Solicitous:

Spoiler:
"You're a spellcaster?" She grabs Sol's hand. "If they realise you are casting down here they'll fetch you back up for torture or worse. There's nothing to see down here - trust me, I work here, it's our dungeon. The only way out is through that trapdoor and it's twenty feet up.

"But what friends are these? And what magic do you have?"

Unsolicitous:

Spoiler:
The army prepares for its charge. Weapons are checked, visors are lowered and lances couched. The sight of their charge would surely be glorious, but the adventurers have other plans.

"Try to breach the sally port before the charge," says Irabeth, "They may not be so alert. We can't give you much time, so be quick. And may the Inheritor bless you."

Sulliver leads them off on their horses, away from the road and looping around the site of the fort. The drizzly mist hides their approach. They reach what appears to be a natural pile of boulders. Sulliver pauses.

"It's been a while," he whispers, "Not sure exactly..." He scratches around the short tussocks of grass. "Ah, here it is!" A handle projects from the earth. Sulliver yanks it and a round metal hatch, cunningly painted and countoured so as to appear like rock, swings open. A round hole carved into the bedrock, metal rungs on one side, leads down.

Sulliver hesitates, looking apologetic. "Er, I think there are some traps down there."

Sol, center of the solar system:

"I don't have much, a few minor magics. I just learned how to cast invisibility. That's my best spell.

"My friends are an odd grab-bag. Three're good warriors. One's a mage of some power. I stayed alive in Kenabres by sticking with them. I don't think they'll leave me here if they know I've been captured."

If memory serves, Sol was our best trap spotter. If someone else is better suited to search (I have a +11 for Perception) and live with the consequences of failure, I will step aside.

I sold my Sol to the company store:
Mulluq is eager to race off with the armies, but instead he understands that his allies from the beginning may need him more. "Master Eastwind, I would of course ask to take the lead, but I have no eyes for triggers or the sort. If you feel a spot may be dangerous, allow me to tread the path first instead. I can weather the brunt of many attacks."

Barring a better offer, Jod will focus to activate his adaptation, which will give him darkvision for ten minutes. He will move slowly into the tunnel, mindful that they need to keep moving as ordered by their leader.

So we are entering the tunnels, something like:

Jod
Mulluq
Kira
Hannik

With Jod 10 ft in front of Mulluq.

So SOLid Crew:

Spoiler:
"Do you have nothing to help us get out of here? We have to do something soon. There were more of us but every so often they come and take some of us for sacrifice."

One of the others comes over. "Captain, I overheard them up there," he says in an urgent whisper, "There's an army attacking to fort!"

No SOLid Crew:

Spoiler:
Jod climbs cautiously down the ladder. Above ground, the sound of the battle begins with a rumble of hooves in the mist down by the road, and then shouts and screams as the two armies meet.

At the bottom there is a small chamber with a stone door. The door has no apparent handle or other way of opening it, but on it carved letters writte in Common: 'Bless us in our battles, hold us steadfast in our terrors'.

Sol smiles in the darkness. "Jod must have gotten back to them. "

"Captain, I have a few tricks. I could take the appearance of one of them. I might be able to tell a convincing lie or two. I might be able to scare one or convulse one with laughter. That's all. Unless we can lure them down here one by one, I won't be of any more use than the next man."

"So what can we do to help ourselves?"

Sol:

Spoiler:
"They aren't all that organised - with any luck our guards will have run off to join the fight. If we can get out, perhaps we have a chance. Down here we can't do anything. Can you climb?"

O SOLe Mio:

Spoiler:
Supported by a couple of the soldiers, Sol is hoisted up and able to clamber up to the trapdoor. It appears to be bolted, but there's a gap between the stone and the wood of the trapdoor into which some sort of thin object could be inserted and maybe push the bolt to one side.

NO SOLe Mio:

Spoiler:
Kira's check is still enough for an assist.

Jod rolled a load of Perception checks above and I will use them first - especially as they are pretty good.

Jod's senses do him - and the group - proud. He notices the flagstone that would act as a trigger for some sort of trap, and then the tripwire beneath the concealed chute in the ceiling further along. Finally they reach the end of tunnel to find it blocked by a steel door. The door has a handle on it but Jod notices that it seems to have little wear, while a small masonry flag in the wall next to it seems slightly discoloured.

I gots to save my SOL!:
Jod indicates each of the traps in turn, helping the others avoid them, until they reach the door. He hesitates, waving them forward, he whispers, "I don't think that door handle has been used much - it might be a trap itself. This on the wall may be the safe trigger. What do you think? I'll give it a try if you agree, but after you back away. Mind those other triggers as you step back, of course."

Sol is SOL.:

Sol heaves the door up, but for every action there is a reaction. The force required to push the door is just enough to dislodge his grasping fingers and he plummets to the stone floor a second time.

Acro: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14

Was there any doubt of the outcome?

We hadn't settled on how many HP Sol had actually recovered, he was merely returned to actionable status. So is he still conscious, or, mercifully perhaps, not?

Can you please, please, please, pitch his next DC at something makeable like 4 or 5?

Please?

Sol:

Spoiler:
Let's be generous and say you have 2hp left.

"You did it!" Kamilo listens. "There doesn't seem to be anyone up there. Let's get out of here while we can!"

Assisting one another, the soldiers manage to clamber out of the pit. They and Sol find themselves in an abandoned guardroom. They can hear shouts in the distance but nothing nearby.

"There's an armoury near here, perhaps we can puck up some weapons." They find the room a short distance down a corridor. Although the racks have been kicked over and smashed, it takes a lot of effort to systematically destroy steel weapons. The group are able to arm themselves with longswords and shields.

"There's a back door out of here. Do you think we should go that way or see if we can take them unawares from the rear?" asks Kamilo.

ReSOLving:

Any sign of Sol's gear in the guardroom or armoury?

"I am not much of a fighter, and these, " Sol lifts a longsword, "certainly aren't my kind of weapons. If it was just me, I'd make a run for it."

He straightens up and adjusts his cloak so that the brooch shows plainly at his shoulder. "But the army and my friends are out there, fighting to free us. And there's enough of us that we might make a difference. Let's secure this building, then see how it looks outside before deciding further."

He would have made sure to collect T's scale if he dropped it in the fall.

No SOLitary confinement, please!:

”I appreciate the gesture. And I won’t turn down the offer - if I’m correct, what lies beyond you will know exactly how to handle. But remember - these traps probably don’t care who you are. If they trip, they trip. If I’m wrong and you set it off, it’s my error, not a failing of yours.”

Jod moves back with the others, readying his falchion so he can charge in if the room beyond is full of enemy soldiers.

No Sol:

Spoiler:
Mulluq reaches up to the stone wall where Jod indicated. There is a cunningly concealed panel which, with a brief prayer to Iomedae, he flips open. Inside is a handle. He breathes deeply, grabs it and turns it.

With a clunk the door swings open. Beyond is... silence.

Sol - Perception check DC 18:

Kamilo nods, clearly approving. "Do you know the layout here? There's three bunkers, with heavy weapons facing the ford. But underneath there are tunnels connecting all three together, with the barracks, storerooms and so on. That's where we are now.
