Splendid! (^_^)

So I downloaded Maptools, but it doesn't function as it should. I run a 64 bit OS, maybe that has something to do with it. What I want to do is add a A-Z and 1-50 on the side and top of the map, then superimpose tokens on top of it. I know that google documents (draw, I think?) lets you do this, but I have no experience setting any of this up.
Do any of you happen to have any experience with setting up combat maps? Because I know it enriches the game when players can tactically approach combat situations. Luckily, the current combat isn't much of a fight at all ;) but that might change in the nearby future.

While I am no expert, this site is fairly easy to use, and is set up to be interactive, moving game tokens and everything. (^_^)

Usually, I don't worry about putting grid references on the map; I just upload the map and player/monster icons as a google document, and make it editable by everyone. That way, players can move their own miniatures, and it saves you from having to upload a new map every time.
I prefer Google Docs, mostly because I can't access things like Roll20 from work.

Here is what I have been able to put together as example with Dungeon Grid, the site I linked to. This is a mock-up of the current map, with all our characters included as well as the life boat and three defeated Eurypterids! (^_^)
I am not sure if all the details are right, and I did my best to guess where everyone is on the beach based on people's posts. I mainly wish to present this as an example. It is not as detailed as the GM's map, but everyone can move the pieces, so we can each move our characters!
I'd recommend that the GM attempt to do the same with later maps, or with this one too. It isn't difficult to use. Once you log into the app, you paint the tiles with the terrain types you want that are available. Then after that, you create game pieces- PCs, NPCs, monsters- by dragging image files from your desk top to the map.
That's about it. What does everyone think? Does this look workable, Arie? (^_^)

Alrighty. :) I'm sorry my attempt at providing an interactive format didn't pan out. <_>
Desiona Veleshi
There is a lot going on here in the beginning! No worries GM, and thanks for the great game so far. (^_^)
Apologies that I didn't post any more questions today. Sometimes I like to wait and give others a chance to post so that I don't feel as if I am taking over the board. (~_^) I'll add some of my questions sometime tomorrow, before or after the update. (^_^)

Aaawww.. :( Feel better soon, Viorec! (^_^)
Arie IJzer
Same, sorry for the delay - had some RL issues (hi, flu!) that sapped all of my energies. Working on a major update now. Kept typing it up earlier this week, but was tired before I got half-way done.
On a somewhat related note, why do I always get the worst flu ever at the end of summer?! It must be all that vitamine D..
Desiona Veleshi
Welcome back Viorec! (^_^)
I am so sorry to hear you're is feeling ill as well, Arie! :(
*Passes out goodberries, all around.*
Everyone get better soon! (Darn temperature shifts- darn summer's end!)

I'm pretty sure what I had was a bad potato salad at a picnic last weekend. A few others at the picnic were likewise affected. Symptoms seemed consistent with norovirus. It really wasn't much fun.
Desiona Veleshi
Bad potatoes! Bleh! I am so sorry to hear that.
Hope you feel better. Wishes of good health to all! (^_^)
Viorec Rulasti
I hope his flu isn't still laying him low... Has anyone PM'ed him?
I just sent one.
I noticed that Arie hasn't posted anything under any aliases since 8/29.
I also just noticed that he and I are playing in a different PbP together.
Desiona Veleshi
I see- so he hasn't posted in the other PbP either?
I hope he's okay!
Viorec Rulasti
I'm having so much fun roleplaying with this group, that I'm considering volunteering to take over as GM!
The main thing that's stopping me is that I don't own Serpent's Skull and have already blown through my September gaming budget.
Desiona Veleshi
Yes! I like this a group a lot too! If Viorec were to GM, that would splendid! Though I understand the limitation of the moneys. :/
The other question is, if one of us were to take over, what would happen to the that PC? I like the peoples we have here! Would we have a GMPC to keep the original party dynamic?
Desiona Veleshi
Sounds good to me darlings! Let's find us a GM! (^_^)
Viorec Rulasti
Desiona Veleshi
Splendid Viorec! *Hugz her fellow Varisian!* Thank you for taking the initiative. Well done. (^_^)
Desiona Veleshi
Yeah, last I saw here he had the flu. :/
I noticed the post in the recruitment thread. Splendid! :)

So, it looks like the first possible GM has bowed out.
There is another possible GM, but he's completely new to PbP, and doesn't have all that much GM experience.
I can pony up the $12 to buy the PDF of Souls For Smuggler's Shiv, and would be willing to GM this party, if you would have me.
I'd keep Viorec around as an NPC, at least until I could find a good place for him to go.
If it's a "yes," let me know who's still interested in continuing. I'll also need a couple of days to read the module and familiarize myself with it.
GM Haladir
Oh, and if you do want me to take over, here's a bit of my GM style...
1) I can usually post once or twice a day. I'll try my best to move things along, but I'm happy to slow down if everyone's having fun RPing.
2) I'm a very experienced GM, although this would be my first time GMing a PbP. I think you've all gotten a pretty good taste of my role playing style.
3) I prefer a more narrative style of play, and prefer de-emphasizing game mechanics in favor of telling a good story.
4) I often post from my phone. Please bear with typos or malapropisms that are a result of autocorrect / Word Flow.
Anyway, let me know if you want me to do this, and if so, who's still in.

I'll throw in my two cents...
I'd rather have Haladir as a GM for this one, and here's why: I've played with him in another short-lived (Carrion Crown) game and his character and his posts were great. Though said game tanked, he was one of the players that tried to keep it going for as long as it could, so from that experience I feel like he is a reliable and commited player (which I guess will translate to his GMing). He looks like a dedicated storyteller with a narrative style that I find appealing and, finally, he writes speech between quotes, which I personally think is comforting. ;)
So although we'd be losing a fine character by letting Viorec go, I feel like we'd be trading it for a good shot at a long and fun PbP.
I wouldn't be opposed to us getting another GM, but if Haladir is really willing to take the helm here, I say Aye, Aye, captain. I'd be willing to chip in on the *.pdf if necessary, and we can buy the other modules as we go, if things go well.
P.S.- I'll be traveling throughout October and my posting rate will be very, very low during that time, but other than that I'd be totally in.

Hey, folks.
I was just assigned to take lead on major high-priority project at work that's currently very behind schedule. (The former project lead was just sacked for filing misleading and overly-rosy status reports.) This means that I'm going to be working 50-60 hour weeks for the next few months to get this out the door. If I can pull it off, it will be a major victory in my career.
This also means that I just wont have the time to take over GM responsibilities for this campaign.
As much as it pains me to say this, I think we should add this campaign to the pile of PbPs that fizzled out after the first or second encounter.
