The man gratefully thanks Black Sun for his armor back, and dons it over his rags of remaining clothes. He takes a moment to make sure all of his odds and ends are in place before following Argor and the rest of the team over to the next door. Argor assures that the rest of the team is ready before opening the door. Cracks in the walls and ceiling of this chamber have allowed rainwater to collect here, flooding the room and giving rise to a profusion of mold and fungus along the walls and ceiling. The water in this room is only about ankle deep, but the slime makes the footing slick and unsure.

As Argor opens the door, an extremely large frog lies in wait by the door. When the door flies open, The frog immediately lashes out with his tongue, trying to pull Argor into the room!

Black Sun tries to hit the beast with a blast of gravity, but it narrowly misses. Aerian on the other hand, draws first blood as his arrow glances off of the creatures thick hide leaving a small scratch.

The team moves through the room without looking beyond the dead frog and into the next room. Here, a large part of the floor has collapsed downwards, revealing the floors below and an amazing vista out before them. From this height, you think you can pick out Absalom on the distant horizon.

where can we go from here? anything to search? doors? doesn't look like it on the map, but just in case I'm looking at the wrong part, I thought I'd ask... if we have to go back, Aerian would like to search the frog room before returning to the stairs and going up again, if there's more up that is.

If you so desire, it is possible to climb down if you were to find a way to secure the rope or make the appropriate strength checks to hold it while someone climbed down to the lower level. From where you are, it is possible to see the remains of the floor below you open to the sky. Aerian, go ahead and give me a perception roll and we can handle that retroactively.

Cyclic moves to the edge of the ruin and looks below her, seeing the crumbling remains of the levels below from her vantage. Looking up, it seems that the next level is the only one that survived intact.

Updated the map for everyone. Argor, you are now on the previous slide, and I have placed your token on the other side of that wall.

The team ties some knots in the rope, making it easier for Argor to climb down. He reaches the remains of the lower level to discover that the northern room is still mostly intact, but very little remains of the floor in this section. He swings himself over, and is able to gain his feet. Securing the rope so that it doesn't drift back out of reach he looks around at this previously hidden section. A living, moving fabric seems to cover the ceiling of this half-collapsed chamber, which stretches northwest into darkness. The pungent smell of ammonia rises from the droppings that litter the floor.

I am not sure what the DC of this would be. It is going to be a 15ft drop (DC 15 to avoid first 1d6 fall dmg, then 1d6 NL and prone), as well as a 10 ft lateral movement (DC 10). I would be willing to split the difference of the lateral move and go with a total DC of 20 for this if you really don't want to take the DC 5 rope climb.. Any other suggestions/comments?

I threw yall a bone with that. No one mentioned knotting the rope, but as lvl 1's it was unlikely anyone would have made it.. especially considering Argor's rolls of an 11 and a 1. Rather than have him fall all that way, I used GM discretion and said that the rope was knotted. Its a difference of a DC 5 and DC 15 just by adding a few words!

As they step in around the collapse, the ammonia smell becomes much more concentrated.. and the writhing walls and ceiling begin moving much more quickly. Suddenly, bats begin launching themselves through the air and circling, quickly coalescing into an almost solid group!

Aerian, seeing the swarm developing, pulls out an alchemist fire and prepares to throw it at the bats.

Aerian, you are on the level above the room where the swarm is, and unable to see it, much less toss anything into the swarm. If you would like to join them, you will have to climb down the rope and then move into position.

Argor decides on the better half of valor and makes his way back to the rope with exceptional haste.
You cannot pass through walls, and no one has found the door that is marked with the "S". You are still on the ledge, and not within the main tower.

The swarm coalesces into a solid mass of bats that begins to bear down on the now along Black Sun. As it does, she releases a blast of gravity energy into the maelstrom. Unfortunately, her blast is just off to the side and misses the main group of the bats.

Ajax, you are also on the level above the swarm and are unable to see the ruckus from your vantage point.

Cyclic, alerted to the fight from the ruckus and cries from below, pulls out a scroll of Bless and begins to cast it while Ajax pulls out a flask and waits to see if the swarm comes up to say hi.

Meanwhile the swarm engulfs Black Sun, tiny bats latching onto any exposed skin and beginning to bite and claw any way they can!

Wounding:
Any living creature damaged by a bat swarm continues to bleed, losing 1 hit point per round thereafter. Multiple wounds do not result in cumulative bleeding loss. The bleeding can be stopped by a DC 10 Heal check or the application of a cure spell or some other healing magic.

Distraction:
Swarms possess the distraction universal monster rule. Spellcasting or concentrating on spells within the area of a swarm requires a caster level check (DC 20 + spell level). Using skills that involve patience and concentration requires a DC 20 Will save.

I thought that it looked odd and was contrary to the DC listed under the Bat Swarm in the PRD, But HERE is the info listed under swarm subtypes in the PRD/Bestiary. I don't know if they changed things with the errata they released last week or what.

It could be possible that it does both though you can just move to avoid that first part.

Ok then. Thank you very much, Argor and Black Swarm. Argor, I think that you may have something there with your comment, I just don't know why both halves of the equation wouldn't be in the same place! With this in mind, Black Sun, may I please have a DC 11 Fort save?

Black Sun steps back away from the swarm of bats, and blasts at it again! This time she not only hits it, but it almost looses cohesion under the strength of her blow. Unfortunately, it just barely pulls itself back together.
