Very true... when in doubt... BAKE!
On a more serious note - did notice your muse was on the decline mate... much like our in-game wee shipmate... method roleplaying? Fingers crossed the malaise passes, and RL throws up some options on the future work front.
I'd arrange the opening of Scotia's borders to ye, but with exploration grinding to a halt here, we've naught much to offer barring kald weather :(
We've done a bit o' work of late with ACC and Woodside in Oz - iffen you need me to reach out to any of our contacts let me know chief.
SCran - I hear ya. Here's to a turnaround of fortune and focus worldwide mate.

Baking has indeed been an oft repeated activity in my house of late. I find it cathartic from a focus and execution perspective - gives me that sense of control... plus... you know... tasty and stuff. The science-y part of the brain likes playing around with changing things and seeing what happens (lentil flour for example is pretty decent baked into biscuits).
Kauly - appreciated mate, but as you know things are dead all over. There are a couple of weak sparks locally, but pretty much resigned to getting the arse at the end of March (which would put me out of Malaysia in mid-year... destination unknown).
Jimmer - glad the olds has seemed to settle in ok at the new place.

News on the work front... I have some! Will be mobilising offshore (to an oil rig) on Sunday for anywhere up to 3-4 weeks. The role should continue on and off through till the end of May - which gives a bit more stability to me here (plus means I can get paid again ;).
What it might mean though is that I suddenly drop off the contact map. Until I get offshore I have no clue what their internet filters are or aren't going to pick up... so while I'm hopeful Paizo is still accessible it isn't guaranteed. As long as I can get online I'll pop up a quick howdy - but again given it's a new job and I'll be landing right in the middle of ongoing operations it might take a few days before I get meaningful downtime.
So ultimately smiley face followed by pensive face which is hopefully followed by tired yet professionally satisfied visage.
Handwave is good for me Cap'n - hope you enjoy the camping and I'm sorry for flaking out during a Dibbs centric episode :(

The Malaise continues here as well. Last Friday I got furlowed while the other employees were let go. I will still have a job if things pick up in the next month, but in the meanwhile I have started looking for another job. And I am using my furlow to work as much as I can on my book, as that is what I really want to do. But having money for food is nice as well.

Good to hear Mark... 3-4 weeks is a long old trip matey! But leastways you'll be earning some coin (offshore bonus?) whilst away.
What's the role offshore (putting on professional hat) - am presuming you'll be a mite more sophisticated that us wellhead clankies :)
Groomy - at least they're trying to keep you... must be doing something right lol. Seriously fingers crossed for you and the book. Looking forward to our signed copies ;0

Fun with spellcheck
Today while editing I came across a passage I wrote a while back that involved 'a shaft of light'.
My spellchecker flagged it because what I wrote was 'a shart of light'. Now my story does involve the Tuatha Dé Danann and maybe one of them could shart a ray of golden light. But for now, I am just grateful that the word is not common enough to be in my writing program dictionary.

Out of curiosity I'm wondering if we have any lurkers who follow the game?
(casts Detect Lurker)
Anyone out there??
Aye, ye've at least one--I've been following this game for years. Your crew's antics are at least partially to blame for me starting my own piratey game on the Paizo forums.
Keep havin' fun! Take all ye can! Give nuthin' back!

NSFW due to language - but these are well worth a watch and chuckle.
Kaul - offshore as a Completions / Well Intervention Supervisor, so I'm watching over the shoulders o' the likes of you :P

"Keelhaul" Kaul |

CWIS - Good work matey. Aye keep a jaundiced eye on them clankies - night shift especially (love me some night shift :)
@GM Piratey Steve: Pop in by occasionally mate - I've something mulling for any long time lurkers should we hit 15K ;)

No worries. Just a lark that wasn't particularly executed well on my account anyway.
As some may know, the module had the old Abadarian monastery already claimed and warded by a divine guardian of Gozreh. I just thought it might be interesting to put the crew into that transition.

"Keelhaul" Kaul |

No time wasted getting you off!
Keep a beady on those WH boys... always up to no good with cheater bars and sledges!
Safe trip mate - looking forward to your groove being got back :)

"Keelhaul" Kaul |

Good luck skipper :)
Things on a go-slow Dibbs?
Btw - home inter webs is (again) playing up... Grrrr. Busy at work too, so if I hold things up, chivvy Kauly along plz.

Just a couple of days of periods of sustained lulls in activity waiting for instructions followed by frenetic periods of activity combined with a few things going sideways and
Offshore drag - I'm past the first week where I'm relatively happy and chipper and into the 2nd week of just doing the job. Sleep debt starts to run out and it just incrementally takes a little bit more to get up in the morning, etc.
Oh... and Good Luck Cap'n!!

Cap'n Voodoo |

Thanks, all! if I understood correctly, there are only 3 candidates and I'm the only local. So despite mediocre performance on my part (going back to a field I've been out of for a dozen years= rusty), i'm hoping proximity pushes me over!! should know in a week : )
WHat's your sched. Dibbs? 2 and 2?

Dibbets |

What is this rotation of which you speak?
I'm out here till we're done (maybe in 1-2 weeks from now), then a 5 day break or so... then probably offshore until they legally have to send me in (4 weeks ish).
I'm more coming out to finish a workscope that's halfway through than coming in as a gear in a larger machine. It's me and the guy who's on nights.... and no-one else as supervisors (until they potentially hire some more).
But work is work!

James "Madman Jim" Patterson |

BTW, Dibbets, any guess as to when you'll have time to do anything with the Piratey Jaunt? Sounds as though you're booked solid for at least the next few weeks (which surely beats the alternative).

Dibbets |

Yeah - have been meaning to pop over there for a post... but haven't even been able to remember that. It's 23:00 and I've been up since 04:45 and only 'just' remembered that I've got one more fecking report to send before I get to sleep.
It'll be when I'm back on land unfortunately, as it's the only way I'd be able to swing any continuity into it... which does mean at least 1-2-4-6 ish weeks...

"Keelhaul" Kaul |

Ah man - gotta love offshore shifts.
Here's to you being back on the beach sooner rather than later chief.

James "Madman Jim" Patterson |

Dibbets, once you could cast spells again did you do anything to patch up Kaul's and Dingus' heads from the WIS damage? Also, both of them should recover a point overnight.

I don't think so. They did gain a Wis point back, but still have Insanity points which are still nerfing Kaul's will save.

"Keelhaul" Kaul |

Looks mighty sweet - had two tilts at the AP here on the boards, and both stalled midway through book 1. Ever hopeful it'll be 3rd time lucky sometime!

"Keelhaul" Kaul |

The Ol'Kauly kiss o' death... :S
Tis total gash. Lucky for us our techs are expensive so Company men tend to ensure we're off sharpish.

Dibbets |

Yeah - was a bit p to the o'd last night when I found out... just before I found out that town's likely going to try and dodge out of paying any offshore bonus for me. (as in paying me exactly the same I would've gotten for working 5 days a week in the office)
Wasn't a happy and level camper - but with the sh1te way the oilfield and dayrates are at the moment there's somewhere between sweet and feck all I can do about it.

Cap'n Voodoo |

There's quite a bit of THIS in the states. In fact if you look up 'petroleum workers suing for back pay', it's quite the list...

Dibbets |

Yeah - alot of garnishing going on over here as well. The rig contractor has started not paying for travel days - and even not paying for the last 'half' day that the guys work.
My situation is a little different in that I'm a staff employee with liberal notes in my contract about 'acceptable' overtime and whatnot. As in working weekends / public holidays is expected and doesn't qualify as overtime, yadda yadda. It's all good and works reasonably well when I'm office bound... but offshore is a slightly different kettle of fish.
I used to have a specific offshore bonus rate specified, but I must've missed it when reviewing my contract before... so I'm likely bang up sh1te creek.
Edit: I can understand even if I'm shirty about it... the dayrate they are getting for me working offshore is 44% of what I was getting for working in the office at my prior posting... so yeah...

"Keelhaul" Kaul |

Mate that feckin sucks. I'm angry for you just reading it!
Whilst the omission of offshore rate is likely a sly move by them, bottom line is if you've changed job role, then the conditions should change as well. Cannae just put a new feckin front sheet on a man and run with it... that bull$hite has got dander up good an' proper!
However this red mist is tempered with the resigned knowledge that O&G will always find a way of feckin' you over...
