Jundu |
Jundu sighs. "I never should have said I have a rope." He calls down, "Can you climb back up or do you need our help?"
GM DevilDoc |
Black Sun beats off the nausea fighting for control of her stomach as the bats swarm over her.
Cyclic readies her wand of healing, while Jundu regrets suggesting the rope in the first place and begins calling for a sitrep from below.

Ajax takes hold of the rope and begins to climb down to help Black Sun while Argor holds back away from the raging swarm.

The swarm keeps moving for the exit, encompassing Argor and Ajax as it does! Both receive AOO's if you have an applicable weapon.

Black Sun |
"The bleeding can be stopped by a DC 10 Heal check...."
GM DevilDoc |
Doh! Ok.. your wording threw me off and I was confused thinking you were trying to use "Void Healing" or something but couldn't find the details for it. My bad!"
Black Sun manages to get her bleeding under control.

GM DevilDoc |
The team searches the remainder of this floor, but is unable to locate anything of interest or any way to connect it to the rest of the tower. Finally, they all climb back up the rope and move back to the spiral staircase that has brought them so much trouble. As you move up the stairs you can see light filtering down from above.
Cyclic |
No special preparations from Cyclic before they enter the next room other than pulling out another scroll of bless.
GM DevilDoc |
The team moves ahead into the light coming from above.
The four wings of the tower are completely open on this level, forming one great, cross-shaped chamber with arched ceilings. The decayed remnants of a carpet run from the doorways at the end of each wing, meeting in the center, where a spiral staircase drops out of sight below. A large, throne-like chair stands in the middle of the eastern wing next to a big chest. Standing in a large window French Door type thing is the biggest and ugliest troglodyte you have yet to meet. Next to the throne sits an albino alligator that hisses at you as you enter the room. Turning, the troglodyte cries out in his language, and the alligator shuffles forward.
Anyone who moves forward from where you are, please make a DC 13 Fort save vs the stench

They are both over 2 HD
Suddenly, a swarm of spiders erupts from the floor, ceiling, and every imaginable place! They scuttle over Aerian and Black Sun, biting and crawling with abandon.
I don't remember if this is the table with a player that has a problem with spiders, but I am using a red lined box just in case, and out of respect!!
Swarm Dmg: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Please also make a DC 11 Fort save vs poison or take Str Dmg: 1d2 ⇒ 1 (lasts 2 rounds, Cure=1 save)
Swarms possess the distraction universal monster rule. Spellcasting or concentrating on spells within the area of a swarm requires a caster level check (DC 20 + spell level). Using skills that involve patience and concentration requires a DC 20 Will save.
Having released the swarm, the troglodyte peers around the throne and quickly mutters a few more words of magic. Suddenly, a ball of flame appears in his hand.
Balenor continues to sing. While doing so, he draws his bow and arrow, firing a shot at the croc. The arrow hums through the air, striking the beast a solid blow.

Though she barely notices their venomous bites, Black Sun reels from the shock of being suddenly covered in spiders, managing to do nothing more than stagger away as she tries to shake free of them.
For what it's worth: I believe the intent of the Distraction ability is not that it literally nauseates victims (at least, not in most cases), but merely that that is the net effect on the character's performance as they run around screaming "GAAAAAUGHHgetemoffmegetemoffme...".
GM DevilDoc |
Aerian: I am glad I remembered for you!! I also moved your token one diagonal square north and east to reflect your post, but I did not know how far you wanted to move. You may correct this as you wish.
LMAO! Yea, I quite agree, Black Sun! That's what has been running through my head. I just don't think they have come up with a better way to translate "GAAAAAUGHHgetemoffmegetemoffme..." into rulespeak!
Aerian is completely consumed as the creatures cover her and quickly moves out of the area as their poison saps the strength from her limbs.
Black Sun fares better, easily fighting off the poison, but is equally distracted with slapping and squishing as she too vacates the area.
