Slipped on some blood it seems. IMO, the whole exploding thing is DUMB. Like the power lists of demons and devils that are there just so they can fill the 'Ranged/close combat/debuff' roles rather than have something more fitting.

I didn't create the creature or the game path, so don't shoot the DM. I've done this mansion pretty darn close as written. These creatures are pretty weak when compared to the PCs and their buffs and swift actions. They had descent numbers with 5 creatures which poised a challenge.

Not blaming you, the 'Highly skilled twin-sword wielding thief/assassins' makes sense when going against the Council of Thieves but the designer's choice of putting in the Explosion death is bizarre, like putting lasers on sharks.

Andrea channels to heal everyone.Heal: 7d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 3, 5, 3, 3, 2) = 24
2/6 channels left.

At this level its hard to cause hesitation or concern with PCs, so it makes some sense.

The paladin sees the DC's eyes close for the last time after Gerard's strike, but he screams with fury and attempts to drive his sword through it's gut anyway as it explodes. The fire and pain does not hurt compared to the roaring ache in his heart.

His friend, a savior, immortal..was dead.
There is a clatter as Andrea ' s healing removes some of the burns across Daniel's face, the sound of his sword falling to the floor. Azreal had been the first Archos to answer his call, had saved his life multiple times...Azreal

He pulls the lifeless body to his Breastplate and sobs like one who had lost a true brother, for that was exactly what had happened.

Reflex Save: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 9 + 2 = 24

Orsin takes 6 damage from the final explosion, but Andrea's channel restores the bard to full health moments later. He moves to the priestess and embraces her in a side hug, jostling her tiny frame slightly. Whispering, he says to her, "I can't imagine how many times your goddess has saved my @$$." He gives the priestess a peck on the forehead before shooting Euphemia a sly wink in thanks for her healing hex.

He turns back towards the others smiling, but sees the paladin's sadness and realizes what transpired in the thick of the melee. Whispering to himself, but audible to Andrea, he laments, "Not another..."

There are and assortment of melted gold, silver and copper coins melded into the wood. Scattered around it are a number of mismatched chairs. A brickedover doorway stands in the north wall. The stuffy chamber smells
strongly of stale sweat and the reek of filthy bodies.

You've seen Daniel call him forth in the past. I think he died on the material plane once before and had to go back. I've let Azreal be played more like an eidolon, then what lesser planar ally permits. Technically, the ally only performs one task.

Not knowing the truth of the matter ,Andrea does grip Orsin's forearm when he looks at Daniel, not caring about the possibility of getting burned again.

This entire mission is costing us far too much. Do we keep trying to clear out this entire mansion and risk losing more, or just go straight for the head?

I believe you are right and that is a big distinction between summoned and called creatures. However, your ability gives you the chance to use it once per week, and it seriously isn't that much of game changer to me, so I'm fine Azreal going back to his plane until he can be called again.

Euphemia looked on with a bit of a grimace. She wanted to help; seeing a soul so long forged reduced to nothing was disturbing, to say the least. However, after a brief caress of Gerard's cheek and a quick touch to Daniel's back, she hurries back out into the corridor to pick up the wayward Frank.
