Baldwin the Merciful's Razor Coast: Black Spot (Inactive)

Game Master baldwin the merciful

"The Black Spot" An adventure of extradimensional depravity for four to six 5th level PCs Explore the wreck of The Flying Fortune, a ship impaled on the exposed tip of an underwater mountain with a waterfall of gold coins spilling from her shattered hull. Unravel the mystery of her vanished crew—the bloodstains, the shredded decking. Discover a dank and gaping hole in the stone peak that pierces the Fortune. Is it a natural opening? Or a tunnel crafted by arcane engines? It leads down, that much is clear. Down inside a hollow, underwater mountain—all the way to the ocean floor.

Young Characters from Ultimate Campaign

This one seems to be tailored for PCs, although it seems a steep price to pay, and isn't what the developers have done with the stats for the new iconic I mentioned earlier. They just slapped on the small template for him, and he remains at a 20pnt buy for stats (which is what the other iconics appear to be at, too).

That's why I was asking the GM specifically what his ruling would be on the matter.

I like the idea for a different game where the character could develop and others accept him. Here the PCs are being hired for a purpose - protection. The Captain is nervous about his trade partners and the dangerous seas. Without revealing too much of the storyline, I don't think it would be possible to work the young PC into the second phase of the story. There is not going to be enough time game wise (a few days at most) to explain and prove yourself for the task at hand.

As far as how I would handle the stats, I would use the Ultimate Campaign build rules. Youth has it's distinct disadvantages.

Draconic (Silver) Sorcerer 1/Admixture Wizard 4.

Davkas grew up an average child. Not weak and quick with his slight frame he had a knack for the delicate work of weaving ropes. Come from common stock the son of an unknown sailor and a weaver woman, he grew up around the sea and played and ran with the other kids around the docks. He thought to grow to sail one day. From his low station the boy's only realistic option for adventure would be to hire on as a powdermonkey and work his way up to sailor. It was a hard life, but one in which a common person could at least expect to see more of the world than the average man. As soon as he was old enough he was able to finally find work as a powdermonkey and eventually learn to sail. But he lacked to fortitude for the very heavy work and possessing good agility and a keen wit managed to secure lighter duties often. It was during the many days in the crows nest, looking over the horizon that he contemplated inward and heard the call of the wind and waves. Minor tricks at first but eventually growing into true magic. He had the fortune to be on a ship which had a travelling wizard aboard who'd intervened when the crew began to rally against the young man. Sailors were a superstitious lot after all and it was only the magical assurances of the wizard to the ships captain that one of his crew was actually a budding sorcerer.

Life got even easier for him then. The captain had seen many mighty magics in his day and thrilled at the idea of a loyal crew member who might one day wield arcane forces under his sail. Quickly realizing his sorcerous abilities were limited, he turned to the actual study of Arcane Magic and luckily the wizard whom saved him set him on the path to learning. This all suited Davkas quite nicely. The title of Ships Wizard suited him and now with a better understanding of his powers and some leave up his sleeve while his captain's ship is under repair he has taken a freelance job. It was time to line his own pocket for a change...

Davkas is turning out to be a Sorc 1/Admixture Wizard 4

Silver Crusade

Yeah, Arcane caster!

Shaping up nicely.

Prohibited Schools are Divination and Necromancy.

Will mostly focus on Blasts of Cold and Conjuration.
Davkas ultimately has a char flaw of wanting to be seen as very important, but still a nice guy. Expect flashy magic when subtlety is required....

Bed time now. Will finish him tomorrow.

Okay, Mimesyne here. I think I've got my crunch ironed out for this character!

Sadie's a free spirit to be sure and feels most at home on the water. She's a half-skip and a jump away from going pirate, but in the meantime, she's content to go on less illegal (yet still profitable) adventures. With a bow she's down right deadly, but she keeps a few other tricks up her sleeves if anyone get's too close. She's friendly enough, but can be quite blunt with her words and never sugar coats anything (which is one of her less endearing qualities).

In combat, she's a ranged martial damage dealer, and out of combat she's a scout and survivalist.

Ability Score Math:

Str 14 = 3 points(13) + L4 ability score increase(+1)
Dex 20 = 10 points(16) + human ability score(+2) + belt of incredible dexterity(+2)
Con 12 = 2 points(12)
Int 10 = 0 points(10)
Wis 14 = 5 points(14)
Cha 10 = 0 points(10)

Right, almost forgot:

Ability Score Math:

Str 10
Dex 22 = 13 points(17) + racial score bonus (+2) + level 4 ability score increase (+1) + belt of incredible dexterity (+2)
Con 14 = 5 points (14)
Int 10
Wis 10
Cha 12 = 2 points (12)

As for the fluff, Otto's an opportunist and what he would like to be considered a gentleman thief. While he is not bad at talking his way both in and out of things, it's his nimble fingers and natural sneakiness that really make him shine. He would never steal from those who have very little, partly because that would be a terrible thing to do and partly because they have nothing he would want. At the end of the day, he would like to think that he is a good person, but the need to feed his greed is strong. At the very least, he can throw his lot in with a few adventurers to better put his skills to good use while making a bit of coin at the same time, right?

Idk, having the kid sneak on ship, then be forced into a role after boasting when he/she gets caught could be fun. After a couple levels you could remove the young template to represent growth. (Not just physical growth). It could make an interesting character. Better yet if my character was selected I'd back the lad in character.

The lack of even a 3/4 Divine Caster concerns me.....

I could rework my guy. It'd be simple to just have him play music with skills. If divine is needed.

The recruitment thread doesn't close for another couple days perhaps a few more applicants will emerge.

I am afraid I will have to withdraw from this game. Sorry about that best of luck to you folk.

Hey baldwin. After some time mulling it over (and since my pain meds are kicking in nicely) I've decided to throw my hat into the ring on this one.

I'm going to alter an old character I made for a Skull and Shackles game that died out early. She's a cleric of Besmara and will function as both primary divine caster and face, not wading into melee if she can help it.

20 point buy

9 str (-1)
12 dex (+2)
12 con (+2)
10 int (+0)
16 wis (+10)
15 cha (+7)

Putting human bonus into wis. Putting level up bonus at 4 into cha.

Getting to work now.

HP: 3d8 ⇒ (5, 8, 7) = 20

I have returned with my character complete. Revhi, human cleric of Besmara. She's a tanky cleric focused on channeling and spellcasting, and she's a pretty good face as well.

I only have one more alteration I might make: Are drawbacks allowed? I'm assuming no since you didn't mention them, but I was thinking the avarice drawback would be fun to play, especially on a pirate.

I wasn't planning on drawbacks.

Is anyone else lurking and working on a character submission? If so, give a shout out. This is an opportunity to get into a game that will be consistent and actually move beyond the first combat scene.

Vincent Octavius Madrigal:

I see you are new to the PbP boards congrats for finding your way here. I just want to double check that, if chosen, you will be able to keep up and handle the posting requirements. Communication is key in PbP games, a little warning that you're unavailable lets us avoid the "Where's Waldo" situation.

Fair enough!

I am one of the players in baldwin's Rappun Athuk game, and I have yet to find a GM more reliable than him who keeps the game moving at such a good pace. Not to mention he's great with story as well as combat; one of the more memorable things was Meath'd, a lovable ogre who we accidentally recruited for the long term.

HP for Davkas. favored class is wizard and bonus goes to HP. +1 Con

6 + 1 = 7
6 + 1 + 1 = 8
1d6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 1 = 4
1d6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 1 = 5
1d6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 1 = 4

So 28 HP.

And I think I am ready.

It has been years since I played a full caster....

@Baldwin

Yes. I'm a mobile junkie who checks on the forums constantly throughout the day.

I am dipping my toes into the PbP DMing pool, so I hope to steal pick up some good tips from this game.

Unless someone pops in and mentions they are building a character, I'm going to change the time this game's recruitment closes. I'm moving the close time up by 12 hours.

I'm going to close the recruitment on Thursday Morning, August 13th, at 8:00am eastern time zone.

Woohoo! I'll be in gameplay momentarily.

That's baldwin for you haha

So this group has started off well but we really could use an unchained rogue to join the party.

Rules build Link

I'll keep this open for a couple days, but note I'm looking for an unchained rogue to join the group.

Thanks.

Didn't have time to creat a character when you first made the call.

Should be able to have one ready by tomorrow.

I've heard about Razor Coast, mostly from HMM. I've never played in the setting nor read any of the material for the setting.

I have played in other sea campaigns, but those didn't use Pathfinder rules. One of them did use 3.0 rules.

This would be my second PbP. I recently started playing in my first, but that has a much slower pace for updating. Still adjusting to PbP.

Still working on the details, but plans are to go 5 levels Unchained Rogue and evaluating Carnivalist (Animal Archives, pg. 6) and Underground Chemist (ACG, pg. 109) archetypes. If you have any hesitation on either of these, just let me know and I'll drop them.

Hit Points: 3d8 ⇒ (6, 5, 8) = 19

Other than the obvious (acrobatics, climb, profession: sailor) are there any skills that would be used for the various positions on the ship? Topsman, Helm, Caulker, Cooper, etc.

Unless I decide to do a skill grab based on the answer to the above question, I'm currently thinking of taking the River Rat (APG, pg 332) trait. Would it be alright to reskin this as a Dock Rat? Same mechanical advantages, just grew up near the docks of a port rather than along a river.

This is a stand alone game that is based in the Razor Coast but covers only one level of character development. At this point I'm not intending extend this into a long campaign.

I have filled the unchained rogue position. Thanks for the interest,
