Game Master baldwin the merciful

This is Council of Thieves AP. Westcrown, City of Twilight, once was the center of Aroden's faith, but now it symbolizes despair. By day, the city remains a vibrant center of trade; but, by night only those with a death wish venture out.

From what you can tell, a chuul, like what you've faced would have to squeeze.

Gerard:
LOL!!!

Gerard:
You seem to be able to tread against the current but not make any headway. You do notice that it's a short sword with a thin, dull gray blade that is sticking out of the bottom of the ground.

Male Human Rogue 13 | 97/97 | AC 26/19/19 | F 8/R 16/W 7 | Init +7 | Perc +18/+22

Gerard considers if he's heard of any special weapon like this one. A small blade, skill and finesse. A dull blade so as not to reflect the light... stealth.

It's not a dagger, but it will do. A nice addition to his choice of tools.

Kn Local, tools of the trade?: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (5) + 15 = 20
Swim, against the current: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18

With a renewed surge of strength bolstered by his greed the rogue makes his way to the hilt. A slight smile of recognition traces his lips. His hand grasp the hilt.

Strength check and then a swim check.

I know! LOL

The rogue makes some feeble attempts to pull the embedded sword out as he hangs on the dear life.

He has been under water for over a half a minute (6 rounds), Phem hears a bit of panic in her head.

Make more str and swim checks.

"Gerard, your intelligence and wisdom are UNPROPORTIONAL!" she calls out in fear, the edge replacing that of anger.

Euphemia begins chanting the invocation for summoning a water elemental.

Wake up to drama!

Once the two Chuuls are dead, Andrea channels to heal everyone.

Channel heal: 8d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 1, 3, 1, 3, 2, 3) = 20 Bleh

She then taps Orsin with the wand of CSW
CSW: 3d8 + 12 ⇒ (1, 6, 6) + 12 = 25

20 to everyone, 45 to Orsin

We simply must get you some better armor, Orsin. I'll pitch in if it means that giant lobsters keep their claws away from your ribs.

She then sips a potion of CLW CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Andrea slices off a bit of the big Chuul while Gerard is treasure hunting again. Revenge is a dish best served in a light garlic sauce. She does look on in exasperation as Gerard keeps trying to get the sword and must get bailed out by Euphemia.

He looks at his hand to confirm his RING OF WATER BREATHING is still firmly on his hand and wades in after the rogue.

This area of the water is bit murky and to your surprise when you stepped into the water and began to walk, you suddenly sink, and sink, and sink much further than you imagined. As you stepped into some sort or crevice.

DM Baldwin:
Both those attacks miss, even flatfooted. I assume by crevice, you mean withdrawal is not an option.

The paladin feels the impact as clumsy attempts to harm him through his enchanted armor fail.

Retreat at this point was not an option, the assault on him would continue until the chuul or he was dead.
He pulls his shield in close to better hold his defenses and SMITES EVIL.

Daniel, post 1:
Withdrawal is difficult since it's a tight spot and you really need to swim up to get away. You stepped off o ledge that you did not see in the darkwater and sank down to a depth where you are next to the chuul in a tight area.

Both attacks hit this chuul.

Daniel, Post 2:

Male Human Rogue 13 | 97/97 | AC 26/19/19 | F 8/R 16/W 7 | Init +7 | Perc +18/+22

Gerard looks up, wet and disheveled. Just bring the boat over. It's about 10-15 feet for heaven's sake.

Removing a rope from his pack, the rogue ties one end to his waist, letting the looped silken length hang at his belt.

Taking a breath he dives back in.

Swim: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Swim: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25

Gerard ties the roped around the hilt/pommel securely, so that he may attempt to pull the sword loose while standing on the small island. He then swims back.

50' rope, sword was 10 feet down, should be enough length.

Swim: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Swim: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Swim: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Swim: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Swim: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Swim: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

After a rough time with the rope and current (i think) he manages to get to the island and "dry" ground.

Strength: 1d20 ⇒ 15
Strength: 1d20 ⇒ 2
Strength: 1d20 ⇒ 5

He keeps trying until Orsin or Frank get there.

Strength: 1d20 ⇒ 16
Strength: 1d20 ⇒ 1
Strength: 1d20 ⇒ 2

Does the rope afford any leverage?

Evil GM

As Gerard is figuring out how to get the treasure there is an air bubble or two that floats to the surface between the boat and rock cropping. Paying that no mind, Gerard figures out his course of action. Using rope he dives back under the surface and after some struggle he fastens the rope to the sword hilt, then he resurfaces.

the rope will give you a +2 on the strength check for leverage.

The rogue eventually yanks the sword out and pulls it to his eager hands.

Male Human Rogue 13 | 97/97 | AC 26/19/19 | F 8/R 16/W 7 | Init +7 | Perc +18/+22

Why do I feel like Daffy Duck diving through the treasure in that "Open Sesame" Bugs Bunny episode? "Mine, mine... all mine."

Admiring the blade, his mind turns to the here and now... Hey, where's Daniel? And... what's that?!

The rogue points to the bubbling with his new grey sword.

Perception: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (5) + 15 = 20

Not sure timing, but keeping the action flowing.

Fire Resist 10 Human Cleric 6,HP 40/40,Init+5F6R4W9,Per10AC18/11/17

Andrea starts looking concerned as Gerard keeps going with the sword and there is no sign of Daniel.

Gerard! Daniel went into the water to help. She points at the air bubbling. I am lousy at swimming, go see if he is okay. Andrea also looks at Orsin for help.

Male Human Rogue 13 | 97/97 | AC 26/19/19 | F 8/R 16/W 7 | Init +7 | Perc +18/+22

What? Help who? Gerard places the shortsword on the rocks, wedged so it doesn't slide into the water...

Taking a deep breath, he dives into uncharted territory...

Perception: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (19) + 15 = 34

Speaking from the safety of the outcropping. You worry far too much, love. The pool I was dipping in was only about 10 feet deep and far too small for that behemoth to enter. I was quite safe.

What is everyone going to do now that you've regrouped and are relatively safe?

Fire Resist 10 Human Cleric 6,HP 40/40,Init+5F6R4W9,Per10AC18/11/17

We can check out the grating or further into the cavern. I suggest Euphemia send the elemental out into the cavern and attack any creature it meets and make lots of noise.

F Human Witch 13 Init+4 Hp: 104/91--- AC:20 t:15 ff:16---F8//R9//W13--Perception +16
