Hi all, we have one or two vacancies in this game due to player departure. If anyone is interested, please let us know here. Please note that the game is in a bit of a tricky position to introduce new characters - the PCs are in a very isolated place, about the enter the evil guys' secret base in a volcano - so a degree of flexibility about what character class, race and background. But we can discuss as ideas are put forward.
Thanks for your interest in advance.

OK, a couple of things:
- home rules (such as they are) are set in the profile of this avatar (which is the one I use when DM'ing).
- This website has a lot of useful information, some of which I use, some of which I don't. Stuff can be used after discussion though (for your information) I do not like the warforged conversion here. Warforged are more-or-less as in the ECS as far as I am concerned. And warforged are good to the extent they can be easily introduced (this place is crawling with them) but this is not remotely binding in terms of character race.
- the party is currently sans healer or, more accurately, the PC is still there being DMPC'ed but the player has moved on. I would like to have a member of the party occupying that role rather than a permanent NPC, but I'm open-minded (and healers tend not to last long in this party)
- background will have to be discussed, as I noted above, given the trickiness of introducing a new PC mid-flow.
EmissaryOfTheNorth
Mmm, depending on the level I could build a nice Paladin to heal/tank/smack thine evil.
If I were to pick Warforged, would htey have ECS' stat modifiers or would you provide PF updated ones? I guess -2 Cha would still be there, so the viability of a Warforged Paladin would depend on the point buy/roll and such.
Anyway, I love playing each and every kind of character and Eberron tingles my fancy, so consider me hyped, happy and up for discussion!

We are using Eberron gods.
Stats for warforged are basically the same, except that the -2 WIS is gone.
Background (this is spoilered from my current players - no peeking, guys - not from anyone who wants to join):
We could do the old "you find someone tied up as a prisoner" which is tried and tested, if a little bland. But it gives a degree of freedom as to what character you can have, providing you can justify what they are doing in the middle of a trackless jungle.
Alternatively, the new player could be part of the evil guys' crew - obviously, not as evil as they are, and maybe looking for a way out. As a background you would be a mercenary of some kind (possibly Aundairian, since that it what most of them are).
Thirdly, the PCs left behind (a very long time ago) a patron who could potentially organize a rescue for them. So you could be part of a group trailing after the PCs, perhaps the advance scout. On that basis, you might have a background either with House Tharashk or the Brelish military special forces.
And fourthly, we could combine a few of these.
Or, fifthly, you might have some ideas of your own.
The PCs are currently in Qbarra. They have just fought their way through the jungle, got involved in a coup d'état amongst the lizardfolk, and generally had a miserable time trying to find out what is going on at the place they have just arrived at. The group currently comprises:
- human True Necromancer
- warforged Barbarian
- lizardfolk Warlord
- elven Rogue/Ranger
- human Cleric (the player has recently left the game)
There are also two lizardfolk NPC companions with the party, local guides leading them to where they are now. One is a rogue and the other a druid. They are also possibles for converting to full PC status.
Party level is 4th.

It wouldn't solve your healer issues, but I think a changeling character that uses the new metamorph alchemist archetype from Ultimate Intrigue would be cool.
There would need to be a place for a shapeshifting, skill based character in the game though.
And, in general, I'm most interested in being pitched ideas about characters - who they are (and how they fit in the setting and the game) - rather than being given ideas about character builds. Most builds will fit in the game, but the character background and how they actually got to be in this place are what I'm interested in.

Tal'Va'Nocht was one of the First Forged, originally created by the Sovereign Hosts when they cast out The Four. Tal, a Paladin, was both a healer and a warrior.
During a rather climactic battle with the forces of The Four on the mortal plain, Tal was trapped within a wave of Lava, frozen in place.
Thousands of years pass, his fellows all fall to various misadventure as the Sovereign Hosts pull further and further from the mortal plain, leaving the newer gods to deal with it. His fellows become the seed that blossoms into the Warforged, mortal created Forged.
Several hundred years ago, evil forces uncovered Tal in the lava flow while working on their Fortress. In his weakened condition, he cannot free himself from the lava rock, and he is left as a decoration, able to watch but not see or hear as they go about their evil ways.
Those forces fall, and others take their place, eventually Tal is left in an old storage space, considered nothing more than an odd statue by the latest inhabitants of the Fortress and their ilk.
Finally, after lifetimes of imprisonment, he is finally released by desperately hunted mortals. His long imprisonment has weakened him, but he is still capable of being a dangerous adversary...

I have a random thought for a character; No idea how aplicable it would be:
A souldoll Evangelist Cleric. Mechanically, we'll have to build her in race builder- I did it before, and what I did was to basically make her take double damage from all sources, be a tiny construct, with light blindness.
Fluff-wise, I'm thinking the soul of one of the BBEG's daughters, or some random child, after being shattered into a thousand pieces. He wanted to create a vile creature to serve as his minion, so he planted the soul he found into a doll. The doll ends up rather decent, and unfortunately flawed. The souldoll bearly functions as a souldoll. So he just threw her away, in a cold dark room, with a bunch of cleric books.
And so she read, reading about The Travveler. She read. And read. And read. And prayed. Prayed for his help. To bring her to safety. To freedom.
And, lo and behold? Help came.
Fragile Form: Your form is fragile itself; You are vunerable to all energy types, and take double damage from bludgeoning attacks. (-12 RP)
Weak Mind: Unlike other constructs, you are vunerable to mind-affecting spells. (-4 RP?)
Type: Construct
+2 Cha (Standard, +0)
Tiny (4 rp)
Soul Focus (Su) The soul bound to the doll lives within a focus integrated into the doll or its apparel, typically one of the doll's eyes or a gem embedded into its neck or chest. As long as this soul focus remains intact, it can be used to animate another doll, using the same cost as creating a new construct. Once bound into the soul focus, the soul continues to learn, and so if later it is put into a new doll body, the soul retains its personality and memories from its previous body or bodies. A soul focus has hardness 8, 12 hit points, and a break DC of 20. (+4)
Light Blindness (-2)
Possibly Samsaran Magic, linked to either Paladin or Druid.
If no soulbound doll, may I request the Illumian, from Races of Destiny, as that is the second closest to the fluff I had in mind for her.

This could work but I wouldn't be especially keen on a bespoke character race. And I wouldn't really be keen on such a fragile PC as I planning on handing out quite a lot of senseless carnage. But it could work, with modification, with a warforged, perhaps a warforged scout model.

Is there anywhere we can look at resumes or info about the campaign? -Not counting gameplay, I mean-
You are right about proposing full fledged characters, not builds, and so I wanna know a bit about the story and place's background.
And what can you tell us about the two Lizardfolk NPCs? If they have at least a background basis we can further elaborate, I'd be down to be an awesome Lidard Guy!

If PF classes are a go, then perhaps a warforged oracle of battle with the warsighted archetype and a few applications of the Strange Revelations feat for dipping into other mysteries.
The character would be found in a room full of junk in the party's destination, with a magical version of a Star Wars-style droid restraint embedded in its torso. It has faded Cyran colors painted onto its body, and the insignia of Cyre engraved prominently into its torso plate.
This warforged was an attempt at making a combat-capable frontline healer and support unit that didn't rely on Eberron's deities for its magic, but something went badly awry, and the finished result ended up plagued by odd little faults that, while not bothersome in any other circumstance, were unacceptable in a combat unit, so it was discarded as a failure and sold off at a discount to the Cyran military, who put it to use in unspecified covert ops projects in the Q'barra region.
The warforged participated in numerous successful operations (which it is not permitted to speak of), with performance above expectations, so it came as a surprise when its commander informed it one day that it was being rendered inactive. The last thing it remembers clearly is some sort of tube being pressed against its torso, and a brief sensation of impact. Then its senses go utterly dark, until the ruins and these new faces around it.
It has no idea how or why it ended up in the ruins, which were nowhere near its area of operations, and it is shocked to learn how much time has passed since it was last operational; it is in fact one of the earliest self-aware warforged, created a scant few years after the first generation went into service.
I'd have to go digging for my stored 3.5 Eberron stuff for more backstory or mechanics beyond that, it's been a long while since I had reason to recall any of it. So, naturally, it has faded.

BROTHER!!!!!
*gives brotherly hug*
Lol, we'll see about that.
Expansion to backstory:
The warforged was rendered inactive because its entire unit decided that service to Cyre in the humid hell of Q'barra was no longer appealing to them. And so, very much reminiscent of that spec ops unit in Die Hard 2, they decided to go into business for themselves. The warforged, however, was absolutely loyal and wouldn't stand for or go along with a mass desertion of this sort. So it had to be neutralized. But it was a part of unit, and served well and faithfully, so the choice was finally made to render it inactive instead of destroying it outright.
It would be very much interested in reporting to New Cyre in search of orders, and should someone there have (or be able to dig up) its command authorizations, it would have some very interesting information to disclose to its new superiors. Among other things, the unit it was a part of had some specialized researchers attached to it, looking into the development of soldier boosts, using the exotic compounds found in Q'barra. As a trained healer for the unit, the warforged was responsible for administering and overseeing the effects of these compounds in field. And it has recipes...

OK, the backstory as it stands is kinda similar to Cole's. I should explain that warforged are a good option because the BBEG's minions are mostly warforged. So I really need to know:
I also need to know:
Please spoiler any replies if they refer to the information I just spoilered for you.
Sam C.
I hadn't realized there was a similar backstory in use, heh.
And then:
So it needs aid. And here, before it, is potential aid. They claim the war is over, and peace is in place (mostly), and it is willing to provisionally accept that claim. In return for providing what it needs (knowledge, resources, etc.) to complete its self-assigned mission, it will provide its own skills to their cause, so long as that cause is not an obvious danger to Cyre.

OK....
Also, there's no such thing as restraining bolts and so on for warforged, at least not as I see it. In game terms it screws up their free will. Nor can you just press a button and deactivate them - they aren't machines, they are living constructs, and so that doesn't really work for the same reasons.
I'm up for the character being a former Cyran commando. The mercenaries didn't come here on spec, so perhaps a previous expedition of which you were a member located the site. It is a dormant volcano, in which is built ruined (but fairly serviceable) buildings. It is also a holy place to the lizardfolk, who have had to be beaten back several times as they have waged war to get it back. So perhaps you were with the earlier expedition, got damaged and lost and ended up inactive due to damage somewhere. The second, bigger expedition show up, find you and heal you back up to an active state.
(Alternatively, you could just be hired on because you wanted something to do, and came along with the second expedition. There's no real need for you to be injured and revived, it doesn't actually make any difference.)
But this time they are with a group of "scientists" (for want of a better term) who are calling the shots. Something weird is going on and you don't know what. A lot of warforged have been killed fighting the lizardfolk, lizardfolk holy places have been ransacked, and this place has been commandeered. You are a vaguely religious person as an oracle, perhaps this sits badly with you. Perhaps the casual disregard for the casualties also bothers you as a healer.

Backstory on the lizardfolk:
There are two lizardfolk NPCs. First is Ashshar. He is a hunter a guide (currently a rogue, but that can be changed). He is a member of the River Serpent tribe, a small and peaceful tribe. His chief Pooma assigned him to guide the PCs through the jungle. The jungles have been in uproar since humans took over a lizardfolk holy site, Da'sheth. Pooma was concerned that the lizardfolk attacking the humans could cause terrible repercussions from New Galifar. So the chief encouraged the PCs to head upriver to see if they could solve the problem somehow, either by brokering a peace or getting the humans to leave Da'sheth. Unfortunately, things didn't go so well....
Eshsheth was the apprentice of the shaman of the Finback tribe, Koouri (he's a druid, but again that can be changed). The Finbacks were a powerful tribe, and the most in favour of war against the humans. When the PCs arrived, Koouri, who also favoured peace, tried to arrange for the PCs to kill warlike Finback chief, Ylyeshshi. They succeeded, but in the aftermath Koouri's plans unraveled as a smaller tribe, the Skinwings, formed a coalition and staged a coup, overthrowing the overweening Finbacks. If anything, the situation is worse, as the Skinwings chief also hates humans but is nothing like as stupid as Ylyeshshi. As the Finback village burned, Koouri sent Eshsheth to guide the PCs to Da'sheth to see if they could rectify the situation there.
And the PCs have just, at this point, arrived in Da'sheth, where they are encountering the human mercenary force guarding the place.
(This is a bit of a potted history of the game - it's all laid out in glorious Technicolor in the game thread.)

The unit's purpose was primarily resource acquisition, a fancy way of saying they were locating and looting ruins for anything that Cyre could use for the war effort. The soldier boost thing was a side project, something along the lines of "since we're already here for this, might as well that while we're in the area."
The restraint was purely for fluff, to explain why he wasn't up and about for decades (and consequently more experienced than any potential party). I figure it was a prototype device based on a docent (which, if I recall correctly, can absorb a warforged personality, leaving the body vacant), but instead of storing the personality for transfer, it simply cuts it off from the body to which the restraint is attached. Kind of like petrification is depicted as working; the lights go out and the victim is unaware until the process is reversed. The single-use device was made when the prospect of self-aware constructs was initially conceived, on the fear that they might rebel against their makers and so forth. That didn't happen, the nascent idea got shelved for something more important, but a few prototypes got introduced (and eventually expended) beforehand.

Warforged, while close, isn't QUITE what I had in mind; The character I had in mind was more like a porcolin doll than a made-to-order soldier. Hence the custom race; Warforged is close, but is also just a bit too far. Warforged scout doesn't fit with the idea I had in mind. Origionally, soulbound Dolls were monsters, and if I want to play one, race building is the best option.
If the majority of his troops are warforged, she could be an experiment in creating intelligences.
Poking around, I found these Wound Threshold rules from Unchained; They might serve as a decent alternative, with the modifiers being set to "Gritty" mode, to show how much being attacked almost destroys her, in place of just taking more damage.
Maybe combining this with the penalties from Called Shots, requiring me to make a, I don't know, DC 15 fort save or take a random penalty from the Called Shots system?
While this does make her more fragile, and MAY be slightly more on the punishing side, but simultaneously means that she's not going to due every time someone spits at her, while maintaining the idea of "Fragile little doll girl" I had going on with her.
Unless it's acid spit, because porcelain doll. Maybe fire if I make her wood.

I'm very interested in Eberron, but not the 4e version.
We are using the 3.5 version in terms of what is in the ECS and all that. I don't know what 4e might have changed about Eberron, and if anyone tries to tell me I will ignore it.
We are using Pathfinder classes, except with the specific alterations that the GM has noted.

Background: Tellsin was born to House Medani but hd the wandering spirit of the Traveler in his blood from boyhood. During the Last War he spent time in Beland but as the War ended he looked for greener pastures after all had he not stayed in one place long enough? Plus the War seemed to take its toll on the spirit of the place. A man of his skills would be useful in the wilderness and he knew it.
Tellsin found himself in Adderport as it grew in size so did his reputation grow in stature. His powers became invaluable as civilization pushed back on the raiding Lizard Folk. As the conflict neared its end, Tellin realized that the Lizard folk had not been the aggressors but the oppressed. In turn he decidd to make amends for what he ahd done by offering his services to the Lizardfolk of the region. Staying Adderport after all had grown too bland. Had he not stayed in place long enough? A man of his skills could be useful in the wilderness….

Okey, I like those Lizardfolk, specially Ashshar!
I will think about it and post later today.
Just so I know, would they be 3.5 Lizardfolk with Racial hit dice or Pathfinder's one
Both would work anyway.

Hi SS, you haven't really explained why he's at these particular ruins in your backstory. Also, I'm not sure you can take more than one lesser dragonmark feat. And the lizardfolk are quite xenophobic, and are whipped up into a bit of an anti-human frenzy right now - after all, "humans" did invade their holy site and rip up their monuments, and "humans" also assassinated the chief of the Finback tribe (PCs begin whistling innocently). While he's a half-elf, the lizardfolk may not be bothered by that subtlety. So what impact is this having on his pro-lizardfolk stance?

Emissary's here packing some scales!
Only things left would be gear if I am to buy any (for which I need wealth) and traits if we use them.
I liked Ashshar and his backstory (even if brief) and my only additions would be the following:
•Using Slayer instead of rogue for a far more huntery style instead of cunning thief.
•He believes that contact with human civilization would be good for his tribe, but they must first study them and decide if they are to trust. In addition he believes any improvement should be done taking into account that human advances shouldn't change what they really are: Sons of Nature.
I can provide even more

OK, a few comments:
- happy with your notion of the backstory. You can develop it as you go along, so no need to give me reams here.
- happy (in fact, very good idea) with the slayer thing.
- could you show your workings on his ability scores, I just want to see those work OK? His racial mods are +2 STR, +2 CON, -2 INT.
- his AC looks a bit odd. Lizardfolk have a +5 natural armour bonus. I think you might have mixed up the "character class" lizard folk and the "Bestiary" lizardfolk (which differ significantly). You need to basically treat him as "multiclassing" with his racial it dice (and his +5 AC is a sort of payoff for those) and then add the three slayer levels. He's also got a +6 armour bonus to AC. I've got some bad news - Ashshar doesn't have any armour.
- in fact, there's more bad news. Ashshar's only equipment is as follows: MW Morningstar, MW Heavy Wooden Shield, 10 Javelins, Quiver, Potion of CLW, Potion of Bear's Endurance, Battle harness and pouches. Given the last fight, he can have a MW Composite Longbow (+2 STR bonus) and 20 arrows as well. Lizardfolk don't typically use bows, so perhaps he's been picking it up from Rehil.
- his saves don't looks quite right. His Fort base saves would be +3 for 2 levels of lizard folk, +3 for levels of slayer, +3 for CON 16 = 9, not 7. Ref would be +0 +3 +2 = +5, not +9. Will would be +0 +1 +2 = +3.
- his attack with missile weapons also looks a bit high. I make it a base +6 (+4 BAB, +2 DEX), not +7.
- no traits in this game.
- you don't have the Multiattack. That will make you attacks with natural weapons much more problematic as you take a -5 penalty for you non-primary attacks (instead of -2 with the feat). I'd strongly recommend you take that feat, otherwise you may get very little benefit for your natural attacks, which can be handy as secondary attacks.
Ashshar
Okey, will fix! I misunderstood you about whether we were using PF Lizardfolk with 2 humanoid HD, as PF's Lizardfolk don't have -2 INT, same with the Natural Armor.
As I am AFK -to say something- now, I will explain the things and note what I gotta change and do it later:
•Humanoid HD say one good save, usually reflex, so I gotta swap it to Fort.
•Natural Armor on PF's Lizardfolk is 2, so gotta up it to 5
•Armor was remaining from the Alias I cooy pasted it, gotta erase it.
•Ability Scores Pre-racial are -in order-
15-14-14-13-14-10
With 4th level increase going into Str and Racials:
18-14-16-11-14-10
•Will update equipment, but no problem, I intended to have him use his natural attacks on melee and a bow at range, thought about the bow as a first step towards adopting Humankind advances for the Scalykind glory! And gotta low Str Rating and Damage of said bow to 2, no biggue!
•Updated Saves: Fort 9 (3 lizard, 3 slayer, 3 con) ; Reflex 5 (3 slayer, 2 dex) ; Will 3 (1 Slayer, 2 Wis)

Dear interested parties
My PbP is looking for another player. It is an Eberron game using mythic rules, with the PCs at 6th level and one mythic tier. Due to the nature of the "ascension" of the PCs, we cannot easily accommodate new characters, but a player for a PC has dropped out and needs replacing for that character. This character (it gets more complicated) is a lizardfolk - we are playing that as two levels of humanoid (the racial hit dice) plus four character levels. To allow a new player some input into their character, you will be allowed to rejig the character regarding class and so on.
If you are interested, please either drop us a line on this thread or PM me.
Many thanks!
