of the above.
Fighters more or less don't change: HP, Saves, Feats, BAB.
Not really complaining, just have to know going in, that you start weak, then really don't become powerful. I would definitely rethink playing a spellcaster in P6. I think it can work... just need to take a different strategy. Especially as a spontaneous caster without access to the amount of spells that can be selected in a spellbook by a traditional wizard. Perhaps concentrate on a couple of spells, and making them more powerful through meta-magic.
Cap'n Voodoo |
All that from a couple failed saves? you know that you would have made them if you'd rolled higher than a 10. A 50/50 chance of saving is pretty standard, you just don't have any outstanding saves. It might be worth your while to find a fairly common cloak of resistance +1 (though Dingus seems to prefer less clothing!) or maybe take a save booster feat. you've got plenty of feats ahead.
I'd agree that casters don't get to outrace everyone at higher levels with P6, but I wouldn't agree that they are totally nerfed. Dingus won't likely keep up with the damage output of our front line, true; but I don't really think that that is the optimum role of a caster anyway. I think arcane caster shine more in the utility and control realm- maybe more control for sorcerers since they have limited spell availability.
I'm happy to help on blasting though if that's what you want to focus on, i.e. the 'Spinal Tap' gem to boost lightning bolt damage. I'll even offer that we can unlock the forcefang ring for a swarm of fangs effect- say that the ability burns 3 charges with a 3 round duration.
This would allow Dingus to swap out that L3 spell for maybe something more controlling or manipulative to work with his CHA. This crew has maximized the old intimidate, but suggestion might be easier and more effective sometimes. or some other enchantment, illusion, or necromancy spell. Serpentfolk have a long history of worshiping Outer Gods and dealing in those domains. heck, Dingus is well acquainted with madness his ownself.
"Keelhaul" Kaul |
Loincloak of Resistance would be more apt for Ding methinks :)
We probably could really benefit from some navel gazing (ol' nautical jape there wackawacka) and spending swag on items that will boost and buff us.
Not watched Black Sails - might give it a run past. American Gods has been epic thus far.

I wasn't upset or angry. You're always going to have a spate of bad luck with a random game... just an observation, that P6 changes the power curve detrimentally to casters... in particular Spontaneous casters, and that looking back I'd have built the character differently.
I love this game, and all the characters in it. That's the problem with the written word in that you sometimes can misinterpret the mood of the poster.
In Standard Pathfinder the caster curve slopes slowly up, then builds rapidly to it's peak
The non-caster tends to start higher on the graph, and build gradually with equilibrium coming somewhere around level 7-9, where the caster begins to surpass it.
In P6 the caster still starts lower than the non-caster, but doesn't reach the power surge when you pass the equilibrium curve. It's not that the caster is overpowered by the non-caster, it's that it starts at a lower place on the chart, and doesn't get the reward of the spike at higher levels.
Again, not complaining or wanting to change things, just an observation about P6. I almost feel that everyone playing this version, should start out with the same HD, Skills, Feats etc, since the curve flattens out.

BTW I've been bingeing Black Sails lately and it's been FAR better than I expected. Quite nicely working in some bits of actual pirate history.
I watched the first half-dozen or so episodes, then changed out the DVR, and never picked it back up. So it does get better???
Cap'n Voodoo |
Black Sails Seasons 2 and 3 are FAR better than Season 1...
Very much agree. Stick with it. Season 4 has a very gruesome Keelhauling by the way that Kaul might enjoy. Good aud days. I liked how it was kind of a sly reference to the legend that his beheaded body swam three times around the ship after it was tossed overboard.

No worries. I think I catch your point that arcane casters start weaker, but are no longer compensated by god-like powers at the higher level. Things have been greatly improved since the d4 HD and 1 spell days, but yeah, still weak starters only given a chance to catch up by L6.
What would you have changed? My offer of tying swarm of fangs into the ring stands. And I'm totally open to considering new ideas for feats or abilities from y'all. I don't feel anyone has attempted to break the game, usually the contrary ;)

Still floating about offshore - day 23 on the ship, and day 7 of a potential 28 or more of the well test underway.
Have also received a bit of news to cause sweaty palmed excitement... shipping notice for Dwarven Forge's Castle Kickstarter... all 4 boxes and 40 kg of Dwarvenitic goodness... that I can't play with yet :P

I have set up a google sheet. not sure how to share it though.
I don't think that these items were ever claimed...
burglar boots
beneficial bandolier
sea-goat hornpistol, powder and shot (20 rnds),
a masterwork rapier
and a Ring of protection +1
Sigh. We are truly rubbish at this swag claiming lark lol.
Cheers of the sheet Skip - will have a looksee. Burglar Boots are tempting

Not sure how we missed the passing of the 12K posts landmark. Must be getting blasé in our old age lol.
Belated congrats lads - 12,000 and rising :)

Heh. Naw mate - was aware of it as a nipper (pouring the porridge into the drawer, then when cooled off cutting it into pieces for later).
Never seen it, but my Gran and her era definitely did it - she was a farmer's daughter and it was a well known tradition with "rural folk" or teuchters as they're known.
Give' it a shot though!

Pretty much on the moody boy part Cap'n... I can be an arse at the best of times... and a month and a half offshore means my best of times ain't nearby.
If that was the end - then a truly heartfelt and humbling thanks go to you Cap'n and to the rest of the fleabitten and mongrel crew that we'd put together. It's been a hell of a ride.

So, some of us off to Seawraith by way of the Spire? At least Kaul will get Bess and Mara back.
What Mark said. It's been a long, strange trip, and very much a pleasure.

As the potential reality of this sets in have to say if this indeed is the end it'll leave a gaping wound in the old pbp carcass... :(
Any chance you fancy resurrecting the crew (of a sorts) in space a la Starfinder skipper? Kindof got used to the habitual posting with you loons and would hate for that not to be a fixture (of my sad monastic life lol).
