Damn this dude has a lot of health...
On the inside I'm like ...Just think about the xp... ...Just think about the xp... ...Just think about the xp...
Marco Theseus Cain
I would like to retroactively point out that i was right about the summon. It did exactly nothing
DW Duck
Maglin
Lol.
Anyway, I bet we're real close to leveling up.
Marco Theseus Cain
That is an extremely on point gif because you weren't wrong, but you were definitely less right
Also i love that movie
Maglin
Hey, it's finals week for me. That means I might not be as responsive as usual until about thursday.
Marco Theseus Cain
good luck man
Simon Blue-Eye
So, I am back. ;-)
Thanks for the bot. No harm done, both cats are alive, the baddy has been brain-fried and we'll get lots of lootz and xpes soon.
And yes I am not that dependant on my spellcasting resources so one 'wasted' summon isn't the end of the world for me :-)
IC post in progress...
@Maglin: GL *pawn-pressing*
Maglin
I only have one actual test, mostly just writing assignments, so it's less about luck and more about conscientiousness. Also, I think that the laws of procrastination mean I'm actually going to be significantly *more* responsive.
What's pawn-pressing?
Simon Blue-Eye
Like holding thumbs.
But more kitty ;-)
Edit: ... and with an extra 'n' for good measure.
One can always use a 'n', can't you? ;-)
It's early on a Monday morning, what did you expect ...
Simon Blue-Eye
@Ogre-Camp Note: Anyone knows a wealthy dwarven warlord? We could sell him the note about an Ogre camp for some good amount of gold :-))
Simon Blue-Eye
Whoop, Whooop!
Now gogo to lvl 6, where the interesting stuff is waiting!
Simon Blue-Eye
Spell discussion:
I get one more 2nd level spell for the level up and I have 3 spells of interest. What do you guys think:
- Cure Medium Wounds: More healing. Vuzi just saved two cat-bacon with those...
- Lesser restoration: Permanent ability damage sucks... and this heals some of it as well as fatigue and magic effects that reduce stats
- Shield Companion: hour/level buff for Emily, providing +1AC and +1 saves, plus allows me to take some of her damage to keep her in the fight. With 5 hours duration this is nearly an always-on buff and might safe my flanking partner at some point... Pretty awesome, but those others are good as well ...
@Choon: JFYI, I took combat reflexes with both cats, allowing a whooping 5(6) and 4(5) AoOs per round. Just in case you ever happen to draw my AoOs away for the big boss to escape ... He better have lots of minions by now ...
Vuzi Ognok
Vuzi is almost leveled up.
I took Shield of Faith, and Boneshaker.
For my Feat I thought I'd take combat casting, but I'm horrible at choosing feats so suggestions are more than welcome.
Marco Theseus Cain
Do we level up both sides this level or next level?
Regardless i have a new power known (I'm thinking maybe biofeedback for more DR or Metaphisical weapon for extra weapon enchants)
Quick draw as a bonus feat
An extra point of enchantment for my blade which must be spent on a special ability, so I'm thinking keen or flaming.
One normal level up feat. Probably "power attack" or "extra blade skill"
Fcb going to more power points of course , which brings my total power points per day up to 43
Simon Blue-Eye
If your not dead-set on feats, you might consider taking Outflank teamwork feat.
Simon and Emily got it so it should be quite possible to set us up in a deadly flanking triangle. First it UPSups your flanking bonus to +4 and you will get AoOs once I confirm a crit
This should be some really nice dmg spikes from time to time, considering the amount of single-strike damage you can deal
Marco Theseus Cain
Hmm.... that beats out power attack on usefulness, but is it worth the +1 light fortification enchantment to my shield.... hmm i can always take that talent next level
And with my weapon now being "keen" and thus threatening on a 17+.....
Outflank it is!
DW Duck
I'll do the loot valueation breakdown when I get home. Cain did you want the 2h sword? I don't know if your Nat weapon has 2h options. Its silver treated, so if you want it we could pass your silver dagger down the line. You should have first pick as your the most likely to get the most use of it, but in either case spreading out silver weapons would be good. We have found 2 silver weapons on this floor, and that may be a hint.
Also, if possible, I'd like to avoid using the fly potion. If we can wait another level then I should be able to replicate it in my extract book and later teach it to Maglin, so that fly potion could be a lot more valuable later.
Re: Simon /Lesser Restoration. I have that on my extract list and have been keeping that slot open just in case we need it. Next level maglin should be able to have it on his list too. Considering how often you and Emily get squished, extra AC sounds like a good idea
Maglin
I've got 2 third level spells to learn. Haste. Um...fly? Summon Monster? Something else?
I'm thinking spell focus and I think I had a plan at some point for something else but now I can't remember what. Maybe it's augment summons? I don't think I'm high enough level for metamagic to be all that useful, but augment summons is always great. In which case I guess I'll take summon monster as the other spell.
Suggestions welcome.
Vuzi, improved initiative is always good on spellcasters. I think it's better than combat casting.
Edit: I was going to suggest lesser restoration, because that's important, but if Dalkk has it then something else is better. Cure medium wounds sounds medium. Tell me Simon, do you want to play a medium character?
DW Duck
Tell me Simon, do you want to play a medium character?
Catfolk doesn't have any size variants do they?
On spell selection: summon monster has proven insanely useful. Might not hurt to take the next, especially if you can use the celestial templates in this evil place, or use it to summon multiple Lvl 2 monsters.
Haste is often a go to for me. Throwing that on Cain for direct one on one ogre type fights would of ended things a round sooner I think, on Simon for crit fishing, or yourself or I for carpet bombing aoe effects would all of been big during different fights thus far
Maglin
Lol. I guess we're all medium, as it turns out.
Haste and summon monster sounds good, especially if I am getting augment summons. I'm doing it!
DW Duck
I take back what I said about the sword. 530 Gold. Unless someone really really wants it, I suggest adding it to the sell pile. Will post full list after some IC investigations for pricing, but so far it's about 100 Gold and 400ish in resellables. I'm supposed to be up in 5.5hrs, so wont level tonight, will do as soon as I can.
I'm curious Choon, how is this play treating you? Did you expect more death or something else?
Marco Theseus Cain
And how is the other group doing?
Have they lost anyone yet?
Simon Blue-Eye
Tell me Simon, do you want to play a medium character?
"NEVERMORE!"
;-)Shield Companion it is then.
@Marco: Cool. Sounds like fun really. Don't know about the rest of your feats but you may want to take another Teamwork feat at some point, for access to a very awesome high level teamwork feat 'Coordinated Charge'. This allows one to join the charge of another character with this feat as an immediate action (thus you can charge AND full attack as long as someone with this feat leads the charge). And since Emily will get Pounce at lvl 7 we foul make 3 charges AND all our full attacks in one round again one target.
Sounds ridiculous.. Well yes!!
DW Duck
GM Choon re: Map
I'm not looking to use it, but I figured that a mapbof any detail might be worth something. We have some dwarven armor to sell to a dwarf camp on the north side of the island and I figured they might be interested
GM Choon
And how is the other group doing?
Have they lost anyone yet?
The other group has lost one player due to inactivity and their trap finder has been KO'd three or four times so far but hasn't actually died. They also used a different entrance which is less difficult CR wise and set a faster pace in general, but I think you both are doing well.
Maglin
So you're saying we're categorically better people based just on the limited interactions you've had?
That's a big compliment, but I'll take it.
Simon Blue-Eye
Well we've lost on eplayer due to afp (away from paizo/pathfinder) as well.
And several times we got VERY close to KO or even getting our beloved dwarf killed, so not too different.
;-)
DW Duck
Better is a stretch. You've both also saved or are trying to save a poor unfortunate soul from this place, so you're about even, I think. ;)
Are we trying to save someone? I thought use was the correct term. Just cause I'm dangling a carrot doesn't mean I'm gonna give him one
Marco Theseus Cain

that's generally on my list of feats as a martial character even when I'm not playing with a class that gets teamwork feats as bonus feats so long as I'm not the only one playing a martial character
Simon Blue-Eye
Well I don't get it before level 14.
But once I qualify for it, you will have two characters with it xD
Marco Theseus Cain
Yes i do mean eventually on that regard
Vuzi Ognok
I'm planning on giving him the carrot.
I can see a ghoul/former ghoul shopkeeper that runs a shop we've backed.
Improved Initiative would give me a +12. I already had a +8. I think I'm going to take Arcane Armor training. I can at least get leather or cloth armor and not have a spell failure issue.
DW Duck
What about mage armor? I'm sure Maglin can spare some Lvl 1 spells until you can get it in a wand? More AC and get to spend a feat elsewhere
Vuzi Ognok
That's true. I can also take the spell when the sorcerer side levels up again.
I think I figured it out. Extra Revelation. Armor of Bones +4 armor for 5 hours per day.
DW Duck
Oooo.. Spooky
Can't do a proper post atm, but Dalkk is ready to keep going in response to Maglins question
DW Duck
My dumb ass saw the new post notifications, refreshed the page, cleared them, but never actually clicked for the new page... Sorry for the neglect, will get something up tonight
Maglin
Officially finished finals a couple days ago, but then I was still pretty busy with travel and all.
Leveling should be pretty simple.
Maglin
Yeah, that was simple.
I have determined that my previous plan, to take spell focus as a wizard bonus feat, is illegal. I have the capacity, however, to take an item crafting feat.
How would we feel about that? I could select some metamagic instead. Please weigh in on this, it will affect your play experience.
DW Duck
If it were me I'd be deciding between Craft or Arcane Discoveries. I agree Metamagic doesn't have a whole lot of use atm.
If Craft, I think the obvious choice it either Craft Wondrous Item or Craft Arms and Armor. For both of these it should be noted that our total loot per party member atm, regardless of whether we use a group fund, is roughly 2000 gold each. Taking out other refueling costs, that's 1500 gold or so each to play around with. I have hopes that this being a dungeon heavy campaign that it will be treasure heavy as well.
Craft Wondrous Item (my least favorite of these options) requires specific items (belt of strength does mean you need a belt). This will work well on resupply. People should consider that as of right now, Maglin *could* craft something worth roughly 3000 for them on the high end. This doesn't include rings and wands and such and may be easier or more difficult depending on the item and it's requirements.
Craft Magic Arms and Armor (my favorite vanilla option) is a lot simpler, especially with the Armor. Armor and Shields run at half the value weapons do. A +1 Dagger is 2,000 where as a +1 Shield or Hide Armor is only 1,000 gold. These are without the base cost for the items themselves of course. Craft Arms and Armor reduces this further by half. For straight numerical bonuses you only need a CL of 3x the bonus. Maglin could enhance any Mwk Shield or Armor to a +1 for only 500 gold. The pair together would be a net +2 AC for 1,000 gold. Next level he can make both items +2, so a +4 net AC, for an additional 3000 gold. This gives players the option to obtain +2 shield and/or Armor for a total of 2,000 to 4,000 each, increasing AC for most by 2 to 4 points. Keep in mind that our casters can don a Haremaki or ceremonial robes that count as armor as well.
Arcane Discovery (my favorite *if the variables return favorably*) would be a way to go. Fast Study is neat and I can see Maglin taking it so that his 'sleep to ready' is under 2.5hrs but I don't think we'll be in many situations where we can wait for 1 minute, but not 15 for you to re read your spell book. Split Slot is definitely something you should have eventually, but wont see much use until LVL 8ish. Something that has the potential to be crazy amazing in this particular campaign though with these is the Arcane Discovery - Alchemical Affinity
Alchemical Affinity grants you a +1 to CL and DC of any spells that are also on the Alchemist Extract list. This alone is reason enough to take it as it makes a lot of your buffs (including the freshly gained Haste) last longer. If thats not enough, this allows you to transfer Alchemist Formulae into Wizard Spells. With this you'll be able to transfer wizard spells and alchemist formula (your own and Dalkks) back and forth. Not to mention being able to increase your Dwarven allys extract list. Between your spells gained per level, my extracts gained per level, and your extracts at every other level, Maglin would very quickly increase his spellcasting options.
Not enough you say? I agree! I almost brought with me the fairly cheap (so... should be easy to obtain right?) Formula Alembic. This nifty item allows an Alchemist to learn spells from potions, which was my plan for the Fly potion we just found. Of course, with Alchemical Affinity this means that when we find a potion, not only can we add it to our extract lists but you can then transfer that up to your wizard spell book. So now Maglin gains spells per level, spells per every other level, spells per every Dalkk level, and spells per every potion. In this place where magic can mean everything, it has the potential to be a powerful option.
GM Choon
I should note here that I am not a fan of the "skip a requirement for +5DC" thing. So we won't be using that rule. On the bright side, using polymorph effects to become an elf to craft boots of elvenkind is totally cool. You can also have someone assist to provide a spell you can't cast at no penalty.

Craft wondrous would be great
My arms/armor are class features and craft wondrous covers a crazy large number of items, especially given the number of spell/power lists we have access to
We will all definitely eventually want at least a belt and a headband each
Personally I want a headband of +2 wis asap,
DW Duck
Cain already has one, or at least its listed in his profile. It was an issue when we first started. You have listed Quick Runners shirt (1,000), headband of wisdom +2 (4,000) and chainmail, but no rations or supplies. It violated the outline of both the 5,000 starting gold and not spending more than 50% of your gold in one category. We were told to drop it though, if memory serves because you stated you didn't have much use for most items.
Re Item Crafting - if we can't use the +5 DC for missing spells I would discourage it for now. I'm not saying its not viable, but its certainly less viable now then it will be later. Right now you would have to purchase the spell which would negate a good chunk of the savings since the items were making aren't terribly expensive as is.
Maglin
That sounds like an accurate representation of the conversation.
I had craft wondrous in mind when I made that statement. Craft wondrous can be used to enhance a wider variety of different things, and is probably worth more gold than arms and armor. Also, I like the flavor a bit better, since I can't see Maglin getting excited over enchanting a sword, but I can see him excited to make some way to enhance Emily's claws.
Anyway, I think that crafting is definitely more powerful than having access to a wider range of spells. Haste is probably strong enough to be better than basically anything else I could do. So it's a question of utility versus power.
Also note that one incentivises us to retreat and resupply more frequently, while another removes an incentive to retreat and resupply.
I'm inclined to prefer crafting. It makes me & Maglin both feel like professionals, which is one of the main motivations Maglin has. But I could be persuaded if people don't like crafting.
DW Duck
I fear the map move may be on me. I've never been able to mod the map on my mobile before but when I was looking at it moved. If I knew how to do it from my mobile I would move it back. I suppose it could have just refreshed though and updated the move?
I think craft wondrous will serve the group jusy fine, but I think that it'll be a lot up front and then a long term dormant period. I'm cool either way.
I'm still trying to decide my new 2nd level extract to learn. I'm leaning heavily on vomit swarm. It fits thematicly, but most the time is too slow I fear. Invisibility seems obvious though not for Dalkk. Energy resistance was very appealing. I'm open if anyone has any thoughts.
